outliers: We also hope these guys you mentioned are okay and fine because it's been A Long while we heard from them, or maybe they've been shot due to the ravaging gun violence in the USA, or probably serving time out in jail due to shammarriages. Just saying!!! No offense! No shades!
This is why you will never set even one stinky toe on US soil. Just saying !!! No offense!!! No shades!!!
Oluwole Owolabi who claims to be among top 10 Notorious Thugs in Mushin area of Lagos State was unhappy that Nigeria hasn't changed after 30-yrs that he left the country.
The right thing when done at the wrong time is wrong; a lot of people have left their parents house unprepared for life in the world because someone challenged them to leave their comfort zone. What most people fail to realize is that the term "comfort ZONE" is not necessarily a geographic location. There's nothing wrong with living with one's parents until they are able to afford the expenses that comes with striking out on their own. Just don't get too comfortable living there though. I know a guy who lived with his parents till he turned 28. First time he left his parents house was for the US where he lives till date. This was largely possible because he was able to save up and take care of the expenses this move required while living there
Ogiandplantain: Good and I hope to be given a date to come for the 6th or 8th at the latest in the next week and a half hour for a while I will be out for a little while at the beach with my parents 3 I have to fill form and wait to be given a date for a wedding in July so that I don't have any class time in his hands claiming to be the first time that 30k is in a while so 30k and he will be in a good spot on his hands and his evil party will be the best way to get tested for free testing and a good girlfriend who will make the Lord a good thing for him as and to be a class of the lockdown of God who will give you his glory in the future
ifykris22: I told you guys dey don't treat migrants without health insurance over seas, especially in cases like this...
It would be nice if you don't make comments on a subject you have zero knowledge on. Don't say things based on hearsays on a public forum unless it's something you've personally experienced or have verified.
Sometime in 2018 I was sick and had no insurance at the time, I got medical attention first from an emergency room and then a few days later from a county hospital. I personally know a friend who got into an accident and had an emergency surgery, his bill was over 30k. It's not like this is free health care, no ER or hospital in the US turns you away; you get the needed medical attention and in a couple of weeks you get the bill in the mail
Which University is Free in Nigeria? And those so-called free Public Universities in Nigeria? Most are in very bad shape due to neglect and corruption.
Do you ever read of any University Staffs or lecturers going on endless strike in any University in the US unlike Nigeria
You never gonna win this argument, because it's against ignorant folks who based what say here on hearsays and what their friends or relatives who are illegal immigrants in Europe or America or folks might be going through and also individuals who are foolish enough to upload pages of their expired south Africa visiting visa stamps on here
No bro, previously you boasted of having a passport with multiple stamps, right now I'd if be surprised if you had a passport to start with. You know nothing besides blowing your trumpet and that of your imaginary friends that do N300million per annum. If you're interested in educating yourself about how the real estate market in the US functions refer to Google.com.
ps: This will be the last response I'll let my brain cells waste on you. Shalom!
sowilli: yes. Building is an easy thing to start. It’s a project anyone can embark on. Now, it may take years to finish but it’s a project with no hard regulation. How easy do you think it is to secure a property in the US compared to Nigeria?
This comment here shows you know nothing about acquiring a property in the US.
ibinaboonline: At least in Nigeria, if you keep away from certain places and stay indoors at certain times, you'll be fine. While in western countries like the US, some weirdo will just enter a pub and start shooting at rando, or some other wacko will just attack you with knives on the street in broad day light and for no reason.
Where did you get this news from? Well, That's the same way I heard SARS arrests and extorts any member of the beard gang
ibinaboonline: is that so? So all those mall shootings, church shootings school shootings drive-by shootings, car-ramming style of terrorism, street mugging, etc are all happening in fictional Gotham?
sowilli: No you are wrong. Read my post. If you are doing a certain amount you find it very hard to leave that place. Will Bill Gates leave America if America becomes Nigeria tomorrow. Why? He has created a niche for himself. When you create a niche for yourself? You don’t have any regrets about your decisions. A country is not rated based on amenities but by GDP which we can term “productivity of the people”. Whilst I will agree that sometimes there needs to be basic amenities for people to be productive, it is not a basic requirement. You should be able to innovate. Put simply then, Nigerians are not productive as one would expect. Reason for the non productivity can be seen from comments on this thread. Nigerians calling Nigeria shot hole on social media. You see where the problem is. You don’t have to have any regrets living in or leaving Nigeria!
