Manchester United Vs Barcelona UCL 10 April Preview
The moment we’ve all been waiting for is finally at hand. Two of football’s most illustrious clubs face off tonight as Manchester United lock horns with Spanish champions Barcelona for the first leg of their Champions League quarter final at Old Trafford.

Manchester United go into the game as overwhelming underdogs but the United faithfuls will be hoping for an unlikely masterclass. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who was just handed the permanent manager role at the Manchester club, will be looking to put some smiles on the faces of all supporters of the illustrious club.

Last time out in the first knockout phases of the UEFA Champions League, the Red Devils produced a memorable comeback against French champions Paris Saint Germain, thanks to a spirited display from Rashford and Lukaku.

1999… Does that year ring any bells? United fans? It was that same year Ole Gunnar Solskjaer enjoyed the best moment of his playing career right at the Nou Camp, scoring a last gasp winner to seal the Champions League title and indeed the treble for his side.

In truth, Ole’s side have been really poor in recent weeks, winning just two games in their last five and losing the remaining three.

For all their struggles since the Champions League win in Paris, there’s this feeling that they could come away with something against Barcelona and the supporters will be relishing the prospect of an upset.

Barcelona on the other hand, have swept every single team aside in the La Liga this season and seem to be running away with the title. The La Liga title is beginning to seem like a birthright for the Catalan club in recent years, winning the accolade five times in the previous six years.

However, the five-time Champions League champions have fallen at this quarterfinal stage of the competition in each of the past three seasons since last lifting the trophy in 2015.

Nonetheless, Barcelona remain overwhelming favourites to advance to the semifinals of the competition as bookmakers continue to tip the Spanish giants for the win.

You just get the feeling that the first goal, if there indeed is one, will be very crucial to the whole complexion of the game as both teams battle for the win at Old Trafford tonight.

Hold onto your hats, football fans! This promises to be a spectacular game!

Man Dragged to Police Station for Using the Cardless Transaction Option on the ATM
A young man by the name Azeez Morufu was reportedly handed to the police after withdrawing from the ATM without an ATM card.

The man was said to be in a dirty clothes and it surprised the people by the queue who were yet to know about the card less transaction that banks offer.

The man was apprehended and dragged by the people around to the police station, afraid that he had done something illegal. This happened in around Dugbe area in Ibadan, Oyo State Nigeria. The man was taken to a Iyaganku Police division in the same city. There have not been news of his release yet.

A young man was caught collecting money from an Automated Teller Machine, ATM, points of one of the new generation banks beside Radio Nigeria, Dugbe, Ibadan machine without using a card.

Radio Nigeria reports that the young man, Azeez Morufu said the incident was not the first time he would be carrying out the nefarious act.
Speaking with Radio Nigeria, Morufu said he has a code he always input on the ATM to dispense without a card.
Morufu Azeez met his Waterloo when a passer-by saw him with a huge amount of money at the machine.
The witness explained that she became suspicious when he noticed the young man in dirty clothes withdrawing huge amount from the ATM.
The suspect has however been handed over the police.

Osinbajo Calls on CBN, NDIC to Take Over N-Power, Tradermoni, Others

Osinbajo wants CBN, NDIC to take over NPOWER, Trader Moni and other FG’s SIPs.

He stressed the need for fresh ideas that would produce a more resilient structure involving the NDIC and other relevant stakeholders to addressing the issue of non-performing loans in the industry.

He also warned that the Federal Government was not prepared to repeat the mistakes of the past in the sector.

On financial inclusion, the vice president said the government was desirous for millions of poor Nigerians to be empowered through the extension of credit.

He called for concerted efforts of the relevant institutions including the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and the NDIC to come up with a framework that would facilitate the funding of Federal Government social intervention programmes.

He listed some of the programmes to include the N-Power, Trader-Money, and Market-Money, which according to him would alleviate the suffering of millions of Nigerians.

In the same vein, the Chairman of the Board thanked the Vice President for his warm reception.

Sokefun recalled that the NDIC as a critical player in the Nigerian financial safety-net, had achieved remarkable success in the execution of its primary mandates of effective supervision of the insured banks.

