Is it a spiritual problem? How do I go about stopping it?
FamilyRe: Nigerian Men & 'Come To My House' Syndrome by sirkezman: 11:11pm On Jun 18, 2015
you fail to highlight the main problem. Nigerian girls dont understand the meaning of a date. going on a date must not necessarily be expensive but 9ja girls dont know this. Also you invite a girl on a date and she shows with 2 of her friends. for heaven sake.. is it a date or get together. when you consider all these, you understand its not really about the nigerian men but also the ladies. i still go on dates but i make it clear to the lady before hand that its just for two of us and no third party.

swagloverss:
It was intended to be a simple PM on my BBM but the number of furious replies I got indicated that I had to expand my reach. The said PM was – “Naija men with come to my house, come to my house.” Is there seriously no young man who can advise his fellow men on dating etiquettes? Help us plssssss”

I sincerely felt that I was alone in this predicament till I started getting pings from people who were even more angry about it than I was. And then I realized that this is a general epidemic.

Now, I had different responses from people and I will attempt to put those responses into consideration and not be too streamlined with my views.

Most of the males who responded to my PM agreed with the fact that their brothers are not representing the male folks as well as they should in this area but one of the men made a case for our culture being the reason for this predicament.

According to him, Nigerians do not see the home as a private place and can invite just about anyone into their home. He also talked about the mentality that has been deeply ingrained in us – some men just don’t think that going on dates is necessary, or rather, “we can meet up at my house, there’s no need to go through all that white culture ish” (paraphrased)

As much as I understand where he was coming from and I agree with him that the Nigerian mentality has a lot to bear with this situation. I also think that there are two reasons why the “come to my house issue” is so rampant today.

(1) Some men just don’t think that it’s necessary to go through all that stress in wooing a lady anymore.

A friend of mine actually said that chivalry is dead in response to my PM but I am a positive person, so I refuse to believe that there is no single man on this earth who knows how to take a woman on a date and win her heart slowly – no, there must surely be such men left on earth. (yes, I am rooting for the male folks)

Some Nigerian men just believe that all that “taking a woman to a lovely restaurant and stuff” is for “oyibo people“. I mean, you will be surprised at the number of educated men who would invite you to their house at first meeting.

The man who inspired my PM is a lecturer. Another man who contributed to my cry for help studied law as a first degree. He is involved in media and publicity for a while, and is a called pastor… so you can go figure out the thing about education being a way to raise up people with a modern outlook on things.

(2) 80 % of the men who invite ladies to come to their house at first meeting have no good intentions at heart.

Now, I have to be very careful with how I say this, because I understand like my male friend stated above: that for some men, inviting a lady to their house at first meeting just doesn’t mean anything to them.

They weren’t raised with the mentality that the home is a private place. So even if they just met a lady they are interested in, they can hang out at their house as a first date – with no ulterior motive involved on their part. So yes, I agree that those kind of men exist.

We don’t need to go deep down into stories do we? Or maybe we do. Listen carefully and you will hear stories from the lady who has true stories to tell on how she had to fend off SERIOUS sexual advances just because she believed a man who said he had no ulterior motive for inviting her to his house.

Some of our female friends won’t open up to us but some ladies have been raped because of the “come to my house syndrome”. They cower in shame and guilt, berating their selves that they should have known better than to go to his house. And the society doesn’t make it easy on them too.

Most people would say things like – “Why did you go to his house? That’s a sign that you wanted the sexual act to happen” So the victims keep quiet and bottle up the hurt and shame inside.

What about the guy that tells you to just come into his house while he dresses up so you both can go out and then, under the guise of that excuse starts drawing close for a kiss?

So the “come to my house syndrome” is a serious one. Aside from the serious underlying issues of ladies who have had sad stories of sexual assault and rape to tell, it also begs for a total overhauling of the way some Nigerian men view wooing a lady – an overhauling of faulty dating mentalities.

If the woman was to be a street lady, we might pardon you, but no, you see a decent lady with her worth shining through and you just don’t want to put in an effort into treating her like the jewel that she is.

What would it take for you to take the natural order of the way things should be in cultivating a relationship with her?
Would a time out at a restaurant be too much to ask? It doesn’t even have to be a classy restaurant – just a neutral place where you both can talk that’s not your house.

So I plead again, don’t we have young mighty men of valor who can advise their fellow men on dating etiquettes? Men who can organize classes and teach their fellow men these things – if it comes to that.

Or maybe I should be pleading with our churches too. Almost every church organizes programmes for ladies on how to be virtuous women, how to behave themselves while on a date, etc. Can’t such programmes be held for men too? Women aren’t the only ones who need to be groomed, men need to be groomed too.

