“And my people shall know the truth and the truth shall set them free” “Will a man rob God? Yet ye have robbed me. But ye say wherein have we robbed thee? In tithes and offerings. Ye are cursed with a curse for ye have robbed me even this whole nation. Bring ye all the tithes into the store house and prove me now herewith saith the lord of hosts if I will not open the windows of heaven and pour out a blessing, that there would not be room enough to receive it.” Malachi 3 : 8 -10 The above quoted scripture is probably one of the most quoted in the bible. Unfortunately, it is being quoted out of context and used as a weapon of mass intimidation, manipulation, extortion, oppression, cajolery and outright lies and deceit by some church leaders to collect 10 per cent of the gross income of their church members who have been hoodwinked into believing that they are doing God’s will. Before I go into the details of this discourse, I want to state categorically that I am a God-loving, bible-believing Christian who has the fear of God in his heart. I am also not writing this article to undermine any church or pastor, but to let people realize the truth about tithes and remove the yoke placed by some pastors upon them. I also want to state categorically that I strongly believe in giving to the church for the sole purpose of propagating God’s work and the Christian ministry. I will continue to encourage all Christians to give their all to God as exemplified by the widow’s mite which Jesus Christ himself referred to in the bible. Now, back to Malachi 3:8-10, the first question one should ask is who was this message directed at? The answer lies in the book of Numbers 18:25-28 which states that “The Lord commanded Moses to say to the Levites, when you receive from the Israelites the tithe that the Lord gives you as your possession, you must present a tenth of it as a special contribution to the Lord. This special contribution will be considered as the equivalent of the offering which the farmer makes of new grain and wine. In this way you would also present the special contribution which belongs to the Lord from all the tithes which you receive from the Israelites. You are to give this special contribution for the Lord to Aaron the priest.” From the above, it is clear that it was the Levites that were directed to pay a tithe they collected from the Israelites to the priest who represents God and not the people of Israel. It was these Levites that were being referred to in the book of Malachi as those who rob God. A thorough study of the book of Malachi would reveal that in those days the Levites were collecting the tithe from the people of Israel and not remitting a tithe of it to the house of God, hence Malachi’s statement which is now being quoted out of context. To understand what tithe really means one would have to understand the social reasons and cultural/religious setting within which it was situated. This concept of tithes was properly explained in the bible as stated in the laws of the tithe which can be found in the books of Leviticus 27:30-34, Numbers 18:25-31 and Deuteronomy 14:22-29. Upon reading these passages one would understand what tithes really mean, but unfortunately most pastors prefer to neglect these passages that tell us the true meaning of tithes and emphasize on Malachi 3:8-10 which was directed to the Levites of that time to remit the priest’s share of the tithes they collected to him. It is worthy of note that Malachi does not even define what tithe is and how it should be paid. The definition of tithes, as practised today, was manufactured by modern day pastors to suit their purpose as it is completely in contrast with what is in the bible and it only seeks to manipulate Christians to believe that God requests 10 per cent of their gross income from them. So what is tithe and why did God request that it be paid to the Levities? The answer can be found in the following passages: Leviticus 27:30-32 which states that “one tenth of the produce of the land, whether grain or fruit belongs to the Lord. If a man wishes to buy back any of it he must pay the standard price plus an additional 20 per cent. One in every ten domestic animal belongs to the Lord. When the animals are counted, every tenth one belongs to the Lord.” And Deuteronomy 26:12 which states that “every third year give the tithe, a tenth of your crops to the Levites, the foreigners, the orphans and the widows, so that in every community they will have all they need to eat.” The above quoted passages clearly tell us what tithe is and the reason why God directed the people of Israel to pay tithes. It is very evident that it was a social arrangement for the less privileged in the Jewish society of that time. It was also meant to take care of the Levites because they had no land or property of their own (today, pastors are amongst the wealthiest property owners in Nigeria). This social arrangement is obviously not relevant to us today. It also states that every third year is the year of tithing, not the weekly/monthly tithes being extorted from church members today. Another passage illustrates the true meaning of tithes properly and also states clearly that tithe is not money. Deuteronomy 14:22-29 says: “Set aside as tithe a tenth of all that your fields produce each year then go to the one place where the Lord your God has chosen to be worshiped and there in his presence eat the tithes of your grain, wine and olive oil and first born of your cattle and sheep. Do this so that you may learn to have reverence for the Lord your God always. If the place of worship is too far from your home for you to carry there the tithe of the produce that the Lord has blessed you with, then sell your produce and take the money with you to the one place of worship, spend it on whatever you want ,beef, lamb, wine, beer and there in the presence of the lord you and your family are to eat and enjoy yourselves. Do not neglect the Levites who live in your towns for they have no property of their own. At the end of every third year, bring the tithe of all your crops and store it in your towns. This is food for the Levites since they own no property and for the orphans, foreigners and widows who live in your towns. Do this and the lord your God would bless you in everything you do.” From the above passage, it is very clear that tithe is not money and it is not the exclusive preserve of the Levites (church). It was a religious practice in those days to give reverence to God and to celebrate God in his place of worship. The Levites were only included for the main reason that