Which country can be corrupt than one that the president eats food worth billions of naira, first lady building a 4billion naira house, removed subsidy and still borrowing billions from China, yet she is the 7th highest exporter of petroleum? cheesy

Politics / Re: FG To File Defence In Lekki-ikoyi Bridge Suit by sEyi6: 5:00am On Jul 11, 2013
Lagos state gov saw the need to construct a bridge on a federal waterway to ease the traffic in the state, built the bridge and tolled the bridge after completion.
Lagosians have the option to either use the longer existing route freely or use the shorter newly constructed route.

Already, Lagos gov has successfully reduced the traffic on the old route, such that citizens that don't care about the tolling of the new bridge won't pass the old one, and the fact that many Lagosians are always in haste means many will go for the tolled bridge, leaving the old for the common Lagosians. Thereby splitting the traffic.

What has the federal government been doing all these years that it was obvious that a bridge is needed on that waterway to ease traffic?
If the federal government had constructed the bridge, will the Lagos state gov go ahead to toll the bridge?

Looks like the federal government is discouraging the state government in taking up responsibilities that they(fg) are incompetent of.

The FG shouldn't have mentioned anything related to the bridge, because it is their incompetent @ss that Lagos government is saving.

No sane human will pass through or see the bridge and won't appreciate the brain behind it. In short the Federal government is envious of Lagos state.

Politics / Re: Will Jonathan Win A Second Term? by sEyi6: 4:14am On Jul 11, 2013
However, there has been some good news lately. The President recently inaugurated the construction of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway. Let’s just hope the project will not become abandoned like the previous
attempts. The federal roads across the country are also said to be getting the attention they deserve. This is not forgetting the ongoing rehabilitation in the nation’s airports. But all this will pale into insignificance when compared to the dashed expectations of this government. It is for these reasons that Jonathan may lose in 2015. All things being equal, anyway.

Undiluted fact

Politics / Re: B-R-E-A-K-I-N-G News! Gun Battle Rages In Port Harcourt, Rivers State. by sEyi6: 9:52pm On Jul 10, 2013
All these because the president and the governor are not in good term?! neglecting the people that elected them into the position they are presently both misusing by causing unrest and putting citizens' lives at risk. They both seem too desperate to be second in command not to mention being in charge of any position. If at all one of them is to carry the higher blame, it is definitely the president. He is presently ridiculing that position by involving himself in this shameful act. And if it is the governor that is being childish, then the president with greater responsibility should have maturely calm the atmosphere and responsibly corrected the misbehaving governor.

If these are the types of leaders we continue to vote into power, then we should all be ready to bear the consequences.
Politics / Re: Another Aircrash In USA- Killing 10 by sEyi6: 6:31pm On Jul 08, 2013
ogugua88:

Record-breaking? According to who?

Major crashes are a rarity here. The Korean airliner was due to piloting error. The pilot landing the plane was the most inexperienced out of all four. He has very little experience with a 777. It was also his first time landing in San Francisco and did not receive help (or enough of it) from his more-experienced peers. It was too low, too slow, and they did not signal for help until 1.5 seconds before impact.

As for the Alaskan crash, it's an unfortunate tragedy. No one is saying it's okay, but put things in perspective. 2 planes crashing out of approximately 90,000 is 0.000022%. Of course one would wish the number is 0, but that's life for you. Crashes will happen due to mechanics, human error, or circumstances beyond their control, such as weather. The USA does a great job in preventing crashes and preventing loss of life if they do happen. The USA isn't perfect and never will be, but they certainly know how to be the best or one of the best in a lot.

If you choose to not crash at all, then stay home. Life can never be without disaster. Disasters can be reduced, and they have been immensely, at least over here.

Staying at home does not even guarantee safety. What if plane crashes into a person's house who stays at home trying to be safe?

OP if I am not wrong, you are comparing the cost of building a suspended bridge that has its base and its whole structural members in the water
With the cost of a 126.7km road with a flyover on a plain dry ground that is to be widen halfway on an existing route?
Lol...

