Suicide mission latest Why stowaway died – Experts •Delta Airlines speak By UCHE USIM Saturday, April 24, 2010 • Photo: The Sun Publishing Living index Aviation experts have described the recent incident involving the late Emeka Okechukwu Okeke, as reported by Saturday Sun lat Saturday, who committed suicide in his desperate attempt to enter the United States via the nosewheel compartment of Delta Air’s B777, as the handiwork of crooks who might have dispossessed the ignorant man of all his worth and thereafter lured him to death. As a result of the incident, a high level investigation is ongoing to ascertain how the stowaway and his cohorts were able to beat the heightened airport security to gain access to the airplane on the tarmac. Delta Air’s B777 airplane, Saturday Sun learnt, is fortified with extra security personnel due to the recent security threats in Nigeria. A source from the airline, who spoke with Saturday Sun on phone, said the police are investigating the matter at a very high level. “The matter is under investigation and we cannot say much on it. The more you talk about the matter, the more it may scorch the investigation. It’s a security matter and we have to treat it carefully,” the Delta Airline source stated. In analysing the incident, experts say the temperature in the nosewheel, also known as the main landing gear is extremely cold (minus 58 degrees) during flight such that it is almost impossible to survive there for up to 12 hours, which is the average duration of Lagos-Atlanta flight. Though the stowaway was said to be well kitted with thick sweaters, in addition to a blanket, analysts still insist that the discomfort in that area is killing and most times the victims die of hyperthermia. The coldness apart, the area is not climate controlled or pressurized and it also takes well grounded aircraft engineers and dispatchers to know the depth of the nosewheel’s well (where the main landing gear retracts into) to ascertain where it can accommodate the stowaway or not. More so, stowaways hardly survive and they risk being crushed by the gear or bay doors if the bay is not large enough for the stowaway. They can also fall off the strut, especially when it is extended after takeoff or before touchdown. This is often exacerbated by the force of the wind. Stowaways also risk falling out of the bay should the doors open unexpectedly. This can be caused if the door mechanism cannot support the weight of the stowaway. Also, the stowaway may be asleep or unconscious when the gear is lowered for landing. Some other analysts also explain that for the deadly operation to be somewhat successful, the engineers will know the precise location the stowaway will be in the nosewheel well, the precise angle he must position himself, regardless of the discomfort. More so, it must be predetermined whether that area will have oxygen or not to avoid suffocation. All these equations must be balanced before placing the illegal “traveller” in the main landing gear compartment as any miscalculation means the man will be automatically crushed when the nosewheel is retracting after takeoff. In the case of Okeke, analysts believe the collaborators were mere ramp/tarmac workers who are not aircraft engineers. The position is buttressed by that fact that Okeke, who allegedly departed Lagos alive, arrived the USA as a lifeless being with his remains mangled. According to a seasoned B747-400 pilot and former Operations Director of defunct Nigeria Airways Limited (NAL), Capt Dele Ore, stowaways usually hide in electronic bay, a spacious but sensitive section of the airplane. Ore said the temperature in that area is conducive for humans, stressing that most of the stowaways hid there hours before boarding. “Stowaways usually hide in the areas we call the electronic bay. They gain access to that place at times via the nosewheel compartment. That usually happens some hours before pre-boarding internal and external checks. The checks hardly extend to the electronic bay. It’s usually external since they just look into the landing gear well and other external sections. Stowaways also get in when the airplane is parked remotely, especially when the terminal is congested. So while at the remote parking, the stowaway is sneaked before the airplane is positioned for boarding,” he said. Describing the action as bad, Ore said most people have lost their lives in a bid to hide in the nosewheel compartment. Also commenting on the incident, Olumide Ohunayo, an aviation analyst and former President of National Cabin Crew Association of Nigeria (NACCAN), said his collaborators are within the tarmac and the security personnel, stressing that they were ignorant of the workings of the airplane. “Stowaways are usually people who are ignorant of the technology and the conditions in the plane, and they tend to be pretty desperate to achieve their self desires. If a stowaway can get into the aircraft, whenever that occurred, that says a lot about security procedures of that airport and airline; also the tarmac area and the maintenance inspection procedures. With recent heightened security, a stowaway simply tells us that if you can do it with a body, you could do it with an explosive. Pilot and other personnel conduct aircraft checks for international trips as many as two hours before takeoff, raising the prospect that the stowaway climbed aboard after the landing gear was examined on the ground, therefore, the collaborators are within the airside of the airport. The stowaways are completely ignorant of the risk being taken, because temperatures in wheel-wells during short flights may sustain life, on Long flights that lead to severe hypothermia and acute hypoxia which is potentially fatal,” he explained. He further said stowaways, generally pose no security threat to aircraft, but the fact that they have been able to gain access to planes means there are loopholes in security around aircraft and airport perimeters, which can be blocked. “It is generally agreed that airports and airlines are to blame for security breaches, which probably is the reason airlines are fined heavily by immigration or other government agencies for stowaways on board. The airlines are made to foot all related bills such as medical, feeding, transportation and other fines. It is not a Nigerian problem but a universal one, so our airlines operating international flights in conjunction with departing airports must overhaul their security and conduct background checks on airside employees,” he stated. For Sam Akerele, a former Airport/Airspace Manager who also doubles as an aviation consultant; whoever tells any man/woman to be a stowaway passenger in the nosewheel of an airplane is a killer. “Stowaway deals usually end in tragedy. It’s only desperate fools that choose that travelling option. And those who want to make money off the fools perpetrate it. It’s even a security risk as well because it shows porosity in the airport security network. What if the stowaway is a terrorist? He can comfortably bomb the plane mid air. Wherever it occurs, it is an indictment on any country’s national