they had no land of their own and that reason is not relevant in today’s society. Yet some pastors would tell you that you are cursed and would not go to heaven if you don’t give them 10 per cent of your gross income. All this hypocrisy would not have bothered me if all the money being collected was being used to propagate God’s work. But the truth as we all know today is that this money is being used to finance lavish, flamboyant and exotic lifestyle that is unbecoming of a man who truly claims to serve God, as a pastor who is expected to be meek and humble like our Lord Jesus Christ was. As a concluding part to this article, I would want to refer us to the book of Hebrews, which was written to the early Christians. This provides irrefutable proof that Christians are not meant to pay tithes as the priesthood of our Lord Jesus Christ does not require it. Hebrews 7:5, says: “And those descendants of Levites who are priests are commanded by the law to collect one tenth from the people of Israel, that is from their own countrymen even though their countrymen are also descendants of Abraham.” From this verse, we can jump to verses 11-13 which say: “It was on the basis of the Levitical priesthood that the law was given to the people of Israel. Now, if the work of the Levitical priests had been perfect there would be no need for a different kind of priest to appear, one who is in the priestly order of Melchizedek not of Aaron. For when the priesthood is changed, there also has to be a change in the law. And our Lord of whom these things are said belonged to a different tribe of Judah and Moses did not mention his tribe when he spoke of priests.” The above passage is self-explanatory and it states clearly that the practice of tithing has no place under the priestly order of our Lord Jesus Christ. In fact, the passage suggests that the collection of tithes is belittling of the priestly order of our Lord Jesus Christ. It states that it is wrong for us as Christians to receive or pay tithes and is not relevant to us as Christians because we belong to a superior priestly order. Once again, I would like to state that this article is not meant for us as Christians to revolt against the church or our pastors. It is just meant to establish the biblical truth about tithes and remove the yoke from people who labour to pay tithes–not required of them by God–while their pastors are living luxuriously. Today, many pastors see the church as their personal business and even fraudulent people are opening up churches so that they can have access to people’s tithes and use it for their personal comfort. I encourage all of us as Christians to remain vigilant and continue to serve God in truth and in faith to the glory of his holy name. Amen. Another point of note is: how come out of the 613 biblical laws of Moses which were handed out to the people of Israel, it is only an adulterated version of the law of tithe that is still being practiced today, apart from the Ten Commandments? How come we are no longer required to offer burnt sacrifices? How come we no longer stone people to death for sinning? The truth is that only tithing was dug out of the laws of Moses because it presents material benefits to the collectors of tithes. Given that most Christians do not study their bibles and depend on their priests to guide them through, it was easy for pastors to pick a passage in the bible (Malachi 3 : 8-10), quote it out of context and use it to manipulate the flock into parting with 10 per cent of their income. Furthermore, it is worthy of note that neither Jesus Christ nor any of the apostles ever preached about or collected tithe. In fact, in the bible, Jesus Christ only spoke about tithes in Luke 11:42 which states that: “But woe unto you Pharisees! For ye tithe mint and rue all manner of herbs, and pass over judgment and the love of God: these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone.” Here we can see that Jesus Christ is rebuking the Pharisees for laying emphasis on tithes instead of the more important things of the spirit, like our pastors are doing today. In Acts 15, we find outlined what the apostles all agreed was necessary for the newly converted Gentiles to practise, and by inspiration of the Holy Spirit of God, tithing is conspicuously missing. Yet, what is one of the very first legislated duties taught to Gentile converts by the Church today? It is that they must tithe their annual salaries to the Church. Where did this unscriptural law of Christian tithing come from? Notice this telling bit of history from the Encyclopaedia Britannica (1963, volume 22, page 253, ‘TITHES’). “Tithes in Christendom—The earliest authentic example of anything like a law of the State enforcing payment appears to occur in the capitularies [Ecclesiastes] of Charlemagne at the end of the 8th or beginning of the 9th century. Tithes were, by that enactment, to be applied to the maintenance of the bishop, clergy, the poor, and the fabric of the church. In the course of time the principle of payment of tithes was extended far beyond its original intention. Thus, they became transferable to laymen and saleable like ordinary property, despite the injunctions of the third Lateran Council; and they became payable out of sources of income [not just farming and herding, but other trades and occupations and salaries paid in the form of money] not originally tithable.” The Catholic Church knows its own history. Here is how tithing got back into the Church after being absent for nearly five centuries: “As the Church expanded and various institutions arose, it became necessary to make laws which would insure the proper and permanent support of the clergy. The payment of tithes was adopted from the Old Law… The earliest positive legislation on the subject seems to be contained in the letter of the bishops assembled at Tours in 567 and the [canons] of the Council of Macon in 585.”—The Catholic Encyclopaedia. They “extended” their base of tithe collecting to eventually include all forms of income. All Christian scholars know that although money was in wide use in ancient Israel, it was never a titheable commodity. But modern pastors don’t want tithes of goats or oil or corn, they want money–cold, hard cash! God has a word to the “shepherds of the sheep”, and it is the very same message that He had for the Levites in the book of Malachi. And it is this: “My people have been lost sheep, their shepherds have caused them to go astray” (Jer. 50:6). Were Israelites aware that they were being led astray by their spiritual leaders? Not most, and neither are Christians today aware that they are being led astray by their spiritual leaders. |

