A DANGEROUS PALACE COUP ~Elder Thompson Ofeton Contact: messengeroftruth1@gmail.com There was a time in Nigeria when there were three dominant political parties namely, the Northern people’s congress (NPC), the National Council of Nigeria and the Cameroun (NCNC) and the Action Group (A.G) tied to the aprons of each of the three major ethnic groups of Hausa, Igbo and Yoruba respectively in Nigeria. These three major political parties later metamorphosed into the National Party of Nigeria (NPN), the Nigerian Peoples Party (NPP) and the Unity Party of Nigeria (UPN) respectively. Each of these parties defended its territories and candidates or membership tenaciously as each party tried to penetrate opponents’ territories and rank and file membership in their quest for growth. So it was that between 1960 and 1983, after any federal general elections, none of these three dominant political parties succeeded to win the required number of votes and seats to form the government alone by itself and so there was always a merger of the party with the highest number of votes and seats, which was always the Northern Peoples Congress (NPC) with any of the remaining two parties. And because the leadership of the Unity Party of Nigeria (UPN) decided then not to go into alliance with the Northern Peoples Congress (NPC), the Federal Government of Nigeria was always formed by the alliance of the Northern People’s Congress (NPC and later NPN) and the National Council of Nigeria and Cameroun (NCNC and later NPP). This kept the South-Western States (Sought-West Geo-political Zone) perpetually in opposition at Federal Level between 1960 and 1983. With the emergence of new political parties through one of which (the PDP), one of the sons of the South-West (ex President Olusegun Obasanjo) became an elected President in 1999, the South-Western States and their governors still did not join the PDP even before the emergence of their son as elected President and so they remained focused in the opposition at the Federal Level till this year 2015. But when the dominant political party (the PDP) became divided against itself and things began to fall apart, it became a happy observation to political observers that the South-West which hitherto isolated itself, could chart a pathway into the North, building bridges to give birth to a mega opposition party now known and called the All Progressives Congress (APC). Political observers saw this as a healthy situation that would make future Federal Elections much more competitive. Hence, as the campaigns for the just concluded presidential election started, the intensity and excitement that ensued, was not entirely unexpected. But be that as it may, the fallout of the 2015 Presidential election in Nigeria has brought to the fore, a most dangerous trend that no nation on earth has ever known or applied and this has put our nation, Nigeria, and her people on the edge of a calamitous precipice. THE POWER – SHIFT SYNDROME IN NIGERIA All over the world, where democracy is practised as a system of government, political parties are formed. And when elections are due to be held into the executive (i.e. the Presidency) and or into legislatures, each party fielding candidates in the elections proceeds to elect or adopt their candidates for the elective positions in the elections. Once their candidates emerge, each party moves to campaign and canvass for votes from the general public for each of their candidates in the elections. But this was not to be in the 2015 Presidential Election in Nigeria in which because of their crave for “power shift to the North”, a dangerous PALACE COUP was conceived, neatly hatched and seamlessly executed by all the Northern PDP Governors and their state and national leaders who made sure that all the Northern PDP states (which were in the majority in the North) voted for APC to actualize their clamour for “power retention in the North” which started in 2010 but metamorphosed to “power shift to the North” after the 2011 presidential election. See map of Nigeria at the front page of Punch Newspaper of Wednesday, April 1, 2015 which shows states won by PDP and APC at a glance in colours; in the Presidential Election of March 28, 2015. Therefore, it was the “power shift syndrome” that played out in the 2015 Presidential Election in which all the Northern PDP states voted against their own candidate the incumbent President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan and NOT the merits or the demerits of any political party or of the contending candidates. They proceeded to ensure the much needed working majority in the National Assembly to be free from any impeachment zone for the incoming government. I cannot remember any antecedent of where or when a political party voted against its own candidate in a general election of this magnitude in any nation on the earth except Nigeria where this has become a stock-in-trade. A peep into excerpts from warning prophecies and predictions of monumental crisis in the 2015 presidential elections and possible break-up of Nigeria. 