Spouse abuse: Physician guidelines to identification, diagnosis, and management in the uniformed services
Although all women are at risk of being abused, pregnancy places a woman at increased risk of injury and adverse health consequences. Estimates suggest that between 40 and 60% of abused women were abused during pregnancy.20 Because of the risk to the mother and fetus, assessment for abuse should be routinely incorporated into prenatal and postpartum care. Common presentations are provided in Table VI.
Mental Health/Psychiatric Symptoms
The assessment of potential spouse abuse should be routinely included in psychiatric intakes and evaluations. The stress of abuse may aggravate co-morbid psychiatric disorders. Psychiatric/mental health symptoms frequently associated with spouse abuse victimization are provided in Table VII. As has been discussed previously, physicians should be aware of the role that stress disorders, both acute stress disorder and posttraumatic stress disorder, play in the development or exacerbation of physical symptoms.
Behavioral Signs
Women who are involved in abusive relationships often exhibit a variety of responses during the medical examination. They often appear frightened, evasive, passive, or jumpy. The abused woman commonly accept responsibility for the violence because the abuser has convinced her that she is to blame. She may also take responsibility for the abuse to maintain a sense of control over her situation.8 Other commonly observed behaviors are listed in Table VIII. Read more here HEREPlease don't misunderstand me. . . I am not justifying abuse with this, I'm only attempting to show that the Psychological effects is universal, regardless of RACE, RELIGION, TRIBE, SIZE, HAIR COLOR OR LENGTH OF FINGER NAILS. |

HeatFusion: 1. LOLOL!!! Love, such nonsense. Do you think some of these women are in a polygamous family? Trying to console themselves that they did something wrong and that their husband still loves them?
2. It indeed is a sad thing when in Nigeria, even the parent of the woman finds it okay for their son-in-law to "teach" his wife for misbehaving. Just so he wouldn't send her packing, disgracing their family name. Very sad indeed and often times these women aren't from Polygamous homes. |

There are abused White and Black women here in the US and UK who will tell you their abuse is their own doing. I made him angry, I spoke too loud, I put too much salt, I didn't get out of his way quickly enough. . . excuses after excuses for why their husbands gave them a black eye or broke their ribs and the last I checked, these women where not affiliated to a certain religion or group.
PHYSICAL ABUSE OF WOMEN IS NOT PECULIAR TO A CERTAIN TRIBE OR RELIGION and any attempt to make it so is just taking away from the real issue hand. |

HeatFusion: I'm sorry, but when it comes to domestic violence, esp when it concerns women and unborn babies, jokes and sarcasm have no vacancy.
What else could make a married woman think it excusable for her husband to bash her and her unborn child? If not for chaotic hormones, then what? Some women have been programmed to think that whenever their husband beat them, it's their (women)'s fault. Sadly physical abuse not only leaves visible scars on the body, it also wrecks the psyche. You'd be surprised to know how many abused women (no matter how educated) sincerely believe they deserve to be beaten. It's their way of dealing with the fact that someone who claims to LOVE them takes pleasure in hurting them. This is why removing a woman from the abusive environment is just the beginning, intense Psychological treatment has to follow. . . unfortunately it is not available in Nigeria. |