Ayotade Olufunmilola Morohunmubo is a well-endowed lady. Her fair-complexioned skin glitters. The set of her sparkling white teeth and smile could melt a man’s heart. She is slim with intimidating height. Unfortunately for the 33-year -old Yaba College of Technology –trained accountant, all these attributes were used and abused when she practised lesbianism for 25years. She confessed: “I had been in the wilderness suffering through the practice of lesbianism until I found Jesus’’. Narrating how she started, she said: ‘’I was taken to England when I was very small. We later relocated to Nigeria. My mother was a banker while my father, now late, worked in Nigerian Textile Mill. I went to a primary school where they started calling me Oyinbo pepper because of the colour of my skin. It was when I was in primary four that I started practising lesbianism. ” Her parents did not know she was into this practice. She continued her story: “My parents sent me to a good secondary school for me to embrace good morals, not knowing that I had lost it. There again I continued from where I stopped. I had so many girl friends and we made love always. I was really indulging in it .The teachers in our school then saw nothing wrong when we used to sit on other girls’ laps, romancing and handling their nipples. To them, we were just playing.‘’ She was asked, how do fellow lesbians identify one another in the public or how do they approach each other for friendship? She replied: “We communicate with our eyes. We toast each other by using eye contact. It is real. I have done it, they have done it for me and it was 95per cent effective. Another way is by introducing them to you. It is very common.’’ She described the act of making love as fun, interesting and romantic. In her words: “We used to date and we would be eager to see our partners. We would be waiting anxiously for our partners whom we wanted to have sex with. It was a serious business. I used to act as a man during love making. We would kiss, caress, handle our breasts and teats while we would be moaning, and lost in ecstasy. It is like when a man and a woman are making love. But I don’t lick the genital like others.” She disclosed that many popular people in the society are into it. These, according to her, include top politicians, top professionals like bankers, medical doctors, the socialites, and even those in God’s Vineyard, the so-called women of God like female pastors and wives of pastors. Narrating one of her experiences, she said: “I dated a pastor’s wife. The woman had three children for her husband. It was during one of the church programmes that the pastor’s wife was introduced to me. The woman that was her ‘boyfriend’ was relocating abroad to continue her lesbianism where it is being practised without restraints. According to her, since the pastor’s wife had married and would have no time for her, she had to look for another partner.” That was why Morohunmubo got involved with her. The relationship, she said, went on without the knowledge of her husband. “It is a pity that the husband thought he was happily married but his wife was not”, she observed. She recounted further: “We used to meet at her residence but when she discovered that it was not safe as her husband could be suspecting her, she later went to rent a well- furnished apartment for me at Okunola, Egbeda where she used to come and have sex with me. Apart from this woman. I have lost count of women I was involved with during my sexual escapades. In fact many girls used to toast me because of my athletic stature “And we would quickly start our love making. They would buy gifts for me; give me presents whenever they are coming. We have our meeting point and today I cannot deny that they don’t have a church of their own for they have grown in number and they are in churches and big offices. They are everywhere’’. Morohunmubo also spoke about her, marriage. According to her she married just to satisfy people who could look down on her. She said: “You see, I had to marry when a man I met said if I got married it would solve my problem. I met him when I was going to do my JAMB in 1999. He paid my bride price, we did traditional introduction and we settled down. But after making love to me I would still go out to meet my girls friends to have sexual intercourse with them .I was not satisfied with my husband. I didn’t enjoy sex with any man. But for procreation I had to do it with my husband. He was just wasting his time having sex with me for I never enjoyed it. But in the end, the relationship produced two children. The children, however, died .One was five years old before he died and the other died after child birth. I later parted with my husband.” She continued: “I went into another relationship. I married a man who thought he could save me from my problem but he could not. I had a child for him but the baby died. I believed that God was punishing me for my sins for the lesbian that I was. It is in the Bible that a woman should not sleep with a woman and a man should not have sex with a man. That is sodomy.’’ Marriage, she said, does not solve the problem of lesbianism. “Even science has not found the solution to it. Imagine many are affected by Same Sex Attraction called SSA. My sex is more attracted to me than the male counterpart. Men irritate me. I have no feeling if I am with or sleep with a male partner and that is a great problem. “I am now out to fight this devil called lesbianism. It is a great danger to our children and women. It is like gay. It is difficult to know them for all is done in secrecy. However, she was relieved from the problem temporarily but got involved again as she was tempted to sleep with another pastor’s wife. She said: “I was already out of it last year until I was tempted by a pastor’s wife and we started making love again. When I became conscious again I regretted it and fought the woman in the presence of her husband but none of us out of shame could tell what we were fighting over. The husband did not know anything. I later went to my pastor and confessed and he prayed for me.” She said since last year when she started attending the church she now attends, the Word of Eternal Life and Revival Ministry Orisumibare, Idimu she discovered that she was now changing. “I will soon be fully rehabilitated and I am ready to go on air, over the radio and television to inform the ladies who are into it to stop for it is dangerous and it is a sin”, she said, quoting some Bible verses in condemnation of the act. She also said: “When I am fully rehabilitated I will raise my own children. I plead with all parents and guardians to keep watch on their children,. Lesbianism is bad.” http://thenationonlineng.net/web3/arts/3036.html |
