Dawdy: U Guys are not In Osun, Therfore U have no clue About the affairs of Osun Staten. All u Need is to visit Osiun State to see the work being Done. ''Seeing is believing''

That is why it is not advisable for viewers to reach a conclusion based on people's posts read on this forum. Most people comment on issues they have little or no idea of. I was amazed at the amounts of projects going on in that state and thought that had it been previous governors of that state did half of what their present governor is doing, that state shouldn't have been in the condition it is. I'm impressed with what I have seen in the state.

Ignoring comments and posts from ignorant members on this forum is essential, the only reason I'm posting is because of your reasonable post.

Why I’m not commissioning projects - Aregbesola
OSUN State governor, Mr Rauf Aregbesola, on Monday, advanced reasons for not commissioning most of the capital projects completed by his government, saying  “our administration do not believe in the commissioning of projects.”
He said the projects belonged to the people, adding that implementing such projects and provision of infrastructure were the statutory responsibilities of any responsive government.
Fielding questions from journalists in Osogbo, after inspecting some ongoing projects in the capital city, Aregbesola also dismissed claims by the opposition that the state is broke, contending that “Osun is economically strong, in spite of the massive construction works ongoing in all parts of the state.”
He stated that “our administration do not believe in the commissioning of projects. We believe it is the people’s project. So, why must you commission it? In all the advanced countries in the world, we don’t see leaders commissioning projects the way we do in this country.”
The governor said commissioning of projects was another way of wasting public fund, adding that he was satisfied with the level of works done by the contractors handling various projects in the state.

Contrary to insinuations in some quarters that Osun was insolvent, Aregbesola affirmed that the economy of the state was growing, just as he described the opposition leaders in the state as “political jobbers who, despite the massive transformation of the state in the past two years, sees nothing good about the present administration in the state.”
According to him, “today, I can say that the state is not insolvent. The question of insolvency should not even arise at all. They are just blabbing and we would not be distracted by their negative comments.”

Traffic volume is not the only factor to be considered for the necessity of a pedestrian bridge. The type of road also determines. It is not expected of anyone to cross high-speed road especially if it is a dual carriage one, irrespective of volume of the traffic.

Politics / Re: Jonathan To Break ACN Strangehold On South West With Ministerial Appointments by sEyi6: 12:42am On Apr 08, 2013
I wonder who the advisers of our wonderful president are. Who is Jimmy Agbaje in SW politics? Sincerely, I read that name first on this forum. The man that seems to be the strongest man in the ruling party then(obj) wasn't able to deliver his zone to his daughter, she lost to an ordinary candidate who has never had any outstanding record in politics. Which makes me wonder how the appointment of the likes of Agbaje or Akinyemi as minister results to the break of ACN stronghold in the Southwest.
As at now if any of those nominees contest in their respective senatorial districts, the possibility of them all loosing woefully to any candidate the dominant party in the SW nominate is very high.
This guy jonathan shouldn't because of his desperate mind commit massive political blunder. Creating inessential ministries all in the name of pleasing the people that no matter how much you pretend to satisfy them their politically matured mind won't make them fall a bit for his deceit.

@ Rossikk
Any African literate I assume knows Africa is misrepresentation by the western media.
Yes we are not taking it important and that's why we are going to continue being misrepresented until we take actions to reduce it.
Politics / Re: Do You Think It's The "Western Media" Or Nl's That Gives Nigeria The Bad Image? by sEyi6: 2:47pm On Apr 05, 2013
Rossikk: I agree with you that we should do more to address the issue, but the first step is to acknowledge that we are being thoroughly misrepresented, which is what the discussion is about. Also, I do not believe that China was subjected to the same grotesque level of misrepresentation as Africa was, before they set up CCTV. Africa is uniquely misrepresented by western media.

Okay, you and I have admitted that Africa is being wrongly represented by the western media, is that the answer or solution to it? Acknowledging it is not the solution but doing what's necessary to change it by ourselves(Africans)
Politics / Re: Do You Think It's The "Western Media" Or Nl's That Gives Nigeria The Bad Image? by sEyi6: 2:05pm On Apr 05, 2013
Rossikk: It is the western media that have been, and have always been anti-African. On NL, when twenty people say they have seen no light, something like 50 or more people will say the light has improved, but the western media will report the former and ignore the latter. Don't blame NL for that. Do you know in all the years I have been watching CNN and BBC etc, I've never seen a decent house in Africa being shown on their screen? If I was not an African I would think there were no proper houses in Africa, and that everyone lived in shanties or huts. It is deliberate misrepresentation of the continent in order to ridicule black people. No two ways about it.

