The Chairman, Police Service Commission, Mike Okiro, on Monday reacted to the allegation that he defrauded the commission of N275 million and vowed not to succumb to blackmail.

Mr. Okiri alleged that a staff of the commission, Aaron Kaase, of the Press Unit, colluded with a journalist to blackmail him with the allegation to collect N10 million.

The chairman, who spoke at a news conference in Abuja, said the commission received N350 million from the Federal Government to train its staff to monitor the conduct of police officers involved in the 2015 general elections.

Mr. Okiro had appeared before the Independent Corrupt Practices and Related Offences on June 4, following a petition by Kaase that he embezzled N275 million belonging to the commission.

“I still believe that a clear conscience fears no accusation and I will not yield to blackmail no matter how long it takes to clear my name.

“I have nothing to fear,” he said.

According to Mr. Okiro, the commission received N350 million for election monitoring/conferences/training of the staff of the commission and deployed them to states to monitor police conduct during the general elections of 2015.

The chairman said the commission spent N217.3 million of the N350 million, leaving a balance of N132.6 million in the commission’s project account.

He, however, said that on April 2, he got a text message from the publisher that he was doing a story on the alleged fraud.

Mr. Okiro said that the publisher claimed to have sent the story to six other newspapers for publication and demanded N10 million to cover it up and save him of the embarrassment.

Mr. Okiro quoted the publisher as threatening that “Gen. Buhari is coming to fight corruption, once the papers publish any such story against you (Okiro), he would remove you immediately”.

The chairman further alleged that the publisher, on April 8, sent his account details for the said N10 million to be paid into it to save him the embarrassment.

He said to stop the journalist from bothering him with the demand for the money, he invited and handed him over to the police Special Anti-Robbery Squad.

This, he said was after several calls and text messages from the journalist demanding the money.

“The result was mind boggling and depicted the comedy of errors. It was revealed that Mr. Aaron Kaase, my erstwhile Protocol Officer, wanted to wed in May and needed money.

“He (Kaase) felt the quickest way was to connive with the journalist to extort money from me so they could share it, and so he could conduct his traditional wedding.

“The journalist was brought to my office by the officer in charge of SARS and his officers.

“The journalist confronted Aaron Kaase in the presence of the commissioners, permanent secretary, directors and other management staff of the PSC,’’ he said.

According to Mr. Okiro, Mr. Kaase confirmed that he gave my phone number to the journalist to call and demand N10 million.

The chairman said Mr. Kaase’s suspension was done because Mr. Kaase was facing a criminal charge involving N1 million fraud.

He alleged that Mr. Kaase had been arrested and charged to court for allegedly defrauding someone of the money to secure for him a US visa which he failed to deliver.

Mr. Okiro said that Mr. Kaase’s suspension had nothing to do with the petition against him. (NAN)

PetsKeeping A Pet: How To Care For Your Pet by SleekyP(op): 10:38am On Jun 06, 2015
Owning a pet comes with added responsibilities. All pets require time, money, and love in addition to the specific needs of each animal and breed. Find out how you can take good care of your pet.

1. Make sure you have a budget set aside for adequate care. Pets are not very expensive, but there will be expenses from time to time. Expenses could include, visits to the vet, body care products, food and toys.

2. Ensure you schedule regular visits to the vet. Pets require regular check ups to spot any condition before it becomes serious. Make sure your pet is on schedule for shots and vaccinations, and you ask the doctor to educate you on what signs to look out for incase of any condition.

3. Ensure you provide food that meets the nutritional needs of the food. Cheapest might not necessarily be the healthiest. Do not feed them with your food, as the human food might contain certain ingredients that are harmless to your pet. With the advice of the vet, as for a list of meals that will keep your pet healthy.

4. You need to create the time to play with them and shower them with affection. Playing with them ensures they get exercise and mental stimulation. Buy toys and play-sets for you and your pet to use together. Occasional treats are good to encourage good behaviour.

5. Create a regular cleaning schedule and stick to it. Clean your pets every 2-3 weeks to avoid disease and bad odor. Clean their cages daily. Some vet clinics have cleaning facilities for pets. For hairy pets, brush their fur regularly.

PoliticsGovernor Fayose Must Be Arrested Immediately!!! by SleekyP(op): 9:15pm On Jun 03, 2015
SleekyP:
For the obstruction of justice; for barring lawmakers from their constitutional duties; for imposing illegal blockades and barriers around Ekiti; for blocking citizens and lawmakers alike from conducting their business and going to their jobs; for recruiting and sponsoring thugs and terrorists to participate in misdemeanours, public criminal conduct, reckless endangerment and obstruction of democratic processes, and other offences (including the rigging as caught-on-tape of the elections he was purported to have won in the first place), the governor of Ekiti state deserves to be immediately arrested and charged duly.

Fayose uses trailers to block highway

The ambition and occupation of one Nigerian citizen must never be put above the survival, occupations and ambitions of the whole. No single Nigerian citizen is more valuable than others. In attempting to save his singular job, the Ekiti governor has by his conduct obstructed hundreds of civil servants, traders and commoners from doing theirs and further denied them of their security. Citizens are being obstructed from seeing their families and seeking medical attention. The continued criminal conduct of the governor and those involved in executing his wishes is continuously leading to hardship and death of Nigerian citizens.