Dear Agatha, The problem I am about to share with you started last year when I went for National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Northern part of Nigeria. While there I met a lady I fell in love with. We actually agreed to get married. Sometime last year, she left for Lagos where she actually lives. Almost immediately, I began to hear uncomplimentary stories about her. There were rumours that she keeps the company of a particular man and that they are always seen close to the house. Initially, I doubted the stories thinking they are malicious and intended to break us. But my initial confidence in her began to wane when she began to make some inexplicable visits to places I don’t know. For instance, in December last year, she travelled on the 23rd and didn’t return until January 3, 2010. When I asked where she went, she told me she went to visit her mother’s brother in Yola. Another time, she left for a nearby village. She came back with a very glamorous hairstyle decorated with very expensive beads. When I asked how she got the money for such expensive hairstyle, she said she did some jobs while there. In the same January, I saw her with the same man I have been told she is having affair with through the window of my room discussing. She came back when she noticed I have come back home. Since I wasn’t sure of what it was they were discussing or the nature of his visit, I pretended as if I didn’t see anything and went out again of the house. I went to stay in a place that gave me a good view of the house. Almost immediately I left she went back to the house behind my window where I earlier viewed both of them discussing. I waited for five hours before she came out of the house. Five minutes after the man left the place also. When I asked where she has been throughout the time she was out, she told me she went somewhere with her brother. At that point, I had no option but to confront her with what I saw. Almost instantly, her story changed that she actually went into the house I saw her go into but that nothing happened between her and the man. She said she only went in there to discuss with the man and denied having anything sexual to do with the man. Agatha, she has kept denying having an affair with this man and each time she says it, there are tears in her eyes. Do you think she is innocent? Can I still trust her? I don’t want to make mistake, please advise me. Maxwell. |
70% Nigerians’ brains malfunction –Psychiatrist From BOLU-OLU ESHO, Ado-Ekiti Friday, July 09, 2010 More Stories on This Section National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) was recently put to task by the analysis of a psychiatrist who declared that out of every 10 Nigerians, seven displayed strange behaviour. Mr. Dipo Lafenwa, a guest at this year’s UN International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking organized by the Ekiti State Command of NDLEA, gave the analysis while addressing the stakeholders in Ado-Ekiti. He disclosed that it takes more years to rectify whatever damage done to a drug addict’s blood system than even the number of years the illicit drugs are consumed by the victim. Lafenwa revealed that illicit drugs consumption did not stop at the table of commercial motorists and motorbikers, but some prominent people in the society consumed and engaged in the circulation of the lethal substances. The state Commander of NDLEA, Mr. Bamidele Akingbade, implored royal fathers to acquaint their subjects with the danger in the cultivation and consumption of the dangerous weed, Indian hemp. Soliciting the support of the state government in the fight against the menace, the commander disclosed that logistics required in carrying out their dangerous mission of stamping out cultivation and consumption of Indian hemp and other illicit drugs in the state were limited. The state Commissioner for Health, Femi Thomas, told the stakeholders in attendance that a law had been promulgated by the state government that any land on which Indian hemp was found would be seized. He listed various damages done to the individual consumer of illicit drugs and the society at large to include brain damage, liver damage, social and psychological damages. He said huge fund was expended on the rehabilitation of victims of illicit drug, besides the inglorious image it gives the country in the outside world. The psychiatrist also dropped another bombshell when he disclosed that the most productive population of the nation was neck deep in illicit drugs, taking the nation’s economy to the cliffhanger. The NDLEA commander was, however, optimistic that the menace could be subdued if all sectors joined hands with the drug warriors in the battle against the dangerous drugs. http://www.sunnewsonline.com/webpages/news/national/2010/july/09/national-02-09-2010-013.htm |
Good Morning! Thursday July 08, 2010 Services Back Page Okotie slams FG over Eagles’ ban By Our reporter Thursday, July 08, 2010 • Rev. Chris Okotie Photo: Sun News Publishing * More Stories on This Section Presidential aspirant, Rev. Chris Okotie, has condemned the recent ban on the Super Eagles by the Federal Government and its subsequent reversal following the threat by the world soccer regulatory body, FIFA, to ban Nigeria if it fails to reverse the decision. In a brief jibe at the PDP-led Federal Government in between sermons at his Church, The Household of God, Oregun, Lagos, last Sunday, Rev. Okotie said, “It is whimsical, capricious and absurd to ban the Super Eagles because they lost some matches at the World Cup. If FIFA moves against Nigeria, the government would backtrack.” And so, it happened that the government reversed its decision, which would certainly dismay many observers. Rev. Okotie had earlier decried the government’s frequent policy summersault at the declaration of his presidential ambition in Lagos on June 29, 2010. He told his supporters at a forum in Lagos during the week that policy reversals were a hallmark of the internal contradictions in the PDP. “A government that can reverse its decision within one week should not be taken seriously by the people it claims to represent. This action clearly shows that the government is not thorough; it lacks sound policy making machinery, which could engender lasting success for its programmes.” Rev. Okotie said that it was a shame that an international institution like FIFA could stare down a whole sovereign state like Nigeria because the country’s policy makers were careless. “They ought to have examined the full implications of the action they took concerning our withdrawal from all competitions before taking the decision. Now, we have exposed our country’s lack of administrative acumen and cohesion to a watching world,” Okotie lamented. The reverend restated his well-known position that the PDP lacked the capacity to govern the nation. “Only a FRESH government, led by me, has the vision and commitment to drive Nigeria on a path of growth and stability,” he added. He urged the Federal Government to carefully study the problems facing the nation’s sports in all its ramifications and proffer solutions instead of making ill conceived ad-hoc moves. |

