BusinessRe: On Ebay: How to Prevent a Scammer From Bidding On My Auction? by shockreaction(m): 5:00pm On Oct 11, 2005
First of all, just out of curiousity, why have you decided not to post to Nigeria? What kind of item is it?

That aside, there's really no way to prevent someone from bidding on your item. When you list an item, you should let it go for as long as possible, and don't provide a "Buy It Now" option. This way, it's possible for someone else to place a bid on the item while the auction is still open. The downside to this is that the so-called "scammer" could place the highest bid at the last minute...

You, my friend, are being stalked grin
Run for your life!

But seriously, you've got nothing to lose if you show some interest, so I'd say, go for it.
RomanceRe: Why Do Some Men Ask For Your Number But Don't Call? by shockreaction(m): 4:24pm On Oct 11, 2005
Well, there's this thing called buffer time... the appropriate time to allow before you call a girl whose number you just got.
If you call too early, she might take you for granted.
If you call too late, she might think you've lost interested.
So, it's all a matter of figuring out the right time to call.

Of course, this may not always be the case ^_^

RomanceRe: What if Your Boyfriend Beats You A Lot? by shockreaction(m): 11:46am On Oct 06, 2005
Lol... I remember someone (a female friend) whose boyfriend occassionally beat her. I asked her why she wouldn't leave him? She said it's because he loves her. To this day, that still makes me laugh, I pee in my pants. Ok, maybe not, but you get the idea.

I'd recommend that you leave him, immediately. No questions asked, no reconciliations, nothing. He's not worth it.
RomanceRe: Why Would A Man Hide His Female Friends From His Girlfriend? by shockreaction(m): 11:43am On Oct 06, 2005
Well... I wouldn't hide my female friends from my girlfriend. If she's got a problem with the way I deal with them, then she should talk to me about it, instead of getting jealous unnecessarily. Coommunication is essential in a relationship. Women should, at least, try to be reasonable.

ProgrammingRe: PHP Editor: also supports other languages by shockreaction(m): 8:33pm On Sep 29, 2005
I've been using PHP Designer for quite a while now. It's pretty good. The user interface is quite similar to Dreamweaver, so I guess it'll be easy for someone who's conversant with Dreamweaver to adapt.

Plus I got it to work on my Linux box using Wine.

Gah! Seun beat me to it! I was just about to post MyNetCom, and the details... Yep, 75k for the equipment, cheapest monthly access for 24 hours at 100kbps is N6,000... which I believe is quite good. They're new, so they look to be quite good.

PhonesRe: Trouble with Nigerian Phone Numbers by shockreaction(m): 5:45pm On Sep 21, 2005
When you're dialling a number internationally, you have to remove the preceding zero after putting the country prefix. I believe this is an international standard or something. You could search for more info on this.

As for dialling a number in the same country, yes the zero is necessary.

angela k: But count me out, will prefer a black brother anytime, anyday.
From this, we can conclude that you have a problem with skin colour, if it's not black...

angela k: What annoys me is the fact that most decent black guys abroad end up dating/marrying white chicks. I mean what are the black chicks doing wrong that makes it so easy for the white chicks to take most of the marriageable black guys.
I don't get it... I honestly don't understand. A guy is at liberty to date/marry anyone he wants, regardless of skin colour. They're humans for crying out loud, no matter what their skin colour is! It's just a matter of who you connect/fall in love with.
Nairaland GeneralRe: Why Do People Hide Their Age? by shockreaction(m): 6:57pm On Sep 10, 2005
*hiss* Hypocrites! And they're the ones who say age is nothing but a number *shakes fist*

As a general rule of thumb, the older a woman is, the more difficult it is for her to reveal her age. grin
CelebritiesRe: Most Beautiful Hollywood Actresses by shockreaction(m): 9:59pm On Sep 05, 2005
Well, I wouldn't go with most beautiful, as it's quite difficult to choose... but yes, the actresses posted above are very goodlooking... 'cept for J. Lo though... I still don't think she's that, beautiful.

There's also Marsha Thomason! I wonder why no one's mentioned her yet...

HealthRe: Smoking in Public: Should It Be Banned? by shockreaction(m): 4:33pm On Aug 29, 2005
First of all, there is nothing in the Bible against smoking. I really don't understand why people consider smoking as a sin.

I think there are ethics as regards smoking. Like no one is meant to smoke where they see a sticker/sign that states No Smoking. Enforcing/banning smoking in public places, is like, restricting a peron's rights. Also, if you want to smoking to be banned, vehicles which expel smoke, sometimes in excessive amounts, should be banned as well. Apparently, there's more carbon monoxide poisoning coming from these vehicles' exhausts than from smokers.

Several people smoke for various reasons, e.g. if they're nervous, during cold weather... Of course, there are health implications, which I am sure they're aware of, but they still do it. They're free to do whatever they like with their lives since they've been warned. Other things we consume too can be quite detrimental to our health, too, like sugar, cholesterol (mostly in oily junk food), and some other substances which we eat/drink.

PS: I'm not a smoker.