1. Prophecy by prophet Ekong Ituen: Excerpts from an interview with DailySun correspondent TOSIN AKINOLA, after the presidential election. Excerpts: It is on record that the seer (Prophet) Ekong Ituen of the Christ Deliverance Ministries (CDM) predicted in 2014 and 2015 that President Jonathan would be defeated in 2015 Presidential election because he saw the flag falling from his hand which signified defeat. Vide Daily Sun of January 20, 2014 on page 54 and Daily Sun of January 15, 2015 page 47, with the captions, “2015: APC will win Presidential election” and “Election result will shock Nigerians” respectively. Spiritually speaking, I saw his defeat coming, that was why I warned him, but he took the prediction for granted”. He continued, “it is on record as was published in Daily Sun of January 4, 2013, page 43 that I warned President Jonathan severally to be careful with Northern Governors as they will betray him and will not be there for him when he will need them most. He was also misled by those who pretended to be loyal to him unquote”. Source: Daily Sun of Wednesday, April 15, 2015, page 47. 2. A research by National Mirror correspondent UBONG UKPONG: A critical look at the challenge of securing the nation in an election year and the survival of Nigeria, by the National Mirror Correspondent Ubong Ukpong has revealed and I quote, “The challenge was occasioned by series of predictions and projections of Nigeria’s imminent collapse in the 2015 electoral year in view of the likely violence that would erupt if the presidential election did not tilt to the direction of the opposing forces. About six years ago, these predictions and projections for violence in Nigeria and its subsequent collapse in 2015, came to the fore and became very popular when the electioneering activities commenced in earnest in 2014. It even brewed serious anxiety at the dawn of the year 2015. The desperation and strength exhibited by the Boko Haram terrorists group in causing havoc and capturing territories became even more worrisome since the insurgency and elections were two major factors believed to threaten the country’s continuous existence. Since the emergence of the administration of President Goodluck Jonathan, the country has been quite ungovernable and insecure and this was attributed to the insistence on Northern Presidency and alleged campaign threats and utterances by prominent Northern Presidential candidates, including the present President – Elect, General Muhammadu Buhari of the All Progressives Congress, APC, that they would make the country ungovernable unless a Northerner was President”. Source: National Mirror of Tuesday, April 14, 2015. 3. Prediction from the United States of America Angle: Excerpts: “A conference report titled ‘Mapping sub-Saharan Africa’s Future’ by a group of experts assembled by the United States National Intelligence Council predicted the possibility of ‘outright collapse of Nigeria’. The report said, “While currently Nigeria’s leaders are locked in a bad marriage that all dislike but dare not leave, there are possibilities that could disrupt the precarious equilibrium in Abuja. The most important would be a junior officers coup that could destabilize the country to the extent that open warfare breaks out in many places in a sustained manner. The United States went ahead to deny Nigeria the opportunities to buy arms for this purpose and blocked every move by Nigeria to buy from other countries, while the insurgents were getting arms freely, making it look like President Jonathan and the military were incapable of confronting the insurgents”. Source: National Mirror of Tuesday, April 14, 2015, page 13. It was not surprising therefore that submarines were stationed in Ghana’s territorial waters, ready to evacuate their nationals from Nigeria should crisis erupt from the result of the Presidential election of March 28, 2015. It is unfortunate that a lot of highly placed political analysts and intellectuals have been giving reasons for and against the outcome of the 2015 Presidential election. Instead of studying the dynamics of Nigerian politics and especially the “Northern factor” in Nigerian politics, most of them speak IGNORANCE. And ignorance does not mean the non-existence of KNOWLEDGE or TRUTH. IGNORANCE simply means that the ignorant person IGNORED learning the TRUTH or IGNORED ACQUIRING the KNOWLEDGE necessary for acceptable analysis. The danger inherent in this conspiracy theory that culminated in the palace coup that played out in the 2015 presidential election is that in the absence of rotational presidency among the six geo-political zones being entrenched in the constitution, this theory which the North has now either bought, discovered, acquired or learned, the North can now hold to the presidency for as many years as they so desire since party affiliation will be thrown to the wind, just to capture or retain the presidency in the North, and especially with the lop-sided creation of states in Nigeria – nineteen (19) States in the North and Seventeen (17) states in the South. Afterwards, men of Northern Nigeria origin in military uniform held to power in Nigeria for about thirty-five (35) years without remorse. This latest conspiracy theory therefore surely portends great danger to the corporate existence of this nation, Nigeria, if not checked and stopped. By this single act, Northerners have entrenched “ethnic and regional pattern of voting” in a greater and deeper dimension. The only antidote is the entrenchment of rotational presidency in the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. |

