nigerianvenom:well he is your president so you better go hang yourself. |
sweat4wat:you don't deploy drones blindly. this is not a war front. Do you know how many months and years americans gather intels before the deploy just one drone? |
Bjergtrolde:but you don't know who your father is, do you? no lie o. |
tete7000:you err my dear. They were achieved during this past 30 days during PMB's administration..... |
tete7000:If the method GEJ has used for the last 6 years was not successful, why should buhari still follow up on it blindly? GEJ was using mindless assault on the insurgency and not intelligence gathering. What did his state of emergency achieve? reason man. |
A lot has being said about the lackadaisical attitude of the current administration towards defeating Boko Haram and i am not here to join issues. All i am asking is that we look at it from another angle. To me, Buharis has made more progress against boko haram in 30 days than Jonathan has made in 6 years. You doubt? Let's take a look at PMB's achievement against boko ramam in 30 days. - He arrested boko haram chief financier http://thenewsnigeria.com.ng/2015/07/02/breaking-chad-arrests-boko-haram-leader-financier/What i think PMB is doing is gathering intelligence and partnerships so that he can fully tackle this insurgency once and for all. By arresting their chief financier, he has access to the core of their operations. Boko Haram boys know this. That is why they are bombing vehemently to force the government to commit; to force the government into a blind offensive operation. Doing this would take us all back to square one. Defeating an insurgency is not all shot and shot. You can ask the Americans. It takes massive intelligence gathering so that you don't only defeat them, but you also curb their re-insurgence. I believe in PMB. Do you? |
themilanway:Exactly. And just today a car laden with explosives was intercepted. That is the level we are heading. Nigeria has never had boko haram in control like it does now. |
He never said it. If you insist that he did, then provide the source. That statement was made by some state APC stalwarts. |
ERODEDEAST:change does not happen overnight.....especially not after many long years of inertia. |
raayah:Baba is not just taking his time. he is working hard as we speak, towards defeating the insurgency. Underground work is the most important work. |
YOBE?? God Forbid |
lekankolade:Totally. Buhari is not one to slack. I know and believe in the man. |

Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila's faction of the House of Representatives have hinted that Speaker of the House Yakubu Dogara, and his loyalists are planning to defect to the People's Democratic Party. Gbajabiamila made the claim in a presentation made at the faction's meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari at Aso Rock yesterday. "The conduct of the 39 APC members colluding with the PDP is tantamount to affront, ultimately targeted at polarising our party so as to give room for many of them to decamp to the PDP," part of the letter read. "The 39 APC members in the house continue to collude with the PDP to flagrantly disobey Mr. President, the governors and the party with a view to bringing the party and government to ridicule before Nigerians. "It is therefore imperative for Mr. President to take a stand and save the integrity of the party, by cautioning, the 39 members, which include the speaker and the deputy speaker, to respect, honour and obey our party leaders and their directives. According to a report on Vanguard Newspaper, the President of Nigerian Optometric Association NOA Dr. Damian Echendu, has said that no fewer than forty- five million persons will go blind by 2020 globally. Already, it is estimated that about 285 million people are visually impaired worldwide, 14% of whom are completely blind representing an astonishing 39 million people. Furthermore, it is even more disheartening that not less than 80% of these cases of blindness are preventable or treatable if appropriate measures are taken towards addressing the more common causes of blindness like cataracts, refractive errors, glaucoma, and diabetes. According to the International Classification of Diseases - 10 (ICD-10), four levels of visual function have been described viz normal vision, moderate visual impairment, severe visual impairment and lastly blindness. Hence, blindness represents the worst case scenario in the spectrum of visual function. Moderate and severe visual impairment are collectively referred to as Low Vision whereas blindness essentially refers to a complete loss of vision. In the light of the enormous burden of visual impairment especially in the developing countries, the World Health Assembly under the aegis of the World Health Organization instituted an action plan to facilitate universal access to eye health. The aim was to achieve at least 25% reduction in the number of cases of preventable visual impairment by 2019. Described below are some time-tested measures that have been shown to be effective in preventing avoidable causes of blindness: 1. Keep your blood sugar normal Diabetes mellitus is characterized by high blood glucose levels and is one of the very important causes of permanent blindness. While you may not have total control over whether you develop diabetes or not, the fact remains that you still have some control by adopting healthy lifestyles like regular exercise and good diet which will go a long way in keeping your blood sugar within normal limits. Diabetes mellitus can cause serious damage to the retina (diabetic retinopathy) leading to blindness. Hence, patients with diabetes are supposed to undergo a thorough eye examination by a trained physician at least once a year. Moreover, diabetes is a potent risk factor for cataracts which is a leading cause of blindness. 