I just downloaded Piggyvest and checked their Flex dollars option. Here are my findings:

You will buy the dollars at 480 Naira and sell at 460 Naira.

If you intend to save 200k for instance, the dollar value will be $416.66.

If you decide to get your cash back in Naira, you will sell at 460 Naira. You will be getting 191,663.6 Naira back. That's a loss of over 8k.

But if you intend to save for a year without withdrawal, you will get a 7% ROI on your $416.66 which will give a total returns of $445.82 ($29.16 interest + $416.66). In Naira, you will be getting 205,080.052 Naira (@ 460 sell rate). That's a 5k profit after a year. But if you Naira depreciate, which is likely, u will be getting more.

Though risky, but it provides good cover against Nigeria's ever increasing inflation rate and Naira depreciation. I don't see any policy to drive down the exchange rate in the offing. But I still think the 20 Naira difference between the Buy and Sell rate is too much and not really encouraging.

Due to the unstable nature of Naira and Nigeria's unpredictable political future, I have been searching for ways to convert all or 80% of my Savings to Dollars. Going through the banks is a No-No for reasons best known to all. I searched the internet for possible solutions and I came across Piggyvest Flex Dollars Savings and investment. I have gone through their website and read through their offerings and promises and I can say they are interesting. They even claimed that funds are insured and they are licensed Microfinance bank. I will appreciate an objective review of their claims by professionals here and long-standing customers. How well and how true are funds insured from bureaucratic and governmental fallouts?

Car TalkRecommend Competent Mechanics And Rewires You Know by Sharmeenator(op): 9:49pm On Feb 02, 2021
Greetings to everyone! I have been an avid reader and follower of this section for years and I have gotten a great deal of knowledge over the years. Kudos to all the professionals in the house by the way! If I can speak for the average car owners, one of the biggest challenges is finding a good competent mechanic and rewire.

All around us are "Kazeems" (Road-side Mechanics) who to be honest can be really helpful and dreadful at the same time. Majority have fallen victims to these guys and more will still fall. Getting a moderately priced professional mechanic who is knowledgeable and fully setup with the right gadgets is truly difficult. Over the years I have tried to get my cars properly looked after by a competent professional but I couldn't find any around me who would accept me for who I am. I went to Honda Place couple of times but ran off without looking back.

When my former car, a Honda Accord Baby boy was developing a persistent mechanical issue then, I called a popular professional here, but he told me point-blank that he doesn't do cars older than 2002. I upgraded to a 2003 Civic about 3 years ago, I called him recently to book an appointment, but he declined saying he doesn't work on Cars older than 2010 and wouldn't recommend anyone that does. To be candid, he has every right to set standards for himself and I truly respect that. In lieu of that, I implore any professional reading this that we all want to use the latest rides, unfortunately the economic situation of this country is not helping. You guys should accommodate we older cars users in your planning.

I urge everyone here who has contacts of really good professional mechanics and rewire with the right diagnostic tools to kindly use this medium to recommend. I also urge the professionals here too to use this thread to tell the public where to find them or share their contacts so we can patronize.
TV/MoviesRe: Multichoice Announces Price Slash On Dstv, Gotv Decoders by Sharmeenator(m):
I followed this thread from page 1, yet no one explain in concise terms what an IPTV is and how it works across all TVs and devices. Here I will explain to the best of my ability.

IPTV is not an app. Internet Protocol Television (IPTV) refers to applications that enable you watch contents streamed from the internet. Examples of IPTV apps are Netflix, Showmax, Mobdro TV, etc.

To switch to IPTV, you will need a Smart TV or an Android box; a device like decoder that can be connected to your non-smart tv. It has memory like phones and it works like an Android phone. You can download and install apps from Google play store in it.

There are tons of free and paid IPTV apps. You can download and install many of the FREE ones on android box unlike on Non-android Smart TV like Samsung appstore for Samsung Smart TVs.

Is it cheaper?
Cheap here is relative. I will use myself as an example. I have a Samsung smart tv, Spectranet router modem, netflix account and DSTV decoder. I do the family or Yanga plan depending on the month. I use Spectranet because it is fast in my area. I subscribe to the 10.2k plan monthly. I do Netflix some months and only watch between the hour of 1am to 8am because Spectranet data cap is unlimited between those hours. Cobranet, IPNX and co don't have coverage in my area so I can't do any fibre optic data subscription.

DSTV is cheaper for me and IPTV will cost way more to me if I were to switch. But for someone whose location has good fibre optic coverage and who's doing DSTV premium, switching to IPTV on android box or Android Smart TV and subscribing to a fibre optic plan below 15k will be cheaper.

