Yar’Adua : I owe public no explanation – Oyedepo Cover Stories Apr 7, 2010 By Sam Eyoboka & Kolade Larewaju ABEOKUTA – PRESIDENT of the Living Faith Church, Bishop David Oyedepo yesterday confirmed that he actually visited ailing President Umaru Yar’Adua at the Presidential Villa but declined to give details of the man’s state of health. Bishop Oyedepo who spoke to reporters in Abeokuta, declined further comments on their visit to the ailing president merely saying “yes” when asked to confirm the reports in the newspapers. Pressed to speak on the president’s health, he said “that is personal. I owe the public no explanation.” Bishop Oyedepo Oyedepo was one of the four Christian leaders who were led by the president of Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, and Catholic Archbishop of Abuja, Most Rev. John Onaiyekan, who visited President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua on Easter Monday to pray with him. Others included Rev. Emmanuel Kure and the erstwhile chaplain of Aso Rock Chapel, Prof. Yusuf Obaje. Meanwhile, as over 140 million Nigerians await the verdict of the four Christian leaders on the state of health of President Yar’Adua, feelers reaching Vanguard showed that the team was hurriedly assembled to balance a political equation as Muslim clerics had earlier prayed with him. According to informed sources, an earlier move to get credible Christian clerics to be part of the Easter Monday visit flopped when some of them were perceived not to be too keen on the visit. The whole idea of the Easter prayers by Christian leaders was said to have emanated from a former two-term governor who believed he could contract eminent Christian leaders to pray for the ailing president, especially after a similar exercise by Muslim clerics. The immediate family of the ailing president was said to have bought the idea and therefore asked one of the key officials to liaise with the former governor. It was at that point that the former governor was said to have called the National President of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria, PFN, Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor who was expected to reach others. The proposal was for Oritsejafor to recruit the services of the CAN president, John Onaiyekan, the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, RCCG, Pastor Enoch Adeboye and one other cle[font=Lucida Sans Unicode][font=Lucida Sans Unicode][b]ric. To stave off criticisms about the recent visits of four Muslim clerics, Turai, the wife of ailing Nigerian leader Umaru Yar'Adua, today invited four leading Christian leaders, namely John Onaiyekan, David Oyedepo, Reverend Emmanuel Kure and Reverend Yusuf Obaje, President Olusegun Obasanjo's former chaplain to meet with her husband. The meeting took place between 4:30 and 5:30 p.m. at the presidential villa, where Yar'Adua continues to receive treatment for a debilitating disease known as Churg Strauss Syndrome. Reverend Emmanuel Kure is from Throneroom Trust ministry in Kaduna, Onaiyakan is the Roman Catholic Archbishop of Abuja and one time President of the Christian Association of Nigeria, David Oyedepo is the flamboyant pastor and jet-set cleric of the prosperity-preaching Winners Chapel, while Obaje is formerly Obasanjo's chaplain. The religious leaders met with Yar'Adua for close to five minutes and reportedly said prayers with him. He was unable to speak or stand up but one of them told our reporters that at the end of the session, the ailing leader chanted a grunt that sounded like "Amen". Last week's visits by four Muslim cleric drew widespread outrage especially as one of the visitors to Yar'Adua, Dr. Ahmad Datti, gave incendiary comments in a newspaper warning Acting President Goodluck Jonathan not to take over power from Yar'Adua regardless of his medical condition. A source told Saharareporters today that the Bauchi State governor, Isa Yuguda, Yar'Adua's son-in-law who was instrumental in cobbling together the christian leaders for today's visit was very happy when it took place. He expressed the view that with the christian leader's visit, they might be able to bring Yar'Adua to retake power at the end of April, something medical sources dispute. It would be recalled that long before any of the recent visits to Yar'Adua by anyone, Saharareporters had consistently reported that Yar'Adua's condition had left him unable to speak or walk. |
