Career › Performance Reviews And Incentive Pay Are Harmful? by Seun(mod): 1:54pm On Jul 10, 2007
Joel Spolskly, a software businessman, writes that reviews and incentive pay are unhelpful because:
- They cheapen the work of those who are doing a good job
(makes them feel as if they are doing it just to get good reviews or extra pay)
- They damage the morale of those who are doing averagely well - the vast majority.
Alfie Kohn, in a now-classic Harvard Business Review article, wrote:

, at least two dozen studies over the last three decades have conclusively shown that people who expect to receive a reward for completing a task or for doing that task successfully simply do not perform as well as those who expect no reward at all. [HBR Sept/Oct 93]

He concludes that "incentives (or bribes) simply can't work in the workplace". DeMarco and Lister go further, stating unequivocally that any kind of workplace competition, any scheme of rewards and punishments, and even the old fashion trick of "catching people doing something right and rewarding them," all do more harm than good. Giving somebody positive reinforcement (such as stupid company ceremonies where people get plaques) implies that they only did it for the lucite plaque; it implies that they are not independent enough to work unless they are going to get a cookie; and it's insulting and demeaning

If performance reviews don't work, and incentive pay causes more harm than good,
then how can employers motivate their employees to do the best jobs possible? huh

This kind of unique bridge design can be employed in a situation of war.

Don't be simple-minded; he is not a 'nice guy' or anything like that.
He is just trying to promote his website without paying any money.
If you want to advertise your website on this forum, then feel free.
Go to http://adwords.google.com/ and place your ads for as low as 10 naira.

What Lush has been doing is known as Link Spam.
If he loves you so much, why must he force you to visit his website?

Why can't he just copy those vacancies and paste them here directly?

You need to really know what you want in a husband. Can you be with this man forever? Do you understand each other? Those are the issues. I'll advice you to visit a counselor since your parents aren't being helpful.

She may not be able to write good songs, and in fact most performers do not write their songs, but she should be able to say, "this song is bad for me!" or "get me a songwriter who does gospel". It's so important. sad

Music/Radio › Fantasia Barrino Does Not Choose Her Songs Well by Seun(mod): 8:26am On Jul 09, 2007
Fantasia Barrino's failure to really succeed in the music industry really frustrates me. She has every reason to succeed: vocal talent, looks, age, charisma. So why isn't she doing so well: because she's choosing the wrong songs. This is sad because even a baby watching American idol would have chosen better songs for her.

Here is a lady that charmed all of us by single Aretha Franklin type songs and won the American Idol competition, only to start releasing Hip Hop and RnB tracks, choosing a Rapper as her role model. Hello? Did you win the American Idol competition by rapping? Did you win American Idol by singing hiphop? Why change a winning style?

Fantasia Barrino's best singing style can be described in various words: 'gospel', 'screamer', 'Aretha Frankling type'. She should be singing a mixture of simple pop songs involving a lot of 'screaming' and inspirational/gospel music because that's what she does best. She shouldn't think that being black means doing hiphop. She is not that kind of black. She is a Mary J Blidge kind of black. A good girl 'gospel' type.

And if she wants to sing love songs, she should sing songs about love going well. And the decision to dedicate her first albums to 'baby mamas'? Very wrong. Baby Mamas have no money to buy your CDs, girl! angry

Want more proof that her song choice is bad: her only number 1 song "I Believe" was an American Idol song.
