Yesterday, we reported that a 19-year-old secondary school leaver, Confidence Nwanma was stabbed to death by her 24-year-old boyfriend, Saliu Ladayo after she reportedly laid a curse on him after he was seen with another woman.
The latest update on the incident, is that the family of the deceased has declared that the killer boyfriend must marry the corpse of the daughter in line with the tradition of the family.
Shortly after the killer boyfriend was arrested by police officers attached to the Ondo State Police Command, the father of the deceased Mr. Jude Nwanma, who spoke to Punch’s correspondent at his residence at Oke Aro, Akure, said that the custom must be observed in their home town in the Oru East Local Government Area of Imo State before his late daughter was buried.
According to him, failure to perform the traditional rite would cause calamity to befall the family of Ladayo.
“In our place, it is mandatory that the man must marry the corpse of our daughter. We must observe the custom by taking the corpse to our village where the marriage would take place.
“It is mandatory that he pays the dowry in double because he brought our daughter dead for marriage.
“He would observe all the dictates of the custom before our family would let him go. Without this, every young person from the family of the man will never get to the age of our daughter. They will die a sudden death just like our daughter.
” This is not our making; it is the way our ancestors put it down even before we were born. Our people all over the world are waiting for the court judgment. Whichever way it goes, the boy must perform the marital rite to our daughter’s corpse” he said.
According to the state Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Femi Joseph, the suspect who was paraded at the headquarters of the state police command would soon appear in court.

Two Nigerian citizens, both of whom reside in Houston, have been ordered to federal prison for perpetuating a wire fraud scheme involving various internet scams, announced U.S. Attorney Ryan K. Patrick. . . Idowu Olugbenga Temetan aka David Cole, 30, and Adetilewa Olamigoke Afolabi Ikuejuyone aka Kuffour Duval, 36, previously pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit wire fraud and three counts of wire fraud. . . Temetan also admitted to one count of passport forgery. U.S. District Judge Sim Lake handed Temetan a 51-month sentence, while Ikuejuyone received a 45-month sentence. . . Both defendants were also held jointly and severally liable to pay $187,422.60 in restitution. As both are not U.S. citizens, each are expected to face deportation proceedings following their sentences. . . At Ikuejuyone’s sentencing, the court heard testimony from a relative of one of the victims who testified about the emotional and financial toll the defendant’s criminal actions had taken on their family. . . During Temetan’s sentencing hearing, he acknowledged his mistakes and apologized to the victims for his actions. In handing down the sentences, the court noted the defendants engaged in a series of actions over an extended length of time to defraud multiple victims. . . From October 2013 until March 2014, Temetan and Ikuejuyone used counterfeit passports to open bank accounts in the greater Houston area. The passports contained photographs of Temetan and Ikuejuyone but utilized the aliases of David Cole and Kuffour Duval, respectively. . . Both Temetan and Ikuejuyone then worked with others to lure victims into sending money into various bank accounts under their sole ownership and control. . . Issafela: 3 Nigerians Arrested With Fake Documents, $53k Cash In A Stolen Maserati In Chicago.
Three Nigerian men arrested in Chicago in what was described as a stolen car packed with counterfeit passports, drivers’ licenses, and cash, are back on the street, after they faced relatively minor charges.
Mayowa Balogun, Danteni Tijani and Dolapo Badmus, were picked up on January 23, in a Maserati SUV which came back stolen out of Ohio. Police alleged all were carrying counterfeit passports and driver’s licenses, mostly from Great Britain.
According to Nbcchicago, the investigators said they also found nearly $40,000 in the car’s glove compartment, and over $13,000 in a coat elsewhere in the car.
Nevertheless, Balogun and Badmus, were charged only with possession of altered documents, a class 4 felony which allowed them to receive I-bonds and walk out of court.
The driver, Tijani, initially faced an additional charge of possession of a stolen motor vehicle. But that charge was later dropped.
Still, when Tijani appeared last week before Judge William Raines, when his attorney sought to have his bond reduced, exactly the opposite happened.
Raines set Tijani’s bond at $100,000, and ordered that he be placed on electronic monitoring if he managed to post that amount. Which he did, with the aid of a friend, less than an hour later.
Authorities were at a loss to explain why the charges were seemingly light despite the allegations that the three had obtained passports with their own pictures from Great Britain.
In court, it was presented that the documents had been obtained in short order for relatively little cost in Chicago. A spokesman for State’s Attorney Kim Foxx said prosecutors had insufficient evidence to make charges pertaining to the stolen car stick.
And that they had charged the document offenses to the fullest extent possible. The three are scheduled to appear in court again later this month.
