I guess you don't believe anything good can come out of Nigeria, wonder how you expect the world to view Nigeria.

mfm04622: I have checked out the app. Why does it need access to my contact and full Internet access to work?
The app allows you block texts from your contacts also, hence the need to access the contact list, then it needs the internet to suggest spam numbers and update the spam database to keep you protected, just like a typical antivirus would.

It does NOT collect any personal data, so you have nothing to fear.
PhonesRe: Annoying Messages Sent By Telecom Service Providers by Shimao(m):
The situation is really terrible and drove me nuts. Searched for an app to block these messages but could not find one that was truly free and made for the Nigerian environment. So I decided to develop one. It's called Spam Trap and it's now available in BlackBerry app world and Google Play for FREE.

Just download and install. that's all. It blocks messages based on numbers and content. It determines your network and suggest spam numbers and content to you on your network. Just accept the suggestions. It also has the ability to sense potential spam messages from numbers not yet listed and keeps you updated on new spam sources based on your settings. More still, it gives you protection across all networks, switch your network and your spam database will be updated so that as long as you are within Nigeria's 923,768 sq km, you are protected.

It's already gone through beta testing and very stable. Download now and thank me later. It's free and incredibly simple to use.

Works on BlackBerry OS 5 and above and on Android 2.33 and above.

When you download, please do not forget to review. Thanks.

ProgrammingRe: Text-blinking With Java by Shimao(m): 6:25am On Aug 01, 2013
You have to repeatedly set and clear the text at short intervals. You'll have to do that on a separate thread that updates the event dispatch thread. Use a javax.swing.Timer object. You'll pass an ActionListener instance which encapsulates your logic.

You need to be sure your code isn't in an infinite loop.
ProgrammingRe: How Can I Add A Time Stamp To My Gui by Shimao(m): 12:21am On Jan 24, 2013
Your task is made up of 2 parts; a way to execute a recurrent activity and a way to format and update a display.

For the 1st part you have 2 options. You could implement the Runnable interface where you set up a loop bounded by the total time limit in seconds and have the thread sleep repeatedly for 1 second only to wake up each time to update a time spent counter and update the display. You may need to write formatting code to convert the time spent in seconds to desired representational string then update a JLabel. Remember, you need to execute the update on the event dispatch thread since you will be on a separate thread. Use javax.swing.SwingUtilities.invokeLater to schedule the update on the event dispatch thread.

Alternatively, you could look at the javax.swing.Timer class which allows you execute recurrent activities at predefined intervals. All you need to do is specify a time interval and implement and register an ActionListener to receive time expiration events and perform updates on the time spent counter and display as above but without the hassles of ensuring thread safety as the class is already thread safe.

You should go with option 2.

HealthRe: Pregnant Woman Dies In Port-harcourt Hospital Because Of Deposit by Shimao(m): 6:05pm On Dec 02, 2012
Such a sad story but the truth is it will happen again if we don't start asking the right questions starting with "who should fund health care?" Because it was the apparent lack of funds that prevented the woman from accessing prompt treatment that could probably have saved her life.

It is agreed all around the world that out-of-pocket payment, as in this case, is NOT a desirable health care funding option, because believe it or not, emergencies can happen anywhere and anytime and having the funds somewhere else at the time it is needed, wouldn't do, especially in a private hospital! That's why sensible governments provide on-demand basic and emergency services for her people without need for instant payment. Do we have any of such over here? Are our hospitals even places one can run to or why do our leaders always jet out at the slightest symptom of ill-health?

No doctor likes to see patients die, forget the straight faces when breaking the news, doctors nurse the sad memories of every patient they loose but could have saved. But being a doctor isn't a genetically determined role like a soldier termite, its not even a calling (that's a personal conclusion) because anyone can be trained to be a doctor. Doctors are professionals, offering services that must be paid for like the consumed services doctors pay for too! Running a hospital is no joke and most owners offer some kind of free services on a regular basis, but there's a limit they can go.

