Michael Carrick believes Manchester United go into Tuesday's Barclays Premier League clash with Stoke City
ready to continue a good run of
results.

Louis van Gaal's side maintained their position in the top four with an emphatic 3-0 defeat of Hull City at Old Trafford on Saturday.

That was United's third straight victory and the Dutch manager hailed the performance as their most convincing of the season so far.

Carrick echoed those thoughts and feels United are beginning to settle into a rhythm, even though Angel di Maria looks set to be missing after limping off early against Hull.

"It was a good performance and a good win," Carrick told MUTV.

"We controlled the game from the start and played some really good football. Hopefully there will be more of the same on Tuesday.

"Our downfall this season is that we've had to change the team too much and we haven't had a consistent run with this squad.

Hopefully that will change now and it's nice to have a game so quick so we can keep that momentum going.

It was a good performance and win against Hull but it's behind us now and our focus is on Tuesday.

" United fans will have been particularly pleased to see Robin van Persie score his first BPL goal in November with a superb strike against Hull City.

"It was some strike," added Carrick. "It was only really half a chance but he's controlled it and smashed it into the top corner.

It's great when the boys up front are
creating chances and scoring goals. If we can do what we did on Saturday on a more regular basis, we'll be a real threat.

" Stoke must try to recover from suffering back-to-back defeats against Burnley and Liverpool since returning from the international break.

Mark Hughes will at least have taken some comfort from the impressive performance of Bojan Krkic at Anfield, with the Spaniard unlucky not to score with one particular effort which came crashing back off the post.
"He was the best player on the pitch, there was no doubt about that," said Hughes.

"He's up to speed now and getting to grips with everything. You can see that he's stronger than he was at the beginning of the season.

"He's always looking to be positive with his play and technically he can receive the ball in tight areas, which is important for us. He's getting better with every game now.

" Steve Sidwell (knee) and his replacement Glenn Whelan (calf) were both forced off with injuries at Anfield and appear unlikely to feature for Stoke against United.
However, Phil Bardsley will hope to return at right-back after
missing the Liverpool game due to
a sickness bug.

Alex Bruce says Hull City must find a way to keep an in-form
Wayne Rooney quiet on Saturday if they are to end their poor run of form.

Hull travel to Old Trafford on the back of three consecutive defeats and just one win in their last 11 Barclays Premier League matches, a run which has seen them slip to just one place and a point above the relegation zone.
Manchester United have won nine matches in a row against Hull and will be confident of stretching that run to 10 after they beat Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium last weekend to ensure they sit fourth in the table.

Rooney was on target in that 2-1 win against Arsene Wenger's side, having scored three goals in two appearances for England against Slovenia and Scotland during the international break.

The striker scored a sublime volley in a 3-2 victory over Hull at the KC Stadium last season as United fought back from two goals down to win.

Rooney also helped himself to all four goals in a 4-0 thrashing of Hull at Old Trafford four years ago and ex-United academy defender Bruce is well aware that his side need to keep a close eye on the 29-year-old this weekend.

I watched the Manchester derby and
he nearly scored a great goal with a turn when he ran through, only to be knocked off the ball at the end.

"It shows the quality he has and he's always capable of scoring a great goal at any given moment, like he did at the KC Stadium last season when he produced a little bit of magic with a 25-yard volley from nowhere that got them back into the game.

"It's one thing we have to keep on
top of.

" But Bruce, who could be back in contention on Saturday following a spell on the sidelines with a hamstring injury, knows it is not only Rooney who is capable of causing Hull problems this weekend.

"Louis van Gaal has brought in some quality players like Angel di Maria and Radamel Falcao,” he added. “There are threats all over the pitch and I think Marouane Fellaini has done well in the past few weeks.

"He's been playing well and I think he has been one of United's best players in recent weeks.

He's a threat as well as a big physical
presence.

" United left-back Luke Shaw is set to miss out after sustaining an ankle injury at Arsenal, but striker Falcao returned to training this week after recovering from a calf injury.

Van Gaal could also welcome back Jonny Evans (ankle) after he got through 64 minutes of a Lancashire Senior Cup win for the United reserves this week.

Daley Blind (knee), Marcos Rojo (shoulder), Phil Jones (shin) are all out and it remains to be seen if Rafael da Silva (muscle problem) is available to return.

Hull will be without Gaston Ramirez after he was sent off on his first start for the club in last Sunday's 2-1 home defeat to Tottenham Hotspur, but Mohamed Diame could return after it was revealed his knee injury is not
serious.

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo and a former military dictator, Gen. Ibrahim Babangida, were both absent from President Goodluck Jonathan’s declaration to contest the 2015 presidential election in Abuja on Tuesday.

Obasanjo and Babangida are both members of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

It would be recalled that Babangida was among those who contested for the party’s presidential ticket in 2011, but lost to Jonathan, while Obasanjo was a former chairman of the PDP’s Board of Trustees (BOT), but later resigned from the position over issues regarding how the party was being run.

Many reports say Obasanjo is against the second term ambition of Jonathan because he (Jonathan) allegedly agreed with the leadership of the PDP, including the governors in 2011, that he would only be in office for one term.

Babangida’s absence however may be due to the fact that he just returned from a two month medical trip abroad.