What is wrong with this OP and his likes? We are talking about serious insecurities and gloomy future that have bedeviled us as a country, you and your likes are more concerned about Tinubu's presidency. What did we the Yorubas benefited from Obasanjo's presidency? What benefit was Former President Jonathan's presidency to the people of the Niger Delta and the South at large? Past antecedents have proven that these guys care less about the average electors, they only serve their selfish interests and that of the few in there circles. Instead of seeking for the best brains among us irrespective of tribe, religion or gender to take over the mantle of leadership and help us out of these Quagmire, some of you are hellbent on forcing on us the same old politicians responsible for our woes. Shame on all of you! No price is worth this deservice to humanity.
Car TalkRe: Mention Any Car Issues You Are Currently Experiencing And We'll Help You Solve I by Sharmeenator(m): 12:55am On Jan 21, 2021
My car is a 2003 Honda Civic, 4 plugs automatic.

Bought it as Naija used close to 3 years ago without major issues except the AC. I was told the AC system had virus which I fixed last year. I had to change almost all the AC systems except the inner dashboard condenser and a vacuum device to take the power off the engine was in it installed. I had series of ON and OFF issues with the AC from leaking condenser, to not cooling well, to car shaking when the AC is working which have all been put under checks.

3 days back, I went out for an appointment with my car with the AC ON, very little traffic and we got to there with no issue. While returning after about an hour stay, I ran into a heavy traffic. Just shortly into the traffic, my car became sluggish. If I slow down, I will need to press hard on the throttle to move. I turned off the AC immediately I noticed it. This went up till we left the traffic. At times it got so worse that I would have to press real hard on the accelerator before the car would move. It was the same symptoms I had last year September/October when the transmission failed. I was scared shit but decided to manage the car to my mechanic place which wasn't far.

It moved better if I didn't hit the brake. I got to a point, I decide to restart the engine. I turned it off and turn it back ON (without the AC of course) within seconds and all was Ok, it was as if nothing just happened. Got to the mechanic place with the car moving fine and explained all to him. He was equally surprised and dumbfounded. My regret was not driving it there in that condition as earlier planned. He checked the car and ruled out transmission issue as the gear was changing fine. We had to put on the AC and it worked well without issue for minutes if not an hour. He checked the fuel pump and filter for clog and found no issue.

We don't know exactly what went wrong and that wasn't the first time nor the second time. All happened when the AC was working and if I turn off the AC, car would go back to normal, except on that fateful day. We had thought it was because of the bad Alternator then which was later replaced. I really don't know what to do or call it now. I will appreciate any help and advise.

Yes I'm still driving it. I have travelled to the east and south-south with it on 2 occasions. Though I changed the transmission last year October. I learnt the former owner used a bad transmission fluid and I continued the bad culture using Honda Z1 which had been long discontinued but I didn't know until it was too late.

My brother don't be too soft on your kid. My 2years + kid too loves PJ Mask and can watch it overnight if allowed. In my home, I have a Desktop computer and kid tablet where I put all her favorite cartoons. We put either one ON when we are watching programs on TV and I ensure I put them off latest 9pm and force her to sleep.

Initially, it was difficult as she would cry her eyes out to blackmail us into letting her continue but I won't budge. My rule is no TV or computer or tablet after 9pm for her and she's gotten used to it. She no longer cry when it's time. She would even say dad time to sleep.

I think it's too early to start criticising the fares and travel time. Let's give it time. Once more stations are fully activated and the rail lines fully optimised, with more coaches coming on stream, the travel time and fares would reduce, hopefully.

There is a dirty power play by some politicians who saw a window of opportunity to go all out against Tinubu. They are pitching the Igbos against the Yoruba's because they know that a southern unity will end their games and agenda.
SalamRushdie:
The cabal suspected Tinubu staged and sponsored the endsars protest especially the one at the toll gate , they used Miyetti Allah to accuse Tinubu , Tinubu panicked and tried shut down the protest , Soldiers that came to scare protesters fired into the Air and many of the bullets fell down injuring many ...within hours the powers that be decided to clip Tinubus wing once and for all and they first burnt the Lekki link bridge toll gate , attempted to burn Oriental hotel , went after Primero Bus company , went after TVC , went after the Nation ...Tinubu scared that they might go after his life Boards a jet and travels ..Now the same forces have unleashed their Army of Internet warriors based in Kaduna to push a narrative that will pitch Yoruba vs Igbo

My heart-felt condolences to all the lives lost in the Lekki massacre and other parts of Lagos state and the country at large. No doubt tempers are high, uncertainties abound, but we must sit and think deep about all that's happening across the country, especially Lagos state and properly evaluate our actions and reactions. Even though this started as a peaceful protest to end police brutality, today the protest has been evidently hijacked by hoodlums and politicians firing shots behind the scene.