security. It’s a thing government must carefully look into,” he said. Unauthorized passengers have been known to stowaway on larger aircraft by climbing a landing gear strut and riding within the compartment. Stowaway incidents are not new in aviation, in February, a man suspected to be Japanese mechanic was found dead in the nosewheel compartment of Delta Air B777 airplane. Another man was also found dead in Tokyo Airport on arrival from the US. He was actually frozen to death. However, on October 12, 2007 , a Palestine stowaway was lucky as he survived a 55-minute SIA flight on B777-200 airplane. No formal report to the Police The Delta Air’s incident, according to the Commissioner of Police, Airport Police Command, Danazumi Doma, was not reported to the command formally by the airline’s management. “What you have been asking me for days now is new. There’s no formal report from the airline and as such we cannot say we’re investigating it. I don’t have the contact to the man’s family as you’re requesting. Nothing on it at all. I believe the airline should write to us on such an issue,” he said. Security implication Analysts say the security apparatus at the MMIA must be urgently overhauled if sustainable success is to be achieved. They also say that a man who successfully sneaks into an airplane can equally wreak havoc undetected by planting explosives inside the airplane or the airport building. Already, there are speculations that a certain syndicate operate in the airport as protocol officers and assist some highly placed individuals in smuggling prohibited items on board the plane. They are also said to work for individuals who can afford their charges. |
Pastor Saved Me From Spiritual Attacks, Claims Paul Play April 23, 2010 14:00 (4 hours ago), 489 views By Bayo Adetu Multiple award winning producer and singer, Paul Babatunde Dairo, popularly known as Paul Play, has described the illness that almost took his life last year in South Africa as a spiritual attack, saying that it took the intervention of a Pastor, Ireti Ajanaku for him to be totally healed. Paul Play, who was admitted at the Intensive Care Unit of a South African hospital after going through a surgery, said his ordeal in the hospital was beyond human reasoning. Hear him: “My ordeal in the hospital in South Africa was beyond human reasoning. I received calls from many men of God who prayed for me while I was at the intensive care unit. Among them were Pastor Glen Botu [Potters House], Prophet Oladipo Jinadu, Pastor Iyanda, Pastor Oyedele, Prophet Imisi and many others. God delivered me through the jaws of death. After the surgery, I witnessed many inexplicable revelations. But God lifted me up.” Paul stated further that few weeks after his return from South Africa, he started having some funny dreams after which his health situation took another turn for the worse. “I was in a restaurant in Ikoyi when the health crisis struck again. I felt like passing out. I was rushed to one hospital close to the area and after series of tests, the doctor said I was fine. I called my doctor in SA and he said I needed not to worry because my kidney was okay. But I knew something was not right because I was feeling unusual pains in the left part of my stomach. “All this while, I was having horrible nightmares which are almost real… I didn’t tell my wife about the crisis because I knew she would panic and make the situation worse, so I kept praying to God because I knew I was not totally healed,” he said. P.M. NEWS gathered that during this period, the musician had checked into the hospital three times and had come out with a clean bill of health. But according to him, “one morning, I started feeling like I was going to die and my blood pressure had gone up. At that moment, I got a call from a journalist friend who told me that one Pastor Ajanaku said he has to see me… I didn’t know this man of God so I was a bit reluctant to go and see him. But the condition got worse and I quickly made all arrangements to see him. “I was feeble and weak the day I saw him. He brought out anointing oil and anointed my mouth and head three times, and prayed for about 10 seconds. I wasn’t impressed because I was expecting a lot of speaking in tongues and aggressive prayers. I went home disappointed. Meanwhile, before I left, he told me to anoint my mouth again before midnight, which I did reluctantly. “I slept and at about 3a.m, I felt my body being flushed from head to toe. I was so scared that I couldn’t open my eyes because I’ve never experienced such before. I woke up the following morning feeling as if I never had a surgery.” Comment |

Randy father jailed 7 years for raping own daughters April 22, 2010 11:01AM print email An Ikeja Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday sentenced a randy father, who raped his two daughters, to seven years imprisonment with hard labour. The Magistrate, O.A. Adedayo, ordered that Emmanuel Obott,46, be kept behind bars after finding him guilty on an eight-count charge of assault, battery, and rape. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the plea of Mr. Obott, who raped the girls aged 24 and 22, was not taken. Enraged by Mr. Obott’s offence, the magistrate called out his family members to enquire whether he had a psychiatric problem. The family members, however, said he had no such ailment. “It is the most atrocious of crime that could be meted out on one’s flesh and blood. The action of the accused will leave a psychological torture on the girls,” the magistrate said. Mr. Adedayo advised the family to take the girls to a church for counselling. The Prosecutor, Chris Takim, a police inspector, had earlier told the court that Mr. Obott, who claimed to be a clearing and forwarding agent, raped his daughters to satisfy his sexual urge. “On many occasions, he threatened to kill the two girls if they failed to give in to his amorous advances,” Mr. Takim said. He stated that the accused wilfully destroyed one of the girl’s skirt and blouse valued at N10, 000 in the process of raping her. Mr. Takim said one of the girls became pregnant for Mr. Obott, who went ahead to obtain an abortion for her, while he flogged the other girl on many occasions for refusing his sexual advances. Mr. Takim said the unsuspecting mother of the girls had packed out of the house, leaving them behind. He said the offences, which were committed on April 15 at 3, Jadesola Street, Mende, Maryland, Ikeja, contravened Sections 86, 214, 230, 249, 355, 357 and 360 (d) of the Criminal Code, Laws of Lagos State. it's spiritual and also psychological. there is some element of truth in it - if a possesion has been taken away from you without your consent, it is bound to have some kind of negative effect on you e.g. a lady who has her virginity taken away via rape - however, i'm not too sure it might result in the death of the child ![]() |