It was an irony of fate for the late Miss Deborah Kaase, a 27-year-old mother of three who hailed from Koinyan in Konshisha Local Government Area of Benue State. Oblivious of the fact that a supposedly wise counsel by a senior police officer would turn out to be a highway to her untimely grave, Deborah packed out of her matrimonial home and bided her hubby goodbye following recurring domestic squabbles. In doing so, she had hoped to move on to a new phase of her life, where she would enjoy peace and have joy. Having succeeded in separating her from the husband, an Assistant Superintendent of Police [ASP], (name witheld), allegedly made love advances to her. She agreed but said marriage was not on the cards since the ASP is happily married and has kids. Thus, a sizzling romance started between the duo, but it did not take long before tragedy struck. And the horrendous details of the incident sounded like a fictional narrative. Precisely at 9.pm on March 17, 2010, Deborah was dispatched to the world beyond and her lifeless body dumped at the morgue of the Wuse General Hospital in Abuja. She had become another victim of cruel fate, shot dead in cold blood by the ASP the man she had invested hope, love and trust, when her marriage became a voyage of misadventure. Sadly, he shot her right in front of the police station where he held sway, after accusing her of having an affair with another man. Eyewitnesses said when the reality of his action eventually dawned on him as Deborah laid in a pool of her blood, the police officer mobilized some of his subordinates and made a last ditch effort to save her life. She was first rushed to Royal Lot Clinic, a private medical facility located at Dutse Makaranta, where she was rejected on grounds that she had bullet wounds. Again, efforts to get her admitted in another hospital at Kubwa also drew blank as the authorities were said to have rejected her for similar reasons. When both attempts yielded no positive result, the ASP, according to sources, decided to move her to the closest government hospital at the city centre. Unfortunately, she reportedly died on the way before help could reach her. Consequently, her body was taken to the Wuse General Hospital and deposited in the morgue. However, what transpired between the police and mortuary attendants at the hospital before the body was accepted has become a subject of controversy. Deborah’s family and kinsmen alleged that the ASP and his subordinates who took her body to the hospital merely dumped her there after labeling her as a member of a robbery gang who was shot dead when the police raided their hide-out while her accomplices escaped. Dismissing the claim as a blatant lie, her kith and kin resident in Abuja , threatened fire and brimstone. They vowed to ensure that justice prevailed. Daily Sun gathered that but for the timely intervention of Chief Stephen Utim, traditional head of the Tiv community in Dutse Makaranta, and the prompt deployment of anti-riot policemen to the area, angry Tiv youths had already mobilized to set ablaze the police station where the incident occurred. Utim gave an insight on how the ASP lured Deborah out of her matrimonial home and engaged her in a love affair that eventually consumed her life: “Deborah was living with her husband, a Yoruba man. Whenever they had quarrel, ASP Ibrahim, as O/C of the police station would say he wanted to settle them. That was how he got close to her. “After making the lady to separate from her husband, he promised helping her, and started going out with her. He gave her a mattress to use in her new rented apartment, but later collected it when they had a misunderstanding. “On the day of the incident, he called her and said somebody was going out with her, and that he would deal with her. He had sighted her sitting with some people where they were drinking. He then sent his subordinates to invite her to the police station. She went there and after some altercation, left for her home. “Not satisfied, he sent for her again and called her asewo [prostitute]. The lady replied that if she is a prostitute, then he is also a prostitute since he is married and having fun outside. Enraged, he threatened to shoot her and she asked him to go ahead if he could. And just in a flash, the ASP pulled the trigger, shooting her twice at the ribs.” Utim, who described the ASP as his personal friend, said he was surprised that the embattled police officer could turn round to label the deceased as belonging to a gang of armed robbers after her death. He said indeed, documentary evidence indicated that he had referred to her as his wife. Utim alleged that neither he nor any member of the Tiv community in Dutse Makaranta was informed when the incident occurred. They were kept in the dark till about 5.pm of the next day: “Nobody informed us of what had happened until the evening of the next day when I got wind of it. In fact, the ASP sent for me. By then, he had been detained at the Divisional Police Headquarters at Dutse Alhaji. When I got there on Friday, March 19, 2010, he was crying. He told me it was the handiwork of the devil. I pitied him, because here is a man who has put in 33 years in service. He has only two years to go on retirement. Look at the mess he has put himself.” If available documentary evidence is anything to go by, then, there are strong indications that the tag of being a suspected armed robber allegedly placed on Deborah as a ploy to cover up the dastardly act may boomerang soon. A letter hand-written and signed by the ASP dated February 19, 2010, and addressed to the Directorate of Road Traffic Services [VIO], portrayed the police officer’s intimacy with Deborah. The ASP wrote the letter to solicit for the release of the deceased’s motor-bike