While the war of the OSes continues, I’ll try to bring forth the good and bad of each! Here are a few facts about operating systems. Today, the market is dominated by Microsoft’s Windows, followed by Apple’s Mac OS X, which is a strong contender. And finally by Linux-based operating systems. That said, let’s take a look at some of the pros and cons of each of these platforms. This will come in handy when you are trying to choose which is best for you.

Windows
Microsoft’s Windows OS has owned the lion’s share of the market in PCs for a long time now, but with the rise of mobile operating systems, it has lost favour to the Linux-based Android and Apple’s iOS operating systems.

Pros
1. Everything works on Windows. Well, almost everything. Still, when it comes to compatibility, neither Mac nor Linux can boast better records.
2. Finding support for problems in Windows is very easy. That said, Mac and Linux aren’t far behind, but simply by the volume of users it has, there is much more help available for Windows.
3. Features and functionality is another segment that Windows has been known for. The other two are catching up very fast though.

Cons
1. Being the most popular OS, it is also the most attacked. Hence, there are many viruses and other forms of malware for Windows.
2. Windows OS eats a lot of your system’s resources and makes it slow. In fact, Windows Vista and Windows 7 can easily be called the slowest of them all.
3. It’s proprietary and so comes at a cost.

Macintosh
What many newbies don’t know is that the Macintosh OS is actually older than Windows. In fact, Apple’s platform was the first ever successful graphical-based operating system and it was released a year before Windows.

Pros
1. Mac does not get viruses. This is one of the biggest USPs of the platform. Because of its lesser market share, there aren’t many viruses for Apple’s Mac OS. However, this doesn’t mean you shouldn’t get an anti-virus for your Mac.
2. To run a Mac, you must have a Mac too. Being compatible only with Apple’s devices, this OS always runs smoothly as the devices are made for the OS.
3. On the presentation department, Apple has always been ahead of Windows. Mac always comes with a style quotient attached to them.

Cons
1. If you thought Windows was expensive, then Mac isn’t for you because it’s more expensive than Windows.
2. The second point in the pros section is also a con for the Mac. You have to buy an Apple computer to run the Mac. These computers are expensive.
3. Mac has never been known for its gaming compatibility, even though the computers are immensely powerful. Moreover, many other programs do not run on the Mac PC.

Linux
The way things stand right now, laptops and PCs are becoming passé and mobile operating systems are gaining popularity. Linux is being adopted like never before!

Pros
1. Linux is free and that is its biggest USP. You have to pay nothing. You can download a copy of your favourite Linux distribution (a type of Linux-based OS usually called distro) and then even build your own distro using this one.
2. Linux is just the kernel, not the OS. Being proprietary OSes, Windows and Macs come about once a year or not even that. Linux, on the other hand, has a variety of options available. You can go from Ubuntu to Fedora to Debian to Arch Linux. If you’re interested in hacking, then Kali Linux is at your disposal.
3. An interesting thing about Linux is that it is almost immune to viruses.

1. Linux is somewhat more complicated than Mac or Windows. To unlock its powerful potential, you have to know the Linux command line which is like learning how to use a computer all over again.
2. Linux also has a compatibility issues, but that is strictly because of its market share. There are open source (free) alternatives to almost all programs though.
3. While many have started selling Linux-based computers, the number of vendors is still low. You will most often have to buy a Windows PC and then download Linux onto it. The OS is free though, so there’s no added cost.

When it comes to choosing your operating system, you must focus on what your usage is. A gamer will always prefer a Windows PC, simply because all games are compatible with it. On the other hand, a sound engineer or a video editor will prefer to work with Mac for its superior support in that segment. Linux users are open source proponents and they like the flexibility of the OS. Often, Linux users are more serious computer users than other and know about coding, scripting etc.

The suffix or prefix thing is a matter of choice. My bro uses his Mayowa without any prefix. D tin sef no get prefix on top him birth cert.

I woke up two days ago with a strong urge to defecate.
I proceeded to fetch water from the well & patiently waited for my female neighbor to come out of the toilet (My room shares a toilet with 2 other rooms).
When she came out, I entered the toilet & opened the toilet cover.
I was shocked to see her sanitary pad which she had just disposed into the toilet.
I was so annoyed that I went to another neighbors' room (which was a self-contain) to use his toilet.
Flushing the stuff inside the toilet causes blockage of d soak-away; I hav shouted several times but this lady wouldn't listen.

