Contractors handling the re-construction of
the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, Julius Berger
Plc and Raynolds Construction Company
(Nigeria), are back on site in continuation of
the job.
Julius Berger’s men were seen working at the
Redemption Camp and Arepo areas at the
Lagos end of the road on Friday. But the work
was more of a palliative as the firms only
attended to the failed sections of the road. No
reconstruction or expansion was done.
The News Agency of Nigeria also indicated in a
report on Sunday that while palliative work
was ongoing at the failed spots around the
Redemption Camp area of the road, major
construction work was being done at the
Arepo area.
The repair on the Arepo spot caused gridlock
on the Long Bridge on Friday and travellers
spent about two hours moving from the Berger
Bus to Arepo, a distance that should take less
than seven minutes.
It was, however, not clear the role of the Ogun
State Government in the return of Julius
Berger to the site. A signpost erected by the
state government was still at the Arepo spot
as of Sunday, showing that it was responsible
for the palliative work.
Julius Berger is handling Section One of the
project, which stretches from the Sagamu
Inter-Change to Lagos, while RCC is in charge
of Section Two, stretching from the Sagamu
Inter-Change to Ojoo, Ibadan.
Motorists have clamoured for an early
completion of the road, which is about the
busiest highway in the country.
A source at the Julius Berger end of the road,
who spoke on condition of anonymity, said
that the company was back on the road for
good, saying: “It is time to move forward on
the project.”
The expected date for the completion of the
project, which is being financed through
Public-Private Partnership, is July 3, 2017.
Meanwhile, motorists and commuters who use
the road have continued to appeal to the
Federal Government to speed up work to make
travelling on the road pleasurable.
A commercial vehicle driver plying the road
daily, Ojo Agege, told NAN that it was high
time the government ensured the speedy
completion of the project.
Another commercial driver, Lateef Mohammed,
said motorists would continue to have
nightmares on the road until the Federal
Government fixed it.
“All we are saying is that the government
should help to fast-track the construction of
the road to ease the delay being experienced
daily by travellers,” he said.
A female trader, Simisola Joseph, expressed
optimism that with the coming of Babatunde
Fashola as Power, Works and Housing
Minister, the construction would soon be
completed.
A driver, Femi Ajegun, told NAN that vehicular
movement was now easy with the completion
of work on some critical areas at the Ibadan
end of the road.
“With the quality of job done and removal of
long stretch of diversion by the RCC, motorists
and travellers now experience some
pleasurable ride,” he said.
Sule Maito, a bus passenger, at Ogere area of
the road, told NAN that if the contractor could
continue with the way it was going, the job
would be completed on schedule.
The Federal Ministry of Works last week, after
a meeting of stakeholders with the Presidency,
said that the government had committed
N50bn to the project.

SaharaReporters has learned that Abubakar
Audu, the governorship candidate of the All
Progressives Party (APC) in yesterday's
election in Kogi State, died as early as 5 a.m.
Nigerian time on Sunday.
According to family sources, Mr. Audu started
vomiting blood on Friday night in what family
sources described as a bizarre deterioration in
his health condition. One of the family
sources described the late controversial
politician as hypertensive.
"He started vomiting blood after he returned
from Lokoja," said the family source who
witnessed Mr. Audu’s deterioration.
He added that Mr. Audu woke up very tired on
Saturday, the day of the governorship election.
He said doctors had given the former governor
blood transfusion which gave him enough
energy to go to the polling booth to vote in
his hometown, Ogbonicha.
According to the source, Mr. Audu returned to
his home on Saturday and began vomiting
again. "After a while he became unconscious
and died around 5 a.m. on Sunday morning,"
said the source, who requested anonymity.
The family's timeline of Mr. Audu's death
indicated that he passed on before officials of
the Independent National Electoral
Commission (INEC) started collation and
announcement of results.
A source at INEC told SaharaReporters that
electoral officials knew of Mr. Audu’s death
before they announced the results of his
election inconclusive on Sunday.
Mr. Audu was a former governor of Kogi who
was accused of stealing billions of naira from
the state's treasury. SaharaReporters had
exposed a multi-million dollar home bought by
the ex-governor in Potomac, Maryland near
Washington, DC.
The APC chose Mr. Audu as its governorship
candidate despite the fact that he was being
tried for money laundering and embezzlement
of state funds by the Economic and Financial
Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Mr. Audu will be buried tomorrow according to

If the Kogi people allow the APC to win this election, they should be prepared for the TEN plagues that will strike them down. God will punish every last one of them for allowing this country slip back to Egypt. If the good people of Kogi want salvation, once the results announce Audu as the winner, they should organise large scale pogroms and bloody violence. They should kill every APC supporter and worker they can get their hands on. They shouldn't keep still, they should defy the military and security personnel and wage war on INEC and the government, till a fresh poll is organized. That is the only way. If they stay idle and accept it as fate, then they are forever doomed.

AHEAD of Wednesday’s (today) inauguration of 36 ministers-designate, there were indications on Tuesday that President Muhammadu Buhari, had reduced the number of federal ministries to 25 from about 29. Under the new dispensation, the ministries of police affairs, aviation and special duties appear to have been scrapped while ministries of Lands, Housing, Urban Development and Works have been merged to become Ministry of Works and Housing. Also, the information, culture, national orientation and tourism ministries have been collapsed into one Ministry of Information and Culture. Also, the Ministries of Sports as well as Youth Development have also been merged to form Ministry of Sports and Youth Development. The Ministry of Aviation is now under the Ministry of Transportation, among other mergers. The development came even as the President on Tuesday retired 17 permanent secretaries and announced the appointment of 18 new ones. In fact, indication that the President had settled for just 25 ministries was contained in the announcement of the appointment and deployment of permanent secretaries by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina. The govt keeps lamenting about how the past administration, spearheaded by his majesty, the 'DADDY OF DEMONCRAZY', looted and emptied the treasury thereby leading to serious economic instabilities and the next thing is 5k for unemployed youths Smh

ABUJA – Ahead of the swearing in of the
ministerial nominees following their successful
screening and confirmation by the senate last
week, the Presidency has denied releasing any
list that assigned portfolios to them.
The denial followed the speculated list of
portfolios which made the rounds especially
on social media on Sunday.
Responding to Vanguard on the issue, the
Special Adviser to President Mohammadu
Buhari, Mr. Femi Adesina said that the list did
not emanate from the presidency as it was
not officially signed.
“Any communication from the presidency must

said.
