I do agree with most of what you wrote, I said it before as well, to say the US couldn't defeat the Taliban is silly.
But i also wouldn't call the loss of over 2,400 US military personnel in Afghanistan minimal casualty, that's a lot of dead soldiers

jpphilips:
You are the only person that came close to understanding what the US went to do in Afghanistan, the rest were busy saying what they think, not uncommon here though.

US went to Afghanistan to degrade the Taliban, ensure their Alqaeda allies no longer have the capability to pull a hit on US soil after 9/11.
You can go back and listen to George bush address to the nation in 2001.

The last time I checked, that Objective was met with minimal casualties, one of the least in modern history, reason some keyboard warriors are struggling to pull out a better stats.

Haven met the primary Objective, there was global pressure to stabilize & rebuild Afghanistan, that gave birth to a secondary Objective which the likes of former US defense secretary Jim Mattis believe will not be achieved with the barrel.

It is irritating to read from comedians here that the US primary Objective wasn't met with overwhelming firepower.
Even the Taliban themselves have forgotten their terror projection agenda, they are now interested in local politics to control provinces & earn seats in Parliament, that's how useless they have become, thanks to the US "flawed strategy" according to some women here.

There is no Alqaeda group linked to the Taliban that has ever pulled a hit on US soil in the last 15yrs, another fact!! that's proof US met her primary Objective in Afghanistan.

Hopefully when you are old enough, you will understand what a contagious viral infection is.
To compare that to heart attack or cancer is beyond absurd. But hey, hang in there.
Though for me, I would love to be able to go to a laundry mart and wash my clothes without running the risk of catching a virus that could kill me, you know, unlike cancer or heart attack that aren't contagious .
Took those pics just yesterday, a new covid-19 test site just opened up less than 3 streets from my home, or the fact that we have to line up outside to go into the supermarket without overcrowding. The site got closed today due to strong wind,
This isn't a joke dude, cut it out already.

Tinfoil:
According to cdc data heart attack and cancer have killed more people in the us than covid so all those hyped up news reports are garbage. Gives politicians tv time

lol, since when? slowpoke.
When people are daft and gullible, they see everything as perfect and okay, even while their own mothers are being raped by those in power.
There are ways to act, and there are ways to overdo it. His action was way out of proportion, if you have any common sense, you'd see that.
Besides, i wasn't talking about you, but you chose to be disrespectful for no reason, i made one fvking comment, and was done , but you chose to run your mouth.

I do value your contribution here, and i mean that, but learn to be respectful, especially when insult wasn't directed at you. You don't know me.

Foreign AffairsRe: African Militaries/ Security Services Strictly Photos Only And Videos Thread by Sizzorkay: 7:35pm On Apr 09, 2020
lol, no wonder Nigeria is a mess, if you have any common sense you'd know you don't shut down a company and ask them to leave a state over such a violation.
Court exists for a reason.
Na you own Nairaland? i shared my opinion, deal with it.
The other day we saw a video of a Governor tossing a commissioner or whatever into a pickup truck, i believe he even slapped him, and he got hauled away. Not the way things should be, it's an abuse of power
Have a good day bro

kabe1:
Bros, there is nothing silly in the governor's action.

There is a lockdown in the state, the helicopter company violated the lockdown.

You can fly in your passengers into the state, but they must remain in the federal facility.

Once you enter the state's land, you would get arrested.

It's basic common sense, nothing to rant about in this thread over.
Foreign AffairsRe: African Militaries/ Security Services Strictly Photos Only And Videos Thread by Sizzorkay: 6:45pm On Apr 09, 2020
River State Governor kicked out an helicopter company out of the state because they violated the Governor's covid-19 order? Why such drastic response, these silly governors are truly on a power trip, anyone with common sense would just fine them, why shut them down, jesus, stupid people running that country for real. No governor should ever have such power, unless approved by a Judge, and no judge would even allow that, or should.
Lol, na wetin catch my eye for the video, just gross

Salatavor:
Insulting me or anybody here Sir, is not an achievement, I have been insulted by even a mad person before so there is nothing unique about you insulting me. The only unique thing you can do for us here today is to stop wasting our time and tell us in very specific detail and with timeline on how the Nigerian armed forces that you are insulting us about, intend to:
1. Stop insurgency in the NE.
2. Rebuild the NE from years worth of battle damages.
3. Guaranty the safety and future of Nigerians living in the North East.
4. Equip and train members of the Nigerian armed forces to reflect the threat dynamics of the modern battle fields.
5. Reduce the participation of the Nigerian defense forces in local security and law enforcement operations to 5% or less.

If you cannot do any of these allow well meaning Nigerians to continue to communicate their fears.

I want what some of what you guys been smoking lol, for real.
Ranting here won't change what goes on Abuja, i beg spare us the lecture. Unless you were born yesterday, na today soldier dey abuse civilians?
You want to make a change? Shut down the country, Labor Union goes on strike, Students walk off campus, Police join in on the protest, and the list goes on and on, that's the only way these A-holes will listen to ya, not ranting on nairaland, that won't do sheet, learn how making a change on a national level works, won't happen thru this platform, it needs visibility, not some anonymous warrior talking trash online.
Wanna change Nigeria? You need a huuuuge following/platform, you need to galvanize the people, question is, how far would you go before you get your ass locked up lol.
Good luck with that.
Enough Already, Nigeria BAD, we know.