NANS Plans Anti-Babangida Protest For May 29 National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Oyo State branch, said on Tuesday that it was planning a mass protest against the presidential ambition of ex-military President Ibrahim Babangida to save the country and its nascent democracy. The association, in a statement in Ibadan by its Chairman, Yekeen Olaniyi, said the planned protest would hold on May 29. The students believe that Babangida’s plan to rule Nigeria again was ``immoral and even gravely insulting’’ to its more than 150 million citizens. ``We are determined to break the cycle of corruption and bad governance. Babangida and his contemporaries are not good for the Nigeria of the 21st century,’’ the statement said. According to NANS, the 2011 general elections are crucial to Nigeria’s future because it is the turning point to reposition the country for the 21st century. ``The Nigerian students are favourably disposed to fresh hands. What Nigeria needs is young, vibrant, incorruptible and visionary leadership come 2011,’’ the statement said. Babangida had recently at the Benin-City Airport en route Asaba, Delta State capital, confirmed that he would indeed run for the office of President in next year’s general elections. He told reporters that speculations about his presidential ambition were correct. While in Asaba, Babangida told his audience at the palace of the Asagba of Asaba, Chike Edozien, that Nigerians had the political will, economic potential and entrepreneurial capabilities to solve the country’s numerous socio-economic and political problems http://www.independentngonline.com/DailyIndependent/Article.aspx?id=12313 |

Northern group endorses Jonathan for 2011 President By FEMI ESEKU Monday, April 19, 2010 •Yerima Photo: Sun News Publishing More Stories on This Section As the first four year tenure of the presumably eight-year political dispensation of ailing president Umaru Yar’ Adua administration nears its end, politicalpumdits in the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP), are already up and doing to ensure that not only the party retains its strong hold on the political landscape of the country but to ensure that the north produces the next president to complete the second half of the regions eight years slot at the presidency. This is line with the party’s policy of rotating the position of president between the north and the south. However, in a surprising twist, a prominent northern socio-political organization, headed by Alhaji Suleiman Yerima and known as the Northern Friends of the South-South (NFSS), is calling on the Acting Nigerian President, Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan to run for president during the 2011 general elections. This call was made during a world press conference held in Lagos at the organization’s national secretariat on Thursday 15, 2010. “After watching the political atmosphere in the country for a while, and bearing in mind that the remaining tenure of the Acting presidency of Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan is very short, Northern Friends of the South-South (NFSS), have put every machinery in its disposal in place to ensure continuity in government as we earnestly urge the Acting President to run in 2011 presidential election”, Yerima said. He declared further that the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP),which he belongs to should allow the Acting president contest the next election under its platform. He explained that if the PDP refuses to allow Dr. Jonathan to run under their platform and he decides to opt for another political platform, PDP will be the loser if he wins. “We are of the opinion that if the PDP, of which I am a member decides that Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan will not run under its platform, PDP will be the loser if he eventually wins.” Yerima noted that the organization has watched in dismay how the nation, in the past couple of months has been drifting due to the political turmoil’s occasioned by the president’s ailment. He mentioned that the continued deprivation of the peoples of the oil rich Niger Delta was occasioned by the lacunae in the polity. He also noted that the prediction of the United States of America that the country would cease to exist by 2015 and recent remarks made by Libyan president, Muammar Gaddafi, for the country to be split into several entities are unnecessary and unfortunate. “As we are all witnesses, at a point in our national life, the Niger Delta crisis posed a serious threat to our continued peaceful co-existence as one indivisible country. We believe that the American prediction that Nigeria will break up in 2015 as well as the recent suggestion by the Libyan leader, Muammar Gaddafi that the country be Balkanized all stem from the Niger Delta crisis as well as recent Jos mayhem, which should not be allowed to continue. We need to realize that this country belongs to all of us and not any one particular region” he said. Speaking further, he said that the NFSS had been in the forefront in championing for the Niger Delta people. “We have always been in the forefront of agitation for the development of the region by the Nigerian government through our activities which culminated in the relative peace we now enjoy in the region” he said. When asked to explain how his organization hopes to achieve its aim at persuading and eventually succeeding in returning the present Acting President to power, when faced with formidable contenders from the north, such as the recent declarations of former military president Ibrahim Babangida, General Muhammad Buhari, Atiku Abubakhar and others, he responded thus: “We are not saying that other aspirants should not run for presidency in 2011. Our belief is that the Acting President as a citizen of Nigeria has a right to contest under the constitution and should not be barred by the PDP from running just because of its intra party zoning system.” “Good enough, the Acting president has said that there is no law stopping him from running if he chooses to do so. Zoning is not a constitutional matter. It is a political arrangement by the PDP. “We shall continue to apply pressures on both the PDP and Acting President to rise up to the challenge and opportunity to do what is right for this nation by taking up the leadership position.” He said. When asked about the position of the people in the north to his organizations aspirations, Alhaji Suleiman Yerima said that he had just concluded an extensive tour of major northern states such as, Adamawa, Taraba, Benue, Nasarawa, Kaduna, Katsina, Sokoto, Zamfara and Kebbi states. He said the trip was successful and many people agreed with the points being canvassed by his group. http://www.sunnewsonline.com/webpages/news/abujareports/2010/apr/19/abujareports-19-04-2010-003.htm |