used for commercial purposes which was seized by officials of the VIO at Dutse, along the Kubwa Expressway. While pleading for cooperation of the VIO, the police officer referred to Deborah as his wife. He said he had wanted to personally visit the officials in their office, but was hindered by the fact that his superior officer was at his station. Spokesman of the Federal Capital Territory [FCT] Police Command, Mr. Jimoh Moshood, confirmed the incident in a telephone chat: “Yes, I can confirm that the incident happened and the officer involved is under our custody. In fact, he was in handcuffs yesterday [Monday]. “However, what happened was a case of accidental discharge, but that is not to mean that the officer is exonerated. We will investigate if there was any other motive and if he is found culpable, he will be charged to court on completion of our departmental procedures. “Right now, we are trying to locate the family of the deceased. At no time was the lady tagged a robbery suspect by the police. Nobody ever said so.” For Mr. Robert Kaase Alumo, father of the deceased, life has literally come to an end. Still in shock, Alumo had lost his voice when Daily Sun met him at the residence of Utim at Dutse Makaranta, three days after his arrival from his Katsina-Ala base in Benue State. Until her death, Deborah reportedly worked as a manager of Ade Guest Inn, Dutse. Bemused and confused, all the he could say about her was that she was “humble and hardworking.” http://www.sunnewsonline.com/webpages/news/abujareports/2010/mar/29/abujareports-29-03-2010-001.htm THIS IS AN EXAMPLE OF FAILED MARRIAGES, BUILT ON FALSEHOOD, WHEN A WOMAN MARRIES A MAN SIMPLY BECAUSE SHE SEES OTHERS DOING IT WITHOUT NECESSARILY LOVING THE MAN, SHE MUST HAVE ALOT OF PROBLEMS. ADULTERY (WHICH IS A WOMAN'S OFFENCE) ATTRACTS BLOOD, MEN (AFRICAN MEN) DONT CHEAT, ITS ONLY THE WOMEN THAT CHEATS. AN AFRICAN MAN IS ENTITLED TO MARRY AS MANY WIVES AS HE CAN CARTER FOR. LET HER STOP HER MESSY ADULTERY, BECAUSE SHE WILL BE THE BIGGEST LOOSER AS HER CHEATING MATE WILL NEER MARRY HER! |

In a move that is unprecedented in modern history of the papacy, Pope Benedict (XVI) has resigned his position as the leader of the over one billion Catholics worldwide. In a letter he sent to the College of Cardinals, the Pope acknowledged that the recent wave of scandals involving Catholic priests has made it impossible for him to do the job he was elected to do. “I feel personally responsible for letting pedophilic priests who molested young boys to go free,” the Pope wrote. “Instead of being punished for the atrocities they committed, they got protection from Bishops and other church leaders like me.” In the last few weeks, Pope Benedict has been accused of doing nothing about the molestation of kids by priests while serving as the Archbishop of Munich and Freising in his home country, Germany. Memos to the then Cardinal from Fr. Gerhard Gruber have recently been published in the media to the embarrassment of the Vatican. Also as Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger, he received complaints from American Bishops and other church leaders round the world but was too busy enforcing church doctrines that he failed to take action. Last month, several news organizations revealed documents on how Rev. Lawrence C. Murphy molested over a 200 deaf boys from Wisconsin. The scandal was reported to the then Cardinal Ratzinger by the archbishop of Wisconsin asking the Vatican to defrock the priest. But Cardinal Ratzinger ignored the plea. What is more shocking in Pope Benedict’s resignation letter was his decision to spend the rest of his life fighting to reform the Catholic Church. “For the rest of my life,” the Pope wrote, “I will work to ensure that priests can marry, if they want; that women are allowed to be priest in the church; and to make sure that our great church softens its stance on social issues like gay marriage, condom use and abortion.” Just last month, at the heat of the child abuse controversies, the Pope sent a Pastoral Letter to the Catholic Church in Ireland addressing abuse of minors by Catholic priests in the country. That letter and other push backs by the Vatican did little to steam the rash of anger towards the church by Catholics around the globe. The news of the Pope’s resignation has spurred an immediate campaign by Italians cardinals to retake the position of the Pope. The campaign is going on despite Pope Benedict’s suggestion in his resignation letter that the College of Cardinals might be well served if it looks outside Europe for his replacement. Speaking to Zero News Network (ZNN), the Archbishop of Canterbury, the Most Reverend Rowan Williams said, “This is a sad day for the whole church of Christ.” He added that he hoped that the Catholic Church would survive this and come out stronger than ever. In his reaction, the General Overseers of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Rev. Enoch Adebayo said to ZNN, “Please, tell me this is April fool.” http://www.saharareporters.com/news/5677-pope-benedict-xvi-resigns.html |
