jeebz: I actually mean that a student who can't recite the times table would have serious challenges with the topics in SS2 Physics. Topics like Electricity and Mechanics may prove difficult. You may need assess the real situation of the students in terms of what they lack and start from there. I guess that you may need to assess their knowledge of elementary physics to see if it would be worthwhile to proceed with the SS2 curriculum. Thanks for that tip... Would do just that |
Education › Re: Please Help Me Save These Students by simiolu1(op): 11:08pm On Jan 30, 2015 |
jeebz: One thing you can do is to prepare your curriculum based on what you have any observed because the topics in SS2 physics are not child's play. I have d curriculum and I've tried to strictly adhere to it. But we have a situation where if they have missed a topic in an earlier class, I hav to teach that topic first before teachin them what is in d curriculum. Thanks for your contribution |

I followed this topic even before it made front page with the aim of checking on it when time permits. Tochi, from one photographer to another, U have taken street photography/documentary to a new level. Many of the stories have touched me, I can't even begin to give specifics. You could send the portfolio to TV stations (they love documentaries) and you'll be suprised by the traction the project is going to get. I wish I was in Lagos, I could have volunteered some man hours to a project like this. Gracias... |

It's now that I've come to appreciate the quality of education and exposure I have received in life.
To those who have made it possible (teachers, classmates, parents, sponsors, lecturers, advisers, encouragers et al), gracias. I love you all!
As a Corper serving in a missionary school in Imo state, I have encountered so many challenges.
From lateness, to indiscipline, to unseriousness, I thought I had seen it all.
However, during a SS1 Physics class this morning, I realised that my "beloved" students didn't know the multiplication table.
To say I was shocked is an understatement! In an instant, my morale took a nosedive and I felt like weeping for this country.
I did a brief exercise and discovered that 99% of Senior Students in the school didn't know the multiplication table. When I told the SS2 students to learn it before Monday, a female student asked if I wanted them to run mad. Imagine!
I'm still asking myself where I could start teaching them from but the magnitude of the problem really dazzles me.
I really want to impart these students positively and make them better students and people.
Good people of Nairaland, if you were in my shoes, where would you start from?
Matured advices only... Thanks |

@ siena well.... Its about the market/sales...
Toyota learnt that long ago.... A automobile doesnt have to be 100% perfect.... Build what people want, add what your competitors dont have.... Add safety paraphernelia.... Roll it to the market and make your money.... Abi u want them to produce what wouldnt sell?
Well, so..... Are u saying you'll pick a picanto over an A class? Or an optima can match a C350? ... If u ask d common drivers what issues they detest most in a car, believe me, rust would be the least of responses.... You see it here every day on nairaland... "i want a rugged car that is economical with cheap parts"...... So.... In conclusion, dont blame Mercedes for choosing to shift market focus or relegate some quality specs.... If u want to make it big.... Give people what they want (toyota), not what is best for them (peugeot)...
People see all those loaded gadgets in Benz and they buy it..... They dont see the rust until 7-15 years later.... So.... Maybe we're at same junction sha.... Take the Benz...use it.... When u notice rust.... Paint it.... Sell it........!!.... Wicked U! There is God o... |

RedReact: To add to what simiolu1 said, igetemi should try to build his foundation calculus (elementary and advanced) and linear algebra. That is what all of Physics is built on. If he can do that, he will find it interesting to study. Thanks bro... To put it in simple terms, learn basic integration, diferentiation and trig. If you know U can't stand any of these topics, kindly reconsider ur dream of studyin Physics or most engineerin courses. |

Please be informed that different schools have different approach dependin on the major. Some schools offer Physics standalone while others offer it as Physics/Electronics. Even amongst schools that offer d same major, d course outline would be different. Hope U get my drift |

I appreciate you all...
can I get technical knowledge from Airline if I get to do IT there? I.e would they take me to the Maintenance section?
and pls I need some other examples of companies I could do placement in.. Yes they can! But U have to find out first if they are willing to put U in that dept. The first thing U need to do is narrow ur IT placement search to an industry or group of industries. When U do that U can then ask peeps to give U company names in d particular industry(ies) of ur choice. |

Alexyswiss: pls I am studying physics bsc at my 200L we going on SIWES next month
in furthering my career as a physicist I'm going into AeroPhysics or any space related field so where can I do my IT that can give me some pre-knowledge of it
thanks PS can I do my IT in an airport? #TeamPhysicist If U're goin to be lookin for placement at d airport, pls ur best bet would be jobs that add a technical knowledge to U! Cos d knowledge gained would serve ur career objective(s) in the long term. Those category of jobs include NAMA, maintenance engineer (with any of the airlines) etc. As much as possible, avoid placements that limit U to administrative tasks only (carrying reports, filing papers, buying food, goin to d bank to send or collect money etc.) My 2 cents |

RedReact: You are welcome bro. All the best in your endeavours and speedy success too.
@Alexyswiss, one thing about Physics is that you can switch into any field you like, even in the area of medicine. The area of Aero in its technicality aspect is out of the scope of Physics, only in the research field; hence, there is nothing like Aero Physics. However, if you want to move into the aero world, it is a different career on its own and you are free to get into it. I believe your first degree in Physics will get you into Piloting, should you desire to fly planes. He could also become an Engineer (of planes and helicopters), go into avionics or aerospace management (as seen wit guys in NAMA). Please note that aviation is like a closed industry & U'll need to do some professional courses (at NDA or elsewhere). Except of course U have connections in d industry |
