Foreign AffairsRe: Nigerian Student To Be Part Of Obama's Inauguration Ceremony In Washinton . by Slim101(op): 12:19am On Jan 21, 2013
I posted this article in order to encourage our youths to be focused and aim high in whatever their dreams may be.
I lived with this young lad in Maryland Housing Estate, Lagos before he left for his studies in the US and I've always known that he had that drive to excel in him. I was happy (but not too surprised) when I came across this article online.
I wouldn't mind if the moderator can forward this to the front page so that more of our youths can be mentored by it. I also think we need more encouraging articles like this to lift our spirits.
Thanks.
Foreign AffairsNigerian Student To Be Part Of Obama's Inauguration Ceremony In Washinton . by Slim101(op):
A University of Minnesota Crookston student will be part
of President Obama's inauguration festivities on Monday.
Abbey Wemimo is senior at UMC and he's been invited to
Washington to volunteer in preparations for the
ceremony.
Wemimo, who is an International Student from Lagos (lived in Maryland Housing Estate),
Nigeria worked on Obama's presidential campaign. He
recently submitted an application to be a part of
Monday's event and was accepted. He says he has been
inspired by Barack Obama's achievements, and being at
the Inauguration is something he can tell his grandchildren
about.
Abbey doesn't yet know what duties he will be performing
for the swearing in but says he will be at Monday's
speech.

adewasco2k: He deliberately ignored it because blackberry devices with 0 mep left can't be unlocked using codes. Thanks. Not that it can't be unlocked but that's not what we offer here
But I would have appreciated more if u had just simply explained like you just did now. I really appreciate you guys' selfless job here (you are giving a free service that others would usually charge for)
* But I think it's not so cool when someone asks about what he doesn't know and you deliberately ignore it?
Thanks non the less.

And you expect serious minded people to contribute to your post with these your frivolous and unconfirmed claims?? Then I guess Barak Obama should be the richest man in the world by being at the helms of the largest economy, if we go by your theory.

FamilyRe: Should Family Position Of Your Partner Be Considered Before Marriage? by Slim101(m): 1:25pm On Dec 10, 2012
Kobojunkie: There is something that is typical with a lot of Nigerians, not just you. Rather than look for ways to release yourselves from those mentalities that have to date yielded not much in the way of progress, you look for others like you to feed you the same old BS so you can maintain the four-walls of that box that has caged you and those before you for generations.

You conveniently label it wisdom and understanding yet NOTHING in the bible suggest any of what you and your concocted in this makes sense. In fact pattern after pattern in the books shows that those who considered this sort of thinking wisdom ended up paying for it, dearly too. But, like I said, I know this is Nigerian way of reasoning and you are welcome to continue in that box of stu_pid ideas, and pretending they have to do with wisdom when even common sense continues to fly past you on a daily basis.

I am sorry you feel insulted but I have in no way insulted your person, only told you the truth about your thinking, your friend's and the fact that you are no different from the typical Nigerian out there, always looking for ways to AVOID applying common sense solutions, which consists is WISDOM itself, when trying to resolve even daily life's issues. Again, the Bible says Wisdom confounds the foolish . . . I see it daily in many Nigerians.
It is very essential to comprehend before commenting (be it e - or real life discussions) or else it will make u look like a junkie that is actually high on some cheap drugs.
You don't understand d OP's question and I think u shd have followed the thread for reasonable contributions before dropping your own 2cents, but u didn't. And u won't even listen to corrections!! So immature of you.

@Topic: Sensible observation. It happens a lot in Nigerian families including mine (I married a first daughter too). I think communication (btw d couple), unsentimental reasoning and wisdom (like u said) could help to manage the situation.
Even if u're financially endowed, it could still cause cracks in ur relationship when the burden of demands (not only financial) and transference of responsibilities are too much on you.
CareerRe: Kindly Help A Frustrated Soul by Slim101(m): 3:29pm On Dec 05, 2012
Robertomatteo: Thank you Mr Jarus for the kind words and compliments. I read Environmental Biology in school and finished with a second class lower. I have not been called up for any interview yet and often times I lay it down to the fact that I graduated with a second class lower in a less glamorous course of study but the truth is that I know what I can offer as an individual.

When it comes to skills, the only one I have is the ability to write. However, in these months I have been Idle, I have been cheated countless times all in the name of writing for people. No one wants to pay, and those that will pay can only part with paltry sums barely enough to pay for the internet research time. If I have been able to land a writing or editing job with reasonable pay, I won't be in this situation today.