2. Quit Smoking Smoking damages every organ in the body and the eyes are no exception. Research has shown that smoking increases the likelihood of going blind in old age by up to four times. Evidently, it damages different parts of the eye including the lens (cataracts), macula (macular degeneration) and retinal blood vessels (retinopathy). Furthermore, research has shown that smokers have a double risk of developing cataracts as well as a three-fold risk of Age-related Macular Degeneration later in life. Tears produced by the lacrimal glands are necessary for eye lubrication and maintaining healthy eyes. However, tobacco irritates the eyes and impairs the production of tears ultimately setting the stage for visual impairment and eventual blindness. 3. Avoid Trauma to your Eyes Trauma - blunt or penetrating is the leading cause of unilateral blindness in individuals younger than 45 years. Penetrating trauma directly undermines the lens capsule leading to opacification at the site of injury and blindness if the rent or tear is extensive. In the same vein, prolonged exposure to ionizing radiation also traumatizes the eye lens and leads to avoidable blindness. 4. Consume more Vitamins and Minerals Age-related Macular Degeneration is another important cause of blindness. A reduced incidence of Age-related Macular Degeneration was noted among individuals who consumed enough antioxidant vitamins and minerals including Vitamins A, C, E, zinc, and copper. Also, lutein (a carotenoid found in dark leafy green vegetables), omega-3 fatty acids and zeaxanthin may also reduce the risk of Age-related Macular Degeneration. Sadly, every year, at least half a million children go blind, no thanks to deficiency of Vitamin A in their diets which lead to avoidable night blindness. 5. Wear the Proper Glasses Refractive errors (myopia, hypermetropia, and astigmatism) are a leading cause of blindness globally. The good news is they can be readily corrected by a simple pair of prescription glasses. It's noteworthy however that making use of the wrong type of glasses can even worsen your vision, hence the need to consult the optometrist for proper evaluation of both eyes before suitable glasses are prescribed. 6. Treat Eye Infections Promptly Trachoma and Onchocerciasis are the leading infectious causes of avoidable blindness and can be readily treated with appropriate drugs. In a bid to cut down on the incidence and prevalence of trachoma-related blindness, the World Health Organization advocates the SAFE strategy for trachoma control. Components of the strategy include Surgery, Antibiotics, Facial cleanliness and Environmental improvement. Fortunately, medications like azithromycin and ivermectin have proved effective in treating trachoma and onchocerciasis (river blindness) respectively. Nnamdi Kalu, the name behind the radio, who is fondly called ‘Director’, has not been going about his endeavour in a manner that prevents the agitation of other members of the public. As it seems, the radio is winning several admirers among southerners in Nigeria on a daily basis. In two separate newspaper articles published in 2006 and 2009 in the New Sentinel and Sunday Trust, and credited to one of us, the manner of Boko Haram’s total disregard for civil values was the point of discourse. The report in question warned that the government’s disregard of the rebellious inclination of the group would amount to a calculated catastrophe to society. The authorities ignored this at society’s general peril. Last week, the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) urged Nigerians to simply ignore Radio Biafra, a broadcast platform that has committed time, energy and resources to peddling resentful communication about Nigeria and its constituted authorities. The management of NBC claims that they are aware of the pirate radio station, which is “transmitting seditious and divisive content contrary to the provisions of the Nigeria Broadcasting Code and law” and they are “working with security agencies to track the source of the broadcast.” Nnamdi Kalu, the name behind the radio, who is fondly called ‘Director’, has not been going about his endeavour in a manner that prevents the agitation of other members of the public. As it seems, the radio is winning several admirers among southerners in Nigeria on a daily basis. According to a random survey for the purpose of this article, an increasing number of traders, men and women in villages, schools and in commuter buses tune in to the 97.6 band width. In Aba, Abia State, the radio’s audience is growing steadily among young people. A public commentator