Otunba GANI ADAMS March 26 at 12:05pm · READ MY INTERVIEW PUBLISHED IN THISDAY NEWSPAPER TODAY Adams: Tinubu is a Big Time Political Trader 26 Mar 2015 Interview Once described as a student of “marketalism of struggle”, leader of the Oodua Peoples Congress, Chief Gani Adams, a few days ago re-echoed this notion, when he described a former governor of Lagos State and one of the leaders of the All Progressives Congress, Bola Tinubu as a big time political trader. In this no-holds-barred interview, Adams justified the very reason his group is parting ways with the so-called progressives in this year’s general election. Ojo M. Maduekwe PRESENTSthe excerpts: What are your fears as the nation approaches this crucial election? Most of my earlier fears have been defeated. You will realise that by December, there was crossfire of statements from most of the candidates of the different political parties. But then, I realised that after the elections were postponed, the tension was reduced same as the abuses that were coming from the different political parties. That said, the fears that I initially harboured regarding the election is no more there. The issue of PVC ended on Sunday March 22, but we still have more than 20 per cent in different zones in Nigeria yet to get their PVCs. On the day of the election, those who do not have their PVC, what will be their fate? And then there is the mass underage registration in the North. The issue of 30,000 polling units is also there. That said I still remain optimistic that the way things are going, the election will be free and fair. If Jega has any evil plans, with the signal that we sent to him, he will realise that the whole world is watching him. Do you think the postponement was right? Definitely! You will realise that if the election was not postponed, by now Nigeria will be in chaos, if not in anarchy such that would have been worse than what happened during the 1993 June 12 election. The level of interest in politics presently is more than what happened in 1993. With the level of interest, if 24 million people out of about 68 million were been denied their PVCs on February 14, you know what could have happened; we would have witnessed serious problem in this country. Twenty-four million is 34 per cent as at the time. Secondly, we had the high level of security challenges in the North-east and North-west. Some are saying that we lost a lot of money to the postponement, well, when you want liberation you should be prepared to sacrifice. It is better we lose some money than to lose our country. It is better we lose some money than to lose thousands of lives in the process. So, again I say that the postponement of the elections saved Nigeria from chaos and anarchy. A lot of people have subjected your support for the president to different interpretations. Some say it is monetary, that it is because you secured a huge contract from the federal government is the reason you are supporting him. Is that correct? Majority of the accusations are coming from the APC. We should ask them: do they normally give me money when I was supporting them? Definitely, I was compromising when we were supporting them, especially Tinubu. People, including PDP once tagged me an ally of Tinubu. Notwithstanding, our group support is based on ideology. The reason we supported Tinubu before was because we thought he believed in true federalism, in the restructuring of Nigeria. But we x-rayed Tinubu and realised that he is a businessman in politics. He is a trader in Nigerian politics. He is a person that can compromise the interest of his entire race single-handedly, based on his own interest within 10 minutes. He believes he has so much influence on the media, and also believes he has some lawyers he can pay to defend and even twist issues that could affect the country. So, when we noticed all these, for the past five years we’ve not been happy with him. The worst part of it is the issue of the national conference that was convoked by President Jonathan last year. When the president announced the national conference on October 1 2013, Tinubu was coming from London, and without even consulting with any stakeholder in Yorubaland, on landing at the airport, he condemned the proposal from the president. He said it was a Greek gift and a diversionary tactics. Many self-determination organisations in the South were very furious with the statement. We asked ourselves: is Tinubu a king, Ooni of Ife, or Alaafin of Oyo, or is he being given Aare-ona Kankaafo? Even the king, like Ooni of Ife will consult his chiefs. There has always been a consultation before taking a final decision. But Tinubu as a two-time governor, who has never been detained for the Yoruba cause – when the NADECO struggle was on, he ran out of the country and was enjoying himself abroad. We were the ones protesting against Abacha. And then you came and had the opportunity to be a governor, without being detained for a day. We got the information from a reliable source that one of the reasons Tinubu stabilised himself as a NADECO chieftain was because he short-changed $13 million from Abacha in an oil deal. He realised that instead of him to give the money to Abacha, he was ready to spend like 3 or 4 million from it to the struggle. That was what happened. So he now criticising the national conference is funny because in NADECO, one of the major issues they were asking, was the government to organise a sovereign national conference; that the