zetdee: Gbawe gbawe gbawe.. you always raise this Lucky Dube story as prove of the unfair hatred of Nigerian in South Africa, the context of the quote has been explained to you before but you still insist, which i understand. The people who shot lucky Dube was a Mozambique and Zimbabwean national.

"Just to set the record straight on the
this quote that is quoted without
being used in its full context.
When one of the killer was asked in
court if he didn't know that he was
shooting at Lucky Dube,he said No he
thought he was a Nigerian
drugdealer.Rossentenville is
notoriuolsy known for high
population of Nigerians who deals in
drugs.So the killers thought they
where robbing a drug dealer and
thought they will get lot of money
from him since they know that drug
dealers carries a lot of money on
them.
I don't think it was based on pure
hatred for Nigerians, they saw a flashy
car in the place that is notoriously
known for high drug trafficing mostly
run by Nigerians, they decided to rob
it thinking that the owner who is a
'drugdealer' will be carrying lot of
drugs cash on him,they demanded
money and he said he didn't have
and they started shooting at him."
The fact that they are presenting that particular fact - about intending to victimize a Nigerian, in the court, explains the way Nigerians are regarded there.

webdezzi: the MBit/sec and uptime is what counts. Really that can be achievable but in an environment like Nigeria?
everything, including cables, Servers, Aircons, etc coming into the country is of the lowest possible quality, all thanks to SON and other regulatory bodies
not to talk of Lagos being flood prone.

The cost of daily diesel usage alone will not let this compete with other nations' cost-wise.
the speed/uptime shouldn't be an issue here as there will be no need for the subscribers to route their traffic via a busy main one fibre optic cable. And as for Natural disaster, it is a whole different ball game to the disaster mentioned in the article. They are talking about technical error within the system leading to loss of data.
The cost of powering such project may not compete with that of other developed countries but will provide a far better option cost-wise to the "VPN via internet access" most small businesses are currently using.

This is a welcome developement for all small business wanting to have all their data centralized. It means small businesses like microfinance banks, chain retail stores, schools, hospitals, financial regulatory bodies, and many more don't need to have full internet connection to access their data hosted with Glo. It signifies a shorter distance to a small World Wide Web - just what small business whose targeted customers are Nigerians and west Africans under Glo's network need.
Politics › Glo Targets Corporate Clients With Managed Data Facility by Sibrah(op): 7:40am On Jun 26, 2013
GLOBACOM has set up a world-class Internet Data Centre in Lagos to provide co-location services, disaster recovery and dedicated hosting facilities to corporate clients in Nigeria and across West Africa.

The company has also announced plans to expand its existing data management platform by building another data centre that will be Nigeria’s Largest Iconic Data Centre, providing Tier 3 and Tier 4 enterprise data services from Abuja.

Meanwhile, the Minister of Culture and Tourism, Edem Duke, has described Globacom as the only Nigerian company that had identified with the aspiration of the ministry in the area of youth engagement and empowerment.

The new data centre will provide network-based services, applications, equipment and Cloud Services in a highly safe and secure environment with backed ups.

Globacom’s Corporate Chief Information Officer, Mr. Cesar Camara, who conducted ICT Editors round the new Lagos Internet Data Centre recently, said that most of the websites and servers of various Nigerian organisations were hosted elsewhere across the world in countries such as the United Kingdom and the United States of America due to unreliable power supply, insecurity and other challenges.

“This is why Globacom has stepped in to become one of the top players in the managed services industry across Nigeria and West Africa. We are leveraging on our existing telecoms infrastructure, Glo1 submarine cable, reliable power supply network, experienced manpower and experience in building state-of-the-art technologies for our existing voice and data telephony services,” he said.

Data Centres, especially the Tier 3 and Tier 4 categories, which provide the highest level of failure proof, redundant, secure and safe environment, fault tolerance, compartmentalisation and continuous cooling, are highly valued by most organisations because all mission-critical/real-time applications today depend on server uptimes.

“This makes our high capacity Data Centres highly sought after by all categories of businesses including Small and Medium Scale Enterprises (SMEs), Financial Institutions, Oil and Gas, Educationists, Hospitals and Telecoms Service Providers,” Camara said.