Lagos Parents May Go To Jail For Flogging Their Children print print Author: Date: Jul 7th, 2010. | Category: Metro, News. | Follow comments: RSS 2.0. | You can leave a response below. | If the Criminal Law Bill currently being deliberated by the Lagos State House of Assembly sails through, then many parents in the state would face various prison terms for beating up their kids. The bill has prescribed prison terms for various offences including the beating or flogging of children by their parents. The bill also sees the maltreatment of animals as a criminal offence while the culprits are liable to imprisonment. It also seeks to legalise abortion but this is limited to incidents of rape and incest. This was made known at a public hearing on the bill for a law to enact rules on criminal conduct, regulate public order and for other connected purposes with the title: “The Criminal Law of Lagos State 2010”. The bill, if passed into law, would also promote an orderly society, foster collective obligation and duty towards the preservation and protection of life and property. It would also discourage and deal with conducts that unjustifiably and inexcusably inflict or threaten substantial harm to individual or public interests. The bill also seeks to look at persons whose conducts indicate that they are disposed to commit offences. The bill which is divided into nine parts, 48 chapters and 414 sections, classifies offences into three types namely: felony, misdemeanours and simple offences. Section eight of the bill defines felony as “any offence which is declared by law to be a felony, or is punishable, without proof of previous conviction with death or with imprisonment for three years or more. “All offences, other than felonies and misdemeanours are simple offences.” However, some Lagosians who attended the public hearing advocated for the abolishment of capital punishment, life imprisonment, and called for the legalisation of abortion in cases of incest, rape, HIV/AIDS and other unusual circumstances. According to them, the maximum prison sentence for offenders should be put at 20 years since criminals could be reformed and make meaningful contribution to the society after serving their prison terms. Professor Adedokun Adeyemi of the University of Lagos, while commenting on the issue said, “death penalty does not affect the rate of criminality and Lagos in the 21st century should not adopt it.” —Eromosele Ebhomele |

ve a response below. | A student has been jailed for 18 months for falsely claiming a cleaner had raped her – so she could get an extension on her university course work. Temitope Adenugba According to the London Daily Mail, Temitope Adenugba, 24, was struggling to meet a deadline whilst studying at Oxford Brookes University last year. She phoned police to tell them she had been abused as a child, before complaining she had also been subjected to a serious sexual assault as she slept in her university digs. When officers attended her halls of residence to take a statement, Adenugba pointed at cleaner Kunle Ogunmola and said: ‘Can’t talk here, that’s the man who raped me.’ Mr Ogunmola was arrested, before a subsequent police investigation exposed a catalogue of lies and her claims later proved to be complete fantasy. The lie was created in a bid to get an extension on her end-of-term coursework, the court heard. Sentencing her to 18 months in prison at Oxford Crown Court on Friday, Recorder Rabinder Singh said: ‘It’s extremely easy to make an allegation of rape when there’s no foundation whatsoever. ‘It’s likely to have the perverse impact of guilty men walking free.’ The court heard that police attended Clive Booth Halls of residence, Oxford, on May 21 last year after she reported historic abuse against her as a child. Officers interviewed her but were stunned when she told them Mr Ogunmola had used a key to get into her room on April 13 and raped her. A full police investigation was launched and the cleaner was quizzed and later arrested. But police found any keys taken by Mr Ogunmola had been returned by April 12 and would not have given him access to her room at any time. Adenugba had also alleged her victim had been harassing her with phone calls, but analysis of both parties’ mobile phones showed this to be a lie. Scientific examination of her pyjamas also revealed no link to Mr Ogunmola. Mr Walsh added that Adenugba had made a fictitious rape complaint against a previous partner in October 2006. Walter Scott, mitigating, said his client had made the claim against Mr Ogunmola after an earlier false allegation of harassment against the same man ‘didn’t have the desired effect of extending her time to do her coursework’. He added: ‘She was not seeking to directly attack the victim, he was chosen rather arbitrarily.’ Det Ch Insp Colin Paine, of Thames Valley Police, said: ‘It is exceptionally rare and unusual for a malicious complaint to be made in this way. It caused significant distress to the man who was accused.’ |