Regarding having patience, I wish I could do more than this. You are right with my Graduation and NYSC timing but Sir, I simply cannot afford to go into next year without anything doing. Who knows, I could even be thrown out of the current place am staying anytime soon as the guy am staying with is already showing negative vibes and going back home will only kill my parents a little further.

Painfully, I see people I am much better than academically landing positions all over Abuja (both government and private parastatals on a daily basis).
@OP I feel your pain and quite understand what you must be going through, but alas you're still in a better situation (@ the moment) than a lot of other folks. Be positive. Think of what you can do on your own for the meantime and who knows, a salary paying job might come later.
My wife is an example, she finished her service year in 2006 and didn't get a job (in a bank) till April this year. After staying @ home for years, she decided to open a Noodle & fried egg joint. She's a very industrious woman and she can't get her integrity dirty (like a lot of our ladies nowadays) cos of the "no job" excuse. She got by with her trade and even employed younger girls later on. She never gave up on her job hunting non the less and God crowned her efforts 6 YEARS after NYSC (exactly 6 months after wedding) and mind you, she got the banking job without knowing anybody.
I'll advise you to think of what you can do and be positive (though I know it could be hard and frustrating too) Good luck.
PoliticsRe: The Media Is An Opposition Dominated Industry by Slim101(m): 6:37am On Dec 05, 2012
Ikengawo: what are you talking about?
I think you assumed that I'm saying the opposition dominating the media is a bad thing, or that PDP is good and deserves praise?
I'm simply saying that praise is sent in a lobsided fashion where opposition is overtly praised and PDP governors that perform aren't mentioned. What was the last article you saw about something being built in Awka Ibom? because the level of building happening there is unrivaled in nigeria but it still falls to silent ears because of our agenda driven media.
they want to create a situation where 'good news' only comes out of opposition states.
@OP. I also think your observation is lopsided. What do u mean by the term "Opposition dominated media"?? Are u saying all regular people like me and other honourable members of this forum also belong to d opposition?? You can mention El Rufai, Ribadu etc for all you care but they are all entitled to their opinions. Criticisms on this forum (by regular folks who doesn't have any political affiliation) has nothing to do with which political party's logo that is behind your picture . You sounded like a PDP protagonist yourself and u wouldn't mind us singing their praises even if when the heaven knows they have performed woefully. Maybe you need to increase the salaries of Reno, Okupe and Abati!!!

Chikebrain: 1- Go to Options/Device/Advanced System Settings/Sim Card
2-Type the letters "mepd" (without the quotes, you will not see anything on the screen when
typing). You should see the Personalization screen
3-Type "mep [alt button] 2" (without the quotes, you will not see anything on the screen when
typing). You should be prompted for the code. If you are not prompter for the code, Press and Hold
the ALT key and type MEP2.
4- Enter code when prompted
5-We always recommend to do a Battery pull after unlocking your Blackberry Bold 9900

CrimeRe: Weep Not For Cynthia But Her Killers – Osokogu Family by Slim101(m): 7:46pm On Sep 06, 2012
I honetly believe the 'business' line was a hoax probably intended by the parents (or whoever) to save face. Realisticaly, who would travel from Kaduna (or where she's from) to Lagos to be lodged by his or her business partners just to buy 'clothes'? This is not a mega business venture and anyone could have travelled because of 'buying and selling' business but a rational mind wouldn't agree to be lodged into an hotel by her clients (especially in a city like Lagos). A rational thing to do is to get into Lag, lodge into an hotel and call the clients (especially guys u've never met before) to meet u @ a public place to seal the deal. What d hec.k are they doing in her roon??!! Asides, this guys (according to d story) reside in Festac, is it neccessary she also books an hotel @ Festac??!I doubt the 'business' story and I strongly think she was there to socialise. I feel sorry for her though and I feel the pains her family would be going through now. This 'Cynthia' issue shd open a vista in d minds of everybody (especially the younger females). DON'T GET CARRIED AWAY WITH THE HIGH-LIFE!! I have a younger sis too in d Uni whom I've been lecturing before this episode and it just butressed my point. Just my piece of mind.

I think Airtel is the worst among th lot. I subribed for my monthly BIS on November 1st, used it for only two days and it was suspended. I've called their customer service over 40 times and they keep telling me it will be restored. The month is almost over and it's yet to b restored. Competition is a very vital thing when it comes to enterprise like this. I'll soon flush my AirHell tel line and return to my MTN.
