Migrating to pulse should help your sms and call rates. 11k per second and 4 naira per sms

@OP Na so we see am o bro. After glo stopped 1k for 3.5 gb i migrated to Mtn... After 2 months i had to migrate back.

Spent 21k within those 2 months. My glo data that I'm using to type is 1700 for 4.5 gb. And I've been using it for almost 2 weeks despite moderate usage

Mtn is horrible. They deserve all the fines slapped on them.
The fines slapped on them is not doing anything, bro.

They will just go behind to bribe a senator and that is it. Our country's authorities are our biggest bane 100%.

I just wish Glo had a good enough network here. But no wahala, it's now cheat time since they don't value my patronage.

Take heart dear. My own is voice call charge. Do you know mtn charge me N12 per sms. Who would 8 complain to.
You should migrate to MTN pulse if you want to continue using their services. 12/SMS is ridiculous!

Crime / Mtn's Daylight Robbery Is Going Up A Notch! by sirOrubebe: 11:12pm On Aug 09, 2019
Fellow Nairalanders, I am creating this thread in the crime section because what I am about to complain about is no different from a crime.

I know many will trivialize it and probably nothing will be done about it.

But I want to know why our country is like this?

How can we allow a foreign company to come in here and rip us off without regulatory bodies doing anything about it despite all the complains?

It's weighing my heart down!

Here's my grouse...

I don't try touching MTN at all when it comes to browsing data because their data burns faster than harmattan fire (every man and his dog knows this).

I normally use Airtel because I consume data a lot and I want to see value for my money. Airtel is not perfect, but at least when I do the 5K plan it can last me for up to 3 weeks despite heavy usage.

I now moved temporarily to a village because of work. On getting here I discovered there is no Airtel network -- just Glo and MTN.

The Glo is not steady at all and very slow.

I grudgingly dug out my MTN sim and started to use it. Can you imagine that these clowns have not given me a moment's rest since I started to subscribe?

I noticed this and decided to go light on what I do with my data. There are sometimes I will even put off my phone when I have no business with it just to conserve data.

Things came to a crux this week...

Just about 3 days ago, I subscribed with 2K for the 3.5GB plan. Yesterday, my phone was off for majority of the day. Since buying this plan, I have done my best to minimize usage. No watching of YouTube videos, social media videos etc. Because I scolded myself for like also being the cause of my frequent subscription.

But despite my self-embargo and all, this time around, these clowns are sending me a message this night that my data is remaining only 718MB.

What sort of injustice is this?

Can you imagine the absolute callousness?

Men, I am pained. And since no one in power is listening. Since I can't hit MTN in any other way, I am making it clear in public that from now till the end of this year I am not going to pay a kobo for data on MTN but I will browse to my heart's content with their network.

Since they want to do dark arts, let's do it together. Rubbish.

My rant is over -- now I am a bit appeased!

Nairaland / General / Strive Masiyiwa: We Have A Continent To Change! by sirOrubebe: 6:31pm On Mar 22, 2017
Do you know how to make money in the new economy?

__It's kid stuff!

The other day a dear friend of ours dropped by our home in South Africa. Her 14-year old son was born about the same time as our youngest daughter, and they went to kindergarten together. I will call him "John" for the sake of this little story, which is otherwise all true.

"John is quite an entrepreneur," his mother began proudly. Well, naturally all mothers are proud of their kids, so why should she be any different?

Anyway, she continued: "Sometimes he makes up to R5,000 building social media profiles, and selling them."

"He does what?!" I exclaimed.

"Oh, that's nothing, Strive. That's just when he needs pocket money."

"Okay... What else does he do?"

"He recently negotiated a deal for a certain type of toy from India, to supply customers in South Africa"

"He what?!"

"Well, he goes on the Internet and does research on products and prices, and finds the cheapest sources for things like cricket bats, and other things that kids like," she said.

"Recently he found some very unusual sneakers that all the kids wanted, and he bought them, and resold them immediately for twice the price."

"You are talking about John, and not his dad?" I asked quietly, just to be sure.

"John sometimes asks his dad to represent him, when he needs an adult."

"Ehehe!... He hires his own father!"

"Look, John isn't the only kid out there who knows how to make money from the Internet."

And at that point, I burst out laughing: "On that point you're right! Joe Gebbia, Brian Chesky, Nathan Blecharczyk (Airbnb co-founders); Evan Spiegel, Reggie Brown and Bobby Murphy (Snapchat co-founders) and of course, Mark Zuckerberg!" I exclaimed.

"These guys are just kids when compared to people like me. And yet they have already built businesses that are bigger than the GDP of most African countries!"

But here's the most exciting "take away":

"John" is an African child. Just like Anesi, and his brother, Osine, from Nigeria who I wrote about in 2015. Remember them? The kids who built a browser before they were even teenagers?

This means that the next Zuckerberg is probably living in your house, toddling around already playing with Lego and maybe imagining robots or beyond!

In my own home, our youngest daughter does all the "tech stuff"! When our guys finished the Kwese.com website, I called her over and said, "Is this any good?"

She went into the corner and said, "Pretty cool, but I would change this and this."

"Let me get my notebook, baby."

"I will charge you!" she laughed.

"Name your price."

I asked a simple question: "Do you really know how to make money in the new economy?"

In the new economy, it will be about our ability to let go of old mindsets about wealth, and wealth creation. We must not only equip our kids; we must trust them with our very future.

At the end of this week, do a little review and examine what you did with your smartphone:

Which websites did you visit, and why?

# Was it to find out something?
# Was it to sell or buy something?
# Was it to be entertained?
# Was it to keep in touch with friends, and family?

__If it was primarily social, then either change your habits, or you will work for "John" one day... (And that might not be so bad, because at least you will have a job.)

In all the things you do on the Internet, did any make you money, develop your career or kick start your business venture?

Think about little John. He's 14 years old, and already he understands the new economy. Wow!

Let's get to work! We have a continent to change... Fast!

End.

Travel / Re: Xenophobia: See What This Kenyan Living In RSA Has To Say by sirOrubebe: 1:21pm On Mar 18, 2017
About 5 days ago, I became friends with a South African guy who lives in Johannesburg, We met at a digital marketing mastermind online.

He is quite intelligent and purposeful. It made me wonder what separates this guy from his other brethren who engage in this xenophobic mess. I got it – my bro is enlightened. Not just because he went to school, but because he has opened his mind to learning every day.

When I compare his actions with the actions of other non-Nigerian African friends I have been privileged to have, I see a pattern that is congruent, and I have hope for the future of mother Africa.

Young progressive Africans do not care where another African bro (or sis) is from (as long as they are Africans) we consider ourselves as one – we share similar fates.

I like this part of Hazel's article:

...as Africans, we hold a history that is similar in one way or another. We are all trying to understand what it means to belong to a continent that was taken from us and then difficulty reclaimed. We are all trying to rid ourselves of the ideals that colonialism entrenched within us. All in all, we are surviving and looking forward to the day we can be submerged in the fullness of life...

These young, progressive Africans like Strive Masiyiwa (lord bless him) are working and striving day and night to make Africa a leading light. To pull Africa out of the murky waters of backwardness that we have long found ourselves swimming in for so long now.

So while we condemn the act of those involved in this xenophobic debacle, we should also condemn the acts of those young Africans (especially my Nigerian brothers) who have chosen the path of quick wealth.

We need Africa to grow and for that to happen, we need to rid this continent of vices like internet fraud, ritual killings, drug peddling, inhumane treatments etc. They are shameful acts and sabotaging the efforts of well-meaning Africans.

My name is _____________ and the quest to make Africa a leading light is (one of) my passion(s).