known on Twitter as “Onye Nkuzi” (@cchukudebelu), recently dissected this phenomenon, lamenting on the social media platform that “the Nigerian State doesn’t have a narrative to challenge alienation – we’ve seen it in the North East and Niger Delta. It pops up again.” Radio Biafra, like the ongoing insurgency in North-East Nigeria feeds on alienation to peddle a culture of violence as retribution for real and perceived injustice. Meanwhile, it serves every society well to pay due attention to signals and other sub-signals with the potentials to erupt into disturbing cauldrons of widespread violence. In Asaba, Delta state, an Igbo man brought the consciousness of Radio Biafra to some of us one evening, with frightful alacrity, and implored everyone present to tune to the station. As soon as the bandwidth was accessed, the voice of ‘Director’ Nnamdi Kanu came through forcefully over the airwaves. It was an arresting, almost hypnotic voice, to say the least, but it was not the voice that was the issue but the substance of what he was saying and how he said it that called for concern. Many listeners who do not know otherwise or who have a distorted understanding of what led to the Nigerian-Biafran civil war in 1967 and its concomitant effects of seemingly irreconcilable differences listen spellbound to the voice of “director” as it resonates over the waves with ceaseless histrionics. He seems tireless, with his commentaries on a wide range of subjects all geared towards the need for the burdened southern region to secede from the North and “the hypocritical South-West”, to quote the words of the radio’s presenter. Our investigations have observed, most painfully, that the Director has a growing influence on many from the other side of the Niger. The danger in this is that people in the region are beginning to accept whatever he says as gospel truth; to the unreasoning, Director, as he chooses to be addressed, is framing the minds of many of such listeners and predisposing them to dangerous tendencies. Without going into specifics, relevant authorities should know the peril of a collective mind-set propelled towards a particularly dangerous direction. On a bus from Asaba to Onitsha, the conductor was busy regaling passengers about the resurgence of the Biafran agenda, the Biafran currency, flag, identity card, and how personnel of the Nigerian Police are according great recognition to the Biafran identity card, including their disposition to setting people free of any offence the moment s/he brandishes the card. The bus conductor was very vociferous in his claims and on an attempt to draw the passengers’ attention to the folly of these claims, one suddenly realised that the commuters were more given to emotion than reason, and to avoid the rising belligerency of some of the passengers, including the driver, one was compelled to channel the discussion to safer grounds. Late Muhammad Yusuf, the founder of what started as a ragtag band of fundamentalists in Maiduguri, which subsequently transformed into a dreaded Jihadi movement with global affiliations, did not have a radio of his own. He relied on cassette recordings of his messages which were influenced by hardline Salafi teachers to woo youths to his flock. However, both Mohammed Yusuf and now Nnamdi Kalu of Biafra Radio have one thing in common – their messages have the undivided attention of teeming youths in their regions. It is important to note here that ‘terrorism’ means different things to different people. While a huge number of people in the Islamic world do not view groups like Al-Shabab, Taliban, Islamic State and their affiliates as terrorists, the majority consider them as full blown terrorists. It is the same with the Biafran movement, with a growing number of people considering the rebellion as an inalienable right that may offer Igbos freedom from the Hausa/Fulani hegemony. Indeed, Radio Biafra is a ticking time bomb. We must accept that some of the claims made by the late Mohammed Yusuf, over a decade ago, and now Nnamdi Kalu, on the air waves, have merits, including the alienation of their people, a fact which is very obvious to any discerning person. Yet, the general thrust of Radio Biafra’s mono cast is more emotive than rational. Hopefully, the new government of Muhammadu Buhari should get set to combat some of these obvious imbalances and marginalisation which underpin the restiveness. The Hutu run Radio Télévision Libre des Mille Collines (RTLMC) that heralded the 1994 Rwandan genocide should be a relevant example of how dire consequences could result if this sort of propensity for the rendition of hate, not only by Kalu but also championed by different groups across Nigeria, is left unchecked. As people with backgrounds in media studies, we need not overemphasise the power of the media and its inherent capacities to be commandeered as willing instruments for negative or positive ends. The power of the media should never be underestimated, at least not in this case. Every part of this country should be mindful of the insidious influence of divisive rhetoric within its midst and the potentials to nurture and fan the embers of schismatic discords. |