Dear Agatha, I am a woman in deep pains and in the midst of the greatest embarrassment of my life. My husband is the pastor and general overseer of our church. Since he founded this church, he has been doing very well until he met this lady who joined the church. She works with an oil company while I teach. She has a lot of money to spend and before I knew what was happening she and my husband had become very close and a pair. Soon, people began to talk about them but I ignored them all, insisting that they were working towards the growth of the church. When their relationship became very noticeable, I called my husband to intimate him with what people were saying about them but he told me not to worry, that the people were only jealous and that as a man of God he had a responsibility to all the sheep God directs his way. The lady soon started buying him clothes. She even bought him a car. Gifts like these from members are not strange but this was different. She excluded the children and I from such benevolence and made sure that when it was time for me to address the women, she took the centre stage with, of course, the active support of my husband. Many of the women in the church could not understand what was happening. Some asked what her status in the church was; others gossiped about it. As a true Christian and mother of the church, I didn’t quarrel so as not to lay a bad example for other couples who looked up to me for solutions to their marital problems. At home, my husband continued to deny any special affection for her. He kept insisting that she was close to him because of her role in the church. To underscore his point, he pointed out a number of women and men who were similarly close to him based on their roles in the church. One day, she came home with him to announce that she was packing in as his second wife, and that they had done the traditional and court weddings. A copy of the marriage certificate was shown me to prove their seriousness. It was the saddest day of my life. If I thought the matter would end up like that I was wrong. The following Sunday at the service, she took her place on the altar as the wife of the general overseer. The children and I attended service as ordinary members. My shame was complete. The church immediately split into two. The women, especially the elderly ones queued behind me. A lot of the men were cautious. Only the very elderly ones showed open disapproval at what my husband had done. They tried to mediate but it was late as she was already pregnant. Some members who couldn’t take it left the church but a lot stayed behind to watch the unfolding drama. Now that she has given birth, my husband has threatened to throw me out. The woman and her people are threatening me with death if I don’t pack out. My husband doesn’t care about me anymore. His new wife has used her money to buy my husband and some prominent numbers of the church over. She gives out free clothes, shoes and bags to the youths in the church, and to families she suspects to be having problems, she gives financial aid. I really don’t care but the genuine members are urging me to quit for the sake of my children. They are afraid that my husband is under a powerful spell and could hurt me before he comes to his senses. Agatha, this is my dilemma. Do you think I should pack out of the house? I am deeply afraid for my life and those of my children. Each night, I wake up from terrible nightmare of a woman chasing me around with all sorts of charms and masquerades. It is not easy for me Agatha. People are mocking me. I am left with no will to fight anymore. Alaba |
Meanwhile, coach of the Korean team, Huh Jung-moo was full of gratitude to Yakubu for giving his side the opportunity of moving on in the World Cup, saying that Yakubu’s miss in yesterday’s match really helped his team to consolidate on the 2-2 draw till the end of the crucial encounter. According to him, “Despite the fact that we were down by a lone goal, we kept attacking because we know that Vincent Enyeama is good on one-one. I told my players to be shooting from any opportunity they had. We also knew that Nigerian goalie is not good at set pieces and that was what we practiced in training. So when we scored the goals, I knew we were going to win. “As regards the miss by Yakubu, I want to say thank you! and thank you!! to the striker. It may be a tragedy to Nigerians, but to us it is a good thing and I would continue to remember Yakubu for this.” http://pmnewsnigeria.com/2010/06/23/aiyegbenis-goal-miss-the-worst-kanu-chides-him-koreans-thank-him/ |
Woman delivers first baby at 59 | Print | E-mail Monday, 21 June 2010 Something close to a miracle occured last week when a 59- year old woman, Mrs Iyabo Balogun, was delivered of a baby. The miracle baby came after four fibroids and ovarian cyst that blocked her womb was removed by Dr. Christianah Abosede Oluwashola of the GVM International Ibadan. Telling the success story, Dr. Abosede explained “that nothing could have been more fictitious to her than the story of the possibility of her getting rid of the four fibroids tube blockage including two ovarian cyst that have given her lot of concern.” Added to her pain she said, was also the fast aging husband that clocked 60 at the time the story of the possible relief came. When she was told the success story of those who had their lives changed for better after the disappearance of their fibroids, she dismissed it as impossible. Later, she partially agreed that the fibroids could disappear quite all right, asking whether that would bring her age back to allow for a childbirth. The answer she got was the emphasis that Dr. Mrs Christianah Abosede Oluwashola of the GVM International had the magic wand to put smiles on her face through her medicinal herbs. There and then, she was persuaded to give it a thought her husband explained. After serious considerations, the couple met with Dr. Oluwashola, who had to be told of yet another impediment which had to do with the low spermatozoa count of Mr. Balogun, her husband. Desperate to get the fibroids removed as a first step towards getting Mrs Iyabo Balogun’s womb ready for her miracle baby, she was made to purchase the ovarian cyst and tube cream which are usually rub on the navels of patients to get the fibroid dissolved. It is usually after the dissolution Dr. Oluwashola told Nigerian Tribune that a patient got delivered of the discomforting substance to give way for proper ovulation to take place. Today, she said, “they are proud parents of a bouncing baby, the first in their life at the age no one would ever have expected such to happen.” Dr (Mrs) Christianah Abosede Oluwashola, a Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) trained medical doctor while speaking exclusively to Nigerian Tribune, explained that she diverted to herbal medicine through divine inspiration. So, as a surgeon, what she used to do with scapels are now done with herbs but with God’s strict directive, she said. Though a Christian and a teacher of the words, her patronage cuts across all religions. So, like any other professionals, she said she cares for everyone irrespectve of their religion as according to her, the new parents are both muslim. http://www.tribune.com.ng/index.php/news/7105-woman-delivers-first-baby-at-59 |