He explained that Glo’s Data Centre has achieved 99.99 per cent uptime for all its servers and systems because they are housed in a safe, fireproof and secure environment built to international standards with 24-hour power supply, Internet connectivity, data backup capacity and redundancy for all equipment.

Duke, at the weekend in Abuja at the Glo Slide & Bounce Concert said that the giant telecommunications outfit had contributed significantly to the promotion of arts and culture in the nation.

The minister who commended Globacom for its efforts at empowering the Nigerian youths, particularly the support the telecommunication outfit has given to the nation’s entertainment industry through the endorsement of artistes in the country, urged other corporate organizations to emulate Globacom.

“I am particularly happy to be here tonight and I must commend Globacom for organising this show for the entertainment of Abuja residents. By and large, Globacom has demonstrated that it is a truly indigenous company.

Politics › Insurgency: Nigerian Military Capture Boko Haram Leaders by Sibrah(op): 7:32am On Jun 26, 2013
The Nigeria Military on Tuesday announced a major breakthrough in their fight against insurgency ravaging the North.

A statement issued in Abuja by Brigadier General Chris Olukolade, Director of Defence Information, disclosed that troops deployed to Borno and Yobe have captured some notorious leaders Boko Haram, and recovered various weapons

Their names were however not revealed.

The statement, which was the report of a nine-member Defence Headquarters, Operational Assessment Team delegated by the Chief of Defence Staff, Admiral Ola Ibrahim, said the they visited troop locations in various parts of Borno and Yobe.
“The commanding officer narrated the conduct of the operation to rid the (Sambisa) forest of the insurgents who had made the location their sanctuary,” he said.

In addition to their capture, those arrested had provided useful intelligence for subsequent operations.

“The team was shown various weapons, including rockets and locally fabricated weapon accessories captured in the forest,” he said.
“Items recovered included a large number of Improvised Explosive Devices- making materials, laptops, mobile communication equipment used for shooting and posting online videos, as well as locally made rockets and rocket launchers.”

“Also, seized vehicles of different brands were shown to the team.

“Several vehicles destroyed by the terrorists as well as their tailoring equipment apparently used in producing fake uniforms were also shown to the team.’’

The defence spokesperson further noted that the said troops are on night and day patrols, to apprehend any terrorist who might be lurking around.

He added that, “The Chief of Defence Staff expressed satisfaction with the high level of successes so far recorded in the operation.

“He also thanked the troop for a job well-done, and urged members not rest on their oars, while assuring them of regular logistic support.”

President Goodluck Jonathan had declared a State of Emergency in Adamawa, Borno and Yobe states, following the high rate of attacks by terror groups operating in the North-east region.

emiye: Opon ino is way more than just textbooks.

I repeat the strength of the opon imo is in the conceptualisation, the internet facility is disabled, 24 hours access to textbooks and many other educational materials can not be compared to 2 hours access to textbooks and library in school based computer centres.
I don't get what you mean by conceptualization. Are you saying it cannot accept games, videos, and other form of entertainment that constitute distractions i.e it cannot be 'jailbroken'.

There is no offense in leaving some school the way they are until the funds to fix them become available. Atleast, he hasn't borrowed, so it is safe to say he is planning to reconstruct these schools as the funds come in and avoid paying interest.

salaksmana: I reside in Osun state, but I won't comment on the school's STATE until I see someone that resides here too, not those who copy links and search pictures up on Google. All I'll say for now is after 2.5 years Aregbe has borrowed more than Oyinlola who spent 7+years, don't forget Ajimobi hasn't borrow a dime and he's doing great with little or no NOISE.
Osun's borrowing under aregbe is still much more better than Oyinlola's admin. Aregbe has been borrowing to fund far more viable and profitable projects compared to Oyinlola's.

Osun is in huge debt today.

Gbawe: How could he have done better with it?
By going for textbooks and computer centres. The textbooks will most likely outlive Opon Imo while the computer centres can be monitored and its contents controlled. Not forgetting the fact that the Opon Imo could be abused by the students as there will be little or no supervision of its use most times.

Did anybody notice how most of the figures budgetted are round figures. If there is some form of evaluation before these budget were made i wonder why they are mostly round figures like N100m, N150m, N200m and N300m. The whole budget looks like a proposed sharing formular hurriedly cooked up.
If they had gone with cost of previous projects for their projections, i wonder how they would have ended up having so many round figures.
