i don't know much about pitbulls, so I cannot categorically say that he is wrong. Pls do a google image search for "pitbull puppies". I would also advice you not to buy a male and female puppy from the same litter for breeding. Inbreeding is not ideal.

They look like pure local dogs. These dogs are independent, and easy to maintain. Great for those who want to live within their means.

I'm impressed by the quality advice on this thread. Things like jogging/walking with your dog, playing "fetch" on a large compound or field, taking your dog out to play with other dogs, and regular training sessions will satisfy your dog's need for mental and physical stimulation. Forget about punishment because the dog will not understand you unless you catch him in the act. If you catch him in the act, a loud shout is usually sufficient to correct a dog that's not feeling really frustrated, so pls avoid striking the dog! You should also consider placing all destructible items out of reach - i.e. dog-proofing your home - while also giving him access to plenty of toys to destroy.

In order to feed raw food conveniently with a balanced raw diet, you need two things: an accurate kitchen scale and a deep freezer. It's been a bit challenging for me because I have only a small freezer (in my fridge) and I have not been able to get a kitchen scale.

One idea I came up with recently is to combine equal portions of raw mackerel (titus) fish and chicken lap into each meal. Titus fish is good for organs and meat but deficient in bone, while regular chicken lap contains too much bone, so I figured that they would balance each other.

My dog weighs 30kg, so he's supposed to eat 600g (2%) to 900g (3%) of raw food daily. However, I want him to gain weight so I try to feed him 1kg (3.3%) instead. This means 250g of fish (1/2 of a big titus fish) and 250g of chicken (1kg divided into 4 portions) twice a day.

My dog seems to love this combination. If I feed him fish alone, or chicken alone, he seems to lose interest after a while. But if I feed titus fish first, followed by the chicken (which should be fed last to clean his teeth) he doesn't seem to lose interest. He seems to love the variety.

Fortunately (or unfortunately) I have just discovered a new meat source. Orobo chicken lap! It costs almost the same per kg as regular chicken lap, but the laps are huge (about 0.75kg) and have a high meat to bone ratio because they come from meaty broiler chickens. Buying this is a no-brainer since it has more meat for each naira spent, but its lower bone content might upset the balance of my fish & chicken lap recipe.

@sinnermanny: Please stop using ceramic plates to feed your dog. Use metal plates. The biggest that you can find, preferably from a pet store.

Please create a diary thread for your puppy and discuss everything you are doing to take care of her; I think you're making many mistakes.

At what age will the dog have her second heat?

If Drake is not allowed to roam the compound then maybe he doesn't consider the compound to be his territory. Maybe he only guards the house.

What are your reasons for getting this miniature American Eskimo? Where are you getting it from?

He is not a professional dog breeder. He got the dog as a gift and just wants to give it to a better home. We need to understand that.

That's not ideal ... he needs to drink water and pee and poop regularly. If you keep him tied inside, then he may learn to pee and poop in the house, and may also get dehydrated. Why do you keep him tied and inside the house? Is your compound shared with other tenants?

Jcob: the vet is really my problem. If only he can be truthful and tell me If this dog has ever barked. no need to play games. . . i can still go ahead to keep him as a future stud instead of security.

If he won't do the job then it would be better to sell him to someone who just needs an attentive pet. Using him as a stud would be a bad idea since some of his "kids" will have the same unwanted trait of not barking. However, we cannot conclude that the dog doesn't have the ability to bark. It's at least 3 months early! I believe he just needs some serious agitation in order to find his voice. If you can find experienced guys who have worked as agitators, that would be best. If not, we who've read books and watched videos will try our best to help.

Didn't the same vet tell you that Drake barks? Hasn't Drake been living in the same compound with the barking GSDs his entire life?

by the way what do you guys think of getting waste food from fast food joints? its N200 per kg.

It's worth trying. Please tell me how you got them to offer their waste food to you. Did you just ask the attendants?

@celestinho: Pls tell us what exactly you're planning to do before doing it. Otherwise you're very likely to damage your puppy permanently.

Thank you for not mutilating his ears. They look fantastic. Please post pictures of the parents so we can have an idea of what the puppy will grow up to be. 100% purity isn't compulsory as long as buyers are fully informed about what they are buying.

Tnx. The dog should always be chained when doing this form of training, though. It is very dangerous to provoke an unrestrained dog!

The last time the dog was frustrated it was due to food, so maybe we can use that. When the dog is hungry, chain the dog and place his food (raw chicken lap) just beyond his reach. Then have the stranger come around, making noise, etc. Then have the stranger take the chicken and start taunting the dog with it. Bringing it close to him, taking it away and laughing, etc. Or you could fry the chicken lap and have the stranger eat it in his presence while making fun of the dog. The moment the dog barks the stranger should drop the chicken and run away.

Jcob: So i tried this method this afternoon while I hid very close to the dog. Immediately the stranger stranger started hitting the gate roughly, drake stood up with all ears up. The gate was banged for 5 minutes while he maintained his posture. At the end, the stranger came in and went close to him . . . . . .stranger was afraid to move very close because of the size of the dog. But no single sound/bark! Can a dog be dumb?

Heh this is funny! Has he met the stranger before? Was he chained down? Did he back away from the stranger slightly as he was approached?
