I believe the poster means "I.T." i.e. Information Technology. I guess it should have been corrected since. My take: I'd say I.T. is more interesting and brain tasking than most disciplines (depends on the sector u are in I.T.) As a programmer, sometimes who might almost go 'mad' writing a program. And I'll say u'll need a first degree to delve into I.T.
PoliticsMy Achievements In 2010, By Jonathan. by Slim101(op): 7:03am On Dec 29, 2010
PRESIDENT Goodluck Jonathan Monday gave his administration a pass mark.

Jonathan said he is gratified that this Christmas, Nigerians could boast of progress in some sectors, unlike what happened last year.

He wrote a message entitled: “Tangible reasons to wish you a Merry Christmas this year” on his Facebook page yesterday.

The President said many Nigerians were glad  that there was no fuel scarcity this Christmas unlike previous years, adding: “Note that this did not happen by accident but is a deliberate effort by this administration to ease the pains of Nigerians at this time of the year.”

In the aviation sector, he said, the country could boast of four airlines (Arik, Continental, Delta and United), with direct flights from the United States (US) while the country could only boast of one last year.

This Christmas, Jonathan said, Nigerians could boast of five functional international airports.

He said: “These new international airports made it easier to airlift Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu-Ojukwu (please pray for his recovery) instead of risking his life further by driving him to a farther airport. This Christmas Nigerians can boast of a Total Radar Coverage of Nigeria which we did not have last Christmas.”

The President’s statement reads: “My dear Facebook friends and fellow Nigerians, this Christmas, I planned earlier in the year to go beyond the usual practise of just wishing Nigerians a Happy Christmas. I desired to go beyond wishes and do something tangible that will touch the life of the average Nigerian such that when I wish you a Merry Christmas there will be substance behind my greeting. It is for this reason that I spent the last six months as your President working as hard as I could to have something to report back to you at the end of the year as a reason for your good cheer this Yuletide season.

“In the manufacturing sector, Nigerians can celebrate the reopening of three textile mills in Kaduna that had previously been closed including the United Nigeria Textile Mills Ltd.; which has reopened as a result of accessing funds from the N200 billion textile industry bail out funds leading to the re engagement of 2000 workers that were laid off when the company went out of business. These workers will have a pay cheque this Christmas where they had none last Christmas.

“In the education sector, this Christmas, Nigerians can celebrate an allocation of almost N1 trillion (N933 billion) in the proposed budget for 2011 to a sector which had less than a third of that amount (N249.08 billion) allocated to it last Christmas. In addition, Nigeria can celebrate this Christmas the addition of one new Federal University in each of the six geo-politcal zones for which work has already begun. The six new federal universities did not exist last year.”

Jonathan added: “In the arena of foreign affairs, Nigeria can celebrate recent successes in diplomacy in the handling of the arms seizure from Iran , containing the crisis in the Republic of Côte d’Ivoire and our pro-democratic efforts in  Niger Republic . Last Christmas there was a degree of uncertainty in Nigeria and our diplomatic efforts suffered with the Abdulmutallab incident.”

“In the area of human rights, Nigerians have seen improvements. While there was tension in some parts of the North last Christmas, this Christmas those tensions have eased. Last Christmas there were 27 soldiers serving a life sentence for an incidence that some claimed was not their fault but this Christmas they have been released and will spend Christmas with their families. Last Christmas several exiles such as Nuhu Ribadu and Nasir El Rufai etc spent Christmas away from their friends and families, but this Christmas they have the liberty to be with their friends and families in Nigeria plus there are NO Nigerian political exiles outside Nigeria this Christmas.

“Last Christmas the Southeast and some pockets in other areas where affected by the scourge of kidnappers, this Christmas those kidnappers have been largely routed and normalcy has returned to the affected areas for the most part. So all in all when we count our blessing we can see that we have a lot to be thankful to God for this Christmas.”

The blogger goofed about facts and figures (as JoeyCrack has found her out),

She could as well tell us 'Alaba Market' is in Florida or Yar'Adua's middle name was 'Aremu'
and u would tell us she's just covering her identity (Why blog it in the first place).
The only sensible way to cover your identity is to fictionalise your names and your address

Whatever. If you're writing friction let people know you're writing friction. I like the stories, just pointing out you might want to fact check whatever you're putting there.

SportsPlayers Not Happy With ‘supermarket’ Wcup Ball - They Say It's Like Felele Ball! by Slim101(op): 1:52pm On May 31, 2010
Several players are going all out against the new World Cup ball, with more than one comparing it to those bought at a supermarket.

And this time it’s not only goalkeepers who are complaining. Strikers, defenders and midfielders are also lashing out at the Adidas ball just a few days before the monthlong tournament is to begin in South Africa.

The ball is called Jabulani, which means “to celebrate” in isiZulu, but not many are celebrating it so far. It’s hard to find a player who is happy with it, and those who don’t like it are not saving adjectives to describe their feelings.