Which brings me to the question: what is the best way to dispose a sanitary pad?

Saw an Ad bout 1020 on NatGeo Wild,the pix and vids were awesome to say the least.

When it comes to camera sensors especially for phones, Nokia is one of d best (if not the best).
However, as a photographer, I have discovered dat wen it comes to camera specs, megapixel is d LAST tin to look out for.
Wat matters to pro-photographers include ISO performance (d ability of a camera to take photos in xtrmely low light conditions wit as little digital noise as possible), frame per sec (fps-d no of pix a camera can take in a sec in continuous shoot mode), no of focus points, etc.
This is y phone cams just can't compare to DSLRs.
However, d big advantage for phone cams is dat they are handy and follow U everywhere U go unlike DSLRs, dat can be quite heavy.
In conclusion, phone cams have their place & oda cams too have their place.

First of all, please note that there are different types of cameras, which may or may not have d same basic purpose but have different levels of intelligence.
D average phone camera can only b compared wit point and shoots (those small hand held cameras U're refering to).
Point and shoots differ from mirrorless cameras which can be mounted with different lenses.
Mirrorless cameras differ from DSLRs-d cameras dat professional photographers use (which could be full-frame sensor or cropped sensor; and could also be basic, semi-pro or pro) *hope I haven't lost U there*
DSLRs have video capacities but they are primarly photography cameras.
DSLRs differ from video cameras such as camcoders, HD cameras, celluloid etc.
So, all these tend to have d same basic function-taking photos and recording videos- but each has its level of technological advancement.

Point of correction; U don't play VLC. Go to d Apple Store and searcb for "VLC Media Player" or go 2 VLC's official website to download d proper one for ur device

Is ur cd drive a dvd drive? There is a difference btwn d two. Cd drives can't play dvds just like a vcd player can't play dvds. But if it's a dvd drive, den it means it's faulty. In dat case, U have 2 change it

Subtitles don't ALWAYS sync wit d movie U r playin. For instance, a movie U downloaded frm Yify while d sub U downloaded manually was encoded for Smart. In ds case, one has 2 load d sub file (.srt) manually by right clickin->subtitle->load subtitle->choosin d srt file->open. Wait for some seconds 4 d sub file 2 sync & voila! U're done

Personally, I think wat would make Vlc peeeeerrrrfect would be the ability to source for subtitles for movies from a subtitle database like subscene.com, opensubtitles.org etc. To d best of my knowledge, only Smplayer has this ability and dat is basically wat I use to get subtitles for movies.
If U want to get d best from ur vlc, update to d latest version. D interface is better & it is easier to use its streaming capacities

Nope. VLC as far as I know has only ripping capacities (it can get media files from ur discs to ur system). It does not have burning capacities (writin media files from ur system to ur discs).

Get a software like Format Factory dat can enable U convert d files to mp4 and merge/join them (if U want to) and use Roxio or Nero burner to do d burning.

A retired Lawyer once told me I'd b a teacher after I told him I was studying Pure & Applied Physics. I shook my head feelin sorry 4 him.
By God's grace, I did my I.T in a telecoms firm & it was then my eyes were opened 2 d opportunities within my reach. I can become a medical physicist, geophysicist, engineer, pilot, theoretical physicist, etc just by d virtue of my cert.
No certificate or knowledge is a waste; it only depends on d holder.
& it is now paramount dat undergraduates begin 2 think of how 2 create jobs instead of searchin for jobs.
Acquire skills (like Languages, computer know-how, programming, networking, photography, fashion designin etc) but most of all, get knowledge on the leverage ur certificate gives U.
And don't think within the Nigerian context alone!

U see, to b a cartoonist, U MUST b good at drawin. And since d world has gone digital, drawin too has gone digital. That's y softwares like Photoshop, Illustrator, CorelDraw hv become popular.
Cartoonists are creative pple; expand ur boys creativity and his options would b limitless!
He could become a graphic artist, brand manager, cartonist, illustrator etc.
I'd suggest U buy him color books, charcoal pencils, drawin books, drawin pad & xpose him early 2 d world of Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop & CorelDraw!