She said the corporation had also ensured timely payments of insured deposits and the implementation of a robust and efficient failure resolution regime.

20 Feared Dead in Fresh Suspected Bandit Attack in Kaduna
According to reports by the Nation, at least twenty people have been killed by suspected Fulani Herdsmen in Ungwan Aku Village, Kajuru Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

Suspected Bandits Burn Down Police Station, Kills Two Policemen and Two Residents In Kaduna State
No fewer than four people, two policemen and also two residents were murdered when suspected bandits burnt down a police station in Kakangi village, Gwari Local Government area of Kaduna state this past weekend.

Father and Son Nabbed for Impregnating Teenage Girls In Lagos State

The Lagos state police command has apprehended a 44-year-old man identified as Kabiru Oke and his son simply identified as Farouq, aged19, for alleged serial rape and impregnating a teenager who lived with her aunt, the man’s wife.

The police stated that the girl was raped over a period of four months at their 1, Olatikupo Street, Egbeda residence.

The victim of the rape had earlier reported the matter to her aunt who always shut her up and covered up for her husband in order to avoid the implications.

Instagram user @adana_chelle, two days ago showcased pictures of a young man in the above picture whom she identified as Mr Adebayo Gbadebo. A teacher at Isolog Primary School in Ogun State. She claimed this man raped and molested students within the age range 9 – 10 and was allowed to go scot free although the proprietress knew about his terrible acts.

The man in question was sacked by the head teacher of the school but no formal report was made to the police force or human rights agency. 19 People Confirmed Dead and 38 Others Injured In Fatal Road Accident In Katsina

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has publicly confirmed that no fewer than 19 persons have died and 38 other persons were injured in a ghastly road accident on Daudawa-Funtua road in Faskari Local Government Area of Katsina State earlier on Friday, April 5th.

The FRSC Sector Commander in Katsina state identified as Godwin Ngeuku, made the confirmation to newsmen on Friday afternoon in Katsina state.

Godwin Ngeuku stated that the tragic incident happened on Friday morning at Daudawa, few kilometres to Funtua Local Government Area of Katsina State involving a Mitsubishi vehicle.

The FRSC sector commander in Katsina state revealed that the driver lost control of the vehicle while speeding, skidded off the road, somersaulted and killed some passengers on the spot.

