Henrypraise: I didn't cross her durin d first heat.Good choice br. Now that she is more mature, complications due to pregnancy are less likely to happen. Where do you live? |
seyiola1: Sir how old is Bully and if you need a trainer I'm always at your service .What can you train a dog to do? seyiola1: You need to bath the dog every weekendYou don't need to do that unless the dog is dirty. Frequent bathing makes their skin dry and uncomfortable for them. We can afford to bath every day because we can use body lotion to replenish the oils lost from our skin, but there is no body lotion for dogs. However, you ought to brush your dog's hair frequently to remove dead hairs and make him look sharper, otherwise he will shed his dead hair all over your house. Can you post pictures of the dog please? I will post my answer to your main question later. |
This dog has seriously angry looking eyes. I wouldn't want to mess with him. |
Bump. Anyone? |
Odunharry: Seun u do av a nice dog..His previous owners named him Sloan. I got him less than 2 months ago. He was exactly 2 (or 3) years old at the time. |
tchidi: We had a dog with white mutt. One day we saw the mutt red, and he was licking his mouth! That is wrong on 2 levels: 1) It's cruel. 2) It doesn't even work because the dog wont understand why he is being beaten They are simply not that smart. Didn't deter the violent dog from doing it again, so we sold it to one Calabar man.Yep, as I said, it does not work. So you just brutalized the dog for nothing. the violent dogDogs are carnivores, like cats. Would you beat a cat and call it 'violent' because it killed a mouse? If you don't want violence, buy a little lamb! Idrismusty97: Of course that is what a dog is meant forPlease post the pictures! We train pigeons so it wouldn't be funny watching him kill pigeons. He would received beating of his life in front of the dead pigeon so he would know what he did wrong. It won't work. The dog won't understand that killing the pigeon has anything to do with the beating he's getting. Only humans are that smart. |
blackchukky: Why would you feed your dog with that.Dogs are a subspecies of the grey wolf. A dog's digestive system is very similar to that of a grey wolf because dogs are descendants of grey wolves. They have similar digestive systems which can digest and extract nourishment from raw meat much better than other types of food. The main reason I started feeding my dog with raw meat is that he came to me with yellow teeth and a bad mouth odor. When I fed him some raw chicken, I noticed that his teeth became whiter and his breath became quite alright. When I started feeding him dog food again, his teeth turned yellow and his breath became awful once again. He also became less lively (basically sleeping all the time). So I switched to raw for good. |
henry007: err I'm not pro docking, just stating facts here. they call it abnormalities but one i saw live looked.....well not prettyThen that dog should not have been allowed to breed. The vast majority (99.99%) of dogs whose tails are docked would've had beautiful tails. |
My dog killed a large rat (ekute) the first time he slept outside. Since then he's killed a pigeon and two tiny mice, also outside the house. He didn't eat any of them, even the ones he killed after I started feeding him raw chicken or fish every day. He almost killed a pigeon that got trapped inside the house in my presence, but I couldn't bear it so I opened the windows to let the pigeon escape. He hunts all small animals, including lizards (I've not had the privilege of seeing any dead lizard that he killed). I'm proud of his hunting skills; he's a good dog! What about your dog? What kind of animals have your dogs killed? Did they eat them? Do you try to discourage them? Do you have pictures?

Jcob: He obeys faster with food in hand. Sleep, Sit, Down. . .Wow, you taught him all that in 24 hours? Please we need you to describe how you did it! When I taught my dog the second command "down" he got confused, and started lying down when I said sit. I have since been trying to teach him the difference between the two. Please post tips! |

What is your budget for the dog? |
Steps to follow: 1) Go to www.youtube.com and upload videos of your trained dogs in action. 2) Post links to your youtube videos on this page so your skills can be assessed! |
oluomoadebayo: I'm talking from experience not research. How old is that Malinois? 4 months? If so, the OP's refusal to post the pictures of any of the parents is still a red flag. Also, I notice that Malinois puppy ears tend to curve inwards like the left ear on your puppy's pic most of the time (not always). We need to see more pictures of this guy. |
Jcob: 1. Drake doesn't bark! I tried all I could to even hear the barking sound but the best I heard was his moaning. What did his previous owner say when you asked him whether the dog barks? When I got my dog, I was told that the dog doesn't bark during the day but barks a lot at night. After I started locking him up whenever a visitor came around, he started barking during the day as well. 2. While walking him this evening, he did as if he didn't notice other barking dogs that saw him as threat. He didn't even look at them twiceThat's what is called a calming signal. By ignoring them your dog was telling them that he is no threat to them. Your dog is socially smart. 3. Drake likes sniffing the ground alotMaybe the ground in your home is far more interesting than the ones in his kennel. Most kennels have cement floors which are boring. 4. He pulls the leash while I draw him back trying to be domineering.Don't make that mistake. He's not trying to be domineering. Dominance theory has been discredited by scientists. Dogs pull on the leash because, to them, we walk very slowly. We are excruciatingly slow walkers to them. So they literally have to learn to walk in slow motion. Imagine if a tortoise was taking you for a walk. You would be very frustrated to walk at the same pace as the tortoise. The fact that the dog is pulling in the same direction you're moving shows that he is following your choice of where to go. He just wants to get there faster. 