Atheists don't turn to God when they are in mortal trouble. They tend to say things like "shit", "Bleep", "damn it", "we are so screwed".
They might also soil their pants. However, in such dire situations, something as ineffective as prayer would scarcely cross their minds.

* Consciousness is an emergent property of brains, unlike other emergent properties is unexplainable by physical laws. Take example, snowflakes, termite mounds and ice which are emergent properties. One can explain these things using physical laws eg lattice arrangement in ice. Even emergent physiological elements in the body such as digestion can be explained strictly using physical laws. Consciousness follows NO physical law.

Consciousness is not yet fully explained by physical laws, but you don't know that a physical law that can explain consciousness won't be discovered tomorrow morning, so it is premature to conclude that consciousness follows no physical law. For now, we just don't know.

* Matter and energy in itself is not conscious, it is unconscious. Quarks, hadrons and leptons; elements, compounds and mixtures; ions, electromagnetic waves and fields. All these material forms lack consciousness.

We don't know this for sure. It seems true, but it's perhaps that some objects we consider to be unconscious are just unable to communicate.

Now to the questions I can understand:

* How do you think consciousness originated? Feel free to speculate.

It appears to have originated during the evolution of animals, but I certainly don't know the details. Waiting for biologists to figure it out.

* What explains the fact that we need consciousness to know anything exists?

What explains the fact that we need legs to walk?

* If only the universe exists, how does consciousness allow us imagine entities and universes unseen in our universe (ie think outside the box of the universe)?

How do our legs allow us to walk to places that we have never been to before?

* God has been suggested as the primordial cause of consciousness, why do you disagree with this and what problems does it have?

In the absence of any actual evidence that God even exists, what's the basis for suggesting that he is the primordial cause of consciousness?

This is just another God of the gaps type of argument. We don't fully understand X at the current time, therefore God is responsible for X.

Yes, I stopped assuming that God exists and the bible is his book. I decided to base my beliefs on evidence and logic. That made me an atheist.

We can argue from now till eternity I can't logically defeat u because Christianity is nothing logical at all.

Things that are right tend to be logical. Things that are wrong tend to be illogical. Is it likely that your religion is the only exception to this rule?

The same can be said about most bad people in the real world. Hitler was 'merciful' to Germans and dogs but he was a total devil to the Jews. Most drug lords are protective and loving to their children but will destroy strangers who stand in their way. Why is God not better than them?

What you're advising him against is precisely what early Christians did when they started Christianity. They idolized Jesus and saw him as God.

Religion says that God is loving, kind, just, merciful, etc. Elementary logic shows that this can't be true. Religion says that the universe was created in 7 days. Science shows that this is comically inaccurate. Why should we believe this same source when it says that God exists?

And on why God chooses to burn people? Why do people choose to be disobedient?

If God existed, and wanted us to obey him, he would have made us naturally eager to obey him, like robots and German Shepherd Dogs. He would also have made his existence more easy to verify. A God who wanted universal obedience would not pretend that he does not exist.

Don't hate God. Hate superstition. Hate irrationality. Hate false beliefs. There's no evidence for the existence of any God for you to hate.

It's one thing to give an explanation and a completely different thing for the explanation to actually be true. Science can't yet tell us what led to the existence of the compressed ball of matter that exploded at the beginning of time, just as your religion can't tell us who created God.

Could you provide me with your interpretation of those cryptic verses? I don't seem to understand how they are related to the question.

religion wants you to accept concepts dogmatically while atheists want proof to everything. So, both can never reach a consensus on the matter.

But which is more reasonable? Would you rather have a friend who reasons with you when you disagree on various issues in order to come to a consensus on what is really true, or a friend who insists that you must accept every silly idea that pops into his head without any proof?

Which God? The idea of remote God who went into hiding after starting the big bang can't be disproved, but such a God is irrelevant. If you're talking about an all-knowing God who makes mistakes, a loving God who plans to burn most people alive in fire for all eternity, or an all-powerful God who can't forgive sins unless someone who is his 'son', and also himself, is brutally executed, then one must reject that God.

Scientists have a pretty good explanation about how planets came to exist, in the aftermath of the big bang. If you aren't convinced by their explanation, that would not mean the Bible's account of creation is true. The honest position would be to say that you simply don't know how the earth came into existence. It is ok to say you don't know when you don't know.

I would like to know if the author of that verse was there when God was allegedly constructing all things. If not, then what makes you believe that what he wrote is correct?

How do you know this? Were you there when he was creating those things? Do you know anybody who was there as an eyewitness? If not, how can you be sure that what you said is the real truth?