“It’s very weird,” Brazil striker Luis Fabiano said Sunday. “All of a sudden it changes trajectory on you. It’s like it doesn’t want to be kicked. It’s incredible, it’s like someone is guiding it. You are going to kick it and it moves out of the way. I think it’s supernatural, it’s very bad. I hope to adapt to it as soon as possible, but it’s going to be hard.”

Brazil goalkeeper Julio Cesar on Saturday called the ball “terrible” and was the first to compare it to those plastic ones bought on a supermarket. Italy striker Giampaolo Pazzini said the same thing, calling it a “disaster.”

“It moves so much and makes it difficult to control. You jump up to head a cross and suddenly the ball will move and you miss it,” Pazzini said. “It is especially bad for the goalkeepers if it means they concede a goal because they can’t judge the trajectory.”

Adidas traditionally launches new balls for each World Cup and they usually cause controversy because of the changes prompted by the new technology being introduced. Most of the time the ball becomes speedier and goalkeepers are the ones most affected by it. But this time the livelier ball is causing problems to field players, too.

“There is no way to hide it,” Brazil midfielder Julio Baptista said. “It’s bad for the goalkeepers and it’s bad for us. It’s really bad. The players try to cross it and it goes to the opposite direction they intended it to go.”

Spain goalkeeper Iker Casillas also expressed his anger at the design of the ball after the European champion’s 3-2 friendly win over Saudi Arabia on Saturday.

“It’s sad that such an important competition like the World Cup has such an important element like this ball of appalling condition,” he said.

Adidas said the technology on the Jabulani is “radically new,” and when it launched the ball in December is said that it would sail true because small dots on the surface would help improve reliability in the air. It said the ball would have “an exceptionally stable flight and perfect grip under all conditions.”

FIFA and Adidas did not immediately return messages seeking comment Sunday.

Adidas has released some promotional materials in which some of its sponsored players praise the ball, including Kaka, Michael Ballack, Petr Cech and Frank Lampard. Ballack called the ball “fantastic.”

Spain defender Alvaro Arbeloa, who also wears Adidas gear, had a simple answer when asked about the ball: “It’s round, like always.”

“It happens every time, the players always complain about the ball,” said former Brazil great Tostao. “It used to be the goalkeepers only, but now we have the others complaining, too. At the greatest competition in the world you would think that the players would like the ball, but that’s not the case.”

Players were already expecting the ball to be affected by the high altitude in Johannesburg and some other host cities. A study by Adidas last year showed the altitude will have an impact of up to 5 percent on the ball’s speed, meaning a 20-yard free kick will reach the goal line 5 percent faster than it would at sea level.

The ball is made up of 11 colors to represent the players in a starting lineup and the 11 official languages and the 11 communities of the host country.

“That’s the ball they chose and we have to accept it,” Baptista said. “But it’s going to be complicated.”

The World Cup begins June 11 with South Africa playing Mexico.

He did not bring a ballot box before the tribunal to prove that ballot boxes were snatched.

PoliticsOyinlola Wins Osun Election Petition by Slim101(op): 4:05pm On May 28, 2010
The governorship election tribunal sitting in Osogbo, Osun State, South West Nigeria, has ruled in favour of Governor Olagunsoye Oyinlola in the petition filed by the Action Congress candidate, Engr. Rauf Aregbesola.

Governor Olagunsoye Oyinlola of Osun State
In a judgment that lasted about three hours, the tribunal held that the petitioner failed to prove his case beyond reasonable doubt that election malpractices took place in 10 local government areas.

The Chairman of the tribunal, Justice Garba Alli said that all the allegations in the petition which include over voting, sporadic shooting and killing of voters could not be proven at all.

“He made mere allegations. For instance, where he alleged that some ballot papers were illegally thumb-printed, he could not tender one ballot paper that was illegally thumb-printed.

“He did not bring a ballot box before the tribunal to prove that ballot boxes were snatched.

“The tribunal cannot attach and will not attach importance to the allegations levelled against the election. Weight cannot be attached to the witnesses of the petitioner because they were all mere allegations.”

Justice Garba stated that documents tendered in the petition could not be linked to the case. He ruled that Aregbesola also failed to prove beyond reasonable doubt that there was non-compliance by Oyinlola to the Electoral Act.

Finally, he resolved the two issues in favour of the first respondent, Oyinlola against Aregbesola. He affirmed: “Oyinlola is duly elected as governor of Osun State.”

While the counsel to Oyinlola commended the judgment, counsel to Aregbesola stated that the battle had just begun. They vowed to appeal against judgment.

In response, Justice Garba asked them to go to the Court of Appeal.

Meanwhile, supporters of PDP took to the streets to celebrate the verdict.