In a sane community where leaders and followers co-exist, where the flag
bearers and the supporters subsist, where the politicians and the voters
reside, who owns the power? It is believed that power is clenched in the
fists of the rulers as they use it to oppress the masses. The masses will
continue to be under oppression and molestation until they realize the true
source of power. The masses gave the power to the leader through their
votes; they are the owners of the power the leader claims to have. Lord
Acton opines that; “Power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts
absolutely”. Lord Acton’s statement seems to be in operation in Nigeria as
the power given to our leaders has corrupted them. A governor gets the cars
in his convoy with taxpayers’ money and uses the same car to kill a citizen.
This is the highest form of public oppression and harassment.
Deep in the midst of the scuffle between Academic Staff Union of
Universities (ASUU) and the Federal Government (FG), ASUU
lost a sage to the cold hands of death. The death of former President of
ASUU, Prof. Festus Iyayi came as a shock to all and sundry, as the
cock crew in Benin in the wee hours of the morning on November 12,
2013, he was hale and hearty beaming with smiles, little did he know that
that day was going to be his last. Death snatched the academician from
our hands in a way we least expected, no premonitions about his death all
we knew was that he was on his way to Kano for National Executive
Committee (NEC) meeting of ASUU. The news moved from the
North to the South, from the West to the East that the don of Business
Management is gone. On Lokoja-Abuja highway, one of the cars in the
convoy of Kogi State Governor, Idris Wada rammed into Iyayi’s car
which caused his death. The frivolous and the exuberant state of life of a
chauffeur made us lose a renowned activist.
The list of deaths caused by the convoy of top public office holders is
alarming and getting out of hand. In 1995, the convoy of the then
Communications Minister, the late Abubakar Rimi was responsible for the
killing of two school children near Lagos airport. In 2011, the convoy of
Katsina State Governor, Ibrahim Shema was involved in an automobile
accident which claimed the lives of five persons including the aide-de-camp
to the governor. On April 28, 2012, the convoy of Edo State governor,
Adams Oshiomole was involved in a gruesome auto-accident which resulted
in the death of three journalists with four journalists seriously injured. On
September 24, 2012, Nasarawa State Governor, Umaru Tanko Al-
Makura escaped death by whiskers when his convoy was involved in a
fatal auto accident in which he lost three of his aides. On October 6,
2013, the convoy of the Emir of Bauchi, Alhaji Rilwan Adamu ran into
that of the Taraba State acting governor, Alhaji Garba Umar along the
Gombe/Bauchi Road. In December 2012, the convoy which initiated
Prof. Iyayi’s death was involved in a ghastly motor accident which
claimed the life of an aide-de-camp while the Governor himself was
hospitalized with an injured leg. This is the list of the deaths caused by a
convoy; these are the ones reported and yet they have left a lot of families
in grief. The essence of convoy is for protection of the so-called public
official, the governors all escaped death but some of their aides never got
too lucky with the precarious situation.
The siren-blaring and the over-speeding nature of the convoys need to be
under scrutiny. Of what good is this to the citizens of the country? The
main essence of convoy is to provide protection and ensure that top
government officials meet up with their official appointments. Of recent, the
convoys have been a constant source of noise pollution, deaths, injuries to
road users and a source of public harassment. It is interesting to know that
the convoy of a Nigerian governor is larger than that of the British
Prime Minister and no American State governor or Canadian provincial
premier attempts to disrupt the serenity enjoyed by the citizens. Nigerians
are expected to earn such a level of dignity and nobility from their leaders.
Since his inception as the governor of Lagos State, Babatunde Fashola
has decided to be a leader with a difference as he is the only governor who
refuses to oppress those who elected him with siren-blaring and speed
racing convoy. He condemns the trend as an abuse of power and
harassment of the citizens; he also gave clear orders to his commissioners to
desist from such an act. This is a quintessence of civilized governance. It
is high time other governors in Nigeria emulate the behavior of Babatunde
Fashola and display a modicum of respect to those who elected them into
office.
No need listing the number of families that have been tossed into the loch
of mourning and grief as a result of the barbaric attitude of the drivers in
the convoy of public officers. The list got extended with the recent accident
in Anambra involving a convoy of bank bullion van and other commercial
vehicles which claimed the lives of four people. The onus lies on the
Inspector General of Police, Muhammed Abubakar, to enforce the order
curbing the use of siren to a limited number of public officials. Federal
Road Safety Corps need the audacity to challenge convoy drivers that
break all traffic rules and speed limits with exemption. The governors
might have immunity; the drivers do not have immunity against trials. We
have to realize that no one is above the law, all fingers are equal, and the
law is made for both the rich and the poor. The problem most times in
Nigeria is the liberation with which people get involved in criminal acts
because the Law enforcement agencies lack the mettle to check the law
breakers.
The words of Edmund Burke comes to mind; “evil persists when good men
do nothing”. Good men in the country must arise and find pertinent
solutions to the brutal use of convoys by public officers which connotes
abuse of power. The death of Prof. Festus Iyayi should be the starting
point for the prosecution of law defaulters, the law breakers must be brought
to book so as to serve as a deterrent to others.

I Am Not Interested In Buhari’s Gov’t, PDP Will Soon Sack Him – Galadima
Galadinma says his daughter ought to be appointed a minister.

– Galadinma said he turned down requests to be minister thrice from Obasanjo and Yaradua.

A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Buba Galadima, has said he is not interested in an appointment in President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration, saying he had been offered appointment by former presidents Olusegun Obasanjo, Umaru Musa Yaradua and turned them down.

In an exclusive interview with Vanguard, Galadinma who is a staunch critic of Buhari’s government expressed hope that PDP will sack Buhari in court.

On the recently concluded election, Galadima said he is not shocked by the outcome of the poll, adding that he had predicted it.
