Weapons heading for Jos intercepted
advertisement

MAIDUGURI, Nigeria – Officials with Nigeria's security services say they've intercepted 52 Kalashnikov rifles and tens of thousands of ammunition rounds heading for an area that has been the scene of religious violence.

The Borno state director of the Nigeria State Security Service says five men were arrested for trying to bring the weapons from neighboring Chad. Director Abdullahi Ahmed told reporters Wednesday that the men hid the rifles, ammunition and about $32,000 underneath vegetables and dried fish in two cars.

Ahmed says the weapons were heading for Jos, the epicenter of religious violence in Nigeria's "middle belt," where dozens of ethnic groups vie for control of fertile lands. Hundreds of Christians and Muslims have died in fighting there this year alone.

Siasia Set To Take Over Eagles

There are strong indications that Samson Siasia may take over the coaching job of Nigeria’s Super Eagles before the end of this week.

•Siasia: Set to grab Eagles’ plum job.

The former coach of the silver medal winning U-23 Eagles at the Beijing 2008 Olympics, whose Heartland’s team lost 0-1 to Ismaily of Egypt in the CAF Champions League match played in Cairo last night is scheduled to hold another round of negotiations with Nigeria Football Federation, NFF tomorrow in Abuja. His lawyer, Ijere Austin hopes a deal will be struck at the meeting.

Acting Chairman of NFF Technical Committee, Dominic Iorfa, corroborated Austin’s statement, saying the FA is waiting for the former Nigerian international to return from his continental duty in Cairo for the NFF officials to conclude the ongoing contract negotiation with him.

“Once Siasia is back we’ll indeed enter into another round of negotiation with him to finalise the deal. The board of the NFF will meet on Wednesday to ratify whatever agreement we reach with him. But there are other coaches who would be interviewed to ensure that we do things with due process,” Iorfa said.

Lawyer Austin, however, disclosed that Siasia is ready to satisfy the yearning of soccer loving Nigerians to shift ground in taking a reasonable deal the NFF will give him. He told MTNFootball.com that “Siasia is desperate to satisfy the yearnings of Nigerians who love him so much and have been clamouring for him to get the job. So, he is ready to finalise discussions with the leadership of the NFF on Tuesday (tomorrow).

“We have discussed and he has agreed to lower his demands. This we hope to convince the NFF when we meet again. Although I won’t be able to give you details now until we finish our discussions.

“We also believe this contract will be improved on after he has impressed on the job.”

Indications are that Siasia will now settle for a monthly salary of N5m and a signing-on fee of N50m. The lawyer also defended the $1m sign-on fee and $100,000 a month salary Siasia demanded for during contract talks with the NFF board last week in Abuja, arguing that it is from this amount that he will pay his backroom staff.

Siasia himself said: “I’m set for the job and hope that our final discussion is fruitful. I see this as a chance to serve my nation and I’m going to give it my best.

“The Eagles need an urgent attention immediately, the players must change their attitude and put Nigeria first whenever they are invited for national duties.”

Equated with Nostradamus, a 16th century French Physician/Prognosticator, Primate Babatunde Elijah Ayodele of INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church gained prominence for the accuracy of most of his predictions. He recently spoke with Sunday Sun in his modest office in the Oke-Afa, Isolo area of Lagos where he again reeled out several mind-blowing predictions. Excerpts…

INEC and Jega
This book (Warning to the Nations) was published in April 2010, in which I predicted that (former Independent National Electoral Commission chairman, Prof Maurice) Iwu will be removed and it came to pass. Let me tell you categorically that (Prof Attahiru) Jega does not have a solution to election rigging in Nigeria. Jega will disappoint Nigerians.

Don’t expect any miracle from the man, as he will eventually compromise. He would want to do the right thing but the forces in operation would not let him conduct a credible election. There is an agenda, which will make Jega to disappoint Nigerians and the President himself.