So gentlemen, I sincerely still believe that there are a lot of you who are getting it right in the area of what I just talked about.
Please teach your fellow men about these things, we will be absolutely grateful to you all.

Signed,
The community of ladies who are tired of the “come to my house syndrome”

FamilyRe: See What A Girl Posted About Sex, Spirituality & Marriage On Facebook by sirkezman: 12:32pm On Jun 18, 2015
dont be too quick too judge her. she might even be a virgin. She spoke the truth and its better to be blunt. She never encouraged sex before marriage. she said 'discuss' which is right. its better to know what u r getting into when you can still rectify it than get into it without preparation and end up like GEJ

Tallesty1:
Stuffs you think when you become uncontrollably addicted to sex.

I am just sick and tired of all these relationship advisers who think that one thing is more important than the other in a relationship or marriage.

After sex then what?

It is girls with this mentality that are sold on their idea that "Sex Would Make Him Stay".

I know that making love is an important part of a happy marriage. It also has many health benefits but this girl's approach no be am. She sounds like she's got all the experience.

Won't be surprised if you tell me that she is a baby mama.
PoliticsRe: EFCC Arrests Ikedi Ohakim, Ex-Imo Governor by sirkezman: 12:28pm On Jun 18, 2015
I guess im the only one tired of arrests without conviction. since 1999, we can count how many public service holders convicted for fraud by efcc. i doubt if they are up to or more than 5. So does that mean our judiciary system is 'faulty' or Efcc don't have good lawyers or that our politicians are not corrupt? Im just fed up with all this to be honest. the last one convicted was told to pay back 1/10000 of the loot, i wonder how that works

msccchhew

ademoladeji:
A former governor of Imo State, Ikedi Ohakim, has been arrested by the Economic and FINANCIAL Crimes COMMISSION, EFCC.

Mr. Ohakim, governor between 2007 and 2011, was arrested Thursday at about 10.05 am at his residence in the Asokoro district of Abuja.

A source at the commission said an invitation was sent to the former governor but that he failed to turn up Wednesday as advised.

EFCC operatives, who had been on his trail for days, our source said, stormed his residence Thursday and drove him in an unmarked car to the commission’s headquarters in the Maitama district of the nation’s CAPITAL.

He is currently being detained, with his interrogation expected to begin later in the day.

The source said the former governor has questions to answer concerning a number of PROPERTY allegedly traced to him.

Also, a former governor of Jigawa State, Sule Lamido, has willingly surrendered himself for questioning almost the same time Mr. Ohakim was brought into the EFCC’s headquarters in Abuja.

He is currentl‎y been quizzed by the commission’s operatives over alleged bribery and MONEY laundering offences.

then u shdnt bother. that is not your house rent. you will start paying your house rent from august or september based on the agreement..

Cmanforall:
I paid deposit fee to confirm the agreement.
TravelRe: Studying In Finland (free Tuition) by sirkezman: 1:55pm On Jun 17, 2015
na Oulu i go eventually settle for be that. Thanks boss.. trying to get contacts from Joensuu too and will see if that option will work. if not then, Oulu it is. Yea her date of arrival is Aug 1 so her RP should be ready sometimes in July. but we will see to that sha.

Mehn i never know how summer wan be o.. i still de pursue one job and i hope it clicks.. na that one go determine my movement.. owo ni koko cheesy

iceberg54:
Boss, When did she state as date of arrival to FI?. I think they should follow that date. So if she stated any date in August, then they would most likely give her from August 1.

So if she's arriving late August, and she's given from Aug 1, then she can write them that she will be arriving Sept 1. Tenancy always starts on 1st of every month like u knw, so u cant start from any other day in between. Then they will cancel that offer and most likely give her another one starting sept 1. And it also depends on how fexible those guys are.

But since dashing them money isn't an option, if she can stay briefly with someone in Joensuu before Sept 1, then thats fine. Or else, she go enter Oulu be that.

Cheers boss!....You no dey enter our side for summer?
TravelRe: Studying In Finland (free Tuition) by sirkezman: 1:53pm On Jun 17, 2015
accommodation fee or deposit fee? they are two different fees you know. so which one did you pay?
Cmanforall:
Is it late to defer my accommodation fee?

I just asked someone to help me with his dom account (as billydragon suggested). And the guy has done it.

The fact that I'm starting on 1st september gives me worry, cos I'm gonna dash ds ppl the August pay...

What can I do now? If I'm to enter September....