government should restructure the country. Even when Abiola had not been given his mandate before he was detained, he said it at the Epetedo Declaration that if I happen to be the president of this country, the first thing I will do is to organise a sovereign national conference. Alao Aka-Bashorun STARTED this struggle in 1992. The process within this agitation was what gave Tinubu the opportunity to be a governor. When he became a governor, he continued to agitate for true federalism for a period of one year and two months. After he stabilised as governor, he played it down. You remember in Tinubu’s first term, he was calling for state police. In his second term, he had stopped calling for state police. We realised that he had already compromised on the ideology of a progressive Nigeria. He does not believe in what brought him to power, and has led him to the position where he is. Even though he does not believe in the national conference, he should have kept quiet and not try to destroy what a majority of Nigerians believe can move the country forward. This is what makes some of us furious, that Tinubu can sell any good ideology because of political power. Even when President Jonathan organised the conference, Tinubu kept on using the media to try to puncture it. But when that did not work, after we finished the conference and came out with a recommendation, we saw many media houses writing different things, until we came out and enlightened Nigerians about the content of the conference, which the majority have accepted will move Nigeria forward. In it, we agreed that states will control their minerals, there will be state police and each state will have their own constitution. There will also be state creation to solve some issues in Nigeria. For instance, we have minority tribes in the North. The creation of Gwara State in Kaduna will stop the crisis between Christians and Muslims in Kaduna. When we sat down to consider the national conference – what our fellow Yoruba man, who used the slot of Chief MKO Abiola to become a president in 1999, and failed to acknowledge Abiola’s name to any monument; what he failed to do for a period of eight years, President Jonathan had the opportunity and did it within three years. And President Jonathan did not interfere with our deliberations. I remember vividly when we had the problem of how to reach a decision at the conference, some Niger Delta people went to the president and he told them that he was not GETTING involved. They went a second time and he again declined. Now we finished the conference and Tinubu did not even agree on most of the things that we agreed. You do not play politics on the basis of bitterness. In American politics, when a democrat brings a good policy, you will see a legislator from the Republican embracing and approving it, provided the policy is for the interest of America. But in NIGERIA, any good policy that comes to the National Assembly, because it is not coming from the APC, they will hang it on one side. Most of the bills that the president sent to the House of Representatives are still pending. The Yorubas are very enlightened and what happens in other zones cannot happen HERE. That was the mistake that Tinubu made by unilaterally, without consulting Yoruba people bringing Buhari and saying he is our candidate. Based on all these issues, and because President Jonathan convoked the national conference, was why we decided to support him. All what we have been fighting for, we have gotten at least 60 to 70 per cent. We decided to give him another opportunity to do more and move the country forward. Tinubu’s candidate, Buhari, kicked against the national conference, calling it a waste of public fund. Then some people will tell me to support such a person. I cannot support someone who said he wants change but does not want change in the structure that is giving us problem in this country. He wants change but does not want change in the constitution that was written by one man, and handed over to Abdulsalam, who in turn gave it to Obasanjo. And they wrote we the people of Nigeria. Is one man we the people? We have worked on the constitution and it can be pushed for amendment so that it can be the input of the entire people of Nigeria. For us to move the country forward, you need an input of the people in the constitution. Your rally for President Jonathan raised a lot of concerns. People saw it as part of what to expect in the coming elections. Secondly, apart from the national conference, on what other grounds is your group supporting the president? The protest was not done to support the president. The reason was to protest against the activities of Jega. We have been justified regarding the issue of shortage of PVCs. Collection has ended and yet more than 20 per cent are yet to GET their PVCs. Jega was giving unnecessary excuses of multiple registration. That is a lie. The second issue was that of underage registration which he did not clarify. How can we be using a different constitution in the North and another one in the South? The Nigerian constitution stipulates that a person to vote in the country must not be less than 18 years. But there are pictures of children from 10 to 15 years voting in the North in 2011. Jega did not clear this, along with the 30,000 polling units that were newly created in the North against the South. You cannot