And dats cos the formation constantly requires that they move back and forth through out the game coupled with the lack of natural wingers so far, it falls to them to combine that function with theirs do. Leaving the defensive midfielders to cover their backs.
Two goals against city came directly from the failure of this sytem. Clichy lost a fabregas pass, Song went in the space to cover behind but the cover wasnt good enough.
Thats why i say until they get it down pat: positioning and the back and forth movement. The harder task will be for the defensive midfielders acting as cover.

I think it has something to do with adapting to the new 4-3-3 formation. It could be quite tasking for full backs. I guess thats why last season superb performers are looking rather average early this season. With time they'll get it down pat. till then, let the Dms put in extra work.