MalcoImX:since your hate for the gays was because they cannot have their own children, what about these Staight people that do not want to procreate? shouldn't you kill them too? innovation is an aspect of human civilization and So is gayism. the sooner you accept that fact the better for you. and you should read about sheriff too. |
Misternas89:Yes you should let gays be because they never trampled on your civic right. and what makes you think you are better than they are? or more righteous? |
Darling Ishilove, I appreciate what you are doing on this forum. I really do. What I do not understand is Why you had to close my thread on the recent American gay judgement. https://www.nairaland.com/2416306/defence-american-nigerian-gay-right I was not advocating for gayism, God forbid. I merely stated that we should the enormous challenges facing us and let gays be. you really should open up that discussion. |
MalcoImX:Really? If you Don't know, many straight people these days decide not to have children. Will you kill them? He made those innovations because he was happy with who he is.....He didn't condemn himself. I bet you, If he were a Nigerian, with all the discrimination, he just might have commited suicide. |
Before anything, I would like to say that homosexuality is as low as it can get.....and I am as straight as a needle (mizmicoly can attest to that). And that is the exact point. Nobody says homosexuality is normal. It's a personality and even biological defect and gays need our love...not our condemnation. I bet you If they had the right to choose, they wouldn't have choosen that path. homosexuality is a sin just like fornication, adultery, According to Romans 1 1:29 Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers, 1:30 Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, 1:31 Without understanding, covenantbreakers, WITHOUT NATURAL AFFECTION , implacable, unmerciful: Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them. So If you are a fornicator, you are not better than a homosexual in the eye of God. You have no moral right to condemn a gay. The world we live in today thrives on personal freedoms. And it's high Time we Africans come to that realization. They used to say that smoking was not our culture, now weed sells faster in Africa than any region. They said skimpy clothes was not our culture, our girls are now walking around naked! They said we can't bare our nudity , now naija porn videos and naked leakes are coming out every second. Our cultures our revolving along with the rest of the world.... and there's nothing we can do about it. The world is a global village. I think everyone should be accepted for what and for who they are, as long as they do not violate our basic civic rights. Homosexuality is bad, as So is adultery and fornication. So just as you tolerate the fornicator, tolerate the gays too. |
MalcoImX:If oracle CEO was killed because he is guy, you will not have your iPhone that you are using to type now. |
Over the weekend, rumours of the relocation of 47 Boko Haram suspects to Ekwulobia Prisons in Anambra, resulted in mass protests by traders and youths. While Governor Willie Obiano, is said to have gone to Abuja to meet President Buhari over the matter, Vanguard reports[1] that the 47 insurgents were sneaked into the prison in the middle of the night of Sunday, June 28. The report further stated that those whose relations are serving sentences in the Ekwulobia prison have been frantic and worried over the matter. They said the relocation of the Boko Haram prisoners would put their relations there at great risk. Want More Revealing News? The Incorporated Trustees of Advocacy for Societal Rights Advancement and Development Initiative (ASRADI) has accused President Muhammadu Buhari of evading service of the process it filed against him at the Federal High Court in Abuja to stop the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Mahmud Mohammed from swearing in as president. Buhari, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the Chief Justice of Nigeria are listed as the 1st, 2nd and 3rd respondents respectively. Counsel to the group, Mr. Philips Ekpo, said Mr. Lateef Fagbemi (SAN) who had earlier filed a memorandum of appearance at the ex-parte hearing (when he was not supposed to be present) not only rejected service at his chamber, but also failed to appear when the case came up last week. He said the Chief Justice of Nigeria did not appear and was not represented even though he was duly served with the court process. He said that service on Buhari was rejected at Aso Villa gate. At the last hearing last Wednesday, one Chima Okereke appeared for Buhari but rejected service of the process in court. INEC was represented in court by Abdulaziz Sani. At the last hearing, the trial judge, Justice Ahmed Mohammed, suggested July 3 for hearing but Okereke said he would not be available until after the vacation. The judge, therefore, adjourned the matter to October 13. In the suit, the group said Buhari did not meet the qualification enshrined in the 1999 Constitution and the Electoral Act to have contested for the position of the president of Nigeria in the 2015 general election. Some of the plaintiff’s prayers have been overtaken by events such an order of interim