In response to your question (as a true Nigerian who answers questions with questions ):What is the essence of love? Love is a feeling that you have for someone where you wouldn't want to hold anything against that person. When someone accuses that person (and rightfully, sometimes), you would argue and say everything to defend that person. When the person hurts you (several times even), you will easily forgive the person (each time) because of the feeling you have for that person. You will not want to say or do anything to hurt that person. Of course, this is quite difficult to comprehend and may be considered foolish, but hey, that's the point of love. |
I don't know what's so interesting in other people's text messages ![]() But seriously, I wouldn't bother "checking" my partner's (if I had one) phone for any reason, whatsoever, except she just bought a new handset and in that case, I'd just want to toy around/play with it. Or if I come across some text messages, I just tease her about it. Simply put, relationships require trust. Trust requires you not to be suspicious about anything, and it is only broken when one party is caught betraying the trust. |
Seun:The exact reason I don't use Yahoo... well, Yahoo Mail, to be precise. |
I greet you! ![]() Welcome to Nairaland. Are you single and availa... Never mind. |
Why would you let so much good food pass by? I mean, come on, "good" food is good. I'll definitely attend the wedding [reception], eat as much "good" food as possible, congratulate the couple, and move on with my life. |
Well, no not at all. Nigeria still has a long way to go. As for sites, most times, when I come across Nigerian sites, I just laugh my ass off and close my browser window. There are only a few that are actually very impressive, but then again some of them tend to make use of "too much" Flash, which I consider to be a resource/bandwidth hog. |
Why Yahoo 360 when there's Blogger? http://www.blogger.com/ Blogger is run by Google ![]() Oh, yeah, Yahoo! just started offering 1GB of storage since early May. |
With Starcomms, you get between 6 to 9 kiloBytes per second on average. Same with Intercellular. Plus Nigeria is way behind when it comes to Internet connections. I don't even want to get started on this. |
Feh! Forget about the friggin satellite! I need 24 hours of power supply in my house. |

It's fiction... But you have to be careful with what you feed kids with at a young age. |
"PS3 is not a gaming machine" 'nuff said. |
You know the problem with most "free" online dating sites? I actually know guys who pose as girls. Why? To get money from people who fall for their cunning tricks. Aside from that, online dating is probably a good thing. If you're too shy to actually approach a girl irl, then it's easier to do that online. You chat and get acquainted, get to know more about each other, arrange to meet, and see what happens from there on. |
Niggy: Since you're looking to try out other OSes, you might want to take a look at one of the BSD variants. FreeBSD http://www.freebsd.org/ NetBSD http://www.netbsd.org/ OpenBSD http://www.openbsd.org/ They're also UNIX-based and you can download the ISOs. NetBSD is particularly notable for the fact that it can run on almost any platform. |
IAH:Well, I'm using C++, not Java. Windows executables don't run on Linux and vice versa. You have to take your code and compile separate executables for Windows and Linux. Then comes testing and debugging on both OSes... I'll be using the Simple Directmedia Layer (SDL) to handle window management stuff along with OpenGL (for graphics), and some other SDL libraries (audio, images, network code) because it's cross-platform. I'm quite impressed by your knowledge of these things. How comes? Haven't come across any Nigerian women with knowledge of such... In other words, I like you already. Heh. |
What?! Just what?! What the hell?! What kind of theory is that? That's just weird... Wealth isn't a necessity. It is not essential to life. As long as you are able to sustain yourself comfortably, you are ok. |
Well, if I intend to develop a 3D first person shooter, as my first project, then later on, 2D/3D role-playing games. As for MacOS, you definitely have to purchase it. And it only runs on Apple computers which are a tad too expensive compared to normal x86/IBM-compatible clones as far as I'm concerned ![]() |
Most guys are insensitive jerks... I'd highly recommend that you shouldn't fall in love with anyone, for any reason whatsoever until you've discovered what kind of person s/he is, and you've spent a lot of time together. Of course, some people blindly fall in love, which I consider risky. The thing is, you have to be logical and realistic, not foolish. |
I'd hate to break it to you, but, you'll never get asked out by a girl. You have got to make the move. The worst that you could ever get told is "No". Look at it this way: You're interested in a girl. She may or may not be interested in you. If you never ask her, you'll never find out if she is interested in you. If you ask her, you get to find out if she is or if she's not. If she is, well, good for you. If she isn't, you'll have to move on. Really, asking a girl doesn't require much effort. I'll admit I'm a shy guy (mostly because I wouldn't like to be told no), but sometimes, you just have to summon courage from nowhere and deal with the rejection, never. Yes, that's right, just forget about the rejection and move on to the next available girl. |
I use Linux and Windows equally. Windows mainly for gaming, Linux for movies, music, multimedia, development and such. I'm into game development (learning process), and the major reason I use both OSes is to be able to develop cross-platform games. I started with Slackware Linux, then I went on to try Vector Linux (which is Slackware-based) and Ubuntu (debian-based) just for a change. Vector Linux is small, fast and light-weight and it was basically designed to bring older systems back to life (486-esque), that kind of thing. So basically, no bloat and such-like. The thing about most distributions now is that they include a lot of "crap" that you don't need. Anytime I find a distro whose ISOs span more than one CD (as I have to download an ISO over a 64k connection, which isn't fun), I just decide to forget about it. Additionally, I have a SuSE 9.1 Pro DVD lying around somewhere though, I haven't tried it yet. I also got Ubuntu 4.10 CDs free, but I then proceeded to download and install the 5.04 release (about 586MB), since I was impressed, and I'm still impressed. Automatic hardware detection is sweet with these distros! I would recommend Ubuntu as a distro for any newbie who doesn't have much time to learn just about everything about Linux. The thing about Linux is that you don't have to pirate software (this is a very serious issue in Nigeria). Most people don't even know that piracy is illegal. Also, Linux is best suited as a server environment. You can customise it to suit your needs instead of having to put up with what you don't need hogging up system resources and memory. Linux comes with all the development tools you can ever need, free! Except for the IDEs which aren't as good/polished as Microsoft Visual Studio. I can confidently tell you today that there's no better IDE than Microsoft Visual Studio. People think Linux is difficult to learn because they are lazy. They've been spoilt with Windows' vanilla user interface. Plus they don't like to read, but they want everything to be done for them. With a bit of Googling and such, you'd be able to get good guides on how to use Linux, console commands, etc. There's an infinite (well, something like that) amount of documentation on the Internet. Well, for those of us who started with MS-DOS, it wasn't much of a problem ![]() Just my 2 cents... |