Iceberg baba. How far? i need your advice on this situation. My lil sis will get to finland (by God's grace) by the end of August. Now i am confused about the house ish. like is she going to get an apartment starting from september or August. Going with August means she will just dash these ppl money and i no wan that, what do you suggest?. Another option is for her to come to Oulu first and then go to joensuu on the 1st of sept. but i think that will be kinda stressful. what do you suggest?

iceberg54:
I dont think its right for anyone to pay for house rent now without your RP. Most especially cos u will pay for August when most likely the RP might not be ready yet.
Send them an email that u r yet to get a permit. And when u do get, u can write them back, they'll give u another one. At least HOAS does that...

no. i doubt if UAF will accept notification of degree result. the thing is, our ppl don spoil finland with fake result so they are kinda skeptical about nigerians. i think thats even one of the reasons why UG students from nigeria cant even apply anymore. sorry about that but you are ready for next year. just start saving so you can apply to as many schools as possible. All the best

kissmylips:
Hey guys ,wats up. Been on observing mode. congrats to dose of us dat got admitted,n d rest of us dat didn't get ,best of luck tryin again.

@sirkezman,pls do u knw any1 dat got admitted wit 'notification of degree result' ? Cos dat ws d excuse I got from UAF though,d skools I applied to capitalized on my incomplete status on my UAF account.

On the other hand,I should b tru wit my service nxt month, planing on moving to Lagos any tips on surviving in Lagos would b of great help at least till August 2016.

in Finland generally from what i have heard, the chance of getting a normal job is very slim. prolly less than 20% of africans work for companies here. some are start ups.. some work in school.. research and phd while the bulk are into menial jobs.

As a non finn, if you have a non finn partner and una born here, the kid assume your nationality and not finnish.
To bring your partner in from nigeria sef na story. but even with student visa u can take ur partner to canada

then the language barrier..

So many things bro.. when you enter you go know more cheesy

Apart from the language and more opportunities for menial jobs what other factors influenced ur statement above.

well said

anyicent:
According to the purpose of traveling the Uniform Schengen Visa applies to all of the three categories, “A”, “B” and “C”.
“A” category stands for the Airport Transit Visa which allows its holder to travel through the international zone of the Schengen Country Airport without entering the Schengen Country Area. Airport transit visa is mandatory for the citizens travelling from one non-Schengen state to another non-Schengen state through a change of flights in a Schengen Country airport.
“B” category stands for the Transit Visa which allows its holder to transit within no more than 5 days through more than one Schengen country by car, coach or plane on the way to a non-Schengen country.

“C” category stands for a Short-term visa which allows its holder to reside in a Schengen Country for a certain period of time depending on the visa validity. This particular category, according to the holder’s purpose of the travel can be obtained in a form of:
Single-entry visa allows its holder to enter a Schengen country only once for the certain period of time. Once you leave the certain Schengen country you entered the visa validity expires even if the time period allowed to stay in the country is not over yet.
Double-entry visa applies for the same policy as above mentioned however you are allowed to enter the Schengen country twice meaning that for the certain period of time permitted by your visa you can enter the Schengen country, leave and enter again without any problems. Once you are out of the country for the second time the visa expires.
Multiple-entry visa allows its holder to go in and out of the Schengen country as pleased. However this visa allows its holder to stay in a Schengen Zone for maximum 90 days within half the year, starting from the day one crosses the border between a Schengen member country and the non-Schengen member country.

The national visa of “D” category is granted to the certain individuals who are to be studying, working or permanently residing in one of the Schengen countries. The national visa can be of a single entry, granted for the people who are in need of residing in the Schengen country for a certain period of time and for a sole purpose after which they shall return to their country. On the other hand a multi-entry national visa is also granted for certain individuals allowing its holder to travel in and out of this Schengen country as he/she pleases and also travel throughout the whole Schengen Area without additional visa requirements.

yea.. thinking of that too.. but i will need a reason to change my address. Oulu will just collect your application and dump it till maybe after 3 months before they treat it. unless you are travelling and have booked your ticket, then you have to go every month to remind them. i think i will try the online route.. to see wch is faster...
iceberg54:
Wow...thats crazy.....even espoo and Helsinki poliisi aren't that bad. Except u are changing to A. Though they also sometimes waste time. I went to a poliisi in a suburb last year... lol.....they are practically idle....doing same this year.

exactly.. but in Oulu, the earliest i have heard is 3 months. people had to go to poliisi almost every time before a decision was made. hence why i am thinking of the online parole.. Oulu is the worst part of finland.

Boss, people hardly use online for extension. Used paper last year and got it in 2 weeks. Though it depends on the Police station u use, if they aren't too busy.

I submitted on 29th of April, and I got the decision on the 9th of June, which is about 6 weeks, though it was suppose to be 3 weeks cos the consular told me on the day I came for my fingerprint that I will get the decision within 3 weeks, after the 3rd week I called the Finish immigration and I was told my application is on queue due to shortage of staffs. I applied through the paper based at the embassy, but I will advice if you applying from Nigeria to apply through the Online means cos it is more faster for applicants very far away from Finland.