prepare rigging before the election. Jega should be very careful as the whole world wants to see the result of this election. This was why we organised the rally. The APC is only trying to twist the issue. The APC tried to blackmail us and put holes in the protest. They used different strategy and brought one Shina Akinpelu from Ibadan to sign a press release, which was then syndicated by Steve Ayorinde, who is a media aide to Ambode. The media told us that the press release that was purportedly coming from the OPC was from Steve Ayorinde. After then, Shina Akinpelu was nowhere to be found. They went to bring one land grabber, who left our organisation in 2007, Mosuru Akande, to read a press statement that I should resign. The media people who went there told us it was only one television station they invited, which is LTV 8. Even when the LTV 8 wanted to record them, an APC chieftain refused, saying he didn’t want his face to show. Because we have chosen to support President Jonathan, the APC has called us names, including thugs. These are the thugs that they were using before. APC should know that WINNING an election is not done on the pages of newspapers or on the internet. The people who have access to internet in Lagos are not up to 15 per cent. Ibadan is not up to five per cent. In the remote villages, most of them do not have cell phones. Winning an election is about house to house campaign and structures; it is not sitting in Acme Road or Bourdillon to send press releases to newspaper editors. Most of those who will vote do not even read newspapers. You asked why our group is supporting the president. President Jonathan gave us a seaport in Badagry, which will be the biggest in Africa. At the same time, he gave us an airport in Lekki, and another seaport in Lekki. Our own kinsman, Obasanjo, was in power for eight years and he couldn’t even work on the road from Lagos to Abeokuta. The Ogun State governor was asking him to give licence so he could build a cargo airport and he refused. President Jonathan is working on the Lagos-Ibadan road, and Sagamu-Ore road. As a promoter of culture and tradition in Yoruba land, who are the true Yoruba leaders and what is your comment to those referring to Tinubu as a Yoruba leader? Past Yoruba leaders evolved through struggles. They never evolved by election or wealth. Awolowo became a Yoruba leader based on his struggle and sacrifice for the Yoruba people. Chief Adekunle Ajasin also became a Yoruba leader because he stood by the June 12 and did not allow the Abacha government to cow him. After Chief Ajasin died, Chief Abraham Adesanya became another leader by standing for the people; he was one of the young lawyers that defended Awolowo when on trial. Since Chief Adesanya’s death, there has Tinubu is 98 per cent far from being a Yoruba leader. He does not believe in the Yoruba cause. He does not associate himself with Afenifere. Immediately Tinubu became governor using the NADECO platform, he divided Afenifere. He tried to destroy it and began funding the Afenifere Renewal Group against the mainstream Afenifere. When we supported Tinubu, Obasanjo deliberately hated the OPC because of that. When he detained me for 14 months in Kuje prison, and people went to him, he told them it was because of my association with Tinubu. He said he wanted to weaken me so as to get back Lagos from Tinubu in 2007. Tinubu was so smart to use South-west to negotiate, but he will never sacrifice for South-west, and allow people call him a sectional leader. Ojukwu became an idol today because he agreed to stay with his people. Awolowo was called a tribalist, look at his end; he is regarded as a tin god today. But Tinubu is not ready for that sacrifice. His target is the government at the centre. He does not want to hear anything about regionalism and lately true federalism. He wants the status quo to remain so that he can be part of those to share the oil wealth. He is a trader in Nigerian politics. People say OPC is supporting President Jonathan because of money. I have had the opportunity to be a multibillionaire in this country, but I will not compromise the interest and ideology of the Yoruba people because of any president. The OPC is supporting President Jonathan because we realised that he is an instrument to the way forward for Nigeria. What Tinubu believes in is Alpha Beta. He is making 15 per cent from the billions of tax that Lagos makes every month. Alpha Beta has crossed to Oyo, Ogun, Osun, and Ekiti before Fayose came in. So definitely Alpha Beta is going to Abuja if Buhari wins the presidency. Buhari could have not had problem but the hatred for Tinubu contributes to his reduction in popularity. The people surrounding Buhari are his undoing. They say they want change, can Saraki who pocketed all the local government money in his state, who still shares the allocation with the incumbent governor, who ran down Societe General Bank, change Nigeria? Many of those surrounding Buhari have serious cases with the EFCC. If Buhari wants to be principled, they will frustrate him. They will even use Osinbajo who is the second or third in command of Alpha Beta to frustrate him. |