injunction restraining the CJN or any person acting in his capacity from swearing in the Buhari as President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria on May 29, 2015 or any other date thereof pending the determination of the motion on notice. The group said it relied on the following grounds in making the application: “(a.)The 1st respondent (Buhari) gave false information in the affidavit he presented to the 2ndRespondent and on the strength of which he contested and purportedly won the presidential election which was conducted by the 2nd respondent (INEC) on March 28, 2015. “(b.) The 1st respondent deposed to an affidavit dated November 24, 2014 that his West African School Leaving Certificate is in the custody of the Secretary to the Military Board “(c.)The Nigerian Army on January 20, 2015, said that in the personal file of the 1stRespondent with the Nigerian Army, they do not have the original copy of his West African School Leaving Certificate (WASC) nor does the Nigerian Army have the Certified True Copy of his WASC results neither do they have a photocopy of the said result. “(d.) The 1st respondent has not met the qualifications enshrined in the 1999 Constitution and the Electoral Act, Cap E6, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2010 (as amended) to have contested the position of President of Nigeria at the 2015 general election.” “e.” That the authority conferred by Section 140 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) on the 3rd respondent to administer oath of office to any person who will occupy the office of the President of Nigeria cannot be exercised in respect of the 1st respondent who has not fulfilled the requirements of the same Constitution and the Electoral Act as they relate to his eligibility to occupy the office of President of Nigeria.” In the originating summons attached to the suit, the group asked the court to declare that: the information contained in the Buhari’s Form C.F.001 stating that his educational qualification is the West African School Leaving Certificate (WASC) and that same is with the Secretary to the military board amounts to false information. It also asked the court to hold that the information contained in the Buhari’s affidavit deposed to on November 24, 2014 stating that his WASC is with the Secretary to the Military Board amounts to false information. He also asked for the following declarations: “A declaration that the 3rddefendant is estopped from swearing in the 1st defendant as President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, as the issue of perjury involving the 1st defendant has not been resolved. “An order restraining the 3rd defendant or any person appointed for such purpose from swearing in the 1stdefendant as President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria on May 29, 2015 or any future dates whatsoever forgiving false information to the 2nd respondent on oath. “An order annulling the certificate of return given to the 1st defendant by the 2nddefendant.” The case was filed yesterday and is yet to be assigned to any judge. Barring any last minute extension by the Bankers’ Committee of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Deposit Money Banks will on Wednesday start to deny about 14.6 million customers from enjoying banking services over their failure to obtain Bank Verification Numbers. The BVN project, which commenced in February 2014, will officially close on Tuesday, June 30, 2015. The Bankers’ Committee, which comprises of the CBN, bank CEOs and a few other stakeholders, had given June 30, 2015 as the deadline for the customers to do their biometric registration and obtain their BVNs. However, as of June 11, 2015, the committee said only 14 million customers had been registered under the BVN project. Going by the current statistics from the Enhancing Financial Innovation and Access, an organisation committed to deepening financial inclusion in Nigeria, only about 28.6 million adults in the country have bank accounts. This means that at least 14 million bank customers have yet to do their biometric registration and get their BVNs. The BVN project will help the banks to identify their customers through their fingerprints. Each bank customer’s fingerprint is linked to their unique number. It is meant to help check fraud in the banking system, boost retail or consumer credit, and also enhance economic growth. The Managing Director, United Bank for Africa Plc, Mr. Phillips Oduoza, who spoke after the Bankers’ Committee meeting in Abuja about three weeks ago, confirmed that only about 12.5 million bank customers had been registered since the exercise began. While calling on those who had yet to register for the BVN to do so before the expiration of the June 30 deadline, he declared that customers who failed to do so would not be able to enjoy banking services. Oduoza had said, “We also discussed the electronic banking space. In the area of BVN, we have done 12.5 million customers and this is a substantial mileage. There is still a need to close the gap before the deadline of June 30 and any customer that hasn’t done so will not enjoy banking services. “So, we are urging customers to enrol so that they will continue to