Mai Suya: No, the North was responsible for that as well. A bunch of uneducated, gworo-chewing almajiris ordered the South, their professors and all, to shackle themselves and hand over the key.
Truly remarkable.
Just imagine what would happen if they were as 'educated' as the South. Hehehehehehehehehe. . . . I KNOW!!! World Domination here we come!!!!! Heavens Please us!!! I'm Outty |
Politics › Re: Hausa As Petroleum Minister! by SisiJinx: 9:36pm On Jan 27, 2009 |
Mai Suya: That's very interesting. I suggest you that a walk through any of the major cites in the North, kano, kaduna( ie if you are BOLD enough), you'll be in for pleasant surprise Na wa o! the terms you people use: hostage','bondage'. by who? By themselves Mai Gida na. . . by themselves. They can't even deny that. |
Politics › Re: Hausa As Petroleum Minister! by SisiJinx: 9:34pm On Jan 27, 2009 |
davidylan: @ Tonim . . . you used the right words - bondage and hostage. That is the situation of the south today, sadly. And they helped tremendously with putting the Shackles on their own legs, right? Just sayin'. |
Politics › Re: Hausa As Petroleum Minister! by SisiJinx: 9:31pm On Jan 27, 2009 |
davidylan: That's the first time i'm agreeing with you in a long time. Rotflmao!! Tonim: @bold Thank you very much. Unlike earthmama, You got my point.
Are you familiar with the phrase sunk cost ? It is a financial term used for projects that so much money, time and effort has been expended on such that, one has a hard time admitting its failure (more money keeps pumped into the project in perpetuity or until it eventually implodes)
This unfortunately is our plight today in southern Nigeria. So much has been sacrificed to make Nigeria work that we are having a hard time accepting the fact that our bongage with the North just cannot work.
If the leaders of all southern tribes come to a consensus and tell the North that they want to go their separate way, What are they going to do ? What exactly are they going to do ?
As long as Southern Nigeria remains disunited, we are always going to be held hostage by the North. I can't emphasize this enough. Brilliantly Stated. Look, I would be lying if I said the North does not have its issue. . . they do. What I absolutely detest is the BLAME THE NORTHERNERS FOR EVERYTHING card some people here play. |
Politics › Re: Hausa As Petroleum Minister! by SisiJinx: 9:07pm On Jan 27, 2009 |
Tonim: to davidylan and earthmama:
The north will continue with their ways as long as the south remains disunited. I have said this many times; we people from southern Nigeria are not united and the north is exploiting this big time. Thank you ooooh!! Instead of blaming the North for everything, southerners ought to check ourselves. The truth is I can go anywhere in the world and if there is a Hausa person in the 100 mile radius. . . I have ABSOLUTE CONFIDENCE that I will be fine. Can the same be said for southerners??!! We are selling each other up the creek and blaming others for buying. Okay my post comes off a bit schizo. . . I know that. |
Politics › Re: Hausa As Petroleum Minister! by SisiJinx: 8:46pm On Jan 27, 2009 |
davidylan: Take the south out of the equation and the north really has nothing. the last banking restructuring basically exposed the truth . . . virtually every single financial house ended up in the south. The south must share part of the blame too . . . Awolowo it was who failed to back the Igbo in 1966, we wont be here today being led by the noose. Thank you. . . Now we are talking. earTHMama: Usurping power is NEVER an evidence of brilliance rather it's a concrete evidence that Northerners are treacherous people. You should cover yourself with raiment in a civilized society because your acumen is certainly diseased. Tell me any nation in this world that succeeded with treacherous people like Northerners?. You celebrate Obama and turn the other cheek when it comes to Nigeria getting a visionary leader with no strings attached. You make me sick. Brilliant enough to HOLD POWER!!! Hehehehehehehe. I'm done talking to you jare, you are not as fun as David. |

davidylan: Sometime soon you will need a visa to visit southern Nigeria . . . i'm hoping it happens in my lifetime. I'm sick of these airheaded hausa/fulani cattle rearers reaping where they have not sown.
with all the top business gurus we have in the south, we have to depend on an ailing buffon called Yar Adua? What a shame to be a nigerian. Yipeeee! I've always wanted dual citizenhip! Rotflmao!!!! Top Gurus in the south YET an "ailing buffoon" is president? Hmm, maybe they ain't so top after all earTHMama: Northerners are not alien to that sort of lies. Salisu Buhari pulled a fast one on us about a decade ago and nearly got away with it, why won't others follow. May God give us the strength to hang in there because they surely belong together with their brothers in Chad and Niger.
In your dreams. You should be mourning the enormous poverty in your homeland and not sitting your farting behind on a chair and talk gibberish yet you are no tribalist. Oy veh!! |

It's pointless aruging with you guys. The moment you see Northerner, you see red. Do you know anything abut him? Do you know how educated or rather how uneducated he is? Do you what his qualification are? On what basis do you disqualify him?. You shout Nepotism all over the place. . . pray tell what you'd call Iyabo Obasanjo's appointment as whatever the heck she is?? Hmmmmm?? earTHMama: Hold your sympathy sister but I cannot stay in a pool and allow soap to enter my eyes. If we allow a bunch of half educated morons to run our govt and economy, they'll soon lead us to a cul de sac. So you can drive your northern love up your ass, it's not my business what you do with your ass. I can live without your petty hypocritical sorry and deal with your obesity first before caring about me. ~Sauron~: Don't be mad at me. . . . . . . . .I am just comparing everywhere i have been to Ikeja and trust me. . . . .Nothing compares. Of course, there are ghettos everywhere. NY, LA, Lagos, London, Amsterdam, Berlin. U would find undesirable elements everywhere. The clever-dumb balance or the the rich-poor balance must be maintained. However, if we put the negatives n positives on a scale. . . . . .I think the positives outweigh the negatives in Lagos state. Kaduna is too tacky for me liking. Kaduna Tacky?? Alright have you really, really been to Lagos?? There is NO WAY anyone who has been to Lagos would consider Kaduna Tacky. I mean Lagos the Master of pretentiousness, the Alpha and Omega of Ostentatious, The land of name droppers, the dwelling place for uncouthness. . . Lagos the crowned prince of Tackiness!! Hail Lagos!!!! stillwater: Lol. When in Rome, act like a Roman. I can't live any where else in Nigeria than Lagos.