I do not want to apportion blame, rather, I'm about how to prevent a repeat.
ProgrammingRe: Help (wrap Text In J2ME & Scroll Vertically) by Shimao(m): 3:33pm On Nov 26, 2012
You'll have to divide the long string into multiple lines based on how much the canvas width can take, then individually draw the lines on the canvas. Typically, you'll hold the lines in a vector. As for the scrolling part, you need to determine how many lines the canvas can display at a go, and use index shifting to determine what segment of the vector holding the lines should be drawn at any point. You could implement a line shifting or page shifting scrolling mechanism.

Check out this, it solves part 1, part 2 isn't that difficult.

CareerRe: ICT Or Medicine: I Need Advice by Shimao(m): 1:33pm On Jun 10, 2012
I was faced with a similar problem about 10 years ago and I chose medicine. However, it did not stop me from exploring ICT; I had to find a way to combine the two. But I must say, it wasn't that easy particularly when you're learning by yourself. Got my SCJP mid-way into medical school which was followed by some other certifications. Currently work as a doctor but program in my spare time and have a number of apps to my name. ICT is more like a hobby now but considering making it fulltime. So it all depends on your capacity and how much you're willing to give. If you must choose one, since you'll be studying outside the country, go for MEDICINE, you wont regret it. Medicine is a very long journey of largely no-return and can be frustrating over here. But make no mistakes, ICT is equally as challenging.
ProgrammingRe: Some One Should Help Me With This Windowing Issue by Shimao(m): 10:39am On Aug 17, 2011
Add the components you want to toggle their visibility to an intermediate container like a JPanel. Add this JPanel to your main window then set its visibility to false. Call on the pack() method of your top level container. Toggle the visibility of that JPanel in your event listener and invoke the pack() method and your top level container will adjust to display or undisplay your components.
ProgrammingRe: Some One Should Help Me With This Windowing Issue by Shimao(m): 7:16pm On Aug 16, 2011
Interface design can be a bother at times. For your first question, you can leave it to a layout manager to do or programmatically adjust the size of the main container. All layout manager resize by default, just make the component in question invisible and have the layout revalidated. But for more precise control, check out the sizing methods. To your second question, printing in java is quite cumbersome. But I think what you need reporting capability and you might like to check out JasperReports for this although othere reporting frameworks exists.

ProgrammingRe: Java Coding Challenge: Task Scheduler by Shimao(m): 3:44pm On Aug 04, 2011
I agree its trivial, but I believe thats what Candylips is trying to point out. Even though a programming challenge, how it is approached at first thought gives an idea about object orientation of the person. No offense intended.
ProgrammingRe: Java Coding Challenge: Task Scheduler by Shimao(m): 12:01pm On Aug 04, 2011
@Candylips, my sentiments exactly. Though a nice try, his task is tightly coupled to the scheduling system which makes is difficult to reuse say in an EJB or a custom scheduling framework. Essentially, the task should be modular and oblivious of the scheduling system. More so, a part of his code depends on proper usage by the user which can never be guaranteed. I would expect state checking to ensure that an possibly an IllegalStateException thrown. Good try though.

Early age of consent, divorced from marriage; idea of no pre-marital sex is officially buried. I guess people are getting rather#honey# these days. Both early debut and early marriage is bad. Women, though achieve puberty earlier than guys, are never emotionally mature to handle sexual issues until early adulthood, say 21 years. And why no discussion about guys?

Jonathan is a president that never should have been. But cos of an inordinate and desperate desire to become president, he bought his way to Aso rock, making so many compromises and stepping on so many toes while selling the stinkiest bullshit to an electorate blinded by ethnic and religious prejudices in an election accepted by an international community that wants a puppet to keep. It's now platitudinous to say he's clueless. The presidency is million of miles way above what he can handle.

Its neither brute force or heuristic, its in between, sort of a metaheuristic. Like Fayimora said, its efficiency depends on you coming up with a test the quickly determines if a path can lead to a solution.