GANI ADAMS is a responsible Nigerian, he has decided to follow a candidate of his choice and there is nothing wrong with that, are you telling me that because one is an OPC member he must exercise his/her civic right by voting, if OPC comes out and say non of his member should vote for any candidate you people will say they are irresponsible, now they have chosen one you are making noise, they can not vote for two candidates at thesame time, if they dont follow ur own candidate that does not mean you should castigate them every responsible Nigerian has the right to vote for candidates of their choice when they did the rally i saw them i stay around palmgroove side it was peaceful without any form of PDP banner or abusing APC it was all about Jega, i was surprised myself to see OPC in that manner of decorum, mind you if that is 1% of their population then they to be reckoned with in Nigeria politics of today, i did my findings about him and i discovered that he has members in over 53 countries in the world and 33 states of Nigeria so those saying he is seeing dollars for the first time are far behind in information anybody is free to verify my facts.THANKS |

Corruption is a "Dishonest or fraudulent conduct by those in power, typically involving bribery." but Nigeria suffers from systemic corruption, Systemic corruption (or endemic corruption)is corruption which is primarily due to the weaknesses of an organization or process. It can be contrasted with individual officials or agents who act corruptly within the system. Corruption has come to stay in Nigeria..... tell me which govt agent is not corrupt,...I use to believe NEPA,POLICE & CUSTOM are the only corrupt organization in NIJA,...NO.. Somebody that i know just left kirikiri prison Lagos for a Minor offence,he narrates his 10 days ordeal with d prison warders and concludes, "that's where corruption actually resides" i strongly doubt if corruption can ever leave NIGERIA,corruption in NAIJA gives birth every second in every govt agencies thereby making extinction virtually impossible,.....ONLY GOD CAN HELP NAIJA. |

Everything toonice reported are 100% correct , i paid the N10,000 just yesterday and my access code was sent to me in less than 24hrs. What JAMB is just trying to curb is just excess or overcharging the candidates , the N700 is fair enough , but the problem JAMB has to address are 1) candidates and parents insisting that the cafe should go and get the form for them from the bank that they dont have the time to queue at the bank, will u still charge N700 for the service 2) registered student making a false claim after registration due to disagreement over some issues because some candidates can be nasty 3) tutorial centres that has overcharged the candidates collecting has high as N20,000 and N25,000 from this candidates and brings them for registration in a cafe for N700, if JAMB now finds out who will now be punished or are they going to investigate before the access code is withdrawn please i need an answer to this |

I hav taught for years, post jamb is not what we need , what we need are 1) JAMB to conduct exam 2)give admmission to students with highly reduced cut-offs e.g if university needs 280 for medicine put cut-off at 210 3)addmitted student pay school fees but no matriculation and no accomaodation yet 4)At the end of first semester send 50% of admitted student that could not cope back home, this system is used in d school of nursing in Kwara state they call that exam WEEDING TEST 5)after the weeding test matriculation is done and accommodation given out ADVANTAGES 1)Students that cheated and those that study hard are given equal opportunity to compete in the first semester in school 2)students that are not confidence of themselves but cheated in d UTME exam but gain admission are sure of coming back home 3)some unqualified students that gain admission might reject such admission |

These critics have become masters at injecting willful fallacies, calculated falsehood and historical nonsense into history; and in so doing, have began to cast aspersions on the memory of the great Obafemi Awolowo. Chief Obafemi Awolowo was a political giant with an extraordinary mind and talent. He was graceful, charismatic and purposeful. Most of all he had vision, and was a nice and decent human being! Yes, Chief Awolowo had his shortcomings. He was not a saint. However, his failings and missteps were far fewer and less injurious than those of his contemporaries. Within the context of Nigerian, and indeed within African politics, Awolowo had no equal. None! He towered above his contemporaries. Not only that -- all the leaders we’ve had since his exit from government and politics have been political dwarfs. One would be hard-pressed to name a political leader in Nigeria -- since the second-half of the twentieth century -- who did more for his people and for his country than Awolowo. Awolowo was not a President. He was the Premier of the Western Region of Nigeria from October 1, 1959 until October 1, 1960. Nonetheless, his accomplishments dwarf the combined achievements of the last five heads of government Nigeria has had. And so from now until eternity his contribution to Nigeria’s socioeconomic and political life will be remembered and appreciated by discerning minds. As a federal minister under General Yakubu Gowon, he saved Nigeria from self immolation. From the time he began his political career until his passing to the heavens -- his two great public missions was to make Nigeria better than the way he met it; and also, to secure Nigeria’s economic, social and political