Part of d essence of d thread is for people to share lessons so that others can also learn.
So if U just got admission or still an undergrad, I hope U learn from d experiences shared

KillerBeauty: One of the things I learnt from my undergraduate days is how to be confident and speak in front of a crowd. In school I was always heading assignment groups and I was always the one to do the presentation. Though I don't really volunteer to head the group but most times my group members always shy away from such positions. So at the end of the day I became confident to speak in front of a crowd at any time.
Nice one there... That's a pretty good skill.
Make people comment na, abi na only undergrads full here?

5. Being financially wise is compulsory. I wasn’t like every other student in terms of finances. I collected money for the whole semester at once (the beginning of the semester) and how I spent it was my business. Initially, I would spend like Omo Baba Olowo but as I grew older, I became wiser and learnt how to budget and save for miscellanies. Because of this newly found wisdom, I was able to furnish my room to my taste in 2 semesters.

6. Belle no be show glass. Often times as an undergraduate, I would have nothing to eat. There were times I’d pluck cashews and mangoes and they’d serve as breakfast/lunch/dinner depending on the time I ate them. But I always put a smile on my face and act as if I’d just eaten a buffet. If I no tell anyone, who go know? In fact, there was a day I trekked to school to write a test (a distance of over 4 km) only for the test not to hold. I called the course rep and told him my predicament. He was shocked because I didn’t look like someone who had trekked 4km.

Though there’re still many lessons I learnt, I’ll stop here cos I want you to add yours. Let the fun begin!

3. Put your pride and ego aside; ask for help when you need it! Before writing the exam of the three-unit course I failed, I went to a course-mate and asked him to tutor me. He told me he had no time but I could come for the tutorial he was taking for our juniors. I went home and was like “so I would sit with my juniors for tutorials. Chai!” I attended the tutorial and all eyes were on me throughout but I got used to it. To cut the long story short, I had a B when the result came out. I know that if I hadn’t gone for that tutorial, I wouldn’t have made that grade.

4. The best way out of temptation is to run! One of the reasons I did bad in my first year was that I was socializing than reading. I’d leave lectures to play snooker, video games, eat at restaurants etc. and didn’t bother about my books till exams came. I lived in the school rea and these distractions abounded. I knew I wasn’t yet strong enough to resist such temptation so I moved away from school area; went home immediately after lectures and had more time for personal study. The jolly friends I had made never for once visited my new hostel cos “it was too far”. Though it initially hurt, I later realized that they weren’t really my friends and dissociated from hanging out with them.

I collected my final results some days ago and I can proudly say I’m a graduate. I’m an alumni (I hope I can now use that word without refrain) of a State University of Technology in the South-West whose courses are all 5 years. Guess you know the name already. While ruminating before sleeping the day I got my results; I discovered I had learnt so many lessons in the University. Read on if you wanna know ‘em

1. Setting specific goals matter a lot. I can still remember the day I printed my admission letter. I was so happy to be an undergraduate after 4 years of staying at home. Still basking in the euphoria of my latest feat, I headed to school with only a goal in mind—become a graduate in the next 5 years. But the problem is, the goal wasn’t specific enough. The first time I consciously decided to graduate with a 2.1 was after collecting my 200 level second semester result. Thank God time was still on my side. Phew!

2. Hardwork really pays. I graduated with a CGPA of 3.50 (just making a second class upper) but I was fulfilled when I got my final result. I know it could have been better but considering all I went through in school, it would suffice. I finished 100 level with a CGPA of 2.61 and a carry-over in a zero unit course. I fared a little better in 200 level but managed a CGPA of 2.74 with a carry-over in a three unit course. I worked my butt off in the remaining six semesters averaging 4.0 every semester in order to graduate with a second class upper. During exams, I overworked myself and most times became ill after exams but the results always made me fulfilled. Make we no lie, there’s nothing like seeing your exam question paper and knowing that you can answer at least 3 questions out of 6 without asking for external help.