2011 election
Expect a lot of happenings. There will be election in 2011 and President Jonathan and IBB will contest. But I can tell you that (Abubakar) Atiku, (Muhammadu) Buhari can never rule this country again. As for Jonathan, he will contest but he will not win. There will be rigging and all sorts of vices. We all saw what happened after the June 12 (1993) election was annulled.

I have told you and I repeat it that this democracy will break this country. Apart from democracy breaking this country, the issue of zoning will bring no good to the country. The solution is that Jonathan must not contest the election if you want peace. He should honour the gentleman agreement in the PDP(Peoples Democratic Party) so that the country can move forward. If Jonathan contests, he will win by force but it will cause a lot of problems for the country, and this country may break up as a result of it.

People may see this as a bad prediction, but for those that have ears let them listen to the warning of God. People may criticize it but it is a warning from God. For those that God loves, He reveals himself.
People are pushing Jonathan to run for presidency in 2011 but he should not listen to them. Old politicians will pitch tent against themselves that may result in another coup in Nigeria. In the interim, a sponsored coup is likely to occur. I know President Jonathan may not like what I’m saying, but he should not listen to sycophants.
We predicted last year that there would be changes in (late President Umaru) Yar’Adua’s government. A lot of people criticized it. If Jonathan wants this country to be one indivisible entity, he should not contest next year’s presidential election. I am not against Jonathan, but that is what God says. We are saying it the way God revealed it to us. This is not a matter of calculation; it is what God said.

I am saying it for the avoidance of doubt that Nigeria will break up. Whether we pray or not, it is the wish of God. I know many people may not like to hear this. Some may be saying why is this man talking like this, but it is what God has decreed. Nigeria will not experience peace until it breaks up. I don’t know when it will happen but it will come to pass.

Let us pray for peaceful election. Lagos State governor, (Babatunde) Fashola, will be elected for a second term but it is not going to be easy for him. There will be problems in Ogun State because of the 2011 election as a greenhorn will emerge as the governor. Alao-Akala will be elected by force in Oyo and there is going to be problem in the state. In Ekiti, Oni will contest and will win. I did not see (Rauf) Aregbesola as governor of Osun. If the internal wrangling in the Osun State PDP is not resolved, they may not pick the right candidate for the election.

After the 2011 election, there is going to be agitation for a new state from the present Osun. Ijebu State is coming out of Ogun. A new state is coming out of Lagos but not at this time.

Niger Delta
The issue of militancy in Niger Delta is not over yet. Another set of militants will soon emerge.

House of Representatives
The House of Representatives will continue having crises until (Dimeji) Bankole is removed. Both (federal) legislative houses will come up with controversial bills that will cause confusion in the country. The present lawmakers will not carry out a good Constitution amendment. Another set of lawmakers will amend the Constitution that Nigerians will accept. A national conference that will negotiate Nigeria’s future is on the way.
Elders of the Christian Association of Nigeria should leave the running of CAN to the youths. A reform is coming to CAN and we should pray against another religious crisis. If it is not prevented with prayers, the crisis will leave the country devastated.

Entertainment and education sectors
There will be crisis in ANTP (Association of Nigerian Theatre Practitioners) that will last for about eight years. The body will witness a lot of changes. Another faction will emerge from the present ANTP that will bear another name. We need to pray very well so that we don’t lose a respected artiste this year.
The policy makers will change our educational system. The 6-3-3-4 system will be changed as well as the university education system.

Man To Marry Dead Wife

Author: Date: Aug 10th, 2010. | Category: Metro, News. | Follow comments: RSS 2.0. | You can leave a response below. |

Plans have been concluded for a man whose pregnant wife died recently after a fight with her, to perform her traditional marriage because he could not do so when she was alive.

He is now going to pay her bride price and perform the traditional marriage with her corpse, according to Igbo tradition.

The 27-year old pregnant woman, Ndidi Amaka Okoli reportedly collapsed and died a few minutes after a fight with her husband, Emmanuel Okoli.