FERGUSON OUT, MOURINHO IN ABOVE: Sir Alex Ferguson will leave Manchester United at the end of next season 19th April 2010 By Bill ThorntonYour Shout ( 0 ) SIR Alex Ferguson will quit Manchester United at the end of next season – and Jose Mourinho will succeed him. Ferguson aims to complete an unprecedented 25 seasons in charge at Old Trafford before calling time on the most successful managerial career in history. By then, the man who took over in November 1986, hopes to have steered United to a record number of title wins and, hopefully, a third Champions League success. Starsport understands United have already lined up the charismatic Mourinho, currently in charge of Inter Milan. Ferguson, who will be 69 on December 31, has been involved in discussions about his successor for the past few years. Mourinho, who recently talked about his love-hate relationship with Italian football, earmarked himself as a potential successor to the remarkable Ferguson six years ago when his Porto team knocked United out of the Champions League at Old Trafford – and went on to lift the trophy. Mourinho then took over at Chelsea and, for two years, dented United’s domination of the Premier League. He is desperate to return to England – and the United job is the one he wants most of all. Ferguson has delivered an amazing 11 Premier titles to Old Trafford and, after the weekend’s results, is poised to make it 12. That would mean a record 19 Championships for the club, a milestone many people thought would signal Ferguson’s retirement. But he has no intention of stepping aside yet. Ferguson’s retirement has been a closely-guarded secret ever since he did a dramatic U-turn in 2002. Since then, Ferguson has led the club to a second Champions League success and four league titles. Now, just one point behind Chelsea after Saturday’s results, United are poised to claim yet another Premier League crown. And, still, Ferguson will want more. The man who moved from Aberdeen to transform United from sleeping giant into the most successful club in the country is an almost impossible act to follow. United have decided Mourinho is the man to give it a go http://www.dailystar.co.uk/football/view/131436/ALEX-FERGUSON-OUT-JOSE-MOURINHO-IN/ |

2011: Jonathan gets US, Western powers’ nod -PDP Govs also | Print | E-mail Written by Taiwo Adisa, Abuja and Jackson Udom IT has emerged that some powerful Western countries, some top Nigerian politicians, members of the Nigerian Governors’ Forum and Senators are behind a bid to ensure that Acting President Goodluck Jonathan run for the presidency in 2011. According to sources over the weekend, those behind the plan see it as the surest way of returning power to the North after 2015. It was gathered that the powers behind the fresh plot are of the view that the reality on ground has completely justified the attempts to draft Jonathan into the 2011 race. Sources said that the declaration by the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Prince Vincent Ogbulafor, that power should remain in the North in 2011 has been subjected to serious scrutiny in view of recent developments. It was gathered that the declaration remains unacceptable to a number of stakeholders in the party who are of the view that retaining power in the North in 2011 will only prolong the hold of the North on power, adding that whereas power was supposed to remain in each zone for eight years, retaining power in the North beyond 2011 now will only mean that the zone will remain in office till 2019. It was gathered that Western powers have also expressed their confidence in Jonathan as far back as December 2009. Sources said that as soon as it became clear to the United States and some Western countries that ailing President Umaru Yar’Adua may not fully recover to take power, the countries made representation to Jonathan and other stakeholders in Nigeria to take over power. Shortly afterwards, it was gathered that the United States especially started developing the feeling that Jonathan could be the best way to guarantee power equality and extinguish the restiveness in the Niger Delta. Sources said that the decision by the United States authorities to invite Jonathan as part of the just concluded Nuclear Summit was another avenue to assess the Nigerian Acting President. It was gathered that Western countries have found Jonathan a good customer who can rebuild Nigeria within the shortest possible time. Sources confirmed that while Jonathan would have to weigh his chances within the shortest time, the West and his other supporters have made up their minds on him. A source in the PDP said that Jonathan appears to have no other choice than to contest the 2011 election. The source said that his choice is the only logical thing for now adding that the alternative will prolong power in the North and short-change other parts of the country. “If we agree that Yar’Adua has spent close to three years, that is part of the tenure of the North West. If we bring in another northerner, what will stop that person from contesting for two terms of office as stated by the constitution? The best thing we can do is to ensure that Jonathan contests in 2011 such that by 2015 he will hand over to the North. If he is sworn in this year as substantive President, he can only contest election in 2011 and he will not be eligible to contest again. That would easily return power to the North in 2015,” the source said. It was also gathered that members of the Governors’ Forum are also thinking along this line as many of them after already thinking of how to tackle the challenge of the former military President Ibrahim Babangida and others. “I assure you that we will tackle IBB when the time comes. His liabilities are pronounced,” the source said. Meanwhile, support base for Acting President Goodluck Jonathan to contest the 2011 presidential election on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has continued to swell, with indications that governors on the platform of the party are now rooting for his candidacy. Sunday Tribune reliably gathered from a competent source in the Governor’s Forum that “media reports that some of us are lining behind former military President Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida for the 2011 presidential election is far from the truth.” According to the source, who spoke exclusively with Sunday Tribune, but declined to say that he was speaking the minds of his colleagues in the PDP “we are totally in support of the acting president running in 2011 because that is the surest way to ensure stability in the polity.” When reminded of the fact that the PDP arrangement favoured the presidency being retained in the North for eight years, the outspoken governor from the Southern part of Nigeria said, “are you telling me that zoning arrangement supersedes the nation’s constitution or the peace and continued existence of this country? “The current political reality and necessity outweighs whatever zoning arrangement the PDP had. We are talking about moving the country forward and you are talking about zoning arrangement.” He stated further that “the only way to guarantee the unity of this country is to allow the acting president to continue till 2015 after which he would be asked to leave for the North to have their fresh eight years term.” “Don’t forget that the South South people have been clamouring for the presidency for God knows when now. This is an opportunity for them to achieve that desire. If we deny them that opportunity now that they have already tasted power albeit in acting capacity, we would be toying with the peace