future for the next generation. But he was unable to achieve his presidential dream because he refused to compromise his principles; refused to betray his constituent and his conscience; and also refused to bow to the whims of the Colonialist. In addition, he refused to obey orders given by Dodan Barracks. For these and other reasons, therefore, he was denied the ultimate political price: the Presidency of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Because he was denied this political price, Nigeria has remained in the doldrums ever since. In Chief Awolowo, we lost the brightest star we’ve ever had and may have to wait another seventy-year for a man like him to take Nigeria to the Promised Land. Frankly, to say he was a statesman is an understatement. If he was an American or a European, the world would have placed him in the same league as Churchill, Roosevelt, Charles de Gaulle and many others. We now have a budding school of shortsighted, narrow-minded, and mean-spirited critics who are into Awo-bashing: rewriting history, repeating age-old falsities, spreading lies and innuendoes and casting aspersions on the Great One. Charles Caleb Colton it was who said that “In life, we shall find many men that are great, and some men that are good, but very few men that are both great and good.” Chief Obafemi Awolowo was such a man. He was good. He was great. He was extraordinary in many ways. And so I remember him today as I have since his passing on May 9, 1987. Chief Awolowo was born at the right time, and lived his life in the right country. But whether our country was right for him is another question. His impact on the lives of millions of Nigerians is immeasurable. He lived his life for the people. More than two decades after his untimely passing, he remains the yardstick by which greatness is still measured in the most populous and most important country in the Black world. Twenty years after his passing, Awolowo lives on. He lives through his friends and family. He lives through his disciples. He lives through the great things he did for Nigeria. He lives through his writings and sermons. He lives through his political accomplishments. He lives through all those who believe in the goodness and kindness of the human spirit; and he lives through all those who genuinely believe in, and invoke his name and ideals. He truly was a truly great man. Because of his brilliance and strength of character, he was very much misunderstood and envied; and because most couldn’t measure up to his expectation and greatness, they vilified him. If you were not alive when Awolowo lived, or if you were not fortunate to have met him, well, let me tell you this: He was graceful. He was charismatic. He was purposeful. Most of all he had a clear vision of what he wanted for Nigeria and for humanity. Above all else, he was a nice and decent human being! Oh AWOLOWO!! Within the context of Nigerian, and indeed within African politics, Awolowo had no equal. He towered above his colleagues. To truly appreciate his greatness, all you need do is to take a look at the men and women who now dot, and have dotted our public estate and public space. Do so and you’d be hard-pressed to name a political leader in Nigeria, in the last 50 years, who did more for his people and for his country than Awolowo. In him we lost the brightest star we ever had and may have to wait another seventy years for a man like him As I think of Awolowo, I wonder what would have become of our country. I think of how far we would have gone in terms of human and economic development. I think of all the possibilities and the dreams and aspirations we had as a nation. I miss him. I miss a good man, I miss a great man. I cannot now remember who it was who said, “Some people come into our lives and quickly go. Some people move our souls to dance. They awaken us to a new understanding with the passing whisper of their wisdom. Some people make the sky more beautiful to gaze upon. They stay in our lives for awhile.” Awolowo was this and much more. He will remain in our lives for eternity. i luv this thread , Nigeria might soon break up,this absolute nonsense, who are they planning for the masses or their pocket, we are wiser now , they shd hav done this in the late 70's when everybody trusted the government, now nobody trust the holiest of the govt, they shd pocket their plan and just leave the subsidy ,or else this country wil boil, they think they can sweet talk us to accepting this useless plan of theirs, absolute rubbishhhhhhhhhhhhhhh @beef ur are not a nigerian or probably u are a politician that stand to gain in this last episode of ANIMAL FARM ; ![]() |
i hav reported this issue over and over on this forum ,but thank God for d judiciary,i like Fashola but his attitude towards d plight of common man is very unfair with his agents like,LASTMA,KAI,LASSA e.t.c, he does not care what happens to them, e.g he does not want hawking on the street,so what he does is arest them (o.k),take them 2 alausa in a black maria and impose fine and if u can not afford the fine then u are on ur way 2 kirikiri prison (not o.k), the truth is that that person hawking does not hav a job if he has why hawking . LASSA came one day to cary my daughters board that she uses for after school lesson just because they found it outside, i questioned them they said is been use 4 advert,i tried 2 explain but they are not ready 2 listen they ask me to go and pay N15,000 b4 it can be released. LASTMA, shd b made 2 direct traffic, not 2 arrest that is why they hide when on duty post so that no one wil see them, but immediately u stop 4 pedestrain 2 cross d road they show up to arrest u the next thing u are fined,Fashola might meant wel but his agencies are corrupt and wicked especially the so called KAI they can destroy anything |