News Headlines Nigeria must breakup to enjoy peace —Primate Ayodele | Print | E-mail Written by Dele Ayeleso, Lagos Monday, 21 June 2010 A renowned prophet and the founder of INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, Primate Elijah Ayodele, has said the only condition for Nigerians to enjoy tranquility, politically and economically, is for the country to breakup. Primate Ayodele, while speaking at the third annual distinguished inaugural lecture organised by the Fellowship of Christian Ministers Nigeria (FCMN), held in Lagos, at the weekend, said the clamoured zoning system in the political system had never worked for the unity of the country. He also warned that President Goodluck Jonathan should not be deceived into contesting the 2011 presidential election, saying that he (Jonathan) was not the expected Messiah. “Jonathan should leave the stage, he will not do anything good. How many months will it take him to restore power in Nigeria? For how long should Christians pray for Nigerian government? There is no need for prayer again. The only solution is to break up,” he said. While speaking on the theme of the lecture, Nigeria nation at 50: the impact of the church challenges of the future, Primate Ayodele, who described the country as an adult baby at 50, lambasted former President, Olusegun Obasanjo. Primate Ayodele described the eight-year tenure of the former president as the worst period that the Yoruba race had ever experienced. According to him, “zoning system will alter the plan of God for the nation, it will not help us. What did Obasanjo do to improve the Yoruba race? Obasanjo insulted Christian leaders, did he apologise? Will Obasanjo family be ever poor again? Check the percentage of Yoruba race that are still poor, still Obasanjo ruled this country for eight years.” While fielding questions from newsmen, Primate Ayodele noted that most Christian leaders had traded their integrity, adding that Christians were more of the problem of the country than the solutions. Speaking on the current position of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Primate Ayodele said the leaders had failed woefully in their responsibility. |
now while the whole nation heaps blame on sanin kaita for costing us the match against greece, lets sit back a bit and look at things from a different angle - the red card in question was harsh - really it should have been a yellow as someone who did the same thing in the france vs mexico match got a yellow now lets move further - why is it possible for teams with ten men to beat us and yet it is impossible for us to beat teams with ten men? doesn't that say something? who said it was impossible for teams with ten men to win matches? lets go down history lane - cameroun beat argentina with 9 - yes 9 men in the 1990 nations cup - and four years later, we lost to a ten man italian team in usa - and just three years ago, a ten man ghanian team beat us on their home soil during the nations cup and even if we had 11 men on the pitch, who is to say, greece would not have scored anyway - it wasn't as if we had clear-cut domination of the match why did our boys resort to defending heavily after the red card - it was because they lacked confidence and felt the red card was the end of their world - personally, i expected things to change in the second half but they came out and foolushly kept on defending instead of attacking - greece could sense fear in the nigerian side and they capitalised on that - it's quite obvious that attack is the best form of defense and continous attack means pressure and continous pressure would result in goals abeg lay of kaita - the eagles were simply not good enough! ![]() |

Show Of Shame At Eagles’ Camp: Kanu, Etuhu Escape Head Blows, As Officials Clash Author: Date: Jun 14th, 2010. | Category: News, Today's Headlines. | Follow comments: RSS 2.0. | You can leave a response below. | The Federal Government of Nigeria better act fast otherwise the infighting between some officials of the national team may scuttle the progress of the Super Eagles at the ongoing World Cup in South Africa. P.M.Sports watched in awe, how two prominent officials, ASP Gideon Akinsola, the Camp Commandant and Eagles’ Coordinator, Emmanuel Attah exchanged hot words right in front of the players this afternoon. The show of shame, which lasted for about ten minutes around 1.30 p.m at the entrance of Eagles’ Waterfront Hotel camp in Richards Bay, was almost getting into physical blows when Skipper Nwankwo Kanu and Dickson waded into the fracas. ASP Gideon Akinsola (right), Eagles’ Camp Commandant and Coordinator. Kanu, who did not feature in Eagles’ opening match in Johannesburg on Saturday, almost received head blows as the feuding Akinsola and Attah tried to hit each other in the face. ‘‘Hey brothers, stop this now, what’s up now? This is not good for us at this crucial time. Please Etuhu hold Akinsola’’, Kanu said as he separated the officials. As Kanu was pushing Attah away from the scene, Etuhu, who plays for English Premier League Club, Fulham urged Akinsola to go to his duty post. Both players, who were on their ways out to the Mall, spent extra minutes to stop the ranting officials, who threatened to continue with the personality clash later. P.M.Sports investigations revealed that Akinsola and Attah have personality clash and have been fighting over who should be in charge of the squad’ daily routine. Bola Omilabu, The Nation Newspapers Sports Photographer, who witnessed the clash expressed disappointment over the unending crisis between Akinsola and Attah, saying: ‘‘This is too bad for our nation. The officials would have gone into the Hotel to settle the issue quietly instead of disgracing themselves in the presence of the players’’. The FIFA officials and South African security personnel attached to the Eagles also expressed shock at the open crisis. It would be recalled that Akinsola and Attah had a similar quarrel during the African Cup Of Nations in Angola in January this year. The officials of Nigeria Football Federation, NFF are yet to react to the crisis, but Kanu promised to take the case to the body before their next training tomorrow. Meanwhile, Kanu and his teammates spent today, their rest day to visit Shoprite and The Mall in Richards Bay, to do some shopping as the coach wants the squad to get down to serious business from tomorrow ahead of Thursday’s second Group B match against Greece. |