and unity of this country,” he noted. He disclosed further that “if we want a lasting peace in the Niger Delta this is the right time to do that, and we can only demonstrate that by allowing the acting president to continue till 2015, if not, the Movement for the Emancipation of Niger-Delta (MEND) and other militant groups will plunge this country into an unimaginable crisis that would be difficult to manage. Meanwhile, there are strong indications that the days of Prince Vincent Ogbulafor as the National Chairman of the PDP are numbered, as some governors and major stakeholders in the party have concluded plans to edge him out of office at the next NEC meeting of the party. Impeccable sources in the party, told SundayTribune that, “Ogbulafor became the chairman of our party through the support of the governors. He was not in the picture at all. We made him to understand that he was in that office with the support of the governors and would be shown the way out any moment he was seen to be working against the interest of any of the governors.” It was also gathered that, opposition against the continued stay of Prince Ogbulafor is increasing everyday among the governors and they have also come to the conclusion that he must be removed as soon as possible. Sources told Sunday Tribune that “he is now running from pillar to pole to save his job, but I can assure you that the game is up and he must go. His frequent visits to Aso Rock to solicit the support of the acting president cannot save him. He now visits Aso Rock on the pretext that he was consulting and briefing the acting president on happenings in the party as an attempt to curry the favour of the acting president, which is now a tall dream.” http://tribune.com.ng/sun/index.php/front-page-articles/863-2011-jonathan-gets-us-western-powers-nod-pdp-govs-also.html |
the answer is no! the bible says 'old things are passed away. All things have become new" 2 Corinthians 5:17 |
The General Overseer of the Evangelical Bible Outreach Prayer Ministry International, Prophet Isa El-Buba, has implored Nigerians not to bother themselves about the political aspiration of former military president, General Ibrahim Babangida, saying that the hand of God was not upon him and could never rule Nigeria again. Speaking with newsmen in Jos, Prophet El-Buba said Babangida was simply dissipating his energy and resources in vain, adding that those whom God had not chosen could not force themselves on Nigerians, as leaders, otherwise they would incur the wrath of God. The general overseer stated that all the hardship being experienced in the country currently started as a result of his bad style of leadership, induced by high level corruption. Said he: “The pains of Nigerians originated from Babangida through his bad economic policies. He messed up the country and institutionalised corruption. If he cannot change the phase of the country as military president with such an enormous power, there is nothing he can do in this present situation.” “The most important thing is that God has rejected him; the hand of God is not upon him as far as 2011 presidential election is concern. He is simply dissipating his energy and resources in vain,” he said. Prophet El-Buba said the circumstances surrounding the emergence of Dr. Goodluck Jonathan as the acting president of Nigeria depicted that the hand of God was upon him and advised him to steer the affairs of the nation in line with the desire of the common people, adding that his commitment to pursue energy and electoral reforms was a welcome development. According to him, his name would go down in history, if he can show full and total commitment to the sectors as one of the great leaders of Nigeria. He added added that to achieve this, the acting president must shut his ears to those parading themselves as godfathers. The clergyman condemned those clamouring for power to remain in the North, adding that the era where the North thought it could go it all alone as far as leadership of Nigeria was concern was over. He scaid what the nation needed now was a leader that could address the myriad of problems confronting the country. “We the North should not think we have the monopoly of power, we cannot do it alone. It is high time we put aside the mentality that the vote of the North can make any candidate become the president of this great nation. “All what we need as a nation is a good leader no matter where he comes from, a leader who can pursue the need of the common man,” he said http://www.tribune.com.ng/sat/index.php/front-page-articles/888-prove-that-im-a-thief-ibb-dares-nigerians-lists-2011-winning-strategies-hes-wasting-his-time-prophet.html |
Print version Man Dies During Sex Romp With Prostitute April 16, 2010 14:17 (7 hours ago), 1,669 views By Emma Una/ Calabar A middle aged man, Paul Okon Nkanu, who reportedly patronised a prostitute in the popular sex for sale spot in Calabar, has eventually had his last sex as he has died in the act. Nkanu, who hailed from Biase Local Government Area of Cross River State, reportedly died atop the prostitute, after allegedly engaging himself in an all-night marathon sex with the call girl. The corpse of the young man is now at the morgue of the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital for autopsy. Although efforts to speak to the affected prostitute did not yield much result, some of her colleagues (prostitutes) and other residents around the area, including Miss Emeh Inyang, said the lady confided in them that the man allegedly died after the tenth round of sex, as he was said to be into the eleventh round when he suddenly slumped and died. According to available information, Nkanu reportedly passed on at about two hours to sunrise on the fateful day. Following the incident, most of the prostitutes in the area fled their duty posts for fear of arrest by security agents. Quoting the prostitute on whose laps Nkanu died, some of her colleagues in the brothel said Nkanu was a regular visitor to the brothel till the fateful night when the tragic incident occurred. Narrating the story to our correspondent, Miss Inyang said the affected commercial sex worker allegedly confessed that Paul started the marathon ’sexercise’ at about 9 p.m. on the fateful night, till the wee hours of the next morning, when he suddenly slumped. “She said the man remained on top of her and she had to push him off and then started to scream. When we came to find out what the problem was, the door was locked and we had to force it open. And when we entered, we saw the man on the floor stone dead,” Miss Inyang said. At press time, it was gathered that no arrest had been made, as owners of the brothel were still making plans on how to take the matter to the police for investigation. Sympathisers described the incident as unfortunate, saying they were shocked to see the man who had often visited the brothel, die in such a circumstance. http://thepmnews.com/2010/04/16/man-dies-during-sex-romp-with-prostitute |