The governor by his conduct has violated the tenets of democracy which Nigeria is struggling to attain. Democracy has the advantages which the governor enjoyed twice, of processes that allow the election of candidates as he was. But Democracy fails to exist if the checks like the processes of impeachment are abandoned or obstructed. You cannot have one without the other. By obstructing this democratic process and protection, the governor has denied the very democratic process that got him elected twice. He has contravened the Nigerian constitution, conducting himself as an enemy of the state.

The governor of Ekiti is setting a very scary precedence in Nigeria by destroying our democracy and flagrantly obstructing the rule of law. By taking authority into his hands and the hands of thugs and terrorists, governor Fayose has become a rebel and terrorist no different from Gani Adams, Mujahid Asari-Dokubo and Abubakar Shekau.

We call on the Nigerian security services to immediately fulfill their sworn obligations by disbanding the terror formation on the streets of Ekiti that have been barricading our roads leading to public danger angst and terror. We also herewith call on the nation’s security heads to immediately remand Governor Ayodele Fayose into custody and charge him as applicable for his numerous crimes.

Ekiti and Nigeria is bigger than any single individual. Nigeria belongs to all and Nigeria belongs to no single person, politician or otherwise. Political thuggery ans violence which the governor has engaged in in the previous PDP and current APC governments has no place in progressive nation building.

CrimeGrandpa Arrested For Kidnapping In Benin by SleekyP(op): 9:03pm On Jun 03, 2015
SleekyP:
The police in Benin have arrested a 53-year old grandfather, Fred Ikhimu Arobi, suspected to be leader a notorious kidnap gang in Uromi, headquarters of Esan North East Local Government.

The suspect who claims to have 11 children, including two university graduates, was among suspects paraded by the State police command.

Fred who confessed to being a kidnapper while speaking to journalists at the police headquarters in Benin, said he was invited to join the gang by a boy he met at a burial ceremony, adding that, he was paid N300,000 in his first operation.

He further disclosed that one of their victim, 67-year-old Premie Eboigbe Ohakhena, who he said was his neighbor, was killed and burnt to ashes at their hideout in the bush, because his (Fred’s) brother died after stepping into a land dispute between them.

Among others paraded were two suspects, Sunny Owin and Saliu Momodu, of Eiye Confraternity who snatched a car with a view to using it to kill rival cult members.

Sunny who said he was not an armed robber, however confessed to being a cultist and that he actually wanted to kill a rival cult member, while Saliu said he was arrested after his girlfriend invited him.

Edo Police spokesman, Stephen Onwochei, said Fred was arrested after a painstaking investigation. He added that the suspects would be charged to court after investigation.

CrimeHow The N8bn Fraud In CBN Was Discovered And Exposed!!! by SleekyP(op): 8:57am On Jun 02, 2015
The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) yesterday explained how it discovered the N8 billion currency fraud. In a statement issued yesterday, Director, Corporate Communications, CBN, Alhaji Ibrahim Muazu said, “The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) would like to inform the general public of the chronology of events that led the Management of the CBN to handover some unscrupulous staff to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for prosecution.

“During a routine internal audit of the Bank’s Cash Destruction activities in September 2014, the CBN Briquetting Panel comprising Senior Bank Staff from different branches noticed some anomalies at the Ibadan Branch, and immediately reported this to the Bank’s Management.

On further investigation ordered by the Governor, it was discovered that a systematic scheme, which has been on for several years, was being run in which mutilated higher denomination notes originally meant for destruction were swapped with lower denomination currencies.

This practice known as interleafing, basically labels a box with a higher value than its true content.
“As soon as the Bank’s internal investigations concluded beyond reasonable doubt that some wrongdoing had occurred, the affected members of staff who are middle-level officers were, depending on gravity of offence, either summarily dismissed or immediately placed on indefinite suspension on 21 October 2014, and all handed over to the EFCC for further investigation and prosecution.

The CBN has also conducted a nationwide audit of all 37 branches of the Bank and found that this was an isolated scheme at Ibadan Branch. The Bank will continue to collaborate with the EFCC to ensure that affected CBN staff, as well as their accomplices in some commercial banks, are brought to justice.”
Recall that the EFCC on Sunday said that it has arrested six top officials of Nigeria’s Central Bank and 16 other workers of commercial banks for stealing and putting into circulation defaced and mutilated Nigerian currency notes to the tune of N8 billion meant for destruction.

The Commission said that the suspects have already been taken into EFCC custody preparatory to their arraignment at the Federal High Court, Ibadan on Tuesday, June 2. The trial will run till June 4 in a bid to speed up the prosecution of the suspects by the court.

A statement signed by the Head of Media of the EFCC, Mr. WilsonUwujaren, gave the names of the suspects as: Patience Okoro Eye( Abuja) , Afolabi Olufemi( Lagos), Kolawole Babalola( Ibadan), Olaniran Muniru Adeola(Ibadan), Fatai Yusuf, Adekunle( Head, Security, CBN, (Ibadan) and Ilori Adekunle Sunday,(Akure).

The 16 suspects who colluded with the CBN officials to commit the fraud are officials drawn from Zenith Bank, FCMB, Wema Bank, Access Bank, First Bank, Skye Bank, Ecobank and Sterling Bank.