5. The dog has no major training so I would be dedicating 1 hour daily to train. Not bad. But you have to break the hour into many short sessions. A dog will get bored if training for a whole hour without a break. 6. Drake is sensitive to sounds and appearance. 2 strangers got into the compound today and he immediately stood erect with ears up. No barking nor attack though. It's too early for the dog to start defending your compound. He is not yet established in the home; he does not yet recognize it as his territory. If you want him to bark when he sees strangers, then you need to make sure he does not see strangers normally inside the compound. 7. Flies are perching the ears to cause injury - solution neededKill the flies in your compound bro. Consider examining that ear to make sure there's no open would that the flies are feasting on.8. Drake likes food and behaves in a funny way when he sees food. LolGood. A dog that likes food is a dog that can be trained |
henry007: many experts suggest its not wise to give a dog a bone especially ones that cause splinters.Raw bones rarely cause splinters because they are more flexible than cooked bones. You can take additional precautions: - Avoid giving dogs the load bearing bones of large animals (cow leg, goat leg, pig leg, etc). Over-excited dogs could break their teeth on them. - Don't feed very small bones to big dogs. They may be tempted to swallow the bones instead of chewing them properly, and choke on them. - Supervise your dogs when they are eating raw bones, especially when you've fed them a new type of bone that they have not eaten before. Our dogs at home have always eaten bones from our leftovers. Fried chicken or turkey bones. We just can't understand why we should throw perfectly good bones away when we have dogs that would kill for those bones. We've never had issues with feeding any type of chicken bones to our dogs. We're talking about 7 dogs over many years. However, we've had issues with cow bones. There've been times when our dogs got cow bones stuck on their teeth and one old dog who (probably) swallowed a cow bone and got sick because his body couldn't handle it. |
henry007: and most important, get an 8-10 week old puppy. good luckWhy? Children are rarely equipped to raise puppies properly. The first puppy we got when I was a kid bit me so many times during play. Why don't you guys like Labradors? |
Convince her to start wearing push-up bras at all times. When you're having the sex, do not remove the bra. I repeat, do not remove the bra. |
cooljyd: Colonel and Abby My favorite 2Two dogs in a house, and no tails. They look good, though, especially the fawn one. They look very well bathed and groomed too. Kudos! |
I appreciate this idea very much. Thanks for sharing it. It's thought me something important about what people want from Nairaland. |
Soknown: When I got my first GSD ('cos I have 2 now), my Vet was telling me about his own, and all the training, Sit , Go , Jump, Shake, Chase and Attack. I was thrilled but when my dogs could not obey chase or attack at 4 months I was worried and discouraged. One day I was feeding them and some one came into the premise and without prompting or command the two charged and wanted to chase the person, I quickly shouted stop, go back. I apologized to the man but I was happy inside me that yes, my dogs are getting it right.Your dogs have protective instincts, but if you want them to be more security conscious, you should not let them get used to the entry of outsiders into your compound. The way to achieve this is to always lock your dogs away before allowing outsiders into your compound. |
Adorayble: I feel so sad. I lost my dog today.Sorry dear. What killed your dog? wharlzywee: I can't stop crying when I lost my dog (most loved pet named sallie). Lost her sometime in july last year bt av gotten over her cos I still have a rottSorry bro. What killed sallie? |
henry007: http://www.african-boerboel.co.za/Tail%20docking.htmDid you read that page? It was written by a Boerboel breeder in South Africa who decided to stop docking the tails of his dogs even though it has not yet been banned in South Africa. He referred to tail docking as an immoral practice, which is painful to the puppies and has no practical purpose whatsoever. He also noted that tail docking doesn't prevent tail injuries, and that Boerboel dogs need their tails, and that Boerboels, Rottweilers, Boxers, etc actually look very nice when their tails are not docked; so it doesn't even make them look better. There is nothing on that page that support your notion that some breeds have "lazy tails" and therefore their tails must be mutilated. Nothing. Here's a picture of a Boerboel whose tail is intact: https://www.african-boerboel.co.za/images/Tessa080601-.JPG Isn't this Boerboel gorgeous? |
Labrador Retrievers are usually very good with children. GSDs are the most versatile dogs, so they can also be good with children, but Labs (and Golden Retrievers) are the best in that area. They're also very smart and eager to please their humans. If your primary objective is to have a dog that will play with your kids and that you can trust to never bite your kids, you should get the Labrador. They are the best for that. |
GeraldSima: I'l upload pix of mysef nd pups 2 prove I'm d rightful owner of thos pups...Good idea bro. |
I think some ppl are reselling pets listed on classifieds sites. They see an ad in one remote location and then repost it in a big city with a higher price. When you pay them, they'll buy the dog from the original advertiser and transport it to you in the big city. |
We will resume processing in the evening. Apologies for the delay. @AITACCRAGHANA: You want us to credit your account with money that you already spent. Well, I guess we are thinking about it. |
olumig: Can you post the pictures of the sire and dam tooThat's the same thing as father and mother. |
Please post pictures of the puppies with their mother and pictures from the mating of their father and mother. Thanks a million! |