CelebritiesRugged Man & 9ice's Private Phone Conversation On Toni Payne Leaked ! by Slim101(op): 11:21pm On May 20, 2010
“It started as a rumour that 9ice caught his wife Toni Payne giving Ruggedman a Mouth Action.I wondered where such a terrible rumour emanated from only to find out it was from 9ices song titled ”once bitten twice shy”.In the song done by my own friend,he sang that he saw his ”girl” (Not his wife Toni Payne) giving his ”friend”(Not Ruggedman) a Mouth Action.Since 9ice himself did not mention anybodys name in the said song I thought nothing of the evil, wicked rumour, but it spread wider and i heard a lot of people started assuming a lot and i have been called so many things by people over something i did not do.

Even some shameless soft sells unproffessionally published the rumour based on heresay, without talking to the partys involved, but i dont blame them. Some will publish anything just to sell.

I expected 9ice as a friend to come out and clear it up by announcing to people that it was not me he sang about in his song but till date he has not done so to reasons best known to him i guess.I called 9ice to talk about it and clear it up and he said so many things including that he will not come out and clear my name that has been dragged into a maliscous rumour.
I did not want to believe that 9ice has refused to clear it up because it is helping his album sales like some people have said.I did not want to believe it but I am happy i recorded the conversation and I want you all to hear for urselves what he said to me so that this rumour can stop once and for all.

Hear 9ice himself now and know that NOTHING OF THAT NATURE EVER HAPPENED BETWEEN TONI PAYNE AND RUGGEDMAN.

Pls after this,if anybody dares to mention my name in such a thing again its only God that will deal with such a person. ” Ruggedman

I think he may be trying to get the younger generation more involved in political debate. Its a good move, depending on how much interection there is, as well as dissemination of information. It would also be good if he can upload various Federal government projects around the country and their progress on facebook. Its easier for people to keep a check on whats going on (or not), if they can access it in one place that they frequent often anyway. Its a good move and a possible break aways from the norm. The use of the net/ social networks was crucial in Obama's presidential campaign.
Very good point.

um . . . . That you have chosen to believe this wonderful is no reason to label others as being PESSIMISTIC in all. Stop believing that FIGHTING OTHERS for having a differing opinion means you are a BETTER Nigerian or BETTER person in this.

Seems the man has already been on Facebook before now http://www.facebook.com/people/Goodluck-Jonathan/100000166322650

Going on FACEBOOK has yet to change a single government in the world; all it has done is connect people at a level, which cannot equal that Freedom of information, and policies that promote such can.
Obama went on Facebook, but guess how many Americans DID NOT CARE and still do not care to go on facebook with him? Millions more than those who did! Matter of fact, the people still prefer government to reach them by continuing to provide them access to information on government when they want it. If all you want is to be able to boast to your friends that your president is supposedly on facebook, then fine. However, if you want real change, Facebook does not profess to bring that to any people.

Communication in a democracy goes WAY beyond face book interactions. That is why one of the tenets of a true democracy is freedom of information, not freedom to appear on facebook. If you do not have access to details to help you better understand what is really going on in your government, what do you think facebook will do for you, or your wanting to change your government? Facebook ought to come after the basics, not before the basics, in my opinion. Even if he decided to hold town hall meetings in communities across the country, I do not think it will be as productive as it would if the people had access to vital information to do their research before confronting him with their serious questions.

By the way, you seriously believe you contribute your quota by signing up on facebook to post your comment, with next to no access to detailed information on how Government really works and where it really is. I wait to hear on CNN or BBC how the Nigerian President choosing to go on Facebook for Nigerians helped raise Facebook earnings by billions : D !!! lol

Please, think before you type !!
His going on Facebook is ok for those who like such things and have electricity, and internet access. However, for the million others who do not, how do they contribute their “quota”? By diligently remaining in the dark on how their money is spent by the government.

By the way, I am not on FaceBook, so should I now create an account when all I really want is my government to give me the right that ought to be mine, which is free access to data on my own government and how it spends my money? I really don't want to go on facebook. I would prefer the government sign FOI, which has been on the president's table for 7 years and counting.
Sorry, I meant that part.

Hey Miss(or mister kobojunkie) I read your post and appreciated your analysis except the part in bold (why do most folks here choose to be disrespectful while trying to make a point?)

You seem to be missing a particular point though, the National Assembly passes bills and the president signs it! Presidents dont make bills! The FOI bill (of which I'm a strong advocate) has not been passed by the National Assembly. This law was first submitted to the National Assembly when Nigeria returned to democratic rule in 1999, following a succession of military dictatorships.
But, the legislature's four-year term passed without the bill being voted on.

The bill was re-submitted after the current National Assembly was inaugurated, but the body has yet to push the law through till date! - this despite vigorous lobbying by the Freedom of Information Coalition. Over a hundred media groups, business interests and human rights organisations have joined forces to press for the introduction of the bill.

You might need to get updated on this! so if the present administration decides to reach out to the citizenry through whatever means (Facebook, Town Hall meetings or even Town criers) is that supposed to be a plus or do they deserve bashings for the gesture?

You or millions of other Americans might not be on Facebook or give a hitch about President Obama's reach through that medium, several million other Americans do and appreciate it.

Let's have intelectual debates here and not subscribe to disrespectful statements. Thanks.
