Buhari (President-elect), Samuel Ortom (Governor-elect of Benue), El Rufai (ditto Kaduna) Ganduje (ditto Adamawa) Amosun (ditto Ogun), Ajimobi (ditto Oyo) Ambode (ditto Lagos) all won and their PDP opposites called to congratulate and concede.

Flip the coin, all the APC candidates that lost (Rivers, Akwa Ibom, Enugu, Gombe, Ekiti, Ondo) all called for cancellation of the result in their respective States. They even burnt down an Emir's palace in Gombe.

Is this the change?

The person with the highest number of votes cast might not be the winner of this presidential election. Yea. You read right.

First consideration is who gets 25% of two thirds (24 states) of valid votes cast in the federation. After that you then look at the total number of valid votes cast.

So if candidate X polls 2.5m more valid votes than candidate Y but fails to garner 25% of 24 states and candidate Y did, then candidate Y carries the day. If however both candidates score 25% of 24 states then we proceed to crown the candidate who has more votes total.

Section 134 (2) of the Nigerian Constitution tells you this. If none reaches the 25% of two thirds of states, there will be a runoff between the first two withing 7 days. Not a likely event if you are really following the trend.

So, now I hope you really know what to look out for. It's not just the highest numbers but where and how often.