Read my first post again and it is not in anyway stated that i have regrets of any kind(s) leaving Nigeria, if anything i hinted at being glad i lived in Nigeria because it contributed to who i am today.
when you talk about GDP, i want to assume you know the factors that affect GDP, relate these factors as to their presence or absence in Nigeria today. Again, CONNECT THE DOTS.
sowilli: if you didn’t understand my post, you didn’t need to mention me to start with. Who says you have to be rich to enjoy basic amenities. Where did I mentioned basic amenities? How many Nigerians travel because of basic amenities? If they ask you at the embassy, will you tell them you want to relocate because of basic amenities or Nigeria is a shit hole as you shout on Nairaland? Are the Nigerians committing Crimes and pushing drugs doing it because of basic amenities? See tell yourself the truth. Stop the complaints or regret talk. Live your life and let people be with their decisions!
You seem to misunderstand your self, in your first post you mentioned that individuals who make a certain amount of money aren't complaining about Nigeria. From my knowledge of the pay rate in Nigeria and the present economic state i know very few people make such amounts and if they did, they can be considered as being wealthy by Nigerian standards and that was why i mentioned being rich.
When i speak about basic amenities i do so because these are some the yard sticks by which economies and societies are judged. These are things that make an individuals life decent and a bit more comfortable. Can you imagine the US without power constant power supply, shitty education system or road networks as what is obtainable in Nigeria , but to mention a few , these are the things that make the western world attractive and better place to live. Everything is inter connected, connect the dots when you argue
sowilli: don’t be an Internet ediot by jumping into conclusion who you are replying to. Do you want me to snap my passport pages for you to see. I want to remain anonymous, would have uploaded pictures. The fact remains if you are doing 1 million in revenues, you don’t have a problem. For instance the minimum wage in South Africa is about 135k when converted to Naira but many of those guys earning minimum wage still live in slum. If you earn 135k in a state like ondo in Nigeria, you can live a decent life based on the Nigeria standards. Quality of life is relative and you need understand this that the fact that one decides to stay in Nigeria or leave Nigeria does not make one a fool. Nigeria is a people. Why have regrets about people you didn’t create? It’s about how you see life bro. Stop jumping into conclusions of who you are replying to, it tells you don’t have a good judgement skills. If you are doing 1 million in revenue, you can’t complain.... fact. I may not be doing 1 million but I believe I can
For someone who's not an "ediot, has good Judgement skills" and claims to be well travelled I'm baffled you'd think it's normal that a citizen of country has to make a certain amount of money before they can enjoy some basic social amenities. Nigeria is now meant for the rich?
sowilli: it’s not about me and how much I make. It’s about how much you have to make to see things differently. There are millions of people making over 1 million dollars annually. Have you left Nigeria before? You will see that those things you mentioned are taken from your pay through tax. Many things we don’t pay for here are paid for over there. You see why economies differ. If you can’t make that money, don’t complain. Who says it’s all about being rich. The point is you don’t have to have any regrets about your decisions. People who wallow in regrets don’t make anything out of life. That’s the point. Tell me about dreams? What makes one dream’s come through other than wisdom and passion. The ones who made it in Nigeria and the ones making it abroad will tell you same and one thing. Focus anywhere you are. The people complaining about naija or saying they have regrets staying or leaving can’t really make anything out of life. Take this anywhere. How many of your corrupt politicians would come online to read this thread? The point is thread as this don’t do any good!
The question is "have you left Nigeria before?" You say USD1M because it probably rings like N1M to your ears. Utility bills and taxes paid ensure amenities are maintained and available in western countries so yes, I'm fully aware of what I was talking about when I drew a correlation between been wealthy and quality of life.
Talking about things been free in Nigeria, whatever happened to the things not free? Some neighborhoods Still get light bills despite the the poor power supply, you hear stories of loots by ex government officials been recovered but these disappear unaccounted for.
At least we both agree on one thing, threads like this achieve nothing.
sowilli: there is no point other than the fact that many of you do less than 50 million per annum. If you are in this level. There will always be some complaint about naija.