@ texazzpete, u are perfectly correct , i hav been a JAMB chief invigilator for years , 4 that system to work it wil cost d govt huge lot of money and planning,i hav taught in many secondary schools in Lagos private inclusive how many of them has a computers in good condition not 2 talk of internet connections , most of them dont belive in it, they only belive in big buildings 2 hav high population,if u get 2 d school of a friend of mine as big and beautiful d school is there is just no single computer in d school , when i asked he wil tel u is this a comput school, @pharoh , i doubt if u stay in nigeria or even schooled in nigeria, u dont know whats up in this country, when it comes to things like this, u dont need 2 insult texazzpete, from d look of thing he knows nigeria more than u do,this project can work but not in d next 5yrs my own opinion, i suspect one contactor is abt 2 make it big ,from this, if i am in d contractor too i wil tel d FG that it is possible in d next 1hr so, i understand d game better this is nigeriaaaaaaaaaaaaaa ![]() |
electriccity supply to AGEGE ,AGBOTIKUYO AREA OF LAGOS is horrible and hav refused 2 improve, instead its getting worse they hardly hav light and when they do it is always a low current, business in d area is always paralysed, pls the govt can come 2 their aid |
As such, call Centre Agents that have since the last two years earned N74,070 would now earn N29600; ‘Junior’ supervisors that have earned N180,000 would now earn N72,000 and some Assistant Managers that have earned N240,000 would now earn N96,000 per month!!!! Imagine Airtel ‘needing’ to survive after a $10.7 billion takeover of Zain, the highest ever trans-continental transactionMy own view, might be totally different,am sorry i do not mean 2 hurt anybody, i stil belive a policy must b put in inplace 2,curb unemployment, the policy is 2 pay fresh graduate a minimum of N1.2M naira/month and allow them 2 work 4 a maximum of 3yrs pay them off and recruit another set,NOTE if this is properly manage there wil b no need of training and retraining staff, from my own view if u work and earn N180,000/MONTH for 2yrs i dont think u need that job again, i earn far less than, b4 i left and set up mine today am better 4 it,indians on their own are not worth working for or working with at all, |
@ beef the spirit that rules any election all over d world is d spirit of the devil,so what is wrong in invoking d devil to take control of his own business ![]() @ relaax 101 ACN is not a democratic party right from its formation,it does not belive in primaries,Bisi Akande once said on TV i quote "our party ACN does not belive in primaries and if u do not support this please leave the party and join another one "so, those in d party knows this so why are they complaining my opinion 1) PPLE shd pray that the spirit of God shd take control of election allover d world, that is why GENUINE men of God dont move close 2 politics because it is the devils business. 2)ACN as a party wil die in Lagos after Fashola and d only party that can take over from them is PDP on one condition, that is if they are SERIOUS because 4 now they are not showing any seriousness |
@ poster, billante or what do u call urself, when u want 2 compare or equate any situation, pls think deeply, petrol that sell above N100/per litre in US/UK is a function of (1) stable elecricity (2) per capital income is high (3)unemployment rate is lower (4) tansparency / sincerity of the leaders if any of these is applicable 2 nigeria then d govt can sell petrol at even N195 AS proposed, imagine yr 2000 they wanted subsidy removed, but because of d hardship that wil follow the subsidy removal they resulted 2 gradual removal, but stil wth this methods, nothing has improve in d country such that it wil encourage d citizen 2 support the total removal, therefore removing the subsidy is as good as killing Nigerians |
it is so clear that the constitution we use is designed by one man and for one man 'ABACHA' THE FOREMOST AND MOST STUPID 3 ARE 1) WASTEFUL SECURITY ALLOWANCES FOR THESE GOVERNORS 2)70% OF THE BUDGET ALLOCATION FOR THE LEGISLATORS (ACCORDING TO SANUSI) 3) WHICH AFFECT GOV OSHIOMOLE IS THE IMMUNITY CLAUSE , meaning i can do anything 4 anybody and anybody can not do anything 4 me, too bad a country |
1) u are divorcee so u quqlified to remary if u wish 2) he is a muslim he is qulified to marry and if married hs is qulified to mary more than one wife if he wishes 3) he avoids u, dont want to be seen around with u means he might be protecting his home if he is maried, and that means he is not ready 4 d second wife and if he is not married means he does not like u,because na matter what how busy a man may be when he meets a lady newly and truly like her, he wil always create time 4 the lady. AT THIS POINT U KNOW EXACTLY WHAT TO DO. |
FOR HOW MUCH ? AT LEAST WE ALL KNOW WHAT THE MINIMUM WAGE IS, SO WE CALCULATE FROM THERE MAY BE IS OF LOW COST OR HIGH COST , ![]() |