Print version 2011: I’m Sure Of Winning —IBB April 16, 2010 15:03 (6 hours ago), 1,359 views By Simon Ateba Former military dictator, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida, aka IBB, said this morning that he would win next year’s presidential election. He said that he had the experience to turn Nigeria’s economy around. “I believe that it is possible and I have the experience to make it possible,” IBB told journalists at the presidential lounge of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos. The ‘evil genius’, as he is also called, said those who are criticising or opposing him do not really know him. “Perception is the way you look at things. If you call me a thief and you can prove it, you know what to do,” he said. IBB said winning an election takes two things, which he thinks he has: the political party and the people. Babangida announced on Monday his ambition to return to the office he left hurriedly on 26 August, 1993 after series of protests resulting from the annulment of the 12 June, 1993 presidential election won by business mogul and IBB’s good friend, Bashorun MKO Abiola. Babangida, who ruled from August 1985 to 26 August, 1993, told the British Broadcasting Corporation, BBC, in an interview on Tuesday that he was ready to contest the presidency in 2011 on the platform of any of the existing 51 political parties. http://thepmnews.com/2010/04/16/2011-i%e2%80%99m-sure-of-winning-%e2%80%94ibb |
Print version Ghaddafi Is Ignorant — Shekarau April 15, 2010 15:48 (4 hours ago), 175 views Governor Ibrahim Shekarau of Kano on Wednesday in Cardiff, United Kingdom, described the Libyan leader, Mohammar Ghaddafi, as an ignorant person. Fielding questions at a lecture he delivered on ‘Islam and the West: Misconception or Misrepresentation,’ at the Cardiff University, Shekarau said the suggestion made by the Libyan leader that Nigeria be divided along religious lines should be taken as the view of “an ignorant man.” Commenting on the Jos crisis in which more than 100 persons were reportedly killed in Dogo Nahuwa, the Libyan leader said Nigeria should be divided along ethnic or religious lines for peace to reign in the country. “Ghaddafi succeeded in a total display of his ignorance on what Nigeria is and what the country stands for, because he doesn’t know that Nigerians of all faiths had been living together for centuries and had been inter-marrying for ages. “In my administration, I have Nigerians from all parts of the country, I have an Igbo man as adviser, I have an Igala man, I have a Bayelsa man and they all team up with us to develop Kano, regardless of the fact that they are not from Kano State. “What Ghadaffi said about Nigeria is rubbish, and he has been trying to get out of it, because he thought he had done some damage,” he added. The governor recalled that in the past, Kano was a volatile state but that the story was different today. “In the past, there would be trouble in other parts of Nigeria, but reprisal attacks would be recorded in Kano, but when we came into office in 2003, we institutionalised a programme of societal re-orientation and change of attitude to end all ethnic and religious problems. “This we did through opening the space for dialogue and understanding among all faiths,” he said. Answering another question, Shekarau said the cause of the crises in Jos was misconstrued by the media, particularly the western media. He said the crises in Jos were traceable to economic factors between the so-called “indigenes” and the so-called “settlers” and added that they only had religious connotations because the media painted pictures of sectarian and religious crises. “The problem is that of economy, it is a mere co-incidence that the ‘indigenes’ and the ‘settlers’ are either Muslims or Christians,” he said. He explained that in many cities where the so-called “settlers” were more successful economically than the “indigenes,” there were bound to be upheavals. He said that Kano State was known as the centre of commerce, but that a sizeable portion of the commercial activities were in the hands of traders from outside the state http://thepmnews.com/2010/04/15/ghaddafi-is-ignorant-%e2%80%94-shekarauignorant |
Print version Babangida Desperate, ‘I’ll Run Without PDP’ April 15, 2010 17:00 (2 hours ago), 986 views Former military dictator, Gen Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida is desperate to return to Aso Rock as president next year. His desperation stems from the fact that he will contest next year’s presidential election under any of the 51 political parties’ platforms in case his party, the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, fails to pick him as their standard bearer. In an interview he granted the BBC, he said even though he will not buy his way to power, he is determined to run for president for a second time even if the PDP does not select him as their candidate. According to him “what I am sure of - I can always find one party out of 51 that I can pitch my tent on,” he said. On Monday, he announced his intention to seek the nomination of the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in presidential elections due in 2011. Gen Babangida, 68, said he had the necessary experience to be president. The PDP says its presidential candidate will be from the mainly Muslim north, where Gen Babangida comes from. Speaking to the BBC’s Focus on Africa programme, Gen Babangida - known as “IBB” in Nigeria - dismissed any suggestion he might buy his way into office 17 years after leaving the top job. “You’ll be glad to know, I’m the most investigated Nigerian living today,” he said. “Perhaps after 17 years it ought to have come out by now, unless somebody is not doing his job.” Gen Babangida took power in 1985 in a bloodless coup, but was toppled from power by mass protests after he annulled elections he had organised in 1993 that were widely seen as having been won by a businessman, Moshood Abiola. The former military ruler defended his democratic credentials and said he could offer Nigerians “leadership and experience”. “I have conducted the freest and fairest - and this is attested by the international community - elections in the history of our country,” he said. “The fact that it was annulled is a different story altogether.” He pulled out of the 2007 presidential election when then-President Olusegun Obasanjo declared his support for current President Umaru Yar’Adua’s candidacy. Mr Yar’Adua, who is from northern Nigeria, has not been seen in public since November 2009 because of his ill-health and is considered unlikely to seek re-election. Acting President Goodluck Jonathan is from the south and so would not be a candidate under the PDP policy of alternating power between north and south, with each region having two terms. Opposition has continued to mount against his plan to contest the presidential election. IBRAHIM BABANGIDA’s Career: Senior officer during Nigeria’s civil war, 1967-70; Participated in three coups - becoming leader in 1985; Survived a 1990 coup attempt; Resigned presidency in 1993 after nationwide strikes and protests; Nicknamed “Maradona” for his clever political dribbling skills. He is also called ‘Evil Genius’. Comments (23) http://thepmnews.com/2010/04/15/babangida-desperate-%e2%80%98i%e2%80%99ll-run-without-pdp%e2%80%99 |
