forget that thing man! it's just the new generation thinking. a man should cater for the needs of his family while the woman should take care of the home. that is how it should be a real man like me knows this.
You obviously aren't married.
Your theory might only work with a girlfriend. Not when you have a wife, family and numerous bills to pay

she is not meant to cater for her needs. the man should bro. i know that from the days of old. i'm a dude and i know what's right
Marriage works when both parties bring something to the table financially. No guy should get married to a broke lady, it's a burden you don't want to bear. In marriage y'all are suppose to support each other... No lady should get married because she needs someone to cater for her needs. That's business!

Poor Nairaland guys ,go n make money, poverty is a curse.....

I must marry my desire rich man... tongue tongue tongue
This is what I term the dependency mental, seeking for a rich husband to cater for your needs. Is there something wrong with having something going for yourself? Or getting married to a man with dreams and a plan? Most ladies keep waiting for the "the rich husband" till the ship sails without them. Then they end up settling for the "broke guy"

The 4m naira is just about 11k dollars. That is
small change in Western countries. Why not invest the money here and over time it grows. You can then afford to travel to Canada, Dubai or anywhere else for leisure, rather than to be just menial worker or even a criminal with all the risks involved. Someone told me that on his first trip abroad to London he saw a security guard in front of a shop and upon a closer look he discovered he was a lecturer he knew at a nigerian university, who left his job to seek so- called greener pastures abroad like OP is planning!
Your comment reeks of ignorance. Did you just call $11k chicken chnage? Do you know how many Americans have up to 2k cash in savings? Maybe 1 in every 30

So Amazingly, there are ways Nigeria is better than foreign country. But most people think foreign is a best home, which is totally wrong.

Below are 6 genuine reason why Nigeria is a better place to live than foreign.

Immigration law

Racial discrimination

Custom and Culture differences

Freedom of speech and movement

Tax levy differences.

Security threat to non indigene.

In case you're thinking of relocating from Nigeria to Foreign country, as a Nigerian i want you to consider the following points of view before taking any steps.

Though, am not discouraging you from achieving your dream but I'd like to share you some reasonable point which is very crucial to your well-being. But before i dash into the main point let me quickly share you some experience.
I was with my lecturer one day, he told me there's a time he was hired as a visiting lecturer in USA.

As he was about going back from lecture hall to his room at the hotel he lodged to, someone came across his way and greeted him very well. In appearance he dress like a road scrubber but he is a Nigerian, the person told him he's one of his students then in university of Ilorin.

Without wasting time the lecturer asked him never to greet him again. Saying "you're a type that useless Nigerian certificate in foreign country, it is better for to work as conductor serving your country than serving eyinbo"
In your own view what did you think about the short story, the professor feel him self?
Quietly No, he's just trying to encourage the young man to always value the resources God gave him (Certificate)

Imagine, have you ever see oyinbo people doing this type of job in Nigeria. This is so ridiculous..

So now I'm going to give full details on the aforementioned point above; why Nigeria is a better place to live than foreign country

Try and get my point.most Nigerians leave a good job and settle for less over dia ,work extra hours and the money is just to sustain emselves(while some people I know r doing perfectly well dia).traveling out doesn't mean u r better off than people here...people should plan before travelling..it's not that smooth over dia too.if u doing fine here, take ur time and go on vacation there.an average Nigerian from the comments have been seeing think u r successful once u r out of here and start converting dollar they r making there to naira we r spending here.
One thing we fail to realize is success doesn't happen overnight.
Living In the United States doesn't make you rich. I know poor American citizens.
To me, the difference between these two countries is that hard work pays better in the US.
Anyone in US will tell you same thing.

but in developed countries, many things are not free, i know for instance in the US if you dont have health insurance, you are done for.

not all society are perfect but my observation is that Nigeria are obsessed with the free loans even though it comes with high interest, the credit cards and mortgages, i wonder if they are not creating the debt trap for them and their children.
Wrong!

When I say EDUCATED MINDSET I don't mean going to school and acquiring degrees. I mean having a modern understanding of life and how we should live together to create advanced societies. For instance, in Nigeria our mindset have been configured to accept poverty, bad roads, erratic power supply and massive corruption as normal way of life. In societies having a modern mindset the citizens wouldn't tolerate all that for one second. There will be an eruption.