The incident happened at their 53, Otitokoro Street, Egbe, Lagos, Nigeria. Following her death, the relations went to the police station at Ikotun and reported the matter. And he was arrested.

P.M.NEWS investigations revealed that the late Ndidiamaka was a nurse before she went and started living with Emmanuel as husband and wife. The relationship lasted for three years and was blessed with a daughter.

Throughout the years they were living as husband and wife, no bride price was paid neither did he perform the traditional wedding as required by their culture in Imo State. All efforts made by the relations of the deceased to prevail on him to do the introduction failed as he only made promises he did not fulfill.

P.M.NEWS gathered that the couple had disagreement which later resulted in a scuffle. She died later. After the incident, the husband was alleged to have deposited her corpse at Isolo General Hospital before informing her relations.

A police source confirmed the incident and told P.M.NEWS that they had commenced investigation on the matter.

As part of making peace between the two families, it was decided that since the man did not pay her bride price before she died, the man cannot claim that she was his wife until he does so.

This is to enable the woman’s family to be part of the burial.

This development was confirmed by the deceased woman’s brother, Osondu Ezekule, adding that he cannot claim to be their in-law without proper marriage being conducted even after the woman’s death.

Christianity EtcPastor Adeboye Retires Retires Four Senior Pastors by shadrach77(op): 4:52pm On Aug 09, 2010
The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, RCCG, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has retired four Special Assistant General Overseers (SAGO), who also doubled as regional pastors and replaced them with younger pastors.

•Pastor Adeboye.

The retired pastors include Pastor Ojo and Pastor Aderibigbe, who had attained the retirement age of 70.

They were replaced with Pastor E.A. Odeyemi, Pastor Daramola, Pastor D. Lawal and Pastor Obayemi, who were the regional pastors in Jos, Abuja, Ilorin and Sagamu respectively.

The newly promoted pastors, who had held the posts of evangelist and special assistants,

have been in the ministry for 32 years.

Also, some Special Assistants have been posted to head foreign mission offices in Cameroon, Ghana, India and some European countries.

The new Redeemed church calendar year starts with the church’s 58th convention that kicks off today and during the week-long programme, some workers of the church will be ordained.

Meanwhile, there seems to be no end to reaction to the exit of Pastor Itua Ighodalo, the former pastor of the Christ Church Parish of the RCCG, in Gbagada, a suburb of Lagos, who was sacked by the church because he got married a second time, ten years after he separated from his estranged wife.

Pastor Adeboye at the end of this year’s ministers’ conference of the church warned the pastors of the church that it is only death that can make any of them re-marry in the church.

He said they are free to divorce only if they are ready to hands off all spiritual duties in the church, adding that every member has a right to leave the church if he is not ready to abide by the rules and regulations of the church.

Pastor Adeboye told the ministers that Redeemed Church is not a cult but a church, where couples are joined together with the Bible and not the ring.

He reiterated that the reason for this is simple: “ring can be stolen, lost, rust, the owner may removed it but for the Bible, forever, oh Lord, thy word is settled.”

Between 30 and 70 per cent of urban dwellers in Nigeria live in unplanned or informal settlements also called slums, the country representative of UN-Habitat, Professor Johnson Falade, and Kabir M. Yari, Managing Director, Urban Development Bank of Nigeria (UDBN), have said.

They stated this at a recent conference on ‘Sustainable Cities’ organised by the New Economic Partnership on African Development (NEPAD), held in Abuja, the country’s capital city.

Professor Falade cited overcrowding, poor structural defects and sanitation, lack of potable water supply and lack of security as features of such slums, while Yari said, “it is estimated that “about 30 – 70% of the urban population in Nigerian cities live in unplanned or informal settlements.”

Prof. Falade further highlighted development challenges of rapid urbanisation without adequate city planning, to include: emergence of fast growth and ill equipped settlements characterised by factors including inefficient and uncoordinated urban governance, poor economic and resource base of cities, lack of community participation in urban development, poor urban land management, insecurity of tenure, juvenile delinquency and crime, and unsustainable development

Talking about sustainable development, he said, “it contains within it two key concepts: the concepts of ‘needs’, in particular the essential needs of the world’s poor, to which overriding priority should be given; and the idea of limitations imposed by the state of technology and social organisation on the environment’s ability to meet present and future needs.”