enjoy unhindered banking services.” He added that by the end of this month, those that had yet to get their BVNs would not be able to have access to credit, enjoy foreign exchange and conduct Internet banking services. The Managing Director, Nigeria Interbank Settlement System Plc, the organisation driving the biometric registration process, Mr. Ade Shonubi, had a few weeks ago said it was unlikely that the Bankers’ Committee would extend the deadline. As of the time filing this report on Sunday, it is unclear if customers who failed to register by Wednesday would be allowed to do so and gain access to their accounts or whether the Bankers’ Committee would allow an extension of the deadline. While there are 28.6 million bank accounts belonging to adults in Nigeria, the Electronic Payment Providers Association of Nigeria states that the number of bank account holders (made up of both individuals, including children, and organisations) has reached 76 million out of a population of 170 million people. A new World Bank report states that Nigeria, like many countries in sub-Saharan Africa, has a growing population who are excluded from the financial services compared to their counterparts abroad. The Ekiti State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party has alleged that the immediate past government of the All Progressives Congress in the state shared N2.6 billion meant for the building of classrooms for secondary schools in the state among its members. The party reiterated its call to anti-corruption agencies to investigate the wanton looting of the state treasury by the immediate past APC government. It disclosed that no fewer than five petitions are with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and the Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission against former Governor Kayode Fayemi and other top functionaries of the APC, who ran the government with him. A statement by the state Publicity Secretary of PDP, Jackson Adebayo, said the APC government transferred the federal grants for the building of blocks of classrooms in secondary schools in the state to the party in an apparent motive to shortchange the state. Adebayo explained that N3 billion was made available for the state government to build blocks of classrooms for all the secondary schools in the state by the former Dr. Goodluck Jonathan-led PDP government at the federal level. While challenging the APC to come out with the details of how the projects were executed, Adebayo maintained that no building was ever put in place throughout the four year the APC was in government of Ekiti State. He explained that instead of building classrooms as stipulated by the Federal Government, Fayemi decided to renovate the existing blocks at the cost of building new ones in other to perfect the diversion of the funds meant for the project to the party for sharing among members at different levels in the state. According to him, at the close of works on the projects, the APC was able to raised about N3 billion from the Federal Government Education intervention fund for sharing among its members. Adebayo said: “We challenge the leadership of APC in the state to clear air on the details of the project so as to afford the people of the opportunity to judge between the truth and perpetual falsehood.” The PDP spokesman explained that majority of the members of the party who shared from the money did not know the source of the money until Fayemi left government and some members started fighting over the left over. Meanwhile, the Ekiti State government has reacted to claim by the APC that Governor Ayodele Fayose was planning to commercialise basic education in the state, saying: “APC government of Dr Kayode Fayemi killed education in the State and the Fayose-led Peoples Democratic Party government is trying all that it could to restore the lost glory of the State in the education sector.” The Special Assistant to the governor on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka, in a statement on Sunday refuted the APC’s claim, emphasizing that the government had no plan to commercialise basic education in the state. The government said it was insulting for the APC to have made reference to the late sage, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, saying: “The APC does not stand for one single ideal of Awolowo. Or would Awolowo have scrapped functional universities in preference for N3.3bn hilltop governor’s lodge as done by the APC government of Fayemi?” The statement reads in part: “The 1999 constitution of Nigeria guarantees Free Universal Basic Education from primary school to JSS 3. That is a law that no government can contravene. “However, does the APC as a party have moral rights to speak on education? “Here is a party, whose government scrapped universities under the excuse that the State could not fund more than one university, but the same government could use borrowed funds to build N3.3bn governor’s lodge, civic centre, state pavilion and other irrelevant projects. “Shouldn’t these characters in the APC be ashamed for once, show remorse for destroying the economy of Ekiti State and stop this persistent advertisement of their idiocy?” Want to discuss more breaking news?