Poverty is an excuse, it's not a cure.
Go to Europe, are those being recruited to become terrorists living in poverty?
The rich Nigerian kid who almost blew up an aircraft in the US, was he also living in poverty?
PhD Holders, US soldier, Engineering student, the list goes on and on.
Please.
Bunch of people here in the US have been arrested for trying to carry out attacks on behalf of terrorists, and they aren't living in poverty either.

Foreign AffairsRe: Battle Field Discussion (picture/video) Of African Military . by Sizzorkay: 8:46pm On Apr 07, 2020
I don't think it's about losing the initiative, they never had one to begin with, the conflict in the north is just a side thing to them, they don't take it as something major yet. In other words, lack of seriousness
BlackBaron:
Guy, I don't get this sniper thing especially with highly mobile enemies. High calibre anti materiel rifle on a highly fluid battlefield will do what exactly?
Its possible our troops are battle weary and unrotated. Heck, I would now like to see the children of the most powerful Nigerians getting rotated into the theatre, maybe then we'll see some traction.
As for those at the top, I think they've lost the initiative.
Foreign AffairsRe: Battle Field Discussion (picture/video) Of African Military . by Sizzorkay: 8:40pm On Apr 07, 2020
How many areas are the Chadians defending? You guys keep bringing up Chad over and over again. If BH /ISWAP is spread over a certain region of chad as they are in Nigeria, chad at this point would have France providing massive support for them, because they do not have the resources to even sustain such fight for 6 months, let alone years.
So what Chad ( in my little opinion) has done is take the fight to the enemy in border areas of Nigeria, that's different from trying to defend so many positions, towns, cities and villages. If all Nigerian soldiers have to do on occasion is mass up and run up on BH without having to worry about anything else, then that would have been easier done as well.
We are comparing two different things here. Chad isn't a stronghold for BH or ISWAP, sadly Nigeria allowed them to have that stronghold on our soil.
Now switch Chad for Nigeria, and Chad would be in huge trouble, like i said, they won't even have what it takes to sustain the onslaught for 6 months, they don't have the resources for that.
And where did you get this report? from the video or statement the man published? any link?
I still think our soldiers seem to lack awareness, they tend to stroll about as if there are no enemies around.
See the other day when troops were massacred, and a soldier said they were sleeping or some sh!t, and go caught unaware, now imagine that, you are in a war zone, no look nothing, and you are surprised you got caught unaware.
Oh well, me, I'm not supporting the Govt, i only feel for these poor soldiers being led to slaughter by clueless leaders.
We have a country where people are busy saluting and not trying to offend, so instead of having a frank discussion, they simple take whatever little they are given and go to war half-cocked .
komekn:
Chei !!!! I am very confused. WAHALA deh cry cry cry

Maybe you can explain.

I was listening to General Adeniyi report, he said there were three Battalions at that point.

That they had been out flanked by 8-10 gun trucks, that over 100 RPG's and Dame number of mortars had been shot at them.

Three Battalions should equate to at least 1500 soldiers, There were three General at the front of the battle with three MRAP'S leading the assault or hiding in defence.

How can 10 gun trucks hold 1500 men into a static position. The effective range of an RPG is about 300 metres at best. Anything over that and it's wildly inaccurate ( off target)

All the three MRAP's will have HMG didn't see. optics so it will be steel sights. So trying to hit a small target first shot at 400 metres will not be easy. But hitting a gun truck in at 500/600 metres even with steel sights, considering the higher elevation of the MRAP's should be plausible particularly if they keep breaking cover all around you.

Then foot soldiers dug into the ground should be able to engage. Yes those AK's don't have optics but they should still be able to hit the guys shooting the RPG's anytime they break cover to shoot. In addition we should have out own RPG'S to respond with.

I would expect that within these three Battalions there should be at least 10 snipers not neccesarily with high calibre rounds.

So how did they get so overwhelmed.

It's not making sense to me. Something is very wrong and it's not just the lack of equipment. It's very puzzling.

Compared to us Chad have literally a rag-tag army. They are using BMP1, they have no body armour. Don't have any MRAP's lots of gun trucks but nothing specail.

What's going on❓❓❓❓
Foreign AffairsRe: Battle Field Discussion (picture/video) Of African Military . by Sizzorkay: 8:08pm On Apr 07, 2020
That's what i was saying yesterday or at least close to it.
If this hit close to home, like totally destroying our economy and major infrastructure and hitting those in power very closely, we would have seen a very different Nigerian Military, which is why i said we aren't serious about this, not because we don't have better capability than what is being shown

SamuelAnyawu:
If ISWAP had been hitting on our elites surely they would have been decimated.

For now the Elites are cashing out at the expense of our fine gallant soldiers in the trench
Foreign AffairsRe: Battle Field Discussion (picture/video) Of African Military . by Sizzorkay: 8:00pm On Apr 07, 2020
And it's not that i don't wanna hear chad's exploits or stuff like that, I'm just never a fan of same things being repeated over and over.
Similar to pics of the Ezugwu or whatever it's called, now each time it's pics is posted, i don't bother looking, I mean, what else is new, we've all seen it, why over do things.
So my attitude over this is generalized, not just about chad. We need new contents.
