I just came back from Nigeria and I have been living in the US for almost 20 something years after graduating from Unilag with an engineering degree so I know USA very well and I have done quite a lot of business in Nigeria and I know Nigeria very well.

Please do not and I repeat NEVER equalize a USA green card with 50 million in Nigeria. They are not the same. If you work very hard in the USA and plan your life very well and not extravagant. You can easily become a millionaire in USA dollars within a short period of time.

Some of my colleagues children who own businesses and a dozen of houses in high brow area in Lagos can not even secure a job.

Please take a green card over any amount of money given to you in Nigeria any day and any time.

Do you know, you can even start a business from USA to Nigeria and vice versa and make #20m in a month.

I have friends here in the USA who are not lazy and not extravagant and plan their life very well. Some are working, investing their money and some are doing businesses between Nigeria and USA. All of them I know at least a minimum of 10 own a minimum of 1 million US dollars in assets. One of my friend lost his job about 5 years ago and he is only buying used laptops and sell in bulk in Nigeria. He just bought another investment property in New York for $450,000 and paid cash. All of us came to USA with nothing more than $100 in our pocket.

90% of the pple making comments are just thinkin of 20mill naira, they probably dont know what a green card is.....some even think its a visa, thats why they said they could get it with 20mill naira!

While I agree that N20 million is a lot of money, basing your calculation on $10 per hour is not taking into consideration people with good jobs who earn more.

I work in the Consulting sector and know people who work in Consulting and banking etc in the US who earn 6 figures and those quite senior who earn 7 figures in dollars. it all depends. MBA grads entering consulting start on $145k excluding bonus so will they be impressed with a one off $100k payment? That depends on the individual.

For those who are earning lower level pay or who are business inclined and have good ideas, then you are right N20 million is something to be considered but it doesn't guarantee financial success. That N20 million can be multiplied in a few years or lost in a few years.

It all depends on the opportunities available to you.

Well I haven't said everybody earns such which is why I concluded by saying depends on where you fall.

I do know a lot of Nigerians both in the UK and US who earn such same as i know lots who don't.

As I said the attraction of N20m $100k depends on where you are at that point in life. If you have prospects for a successful career where you can earn a lot more then maybe not, but if you do not or have good business ideas then the money may make more sense.

Also people make it sound like because you receive N20m means the money will be multiplied. Not really, people lose money everyday don't they Investments and businesses go wrong and fail everyday don't they? You will be surprised how quickly that money will dissapearr in the hands of some.

All I am saying is there is no size fits all answer. It all depends on the individual, where he is in life and his prospects, goals and plans.

I see somany people condemning me already and calculating my expenses for me. Its all good but we see things differently. Somany said they would invest the 20million and later be able to send their children to US univ. I hear you oooo. Its easier to say when somany of you cant even manage a small scale biz successfully but you think you can make a fortune out of 20million naira? Keep deceiving urselves. All i know is you stand a better chance, even with you family if you have a green card in a good country. So you mean the people making it in those countries arr not subjected to the same tax you all calculated? And as the person proving super and calcuting my expenses and tax, i dont know if you the one here. I pay 1300 per month (all bills inclusive) out of the 3000 i make monthly and im married. I live in calgary, so you can get ur pen and start another calculation if you like. I save as much as 500-600 if i dnt get to send money home. Remember i just got here and i dont expect to be stagnant for the next 3yrs. So know what you are helping me calculate. Maybe the economy in naija would have been better if the hunger mongers called leaders did the right things but i say starting a biz with 20mill in naija doesnt guaranty you and your family a good life in near future

If going by what you typed, i want to presume you have lived there for about 10yrs, atleast 5yrs and probably you lived in US....you mean after living in US for about 5-10yrs, you cant boast of having made up to One hundred thousand dollars? The 20mill naira is just one hundred thousand USD and i know like a billion nigerians who have lived in the states for 5yrs, even less and have bought houses. Maybe its the country you lived sha. Well somany might see no sense in this but i still would say it anyway. I currently live in canada with a green card and i work $23/hr and 40hrs a week, pls do the maths and calc how much i earn in a month....mind you, this is my first job and i am just 4mnths old in Canada. Somany would pick 20mill and think they would start a biz with it....yeah it makes sense, only that 20mill might not sustain you for a long time and dont forget that theres no extra income to care for your needs, which means you probably would be practically living on the profits made from the biz you are starting and who says the biz will even boom?....remember you have families too that would not let you rest from the fact that they heard that you just received 20mill ooo. As i am, i can travel to any country i so like....any country!
But just analysing the two things, i think the green card is better cos it would give you the opportunity to make a good living both for you and your immediate family and you can make a living that would save you 20mill at the long run but on the other hand, 20mill will almost never give you a green card even if you get successful at the long run. This is just ma opinion sha ooo

Well i av a little to say and it starts with using myself as an example....i started knowing what it is to have girlfriends far back as primary 4, it wasnt because i was rotten but because i ws alwys curious and would alwys want to feel among as a teenager. This affected me in somany ways as both my father and mother were very strict and i would instead of confiding in them,do my things secretly. I bliv at the age of btw 13 and abt 20 or more, the curiousity and urge in a male child grows extremely high as this is d time he would be having pubic hair, wet dreams and so many stuffs like that. I think the best thing to do to ur child is make yourself his first girlfriend....which is, be very close to him and let him confide in you at all times. Its obvious that the boy fears his dad, dont let him fear you both and end up doing stuffs himself, probably confiding in an older male outside your home...it could be very dangerous. Teach him how to be a responsible young man and how to exercise self discipline. Spend d best time you have with him now cos one day, he would be alone and what you have sowed in him would either work for you or against you at that time. For somany saying beating is d best thing to do.......for you to av beaten him d first time is okay but dont make it an habit because he would fear you and end up having someone outside tell him beating is a normal thing growing up and by that time, beating him would be useless as he would be ready to get beaten and would still end up doing the unthinkable