HOW MUCH DO YOU MAKE EVERY 2 YEARS? How many Nigerians make a quarter of 50M per annum? how companies even make that much? The point here is not about being rich, not everyone is going die rich. In a sane society you dont have to be rich t enjoy the following
* Security *Quality healthcare *Good social amenities *Affordable clothing and Nutritious food *Quality education *Human rights The list is endless. . . I think the point is about the quality of life and living in a society where your dreams stand a chance of coming through
NonEthniCITY: After I finished my high school in 2005, I wanted to work and make money, so I was directed to a now defunct bank(Ecobank Sapele Road Branch, Benin City) to meet someone there to get a job as a janitor.
I went there and met this man, he told me my salary will be N6, 000, but I must pay him N4,000 cash before I get the job. I told him I had no money as I just finished my high school and then told him to deduct it from my first salary in that case - it was as if I insulted him by saying that. He said no way that he is going to have to give the job to someone who can pay him. That was how I didn't get that job. It changed a whole lot for me at that point.
Fast forward to about 15 years later, I landed in America with an immigrant visa. All I needed to apply for a job was a social security number (other than my visa). Started applying for different one online. I even got one without an interview - all that was needed to know was that I was legal, drug-free and able to work. That was it! No bribe, no payment of any sort.
Now, among many other injustices and harsh life the average Nigerian man and woman has to endure, tell me why I should regret leaving. Listen, I am not saying my life is perfect here, but I have a lot to be grateful for.
My only regret is not being able to bring all my family with me.
After NYSC, i got a sales job in a bank paying 40k , monthly target was was 1M. i wore out two pairs of shoes trekking all over town, my hair turned brown from the sun. I resigned after 3 months to save my life. After spending the next 2 months in recovery, i got another job in a one man organization, the pay was 30k; now i basically ended up being an errand boy though my job role was administrative officer, well, i guess i was the administrative errand boy. One of my lowest moments working their was the day the boss had me do his wife( full time house wife ) grocery shopping. Prior to this i'd always get gas for his power gen' set at home when i get off work and buy his lunch. Being owed salary till the second week of the month was normal, after which i'd be paid 25 or 25k out of 30k, with the balance to be paid later.
There are days i reminisce, and i still have no idea how i managed to survive in Nigeria all my life.
The question should be " What are your regrets not leaving Nigeria?"
PS: However, on the flip side i think we'd all agree that Nigeria made us the people we are today or still hope to become
sealleone: Hi guys, in 2015 I been post about a friend wey wan enter US through the community college system and a lot of guys in the house had negative comments about the whole thing. Some of them give legit reasons out of ignorance, cos wetin person no know him no know. I just wan update them in case them still dey here dey give advice...2015 the guy got the admission to study nursing in rural America, visa was approved in May 2015, started prerequisites as soon as him enter, 2018 got ASN registered nurse, 2019 after 1year online BS got BSN, now he's in a DNP program which will last approx 3 years, married and Got his green card approved last month...green application card took 3 months. I dey share this for all the dreamers with legit reasons to migrate to 1st world countries, no let anybody wey dey form I too know ruin your dreams. My story don finish, make una wey be advicers for this forum no dey trample on people dreams because Dem share am for advice, so give advice not shove your opinions down Dem throat. Naija for life, stay true to the hustle guys.
I believe you also know how much has changed as regards immigration policies ( written and unwritten ) in the last 5 years?
iwriterng: If you're in America already, you do NOT need a visa. The ban is on Immigrant VISA. You only need VISa to enter the country, you dont need a visa to stay in the country.
Violating the terms of a non immigrant visa makes you go out of status, so I think you need a visa to stay in a country legally. Unless you adjust your immigration status or leave the US as is stipulated by the terms of your visa... But What do I know?
NihiIist: Dude shey na English be your problem or na cotonou you grow up? Listen to yourself again "there is nothing wrong if a lady tells you she is coming to visit you but fails to show up. This could be because she does not trust you "
If she doesn't trust then why did she make the promise at the first instance? Why did she reject my calls and even went as far as switching off her phone? This one just dey reason like woman sha.