However, Yari said it is estimated that over 60 per cent of the housing stock in low income countries and up to 85 per cent of newly produced housing is from the informal sector, pointing out that “governments are faced with four factors which are difficult to reconcile.”

According to him, “the cheapest legal house or housing unit in the open market is too expensive for a large proportion of urban households and that governments are unable or unwilling to adopt a continuous process of land acquisition and deposition on a scale which matches the needs of households excluded from the formal market.”

Yari also maintained that Nigerian cities are faced with acute housing shortage, adding that “it was estimated that between 3 and 4 million dwelling units of various types would be needed by the year 2000 and the number would increase to about 6 to 8 million in 2010,” he said.
FamilyMy Sister's Husband Has A Secret Wife - Should I Reveal The Secret? by shadrach77(op): 1:19pm On Jul 24, 2010
Dear Agatha,

What I’m about to tell you has been giving me sleepless nights for close to a year now. I must say it has been giving me even high blood pressure as well.

I live with my sister and her husband. They have been married for quite sometime now without any child. Both of them look happy together even without a child.

However, early last year, I stumbled on a piece of information that started my emotional upset. I got to know that my sister’s husband has impregnated a lady in another state different from where we’re leaving. I couldn’t tell my sister, couldn’t tell anybody either. I was confused and decided to put it off as mere rumour.

A month ago, I confirmed this to be true, even with names. The lady has given birth. Every two weeks, my brother-in-law gives official reasons for travelling. My sister does not know this and I’m not sure whether to tell her. This is why I am worried and stressful. What can I do?

Worried Sister.

A baby dumped in a canal at Vulvanizer Bus Stop, Gowon Estate, Ipaja, Lagos, Nigeria, has been rescued by sympathisers.

•The abandoned baby girl.

P.M.NEWS gathered that the little girl, who should be about a year and some months old, was found in the canal around 3 p.m. yesterday, struggling to come out of a sack in which she was stuffed with refuse.

Sympathisers who rescued the toddler said one of them noticed strange movement in the sack, which was likely thrown into the canal from its bank, and decided to check what was inside.

Says one of the sympathisers, who simply identified herself as Dolapo: “We noticed that there was movement in the sack, which attracted everybody to the scene. At first we saw that it was refuse, only to discover the poor girl was underneath it.

“Only God knows who dumped the baby and when the wicked act was perpetrated, but we were happy to see that she was alive. We quickly bathed her, clothed her and fed her to keep her alive.”

P.M.NEWS learnt that the baby girl was immediately taken to the Baale of Abule-Oki’s palace in the Mosan-Okunola Local Council Development Area after she had been taken care of, and later taken to Idimu Police Division where the case was reported.

At the time of filing this report this morning, plans were being made to take the girl to a motherless babies home for further care.

Meanwhile, while some sympathisers at the scene cursed whoever carried out the dastardly act, some believed the mother could have dumped her because she was unable to cater for her any longer.

Why Sammie Okposo Was Arrested In Scotland

Nigerian gospel singer and Glo ambassador, Sammie Okposo, has described his arrest in Aberdeen, Scotland during his honeymoon as an unfortunate incident, claiming that he was a victim of circumstance.

•Sammie Okposo

The multiple award-winning singer reiterated that he was surprised with the manner at which the Scottish Police handled the minor issue that should have been resolved amicably.

Explaining how the whole scenario happened, the Welu-Welu crooner’s Publicists, Media & Marketing Experts, MME, said “Sammie and his newly wedded wife, Ozioma in the company of their friends, Mr. and Mrs. Efemua, also Nigerians, had gone to a restaurant known as Jimmy Chung’s on Aberdeen’s Beach Esplanade to attend to their noisy stomach. They arrived at the restaurant at exactly 4.30pm but they were not aware that lunch time closes by 5pm. One of the attendants announced to them few minutes later that they have to rush their food and leave the restaurant before 5pm or else they will be charged for both lunch and dinner. At this point, Sammie was already dishing the food while the rest were sorting out where they would sit.

