Dutchboy: The South African youth are still protesting for something that is beneficial to them that is the difference. Nigerians youths protest agianst EFCC to return to millions of dollars to Patience Jonathan and are paid protestors at every corrupt politician trial. They polticians have improvished the youths and divided them along ethnic lines as they loot and pillage the nation resources. Oh I get it now. |

Dutchboy: Youths in Ghana are protesting because they no longer enjoy 24 hours electricity, while the ones in South Africa are protesting and have shut down the universities over free tuition fees. Nigerian youths on the other hand spend most of time arguing along ethnic lines and insulting each other tribes. We have a long way to go,we have some of the most ignorant and backward people in the world. Oga that the youths in SA and Ghana are doing it doesn't necessarily make it right. To me, free tuition is demonic policy that kills. Look at Nigeria as a case study. It is failing us woefully. |

The youths are part of the problem as we never ask important question like what candidates intend to do about Fulani herdsmen, state of origin, sharia, power supply, education or the exploitative federal character principle. |

PStylish: The farmers would have sold at the current crazy market rate against every iota of reason.
That's Nigerians for you.
Now, the farmers must compete with the rice importers.
That's fair game IMO
Our local goods must learn to be competitive. I'll be mad to go for imported rice at 10k if a locally made one is readily available at 9k. 10 likes |

agabusta: What now happens to all the efforts to stimulate local production of rice?? Nigeria and policy somersaults eh.
Well, some short term advantage will accrue from this: -cheaper rice
Long term disadvantages -pressures on naira will continue as people continue sourcing for scarce foreign exchange for rice imports. -if the local production is not well protected and nourished, this new directive can kill off the production. A combination of increased dollar rate and the import levy should increase the price of foreign rice and make local production attractive. If the borders aren't opened the local farmer will increase price astronomically and above the foreign alternative. For me, the timing of the move is flawless. |

MadamExcellency: What arrant nonsense is this your postulation suppose to mean? Are we talking about meeting the enormous sharing of Dollars in APC's primary elections.
Obasanjo's met $3.5 billion and an oil output far lower than what Buhari saw.
Let me put some things straight, Obasanjo left CBN’s external reserves of $31.5 billion because there wasn't ridiculous defence of Naira like done by Mallam Sanusi until the adjustment to N197 after he was booted out. LIAR ! ! ! You lied shamelessly and also argued against yourself. |
Politics › Re: CBN Restricts Forex Reserves Statistics To Sept. 17, 2015 by Sibrah: 2:25pm On Oct 08, 2016 |
obailala: Nigeria's import bill (average monthly forex demand) has increased by over 1000% between 1999 and 2016 so if you have an idea what foreign reserves are used for, then you will realise that a $3.5bn reserve in 1999 was worth far more than $30bn reserve in 2016.
Regarding the defence of the Naira, are you by any means shifting blame this time to Sanusi Lamido for the inability of the last regime to shore up our reserves?... Wonderful!
...and by the way, where did you get that idea from that CBN only defended the naira under SLS during GEJ's time?.... are you saying Soludo didn't also defend the naira with billions of dollars under OBJ? The habit of defending the Naira gulped $217B between 2002 and 2014(12years period). Leave the voodoo economist alone. |

Are they not supposed to know that? It is all about politician doing what is politically right for their interest. This practise of subsidized dollar ending up in the wrong hands has been there for ages and every single govt knows it but they prefer to keep the subsidy alive in order to give you and I the impression Naira is stable. |

Alot of opinion attacking Buhari where they have no business attacking him. The policies failed largely due to weak institution. The banks for example, were suppose to sell forex alotted to them by CBN(FG) at a certain rate to certain group but they diverted it to other group of people for a higher value and CBN wasn't strong enough(too weak) to correct it. The govt has no business subsidizing dollar for importers whose activities weaken our currency and promote capital flight among others. |