If you think the way out is by running away then Nigeria will never get developed. Selfishness is part of what is killing us in Nigeria. Whenever the average Nigerian gets an education he begins to feel too big to live in Nigeria. He starts to have this feeling of self-righteousness believing he is a good person while the rest of Nigerians are bad that he can't live with them. Then the next thing on his mind is running away from Nigeria.

The ROOT problem in Nigeria is lack of education. Majority of the citizens have an uneducated mindset. If 70% of Nigerians have an educated mindset many of these problems will go away and we will always elect and have the best rulers governing us. These Nigerians who run away from Nigeria are also part of the problem because if they had stayed back it would help sustain an increase in the number of educated and enlightened citizens which is the foundation of development. As folks like you get an education and keep running away how much educated workforce will be left in Nigeria to lead the nation to advancement? Those countries you are running to fixed their own countries so why can't we fix ours? If every Nigerian has a chance to emigrate to a foreign country don't you think they will also destroy the country with the same uneducated mindset they have?
*If you could "RUN AWAY" as you choose to put it, you'd never type this.
* Kindly elaborate more of on what you mean by the term "EDUCATED MINDSET"

Oga quiet. A large percentage of Nigerians have no idea about credits cards. Stop saying that shit just because you want to seem intelligent
What's your definition of a comfortable life?

* How many Nigerians come home from work each day hoping there's going to be electricity but end up going to barber shops to charge their phones
* A vast percentage of Nigerians have zero idea of what it feels like to turn on the tap in their bathrooms and have warm water on a daily basis.

*How about Paved roads, free education, free meals at school, scholarships to promising students,

I know several individuals who are just highschool leavers but they have jobs with which they can take care of their families ; Now mind you it's going to be a struggle in most cases. In Nigeria Msc degree holders are jobless.
I could go on and on. Not everyone who leaves Nigeria wants to be rich, they want have a better quality of life, give their kids (born or unborn) a better shot at having a comfortable life and help their family and loved ones back in Nigeria.

Your own toilet here in nigeria is bigger than his bed room where he sleeps and there is no time for them to even rest and sleep. They can not get a lady of their choice rather they go for the ones that the society have rejected . They lives like slaves and they don't have freedom and many ugly things you may not accept . TravelRe: American, US Based, And US Aspirant Derailer Thread by sirhamilton(m):
EgunMogaji:
IMHO, starting and running a business in the US is absolutely very easy.

Hear me out.

Unlike in Nigeria, the process is well detailed, the forms necessary are easily accessible, the fees are specific and doesn't change based on who you know.

I have businesses (not conglomerate but business none the less) both in Nigeria and USA and I speak from experience.

People also need to understand that the US is such a big place and that various municipality have their own rules and regulations.

Federal law
State law
County law
City law
Subdivision rules and regulations if in one.

In Nigeria we pretty much have federal law it seems.

One of the other things I want to impress on people is that where you leave, friends you keep and generally things that you do will dictate how you will coexist.

It's a pretty free society. I haven't spoken to a police officer since I came back to California in 2010. My Wife joined me here in 2013 and have never spoken to a police officer. I drove from Ibadan to Ijebu Ode last year and there were maybe 5 or 6 checkpoints. Seriously!

Infrastructure is pretty solid. Yeah we have some bad roads here and there.

Though I have been accused of discouraging people to migrate but it is not so. My whole deal is to migrate legally. It just makes things a lot easier.

On credit, it is very useful but one must be disciplined. I have credit cards with 0% interest for 18 months to 2 years. Basically free money to use while I earn interest on my savings. If you are disciplined to pay it off before the 18 months i sup then you're good. I just pity those that don't know how to use credit as they're selling themselves short in a credit society.

A good credit record affects the following:

Car insurance
Employment
Housing
Utilities (they can then ask for a hefty deposit but won't deny you service)

So you can see that it's not a play thing. You can't get a job in a bank if you have bad credit.

If you see your Americana friend with a iPhone X or S9 then one of three things. He bought it cash for about $1,000, he has good credit so that he got 0% rate or he has bad credit and he's paying ridiculous interest rate.