“The statement immediately resulted in a mild argument. They questioned the attendant why she had not informed them when they arrived; probably they would have waited till 5pm before they settle down in the restaurant. The argument attracted the attention of the manager of the restaurant identified as Ronny Shui Hung Yung who aggravated the issue the more and another lady went ahead to drag Sammie’s shirt and ordered him to stop dishing the food.

“But Sammie took it easy and told her politely that she shouldn’t have pulled his shirt. At this point, the manager of the restaurant was already harassing Sammie’s wife and pregnant wife of his friend, Eloho Efemua who happens to be the younger sister of popular Nigerian actor, Fred Amata.”

P. M NEWS gathered that when Sammie turned back after the violent attendant pulled his shirt, he realised that the manager was harassing his wife and Eloho, he immediately warned him to desist from the act.

“But when the manager didn’t stop, Sammie who was very shocked and displeased told the manager that he should make sure his fingers doesn’t touch his wife and that if he is tired of running this kind of restaurant, he should return to his country.

“Immediately Sammie made this statement, the manager wrote down Sammie’s friend car plate number and called the police to report a racial statement being made against him. Having realsed he had called the police, Sammie urged his wife including the other couple that they should wait for the police arrival and thrash out the issue once and for all,” MME explained.

Meanwhile, when the police arrived about 30 minutes later, it was gathered that they didn’t ask the Nigerian couples any question before taking them to the police station.

Speaking for the first time on the incident, Sammie Okposo who is now in Lagos, Nigeria said: “It is true they took us to their police station without listening to our own side of the story, but we played along with them as a good and law abiding citizens of Nigeria. After the court in Aberdeen did a thorough check on me on all the countries I have visited, they said my record is clean and impeccable. I was released the next day without making any official statement.

“But if the manager of the restaurant presses the issue further and it results in a court case, my lawyer in Scotland, Michael Munro will handle it. I don’t regret my actions for speaking up against bad and rude behaviours from the staff of Jimmy Chung Restaurant and defending my wife as a true African man.”

In her own words, the new bride of Okposo, Ozioma, said: “We could have afforded to go to anywhere in the world for our honeymoon, but we chose to visit Aberdeen because of all the good things we had heard. We have been emotional, mentally, financially, and physically drained on this trip, which brings us to one conclusion that going to Aberdeen for our honeymoon was the biggest mistake we ever make in our marriage.”

•The white toddler, Emmanuel, poses with the family.

Two days after the amazing birth last Sunday of a white baby to a Nigerian couple in England, another Nigerian couple has emerged in the same country with the incredible story of giving birth to a white child, the SUN newspaper of Londonreported today.

The Nigerian couple Ethelbert and Nkemakonam Ofor, both black and who live in Middlesborough said they had their child, fair-haired, green-eyed Emmanuel in February 2007.

According to the SUN, Emmanuel’s mum is still baffled by the colour of the three-year old child and is still in search of an explanation ‘for the genetic mix-up.’

The same Sun newspaper published last Tuesday the birth of blonde, blue-eyed Nmachi to Ben and Angela Ihegboro, who believe they have no white ancestry. Now, the Ihegboros said the baby girl will undergo full genetic tests after doctors said the odds of her white colouring were “between many millions to one and a million to one.”

The new revelation, Emmanuel – whose two sisters, Afoma, six, and six-month-old Whitney are both black – is also beginning to wonder why he looks different.

Dad Ethelbert, 43, said yesterday: “It is something genetic but we don’t know what.

“Emmanuel has got to the age where he is questioning why he is white and his sisters are black. We have to tell him that we just don’t know the answer.”