Something else you'll notice is, when CNN for instance wants to feature a poor African in a story, they start by showing his shanty house from the outside before moving in to encounter the subject. But if the subject is a well to do person or group in a decent house, they'll home in straight into the internal scene or room, without showing the exterior of the building.

You are correct about your assertions but I put "very little" blames on the western media. And why Must the western media be the ones to telecast events and happenings in Africa to you and I? What have Africans done to broadcast themselves rather than waiting for someone from another continent to do it for them?

Do you think the Westerners were saying something good of China before now? If not for the like of CCtv(Central China Television) that took the bull by on by going international in different languages and showcasing what they've got contrary to what the western media were transmitting to the world.
Thanks to the likes of Press TV(Iran), Aljazeera(U.A.E) for bringing up cover-ups and lies the western media were used to telling us about the middle east.

What is the first TV Network in Africa(NTA) that should have a good reflector of Nigeria's image doing concerning this?
The audio and graphics quality are enough to make international viewers conclude that Africa is in a sorry case and a big hell hole. I'm sure the NTA should have been the TV station representing Africa had it been those in charge of it before(NTA Ibadan) were still in charge.

Thanks to the private ones like channelsTV, Galaxy TV, AIT and the rest for making effort in eradicating these lazy acts, wish they have the resources and strength the NTA has.
Africans shouldn't expect anyone, nation to speak for them like cry babies, the speaking must be done for and by us

Got this while surfing the net
The survey, published on Thursday, March 23 is titled “African futures 2050” and was conducted by Institute for Security Studies (ISS), an organization based in South Africa that works on “a spectrum of human security issues from environmental security to population movement, to terrorism to post conflict reconstruction,” according to the institute website. The study placed Nigeria and South Africa as the first and second African powers that will be most influential in the continent respectively, while Egypt took fourth place preceded by Ethiopia.

Mainly conducted by Dr. Jakkie Cilliers, ISS Executive Director, the study further asserts that African influence will keep ballooning in the global arena as well. An estimate also avers that Africa will secure close to 110 trillion dollars in yearly revenues in the year 2030 through growth patterns similar to Indian trends. Moreover, it is contended in the survey that the continent will not see the influential dominance of one nation. The four countries, however, will have comparable authority in continental issues, as indicated by the yardsticks employed in gauging these trends and arriving at these projections.

“Although climate change will take its toll on the continent, Africa will continue to grow undeterred,” Dr. Cilliers said in a speech she delivered at the launch of the publication.

If only there's relatively peace in nigeria without hatred, nepotism, tribalism, ethinicity and of recent terrorism this country would've been a force to be reckon with.

Reading this for the first time- "country's currency value determines it economical strength". Wow!

What position is the UK that has the most valuable currency? Sixth or thereabout while China with a very ridiculous currency in term of value is second.
Was in Ghana some years back when the country's currency was re-decimalized and named "Ghana-cedi" from ordinary "cedi". A ghana-cedi was equivalent to N92(Nigeria's Naira), till today and in the next decades Ghana's economy can't reach half of Nigerias'.

I term that ignorance to rate economy on currency value.

Some of us are interpreting the topic of the thread wrongly. The Op wasn't asking for comparism whatsoever. The topic says "which is more influential in Africa: Nigeria or South Africa". Not which is the strongest politically, economically, etc.
Another thread can be created to tackle these.

From history Nigeria is more influential. Even S/A's history is incomplete without stating Nigeria's influence on her during the apartheid era which paved way for the liberation of the black South Africans.

Nigeria's influence on African countries are way more pronounced.
The dead military ruler of Libya knows better. He was never in good relationship with Nigeria which made him have less supporter among the countries in Africa during the time he needed Africa's support against the western powers, despite the 100% support he had from SA he failed.
When it comes to elective positions in AU, Nigeria's choice most time takes the lead.

Economically, SA is more influential which anytime soon will be overtaken by Nigeria as the nation to reckon with in Africa's economy.

Unnecessary 'factors' of someone's death being considered before a well appreciated thread is put at fp is childish.

Not a lover of propaganda but I must say this is commendable. A thread was created to get details of how much progress has been made on a huge project, but was turned to comparism of political leaders and 'bad mouth' of a project that seems to be intimidating. Pictures were uploaded(though lately) for doubting Thomases, showing real progress in the project being put in doubt. But started whining in an entirely different way.
Give credit to this initiative and to the brains behind it, it's the first of it kind in the country and not even the stronger Federal government with more resources has done anything similar.
I strongly wish some of us can keep mute on things/projects we are not happy about due to our envying nature rather than talking ill of them even when being proved to be outstanding and progressive.