Deji’s only option is suicide – Chief Alex Akinyele By Jossy Idam Sunday, June 13, 2010 Chief Alex Akinyele Photo: Sun News Publishing * More Stories on This Section Going by the time –honoured tradition of the Yorubas and palace culture, the former Minister for Information, Chief Alex Akinyele says the only option left for the deposed Deji of Akure, Oba Oluwadare Adepoju Adesina is to commit royal suicide . According to him, a Yoruba oba must not be disgraced. In an interview with Sunday Sun in Lagos, he said that the Deji should have just opened a calabash in his palace and die quietly: “The calabash contains a parrot egg. When he opens and looks at it, he will die. That’s royal suicide. It’s better than the show of shame and disgrace he is facing now”, chief Akinyele said. He went on and outlined the things a Yoruba Oba must not do: Next to God In Yorubaland, the oba is above everyone else. He is revered – everybody respects him. From his traditional cognomen, you will know how he is regarded. We say ka-bi-yesi. It means nobody can question you. Whatever you do, you do it with impunity. The oba in Yorubaland is also called ‘orisa keji’, meaning second in command to the supreme deity. When you say God, the second person is the Oba. You can see how highly placed he is. We go on to say Iku baba yeye- the person who can pronounce death on his father and mother. That’s how the Yoruba’s esteem their kings. Being in that super- mundane situation, so much are expected of the oba. Must not eat out In the first place, an oba must not eat in public. For instance, in Ondo we Say, ‘Eruo oji mama’, the mouth that pronounces death and honour, is not the type of mouth that will be seen by anybody. That’s why their crown covers their mouth. Must not offend his subjects An Oba must not engage in an activity that will make people around him to raise eyebrows. You can’t abuse an Oba. The only way you can accept what the Kabiyesi has done is ‘mmh’. It may mean approval or disapproval. You must not show that the Kabiyesi- the man who cannot be queried that you resent what he has done. But an oba must not offend his subjects. The reason is that he is basically above them. He must therefore not go out of his way to annoy or offend them. Must not commit adultery An Oba must not commit adultery. The reason behind this is that there’s nobody so bold to come close to the Oba’s wives. To reciprocate this, the Oba must not commit adultery .We keep Udeso (eunoch) in the palace. An Udeso is a castrated man. He is the only man who can see the Oba’s wives. Must be groomed in the palace An oba must not do things, which common men can do. Oba’s grow up in the palace. With this, an Oba must be groomed in the ways of the Yoruba tradition. And as the tradition goes, Obas must grow within the palace. Living in the palace, they will be groomed in the culture, tradition and ways of the palace. So when they become an oba, they know how to behave . In Yorubaland, unless you are an Omo n’oba, you cannot become an Oba. You must know these things from the beginning. Must not expose his head An Oba’s head must not be exposed. Even in the churches- Catholic, Methodist and so on, they grant them the indulgence of covering their head with a white cap. Their head must never be seen, they don’t have to wear their crown to church. They dare not leave their hair open. When an oba cannot eat in public, expose his head, offend people or abuse them, how then can he engage himself in public brawl? It’s a sacrilege. Royal suicide But if the Deji of Akure were like other obas in the South- west- even Benin, there’s a calabash in the palace, once he opens the calabash, he will die automatically. An Oba is not supposed to see disgrace like the Deji of Akure. In our history, a lot of Obas have taken that way to exit and avoid disgrace. You can’t take an Oba to court or sentence him to serve jail term, if you try it, before you say Jack Robinson, he will go into the palace, open the calabash and die. So, they prefer dying honourably. Nobody will querry them and they must not see disgrace. It’s more honourable to commit suicide and go. And when an oba dies like that, he is buried with full traditional honours. There was a time an oba was sent to exile. Yes the case of Oba Olateru Olagbegi of Owo. He was more of a political oba. As a result, he clashed with his people- the opposition. The opposition sent him on exile. He knew it was temporary. He later came back to rule in Owo. He died on the throne. By returning and dying on the throne legitimizes his royal descendant and lineage. But even if he had died in exile, his children might still become kings. For instance, the father of the current Alafin of Oyo died in exile here in Lagos. His son Lamidi Adeyemi is there now. By reference, Lamidi: Adeyemi is an epitome of what a Yoruba should be – in dressing, behaviour and so on. He’s an awesome kabiyesi. He will not do any that will make anyone to look down on him. He inherited all these from his father. When Yoruba obas get involved in politics, they can experience any disgrace. I remember the Odemo of Isara. The government of Awolowo reduced his salary to 1 kobo per annum. He didn’t die. He knew it was temporary. That’s why our Obas are very careful about being politically active. They know that the government of the day will rubbish them. Wise Obas don’t go into politics. When they get involved in politics, people in the opposition can abuse them. But an Oba must not be abused by anybody. Role of Oba’s wife The role of Oba’s wife, the Yeye Oba is to coordinate the activities of women in the city. She is the only one who can quietly correct the kabiyesi. As his wife, all the domestic responsibilities expected of her, she will do them. She is the domestic head of the palace. In Ondo, when an oba dies , his wives remain in the palace. So, there are so many women in the palace. The Olori , the wife of the kabiyesi is their head. She looks after them, makes sure they eat well, wear good clothes and so on. But these days- in some Yoruba setting, when an oba dies, and if the women are still young , they can leave the palace. When they go, they are no more the responsibility of the reigning monarch. But if the Olori is angry and leaves the palace, the oba will send some chiefs to go and bring her back. There are high chiefs who will go and bring her back. Infact when they are going, they will go with the Oba’s horsetail. Once they give it to her and tell her the oba sent them to bring her back, she won’t dare refuse. The horsetail does not sleep outside. So, she or anyone so compelled must come and see the kabiyesi. This is the way, the Deji of Akure should have been able to reach his Olori Bolanle and not that shameful public display. http://www.sunnewsonline.com/webpages/features/newsonthehour/2010/june/13/newsbreak-13-06-2010-001.htm |