Mum Nkemakonam, 34, said nurses gathered round in amazement when she gave birth to Emmanuel in February 2007.

She revealed: “I was shocked as well – but not as much as everyone else.

“I have a distant cousin back home in Africa who had been born white to black parents as well, so I knew it could happen.”

Neither five-day-old Nmachi, of Woolwich, South London, nor Emmanuel, who lives n Middlesbrough, are albino.

Ethelbert, a psychiatric nurse originally from Nigeria, said of his son’s birth:

“I think the medical staff were concerned about how I would react. They didn’t warn me about his colour, and when I saw him for the first time they were looking very closely at my expression.

“They then asked me if I was happy and I told told them, ‘Of course I’m happy’.”

Like his wife, Ethelbert also has a distant relative in Africa born white to black parents.

He admits that some cruel people have urged him to get a DNA paternity test.

But he said: “There is no need. I know he is my son.”

But Ben and Angela Ihegboro have agreed to let geneticists study their daughter Nmachi born on Sunday, to find out whether the couple has a link to caucasian ancestry.

Geneticist Dr Mark Thomas, of University College, London, said the odds of the baby’s white colouring were “between many millions to one and a million to one”.

He said: “I suspect there’s been a mixture of a mutation, like albinism, combined with a dormant white gene.”

Professor Bryan Sykes, head of Human Genetics at Oxford University and Britain’s leading expert,

said: “In mixed race humans, the lighter variant of skin tone may come out in a child – and this can sometimes be startlingly different to the skin of the parents. This might be the case where there is a lot of genetic mixing, as in Afro-Caribbean populations. But in Nigeria there is little mixing.”

“The hair is extremely unusual. Even many blonde children don’t have blonde hair like this at birth.”

A Nigerian doctor based in California, United States of America said he was not surprised by such births.

In an e-mail sent to one of the senior editors of P.M. NEWS, Dr. Olufemi Ogundipe said the birth “may not be a miracle and neither of the couple need ‘have strayed’ or ‘have fallen off’ the wagon’.

“What is needed to prove what could have happened is the genome analyses of the child, and each of the parents.

“World-renowned medical geneticist and current NIH director, Francis S.Collins in his most recent book, The Language of Life . DNA and the Revolution In Personalized Medicine gave an account of an American man who looked black and suffered all the usual indignities suffered by a black man in his community turned out after genomic analysis to have no black ancestry.

“Furthermore, the story about 2-3 years ago when American John D, Watson (co-winner with British Francis Crick of Medicine Nobel Prize for their work on the double helix structure of DNA) created a firestorm when he pontificated on the inferiority of black people. To his own chagrin, his own genome analysis done some 3 weeks later showed that genetically he was a black man. Some food for thought there! The landmark human genome analysis will in addition to advancing the frontiers of Medicine will unearth many inconvenient truths about race. Welcome to the 21st century.”

What Pastors won't tell you about Tithes - A Rejoinder by Gbenga Olumekun
advertisement

The article “What Pastors Won’t Tell You About Tithes” by Kola Oshobi made interesting reading not because of its academic brilliance or his inverted logic but as an expose of his unparallel ignorance and masterful attempt to swim in waters where he did not even understand the depth of. As a practising Christian his attempt at writing on an issue such as tithing has provoked me to pen a rejoinder, not in an attempt to educate him, but to prevent innocent readers from being hoodwinked by a self professed Bible-believing Christian, “lover and fearer of God”, who has aptly demonstrated nothing but his disdain for the scripture and whatever the Word of God stands for. Tithing may be an unpalatable practice for unbelievers but God in His infinite wisdom ordained it and the fact that men have abused it does not in any way remove its significance in the economy of God.

In an attempt to discourage the practice in Christian circles the writer made copious references to the Bible and if he had stayed on this course he would not have exposed his inability to embark on either direct interpretation or deductive reasoning. It is in this light that I question his attempt at mis-educating people on an issue as basic in Christianity as tithing. In simple language tithing is the giving of a tenth of a person’s income to God and His works. Apparently God will not come down to collect such benevolence but it is the men who are labouring for Him who do that on His behalf and whatever misdeeds they perpetrate is their own cross to bear. It is therefore unquestionable that Tithing is a form of worship/service to the Lord.