Compare the pictures below this post and judge yourself.
The fist pic is the Lekki-ikoyi link bridge and the later is the existing Lagos-Ibadan expressway that is to be widen and renovated

Prof Corruption: PDP is crying wolf where there is none.
I am surprised too. The ruling party is the mastermind of endorsement in Nigeria's present politics.

Like Obasanjo from PDP endorsed Fayoshe in ruling Ekiti before things fell apart.
Like OBJ endorsed Yar'Adua to rule Nigeria.
Same OBJ endorsed Jonathan as Yar'Adua's vice and also endorsed him in 2011 in PDP primaries and for the general election.
PDP is not worthy of policing other parties for endorsing anyone, because they are the don in it.

Some governors are ‘scarce commodities’ as far as visiting the Villa is concerned. One that stands out is Rauf Aregbesola of Osun State. He is not known for regular visits. Many times, he will not attend NEC meetings and will not bother to send a representative. Somebody close to the governor said he vowed that he would only attend such meetings when serious issues are discussed. His definition of ‘serious issues’ is only known to him, so he goes with his own award……the least visiting governor.

I was actually thinking it is going to be Fashola,by mistake forgot Ogbeni.
Most of his actions are irrational and weird to most people, but they've all worked for him.
One of it was the previous NGF election he recorded, we wouldn't have know what actually happened or who the real winner is if not for Aregbe, lol. As if he knew a miracle was going to happen after the election.

Another one was how he disagreed with his party in winning SW vote for GEJ in the previous general election, his state was the only state in the whole south that voted against Jonathan.

Many times, he will not attend NEC meetings and will not bother to send a representative. Somebody close to the governor said he vowed that he would only attend such meetings when serious issues are discussed.

Does he mean there are times unserious discussions and meetings are made in Aso rock?

franktolk: Its high time Nigerians stopped erecting new structures in an unplanned environment . we are quick to jump into any forest (unplanned area) and build our so called Mansion and after that we would then start clamouring for government to bring in necessary social amenities . I feel our urban Planning department should ensure that no new housing project is embarked on an unplanned area. To me its more like an encroahmennt. What is the benefit of having a beautiful edifice in an area without accessible road.

The town planners must have approved the plan and given them a go-a-head about the location before they can start any construction.

Sister, may be you shouldn't have concluded. I know of, entered and sat in a storey building built of clay bricks as walls and timbers as the deck and also the stairs. Built over 5 decades and still structurally sound.

Bro , fine structure you are erecting there . To your assertion , I want you to know that size and designs are determinant factors in the cost of building project , in your case citing the width of that picture you posted , it must be more than 5 bedrooms duplex , or if it happen to be , it means you wasted a lot of space for inconsequential things . I have been there before , so I know what M8.8 naira can achieve when managed prudently .

I think we all need to know that fact. The low cost begins with the architects' design. The architect needs briefing on what the client is willing to spend on the project which makes the architect to give a suitable design for the cost the client is capable of. The contractor also plays an important role is reducing cost.

You think we have money and time for termite damage, flood sweeping away our houses. Do you think we have insurance on houses? We build it solid so it can last for years. The down side is that you cannot easily modify. Who cares about modifying if you get it all planned out at once.

No, there shouldn't be termite damage or water percolation if woods are used as partition walls and non load bearing walls(not external), provided the DPC is well made and it is a beam and column framed building.

Good to see that Nigeria is diverting her too much dependence away from the west. But we should not be too glad because those we are going to meet or should I say bow to as our next boss "oga at the top", China too will one day or at a time begin to take for granted, by then we won't be able to survive without them and definitely find it very difficult to return to out former 'savior'. Not until we find a lasting solution of less dependence on others for things/products/services we cannot do without before countries give us the little respect we deserve.
Not until we start serious production and have something to boast of that other countries can't do without, we will remain a begging nation. Everyday, our major source of survival "oil" keeps loosing its value in the world market, this we are mute about.
Let's assume countries discover alternative to this one thing we all put our lives on, what will be our fate?