i opened a thread specifically for this. five reasons why maradona is better than pele (1) maradona single handedly won the world cup for argentina - without him there was no argentina - pele however was a star in the middle of a star studded team - his absence was never felt. (2) football was easier during pele's playing days - it was much tougher when maradona was playing. Maradona even played in Italy which is reknowned for tough defenders yet he made his mark (3) all pele's goals were either tap-ins or team goals. he never scored individual effort goals like maradona - e.g. england vs argentina 1986. (4) pele never played in a major european league like premiership or la liga. (5) pele was given so much space to operate whenever he played. Maradona never enjoyed such luxury. He was always fully marked, |

Jonathan Turns Star Attraction In USA April 14, 2010 16:58 (4 hours ago), 839 views The Acting President, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan has been receiving star attraction in the US during his first official visit outside Nigeria since he assumed power. Everywhere he goes he is accorded red carpet treatment on account of the reforms he is trying to engender in Nigeria. Jonathan’s decision to replace Yar’Adua’s cabinet with his own was received by Nigerians in America as bold and commendable which has made his popularity to soar. His decision has made his approval ratings shoot up by 80 percent. Some of the problems staring Nigeria in the face came in focus during Jonathan’s meeting with American President Barack Obama on Sunday and Monday. To arrest the drift Nigeria has experienced because of the absence of the ailing President Umaru Yar’Adua from office since 23 November, 2009, the US has called on Nigeria to ensure credible elections are conducted in January, 2011, engage in a more constructive fight against corruption and ensure power and electoral reforms. The US government advised Jonathan to scout for a new head for the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, at the expiration of Prof. Maurice Iwu’s tenure in June. The Acting President promised to ensure thorough changes in INEC before the 2011 elections, by not only replacing the chairman, so that the elections will be acceptable to the generality of the people. Similary, the US authorities also expressed concern about the situation in the Niger Delta region where about 40 percent oil exploration and 75 percent of Nigeria’s income comes from. They also expressed concern about the cotinued success of the amnesty programme of Yar’Adua. Jonathan, however, allayed their fears, saying that the militants’ amnesty arrangement was on course. He assured that his government will follow up on the amnesty programme and make it a top priority. http://thepmnews.com/2010/04/14/jonathan-turns-star-attraction-in-usa |
Star Singer, Terry G Arrested, Released April 14, 2010 16:54 (4 hours ago), 552 views By Bayo Adetu & Dedeigbo Ayodeji Music producer and singer, Gabriel Oche-Amanyi, famously known as Terry G, has been arrested by authorities of the Lagos State Police Command over his refusal to refund the money he collected from the Students’ Union Government of the University of Benin. He was arrested at about 12noon yesterday and was later released around 8pm the same day after he had signed an undertaking to pay the money latest by Tuesday, next week. The Benue State-born singer had collected the sum of N500, 000 from the Students Union Government for a show on their campus, but he did not attend the show and has subsequently refused to refund the money. While signing the undertaking at the Police Command yesterday, the ginger ur swagga crooner agreed to refund the total sum of N1.1 million to cover the performance fee he collected and the expenses of the show. He has also promised to tender an apology to all Nigerian students for his nonchalant attitude. He will also choose another date to perform for the UNIBEN students. Terry G, who had been banned from performing at any university by NANS as a result of the incident, has however been pardoned for now. Speaking with P.M.NEWS on phone this morning, the UNIBEN Students’ Union Welfare Officer, Cyril Emico, said “for now, the ban has been lifted on him because he has to do some shows in Imo State, Enugu and Calabar Universities to raise some money. He will do the shows before the 20th of this month.” When P.M.NEWS called Terry G on phone last week, his manager who spoke to us admitted that they collected the said money from the students but did not honour the show because the students failed to fulfill part of their obligations, claiming that his artiste had since refunded the money. http://thepmnews.com/2010/04/14/star-singer-terry-g-arrested-released |

April 12, 2010 18:25 (3 hours ago), 1,050 views By Kazeem Ugbodaga & Eromosele Ebhomele The Convener of Save Nigeria Group and serving overseer of the Latter Rain Assembly, Pastor Tunde Bakare has called on Nigerians to stone former military dictator, Gen. Ibrahim Babangida following his declaration to contest in next year’s presidential election. Bakare made the call yesterday during his sermon in his church in Lagos. According to him, “none of the oppressors is coming to rule this nation again. Their arrogance must be put to an end.” He described Babangida as “a clever manipulator, an arrogant megalomaniac who has refused to apologise for the annulment of the June 12, 1993 presidential election,” won by Moshood Abiola, adding that the money he stole while in power for eight years has finished that is why he is coming for more. Bakare said though IBB has a right as a Nigerian to vie for any elective office and that he has nothing against him as a person, he said the former military dictator messed up the country when he was in power and a such he does not have anything new to offer Nigerians. He said he won’t wait till 2011 before he begins the war against the oppressors who are planning to return to power, adding “let’s vote for IBB with stones. Make sure the stones have rough edges.” Also, intense opposition has continued to mount against IBB’s decision to contest the 2011 presidential election. Speaking with P.M.NEWS, constitutional lawyer, Prof. Itse Sagay described IBB’s decision as an insult on the populace, saying that it shows the contempt he has for the nation. “IBB was the man who turned corruption into an institution at a time Buhari was almost eliminating it. He scuttled our democracy by annulling the 1993 presidential poll and ushered in the Abacha era fraught with gross human rights abuse. “He should ask God for forgiveness of his soul. It will never happen for IBB to contest election in this country,” Sagay stated. Reverend Ola Makinde, Prelate, Methodist Church Nigeria denounced IBB’s intention to contest next year’s polls, saying that he had to explain several things to Nigerians, such as the death of Dele Giwa, among others. “We don’t want a religious bigot to rule. He introduced the nation to the Organisation of Islamic Countries (OIC), he has to explain to us why. We have lost so many souls and properties worth billions of naira. “He has to tell us his agenda and that he would not move to islamise the nation. He has to explain the oil windfall and others,” he said. Afenifere chieftain, Chief Reuben Fasoranti simply asked, “What does he want? He has done his two terms and annoyed Nigerians by annulling the 1993 presidential poll. He should allow new blood and new trend to come into the nation’s polity. We need someone else to come on board and not recycled product.” According to Mr. Yinka Odumakin, National Publicity Secretary, Afenifere Renewal Group, “Nigerians should be ready to fight with their soul since their votes would not be allowed to count. “ It is the tragedy of the century if IBB should be allowed to get to the ballot box, let alone running for the presidential polls. We should ensure that his intention is stillborn,” he added. Former Convener, United Action for Democracy (UAD), Comrade Bamidele Aturu said IBB is taking the people for granted by announcing his intention to vie for the presidential poll, saying that “it shows that integrity doesn’t count in this nation.” “He still has so many unanswered questions. It is sad. What about the oil windfall? What about the murder of Dele Giwa and others? The battle line has been drawn. Nigerians will have to be organised and fight or we will lose it,” he said. National President, Campaign for Democracy, Dr. Joe Okei-Odumakin described IBB’s return as the greatest insult of the century, lamenting that after the alleged atrocities committed by him, such as the murder of Dele Giwa and Kudirat Abiola and others, he still wanted to vie for the presidency. “Nigerians should brace up for the challenge ahead. For him to come back is a sign of rapid retrogression. We should be vigilant; if need be, we will go to the trenches again We should be ready to fight with the last drop of our blood in order to ensure that people like IBB will never rule this nation again,” said Okei-Odumakin. Comrade Debo Adeniran, founder, Coalition Against Corrupt Leaders warned IBB against coming back, saying that Nigerians would not allow it, adding that he bastardised the nation “and there is nothing he should come to do in government again.” Lagos lawyer, Festus Keyamo said it was time for Nigerians to mobilise against “this evil genius. This kind of opposition is not lip service. We can’t sit down in our houses and complain about IBB when we have no alternative. “We should get a candidate and rally round him to challenge IBB and the ruling party. His coming back is adding salt to injury if Nigerians allow him to contest unchallenged,” he added. According to Mr. Joe Igbokwe, Lagos State Publicity Secretary, Action Congress (AC), “IBB for president? It must be the biggest joke of the century. IBB must be the greatest dreamer of the 21st century. I have a thousand and one reasons why he cannot be the president of Nigeria again. “After the monumental disaster called Obasanjo, I do not think Nigeria would want to experiment with IBB. He has nothing to offer,” he added. Meanwhile, Bakare, has described as an abomination of the devil, the action by Bishop David Oyedepo of the Living Faith Church a.k.a. Winners Chapel after his visit with three other men of God to ailing President Umaru Yar’Adua. Pastor Bakare, who spoke at the opening ceremony of the SNG secretariat at the weekend, said if the Christian clerics who visited the ailing President were actually serving the people, they would have explained. He further declared that though the clerics were free citizens who could honour such invitation, the statement credited to Bishop Oyedepo that he owed nobody any obligation to speak about his visit to Aso Rock was arrogant. Bakare said, “what I can’t stand is the arrogance of some of them saying, “I do not owe the public any obligation”. “Common, get your brain in the right direction, you don’t speak to the public like that. You are serving people, you are not lording it over them. “When Peter went to the house of Cornelius in the Bible, he was questioned by the others and he explained to them and it became acceptable to the people that the church is supposed to be a union between the Jews and Gentiles. “You don’t talk arrogantly as if you are on the back of a horse, who are you? Who do you think you are? “If you are totally interested in God and his people, you will serve them with respect and dignity. That is too much arrogance and it is called the abomination of the devil.” Bakare said he was invited to the Villa before the other clerics, but that he gave guidelines on how the invitation should be channeled because, according to him, the actual reason for such invitation must be stated, adding that he was not a doctor who should be asked to examine the sick president. He, however, declared as inaccurate the story in a newspaper claiming that he was invited by the wife of the president, Turai. “I said I was invited, but I did not mention by who because there are certain things you hold because of your place in the country. “The Acting President cannot say everything about security because not everything is supposed to be shared. “So I said I was invited before any of them you saw went, but I gave guidelines on how it should be done. I wanted to understand the motive and what would be the outcome. “I am not a medical doctor, neither am I constitutionally empowered to carry out such investigation. Those who are constitutionally empowered to do so should go on. “Before long, the Jerusalem and Mecca of Nigeria will become Aso Villa where clerics and non clerics would perform pilgrimage, but they should not diminish the office of the president or his person with this riculousity that is going on,” he said. Asked why he had refused to declare any political intention, Pastor Bakare said: “We are building strategically, systematically and deliberately. We are not going to be in a hurry. You are not going to see me carrying any card of any party in 2011, but watch out thereafter.” The pastor also said that the SNG was formed to fight the ills of the leaders of the country especially with the way the issue of President Yar’Adua’s ailment was handled. “We have not reached uhuru yet, because this is an extension of the old and we have not seen anything drastically different from what was before,” he added He said the group was going on with actions that would help the masses find their bearing in the country, adding that there is already mobilization at the grassroots level “so that they would know that the wealth of the nation is being squandered by a group of people. “There is enough in this land for the need of everybody but we do not have enough for the greed of the few. So we would continue to unblock the minds of Nigerians.” Speaking in a similar vein, spokesperson of the group, Yinka Odumakin, said with the opening of the secretariat, the SNG has come to stay in the country. He also decried the role played by the religious leaders regarding their visit to Aso Rock. http://thepmnews.com/2010/04/12/2011-ambition-bakare-wants-ibb-stoned |