It is pertinent to mention that this practice was established as a means of instructing the Israelites to support the tribe of Levi who were consecrated to the service of God and were therefore prevented from owning businesses, lands, farms etc and those who were less privileged within the society. In actual fact the Bible records that the Levites’ own inheritance was distributed to others when Joshua was dividing the land of Israel after the entry into the “land flowing with milk and honey”. As the writer rightly quoted, Numbers 18:26 says “Thus speak unto the Levites, and say unto them, When ye take of the children of Israel the tithes which I have given you from them for your inheritance, then ye shall offer up an heave offering of it for the LORD, even a tenth part of the tithe”. Doesn’t it state clearly here that they were expected to pay a tenth of the tithe they had collected? Funnily the writer’s version of the Bible did not record earlier in Numbers 18:24 that, “But the tithes of the children of Israel, which they offer as an heave offering unto the LORD, I have given to the Levites to inherit: therefore I have said unto them, Among the children of Israel they shall have no inheritance”. The import of this is that the Levites, just like other Israelites were mandated to pay tithes. Therefore, their not having a vocation was not excusing them from this sacred duty. This is why churches nowadays pay tithes of their tithes to other churches or other causes, if the leaders understand Biblical authority. If this service had been restricted to the Levites, why did the Bible record in 2Chronicles 31:5 “And as soon as the commandment came abroad, the children of Israel brought in abundance the firstfruits of corn, wine, and oil, and honey, and of all the increase of the field; and the tithe of all things brought they in abundantly”? It is also recorded in Nehemiah 13:12 “Then brought all Judah the tithe of the corn and the new wine and the oil unto the treasuries”. The emphasis is clear otherwise God would not have said in Le 27:30, “And all the tithe of the land, whether of the seed of the land, or of the fruit of the tree, is the LORD'S: it is holy unto the LORD”. Readers can also read other references in Deut. 14:28, 2Chro 31:6, Nehemiah 10:38.

It is therefore apparent that tithing was a form of “social security” for those who are jobless and disadvantaged in the society and for the advancement of the work of God as clearly stated in Deuteronomy 26:12, “When thou hast made an end of tithing all the tithes of thine increase the third year, which is the year of tithing, and hast given it unto the Levite, the stranger, the fatherless, and the widow, that they may eat within thy gates, and be filled”. This is why I hold to the belief that those countries where there are provisions for the jobless and disabled borrowed this virtue from their Christian roots and the proliferation of such practices has led to the enormous blessings they have received.

The writer asserted that tithing was dug out of the Old Testament as a way of hoodwinking people to give more for the Pastors. Heavens will test everyman’s work on the day of judgement but another man’s disobedience must not be the foundation for disobedience in any life hence the need for unqualified obedience to the Lord. I am not a Pastor but I am sure that all Pastors and lay church members will give account of what they have done with the word of God. My own place is not to apportion unto them the reward that God Himself will rightly grant them on the last day. My own duty is obedience to my calling as a disciple. This is why a true disciple must go beyond giving a tenth just as the writer mentioned. God is looking for those who are ready to give their all, including their lives but He demonstrated this first by giving the only Son He has. Jesus on His own part willingly gave His life for us and that is why I hold to the belief that a man who has given a tenth has just begun on the journey of obedience. The Bible enjoins everyone to be like the Berean Christians who were only willing to accept a doctrine after they have truly read the scriptures and received a conviction. Let everyone go and do likewise but I will end my write-up with a quote from Daniel 12: 10 "Many shall be purified, made white, and refined, but the wicked shall do wickedly; and none of the wicked shall understand, but the wise shall understand”.
TV/MoviesCensors Board Suspends Gay Movie by shadrach77(op): 4:04pm On Jul 21, 2010
An American gay movie which was supposed to premiere last Friday at the Silverbird Cinemas in Lagos, South West Nigeria, was stopped from being shown by the National Film and Video Censors Board, NFVCB, regulators of the film and video industry in the country.