If you're a car freak like me then it is very easy to indulge yourself in the car hobby. America is not a country where if you have a 2000 Accord people will think you're piss poor like they would look at you in Nigeria. You can drive a very clean, very good and dependable car for under $1,000

Goo luck to all aspirants. Its a very good place to be a normal human being but you have got to hustle.
Hey bro, can I send you a pm?

Nigeria is better than any European or America that will cost you 500k to go and be a begger.

If you become a begger in Nigeria you will make money than begging in America not to talk of Europe.

Many people in Nigeria are very greedy and lezy in the Brian. If you start any business in Nigeria with 500k within 1yr the Money will double but if spend it to run away to any stupid Europe after 1yr you have lost it and nothing will replace it.

Who no go no know but some mistakes will hardly be corrected. If you are in Nigeria as a Nigerian you may never know how blessed you are until run to that so-called [Free money country[ and shame and regreat maybe your surname.

You obviously have no idea what you are saying

I am a huge beneficiary of this platform and I have been in US for four months now. I didn't have any prior travel experience before coming here, infact my trip to US was the first time I entered a plane. Regardless, I got most of the information I needed for both admission and the visa application from here.

I'd like share some of my experiences and the ways I have been cutting cost. In my first fews weeks here, I was spending about $20 each day on food and taxi. I couldn't escape it because I didn't even bring one food stuff from Nigeria and the truth is that I didn't have any intentions of cooking, not until I got here and realise that eating outside is best way to go broke. A basic meal would cost at least $7 (obviously cheap for a working class person earning in dollars here). Two meals a day at this price for 30 days is already $420, for a BASIC meal oo. Long story short, cooking is my new hubby grin . On the flip side food stuff is relatively cheap and you can comfortably live on $50 - $100 a month if you make your own food.
The funny thing I noticed is that beef is the "premium" meat here. Hence it is more expensive than chicken(the irony of life).
ALDI and Family dollar stores are my favorite stores because their items are very cheap. Check them out if they are near you. It pays to also get the grocery store card you shop from for membership deals and it's free.

The transport system here is kinda wack and it doesn't align well with my school schedule. I had to get a bike and it's been a life saver. Walking to school from my place is about 25-30minutes but on bike is just 10minutes. Some people actually use the bus and it serves them well, it all depends on your location and your schedule. Lest I forget, someone tried to steal my Benz grin (sorry my bike) two weeks ago. I usually lock the Benz just outside my apartment and the thieve was trying to cut the lock. I dey park the bike inside house. No stories

For calls and data, I was using T-Mobile when I first got here. I was paying $47/ month for unlimited national calls and messages with 4GB data which is their cheapest plan. The annoying part is that I don't even get to use any of this, most people prefer texting and it's delivered through iMessage except for the few that use other OS. Also, WiFi is almost everywhere and I only get to use the data when I'm riding with google map. I went online to find a solution and discovered RedPocket mobile. I had to port to RedPocket while retaining my number, right now I pay $15 for 1000 Minutes and 1000 Messages plus 1GB data. It serves me well and their network seems pretty good. I am even considering switching to their lowest plan of $10 for 500 calls and 500 Messages with 500MB.
Check there coverage for your area if you want to switch. The good thing is that they use T-Mobile reception, so it works wherever T-Mobile reception works.

For intending students coming here, school location should be one of your criterias when choosing a school because cost of living varies greatly from city to city (not just the state). What I am paying for rent now in long branch, NJ is twice what someone is paying in say Newark, NJ. Also, just so you know, there is always a limit to the number of roommates you're allowed to have and it's usually limited to two persons. Some places don't even allow roommates just like mine. But contrary to what I heard before coming here, most houses include heat, gas and other utilities in their rent. The closer the apartment to school the more expensive it is. So if you have a car you can stay some miles away from school at cheaper rate.

The one thing that breaks my heart is when I visit the barbershop. $18 for haircut and $3 dollar for shaving(Biko why would someone cut his hair without shaving). The same amount you spend on haircut you can use it to buy 4 packs of organic chicken labs and 1 pack has about 14 chicken labs(drumsticks). Sigh angry

Meanwhile, We just concluded the spring semester. The only thing that's on my mind now is how to make the best of this four months summer break. I'm yet to get an internship. Any ideas from the gurus is most welcome.
At Walmart a clipper goes for around >$50