FamilyRe: So, What About When Women Abuse Men? by simiolu1(m): 7:39pm On Aug 13, 2014
dotmanz: Hmn.. Reading this story reminded me of my direct experiences few years back, I can't hold back ma tears. All I have to tell u is, some things are better imagined, or see in movies than experienced. I narrowly escaped death as a result of physical abuse and assaults, I passed the night lining on my office table, wearing the same dress for 4 days. I found a reason to regret the invention of Mobile phone, if my phone ever beep in her awkward, it would be a message from home, always very short. ' I'm yet to get notification' or sometimes, 'switch the power to NEPA whenever u comes back'. Slap is the least of it all, I wldnt believe a woman born of human being cld slap her supposed husband all in the name of 'I'm talking to you, u are using me to press a phone'. Complication started coming in, errors at work, Lost a contract worth 12Million Naira due to my unsettled mind. The next thing that followed was calling my MD at the office to persuade him to divert my monthly pay to her personal account without my knowledge.. I was once chased from my apartment to the bus-stop, shouting and raising words of abuses, my things were set on fire.. Infact, my story is a super story.. I only managed to improvised all measures to stay alive. Do you know what it feels like for a wife to always lock the bedroom door with a key and drop a pillow at the sitting room for her supposed husband to use.. My dear, my BP started reading 170/130.. Some doctors became close to me to offer some psycho-emotional conseling.. Funny enough, no member of my family or anyone knew what I was passing through.. Abeg if think all these things, I seems to develop a height of hatred for women..
Sorry for pokenosing... How did it (the abuse) end? Did U just walk away & never turned back or something tragic (near-death experience) happened?
I'm asking so that other people in such situations might know how to have d guts to make d abuse stop.
Thanks

FamilyRe: So, What About When Women Abuse Men? by simiolu1(m): 3:55pm On Aug 13, 2014
I also heard d story of a married man whose wife reported him missing. The man simply vanished without a trace.
Neigbors say d man would come home from work & d wife would be inside watching DSTV (full housewife tins) & refuse to open d door 4 the man. This happened constantly & he had to report d wife to her family.
Alas, his MIL advised him to marry another wife because he will die prematurely if tins continued like that.
Na so d guy relocated sharperly.
My point: because of our temperaments, we (men) react to abuse differently. I can beat my chest that if it was my elder bro in dis man's situation, he'd have beaten d woman black & blue b4 sending her to her parents house.
FamilyRe: So, What About When Women Abuse Men? by simiolu1(m): 3:46pm On Aug 13, 2014
I continually pray never to be slapped by a woman just because I wouldn't know wat my reaction would be. I've never been in an abusive relationship & I've never had a confrontation wit a female. Because of this, I'm seen as a good boy in my area.
However, my elder bro beat 2 sisters some years back. The elder one insulted him; he replied her & gbam! She slapped him. D beatin he gave her no get part two. When d junior sister arrived, she supported her sister, threw stones at my bro & got her own fair share of d beating. Their mother threatened to lock him up but people wu witnessed it said d girls only got served wat they dished out.
Since then, ladies around wu heard of d incident labelled my bro a "woman beater" while guys who lived in d same block wit d girls hailed him cos he stood up for himself.
Such is d plight of a man who beats a woman in reaction to wat d woman has done.

Massaging makes d pain relieve U but it inflicts a measure of pain in itself. Just like d way bitterleaf first tastes bitter before tasting sweet. U can also visit a physiotherapist

kunlejazz: I get ur point bro but the problem isn't really d job, its the fact that most pple over-rate their worth and wouldn't want to start small. I personally know a good number of firms that will consider almost any graduate (one smart enuff though) for the post of trainee engr(with very little pay of course, 30-50k), and that, my brother is a VERY good way to start but here's d question, how many of how almighty 2.1, first class graduates can stoop that low? The problem really is the entry point, getting into the industry and what I stated above will solve that.
I'm a fresh graduate of Physics with a 2.1 and really want to work (as an Intern or Graduate Trainee) before & during NYSC (I pray I'm mobilized for d Nov batch).
Could U help me out? Thanks. My e-mail address is s.p.oluwatomi@gmail.com.
Thanks much

PRIX: lols thanks... I've once used ibuprofen.. twas good but my doc later prescribed diclofenac for me...
does all those IBU painkillers kill the pain immediately?
None will give U immediate relief... They take time to get into d blood stream.
However, if U want close to instant relief
1. Have someone massage the aching area thoroughly (this in itself inflicts some measure of pain) or use a body spray (like those footballers use). But note that d spray requires no massage. But U can do d massage before applying the spray (whatever rocks ur boat)
2. Eat something that induces sleep (hot pap does the trick for me).
Sleeping helps muscles/bones to relax
3. Use ur drug
4. Sleep!
I'm sure that by d time U wake up, U'll feel much better.