•A scene from the suspended gay movie

The movie, I Love You Phillip Morris, which stars U.S. top actor, Jim Carrey, was postponed four times in the United States before it was finally released in May 2010, two years after it was filmed.

In the semi-gay movie described as obnoxious by European audience, Jim Carrey plays a gay con man who falls in love with his prison cellmate, Ewan McGregor.

P.M.NEWS observed last Friday that I Love You Phillip Morris was already listed by Silverbird Cinemas and was to be shown in the afternoon when it was suddenly cancelled.

An enraged movie-goer who had come to the Silverbird Galleria in Victoria Island to watch the gay movie was seen yelling at the Silverbird staff who could not explain why the movie was suddenly withdrawn.

“Is it because it is about homosexuality?” he asked, adding “you should remove it from your website then.”

The Censors Board’s Zonal Director in the South West, Mr. Edward Edion, who spoke with P.M.NEWS on phone yesterday, confirmed the story but denied reports that the movie was banned outright.

According to him, the movie was stopped from being shown last Friday because it had not been properly classified.

“During our screening, we discovered that there was a scene that had to do with homosexuality and as such it was not okay for every member of the public to watch it. That was why we stopped the movie from being shown to enable us reclassify it.

“After its proper classification and with the final decision by our headquarters in Abuja, we’ll know the next step to take,” he said.

Edion, however, disclosed that the previews of the movie were allowed on air because of a special concession given to movie distributors such as Silverbird, Ozone and few others.

He said: “Nigeria is suffering today because movies are made mainly as home videos while the money, all over the world, is in the theatres. That is why we are encouraging even the local movie producers to take their movies to the theatres.”

Written by Bad Santa screenwriters Glenn Ficarra and John Requa, the film is a dark comedy based on the true story of Steven Jay Russell (Carrey) who gets sent to prison for insurance fraud, and subsequently falls in love with his cellmate (McGregor).

The movie was first released in Europe and Taiwan. With straight actors playing gay roles being such a trend, the film struggled for years to find its place in U.S. theatres. The movie was to be released in the U.S. by Consolidated Pictures Group. It was filmed in 2008 and was screened at Sundance Film Festival on 18 January 2009.

The following countries and cities have already released the movie: France, Monaco, Russia, Taiwan, Belgium, Luxembourg, Finland, Sweden, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Kazakhstan, Japan, United Kingdom, Ireland, Philippines, Czech Republic, Romania, Iceland, Italy and recently it premiered in Norway.

Lady Causes Stir, Says Commissioner Impregnated Her

| Print | E-mail

Written by Johnson Babajide, Lokoja Saturday, 17 July 2010

THERE was a mild drama in Lokoja, Kogi State, during the week at the venue of a seminar for information officers and traditional rulers when a commissioner was roughhandled by a lady who claimed that she was impregnated and abandoned by him.

The lady apparently got wind of the commissioner’s presence at the venue of the seminar and came with her baby and a friend who held the baby for her so that she could be free to vent her anger on the commissioner.

Oblivious of the lady’s presence, the commissioner declared the seminar open and after every other formality, made for the exit of the venue when the lady came out of her hiding place and held his outfit.

Baffled and embarrassed by the sudden turn of events, the commissioner tried to break free, but the lady held him tighter, pouring all sorts of abuse on him, shouting on top of her voice and telling onlookers how the commissioner impregnated and abandoned her and her baby.

Aides and friends of the commissioner, however, saved him from further embarrassment as he was quickly ushered into his vehicle which zoomed off.

While trying to escape, the lady, still shouting on top of her voice, threw all sorts of objects in sight at his car, vowing to continue to harass him at every official and unofficial venues till he took responsibility of the baby she had for him.