The lekki massacre and the shooting of unarmed protesters are really dark marks in our history. These events must be prevented from reoccurring and perpetrators brought to book. With so many accusations and denials flying around, I implore the youths to think deeply and demand for answers.

Why is all the blame going to Tinubu?
What is the proof that Tinubu ordered the CCTV cameras removed?
Where is the proof that Tinubu ordered the lights taken out?
What is the proof that Tinubu ordered or requested the soldiers who came to carry out the carnage?
Who gave the matching order to shoot the protesters?
Is Tinubu the chief of staff or the Grand Commander of the Armed Forces?
Why do we suddenly blame him for everything?
Is he the only politician in Lagos or the South or Nigeria?
Why are we singly him out then?

Alade market in Somolu, Lagos City hall, BRT buses and terminals, VIO/FRSC office burnt are public infrastructures not part of Tinubu's private properties.

TVC station and The Nation newspapers burnt down employ thousands of direct and indirect labour which are mostly filled by Nigerians across different tribes who have now been rendered jobless, thus added to the ever increasing unemployment list. Do we even consider this fact?

In as much as we (myself inclusive) dislike the man Tinubu for whatever he represents, we should be logical and not be willing tools in this mindless political game being orchestrated from the dark to further create chaos and distract us.

Car TalkTransmission Issue In My Honda Civic 03 by Sharmeenator(op):
I drive a 2003 Honda Civic which I got as a naija used in 2018. If I'm driving, I feel a kind of pull in the wheel, like something is dragging the car, although it happened so quickly. When it first happened, I thought it was my bad master brake which I was managing before due to finance issue.

Few days ago while returning from work, I was held in traffic. Cars were turning back to follow an alternative route, so i decided to follow suite. While turning, all of a sudden, reversing was so difficult, i had to throttle hard before i could reverse and turn the car successfully. Going further was difficult too, i hard pressed on the accelerator before i could get to my Mechanic's shop not far away. He called a gear specialist the following day who checked the car and claimed to have fixed something from under the gear. I asked him what it was, he said sensor and one other thing I can't remember. I changed the bad master brake and fuel pump same day.

While leaving the mechanic shop 2 days after, it was a smooth ride until I entered a small traffic. I felt the same symptom while I was trying to move in the traffic. I had to step on the throttle before I could climb a small hill and eventually came to a halt. After the engine cooled down, I drove it back to the mechanic shop, this time without issue. They checked again and concluded I either have to change the gear oil or fix the gear or even get new transmission. I managed it home from there.

Yesterday, i thought it would be wise to try to drive it again and see if it would be better. I drove more than 10km successfully until it happened again. This time it was worse. I was far from home so I turned back after the car cooled down. This time waiting for it to cool didn't matter, it came to a complete halt. I restarted several times but nothing changed. We had to push it to a safe place while I think on how to tow it back home.

Finance is low now, I'm not prepared for this at all. Can the gear be fix without changing it? I won't mind one or two tips from car experts here. Please help a brother, e no easy! grin

FamilyRe: Why Do Men Lose Interest In Their Wives After Few Years In Marriage? by Sharmeenator(m): 10:00pm On May 23, 2020
Stillthebest:
Very correct but there are still alot;
The wife stops Glowing, refuses to use fragrance thus smell bad, makes home to look tattered , series of corrections that are not adhered to, stop dressing well, always on stupid dresses at home rather than the bum shorts, adding Weight while losing shape because of excess eating, looking unkept in the names of motherhood.

Lack of vacations, lack of romance over time, body odours and mouth odours.
Constant unnecessary quarrels. Making the home to look tattered.

Note* this goes both ways!

Lack of respect from the woman(women who enjoy marriage see their husbands as role models and that husband will turn around to worship her) men are the most stupid sex if properly pampered.

Above all, no man that has gone out since morning and came back home with nothing would be loving, romantic or still have interest in himself let alone his wife.

Being 'broke' for long can cause it.

Disclaimer: Money isnt the main thing that keeps interest in marriage intact but true love. Where there's true love, money will find that place one way or the other.
The bolded is the real reason. A man can still cheat on the low without disrespecting you. But give a man a deserving respect and pampering, you will get the best out of him. He might still cheat, but you will be a jewel he would admire for the rest of his life. Women need to understand this. A man needs pampering and respect, not just sex or being a good home maker

Thanks for that piece OP