You're trying to sound intelligent but you're not. If my intentions are genuine how? I only blocked her because of her reaction, her deceit and her cunny behaviour. If you couldn't make it again, you could have just picked the damn call and tell me what's wrong. Rejecting a guys call in such situation makes him look so foolish.
Moreover it's no coincidence Nigerian girls do this thing alot. I'm not the only one at least 80% of naija guys must have been through it. I see no reason why you dey support this kind foolishness honestly
Not everybody can be blunt, i don't claim to be intelligent but i assume any intelligent guy should know that when she says she is coming over but fails to show up then it could mean she probably didn't want to hurt your feelings by say no from the word go and is hoping you'd figure this out yourself rather than coming on nairaland to lament Abusing me on here doesn't change the truth, you are obviously pained because a girl was smart enough to discern your negative intentions, not every girl is cheap, not every girl would go visiting a guy they barely know well or don't trust enough or feel safe being alone with, i am not intelligent yet i got all this figured out already. You failed to answer my question; if your male friend was gonna pay you a visit but stood you up would you be pissed enough to block his number?
NihiIist: You invite a girl to come over, she promises you. Because of her, you quickly arrange your house, clean everywhere, wash your toilet clean, lay your bed and spray airfreshner. You even down a bottle of alomo bitters and all sorts of concoction just in case.
The time for her to come is here as you agreed and well you decided to give her about an hour or so maybe she'll show up but she doesn't.
You call her phone to ask her whatsup, she's not picking, some will even switch off their phone.
Pls if you know you wouldn't come, you shouldn't have made the promise. It's nothing but wickedness
I am surprised to read the comments this post is getting, there is nothing wrong if a lady tells you she is coming to visit you but fails to show up. This could be because she does not trust you enough to be alone with you or something else came up, but either ways no lady owes you a visit. Girls are being raped everyday just because they decided to "come over" . if you had a sister would you be comfortable if she told you she was going to visit any of the guys who have been lamenting on this thread? If you know your intentions are genuine you won't have to block a girls phone just because she didn't show up... would you block your guys number just because he didn't "come over" ( well, unless you are gay )
Koats14: Denied Visa Transcript Location: Lagos Consulate Date/Time: January 2nd, 2020. 6.45AM
V. O: Good morning. Pass me your i20 and sevis receipt.
Me: Good morning (passes them)
V. O: why are you going to the US?
Me: I am going for my masters in Organisational communication in Bowie State University, Maryland, USA.
V. O: Why Bowie State University?
Me: I chose Bowie state university because it offers each individual student more interaction time with their instructor. Also, my coordinator, Dr. XXXXX area of research aligns with mine as he focuses on how communications affects certain race, gender and communities. I also searched usnews, com and mastersincommunications, com and there, Bowie state university has ratings of 4 out of 5 reviews.
V. O: Why Organisational communication?
Me: I'm very passionate about leadership and interacting with people. This program will enable me acquire skills on groups and organizational communications, issues and crisis management, mediation, conflict management and effective communication. This will enable me work as a human resource personnel in one of the top organizations in Nigeria and also help me be a voice for young women and orphans who have experienced some level of life's difficulties in my home country, Nigeria.
V. O: okay... What school did you get your bachelor's degree from?
Me: University of Ilorin, Nigeria.
V. O: what course did you study?
Me: History and International Studies.
V. O: okay... (starts typing) (on my I20, it was there that my tuition & fees/expenses will be paid by my family in Maryland, USA) The V. O saw it and asked... Uhm. Family in Maryland, who is this family in Maryland?
Me: My uncle's family.
V.O: Uncle from where?
Me: my maternal uncle, he is my mother's younger brother.
V. O: *types continuously* Where does he live?
Me: I said the address
V. O: continues typing even while I mentioned the address, and then after typing, he brought out the pink slip and was like... Sorry, you are not eligible now. Try again later.
What could have gone wrong? On my I20, there is a Total funding of $23k (out of which tuition & fees, $11.8k) which will be paid for by my uncle. I wasn't even asked to present any document (SOA, sponsorship letter or the likes).
PS: Not mine, but for someone I helped prepare for the interview. cc Twoods, Lagosismyhome
"My Family in Maryland" that sounds premeditated intent to emigrate