Music/RadioRe: Sorry, Slim, But Lil Wayne Is The Greatest MC Alive by simiolu1(m): 11:39pm On Jul 20, 2014
bankydd: sorry..I think you misunderstood me... my overall point is

Wayne makes better albums
he has better albums
he has more albums
he has more music
and is more enjoyable .
Just cos U say it don't mean it's a fact or truth... It's ur opinion & is VERY different from mine.
I guess U should read d replies so far & count d "votes" and pick who wins.
What's ur criteria for judging d "better" MC? Music acceptance, artiste longevity, no of albums/mixtapes, awards, lyrics, punchlines?
Finally, to crown Lil Wayne as the MC King? Who does that?
Music/RadioRe: Sorry, Slim, But Lil Wayne Is The Greatest MC Alive by simiolu1(m): 11:21pm On Jul 20, 2014
shymexx: The funniest thing is: Drake is actually a better lyricist than Lil Wayne, when he raps. So that effectively makes Lil Wayne the 2nd best on Young Money. Tyga might even be a better rapper than Lil Wayne yano. And when Weezy was with BG, Juve, and Turk - both BG and Juve were far better than him. They wrote his lyrics back then.

Eminem is great but he's overrated as well.

The thread is useless - another unforgivable sin against hip-hop.
I generally don't like doin comparisms but d Op is way outa line on this one.
If U wanna compare; especially when it comes to giving an artiste a king in a particular genre of music, U don't compare apples to oranges.
Ops comparism is like sayin "Davido is better than Faze" just because Davido has more club bangers...
Music/RadioRe: Sorry, Slim, But Lil Wayne Is The Greatest MC Alive by simiolu1(m): 11:01pm On Jul 20, 2014
shymexx: Blasphemy!! Asinine!!! And utter ridiculous!!!!

You lot did't even say "Rapper" - MC yano. grin Do you even know what a MC is? You mean the same Lil Wayne who said more time he's just chatting shiit in his lyrics, ad he doesn't know why people like it. Yes, he had his run, just as Ja Rule and Nelly did their thing when they were on-top - but that's where it ends. You lot are crazy!

And Eminem again? I now see why naija has never produced any decent rapper/MC that can actually rap, since most of you are stuck on Lil Wayne and Eminem. You lot need to start studying what hip-hop is all about. Lyrics pattern. Bars. Punchlines. Metaphors. Similes. How to put a 16 together. etc.

This thread is just ridiculous. The God son, Nasty Nas, the illmatic, and stillmatic, Nasir "Oludara" Jones, is still alive - yet nobody mentioned the best lyricist. He dropped hip-hop's bible, Illmatic, at age 19 - the greatest rap album ever.

I'm out! SMFDH! undecided
I nearly fainted when I saw d Topic... And I really am tempted to ask how old d Op is.
But d issue here IMO is "Lil Wayne VS Eminem". If a Mod took a vote here and now; Eminem wins it (no contest).
Bringing Nas into this is another ball game entirely...
Christianity EtcRe: Pastor Kumuyi Denies Banning Ipads & Phones In His Church by simiolu1(m): 9:01pm On Jul 16, 2014
Chidexter: But seriously, reading the scripture through phones e.t.c is a disrespect to God. can u use ur fone to cast out demons?
In as much as I want to understand ur point, I just can't.
For cryin out loud, the modern day Bible that seems so small used to be large and plenty scrolls until the printing press was invented.
The question is, were those scrolls not casting out demons?
Now that technology is takin over, the Bible too should change form... From analogue (in a book form), to digital (software & applications).
To me, it's not disrespecting God, it's changing wit the times.
Maybe U should get PC Study Bible (I think version 5 is the latest) and U'll realise that U hav over 20 translations of d Bible in 1 software!
Isn't that great?
And about castin out demons, it's not just d Bible that is involved in castin out demons. Even if U carry a Thomson Chain reference Bible and don't hav God's Word IN U, d demon go just dey look U wit 3D glasses as U dey waste ur time.
