There are fears that some Nigerian domestic carriers may skip aircraft maintenance schedule due to high cost of checks, which are usually carried out overseas and paid for in foreign exchange. This is because airlines will have to pay more for those checks owing to the devaluation of the Naira. For example, C-check of a Boeing B737, which is one of the regular aircraft that operates schedule service in Nigeria, cost about $500,000 (N75 million as at June last year). With the devaluation of the Naira, the amount for the C-check will increase to N100 million and that is when the airline gives long notice and queues for the checks. But the maintenance cost could rise to $700, 000 (N140 million) if the airline ferries the aircraft to what is referred to as under pressure, whereby the airline without long notice takes the aircraft to a maintenance facility for the checks. Industry experts have expressed concerns about imminent safety breaches should airlines succumb to the temptation to cut corners due to high cost of maintenance of their aircraft. They have therefore urged the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) to ensure effective monitoring of aircraft routine checks to forestall air accidents. Although NCAA has become stricter and is said to be monitor the airlines more closely, the International Civil Aviation Organsiation (ICAO) and the International Air Transport Association (IATA) posit that airlines have the responsibility to ensure the airworthiness of their fleet. The acting Managing Director of the Nigerian Aviation Handling Company Plc., Mr. Nobert Bielderman has warned that NCAA “must particularly increase its oversight functions at this time and a good place to start from is to begin audits of domestic carriers to ascertain their financial wellness”, remarking that domestic carriers current debts are alarming and the regulator must assist them to be responsible. “In Aviation, the domestic airlines would be worst hit because of current ticket prices are not in sync or responsive to current realities. This is due to unhealthyprice wars and pursuit of market dominance at the domestic side of airline business. Domestic air tickets are still significantly low despite increase in airport charges, taxes etc. These domestic carriers still maintain their aircraft in USD (foreign currency) and aviation fuel has not significantly been reduced if at all,” Bielderman noted. NCAA sources however said the regulatory authority would continue to do its job, but expressed worries that airlines may cut corner over time if the value of the Naira continues on the downward trend despite strict oversight functions of the NCAA. “Airlines do not have financial model in which they arrange the funding of the maintenance schedule of their aircraft. They pay for maintenance as they generate revenue, but before you know it the schedule date for the maintenance of their aircraft would come and the airlines may not be ready. So it will take some time before the airlines will cut corners and that will become disastrous for the industry, but NCAA will not allow it to happen,” www.thisdaylive.com/articles/naira-devaluation-airlines-may-skip-aircraft-routine-maintenance/203445/ |

Results from a total demographic study carried out by the Enhancing Financial Innovation and Access has shown that from a sample of 93.5 million Nigerian adults, only 33.9 million are banked. According to the EFIA findings, the other 59.6 million adults are either financially excluded or are served by informal financial channels like savings club/pool, esusu, ajo or moneylenders as well as remittances through informal channels such as transport services and recharge cards. “Essentially, this means that approximately, only one in five Nigerian adults have a bank account, with approximately one bank branch and one Automated Teller Machine for every 10,000 people,” the EFIA stated in its report. The situation, the report hinted, was indicative of a population that was highly marginalised in the area of access to financial services. The EFIA is an organisation committed to deepening financial inclusion in Nigeria. It further stated that since the launch of mobile money in the country in 2012, only 11.9 million adults (12.7 per cent of the adult population) were aware of the service. The report added that out of the number, only 0.8 million adults (approximately 0.8 per cent of the adult population) currently used mobile money services. It also indicated that although the formal financial sector had grown over the past two years, there had been no significant impact on the level of financial inclusion. Statistics from the Central Bank of Nigeria showed that there was an increase of over 300 per cent in value transactions across various mobile money schemes in the country between January and July 2014. Yet, telecommunication companies in the country said at the end of January 2014, the value of monthly transactions across different networks stood at just N300m, but reached the N1.2bn mark by the end of July of the same year. The General Manager, Corporate Affairs, MTN Nigeria, Ms. Funmi Onajide, said the figure did not include transactions carried out within individual networks. “The volume of transactions within the same period also increased from 12,000 deals in January 2014 to 35,000 in July 2014, representing 199 per cent increase. This showed the increasing ability to replace cash with digital money transfer via mobile phones,” she said. However, when asked why many Nigerians using mobile money were those with bank accounts, Onajide said telecommunication frameworks leveraged huge existing customer base and technology to drive significant adoption and that there was easier opportunity for access to financial services. She said, “That is why a collaborative approach between the telcos and the banks is desirable. “Given the population, size and complexity of the Nigerian society, a framework that allows both banks and the network operators drive strategic partnerships will be best suited for the attainment of mobile money vision for Nigeria. Unfortunately, that is not the case at the moment.” Onajide added that there was an urgent need for an all-inclusive framework that would allow strategic partnerships by all stakeholders, noting that this would ensure that Nigeria could deliver similar growth to that recorded by Kenya. She added, “This position is premised on the following key facts: African mobile operators have a wider reach than banks today in terms of distribution and, therefore, have the potential to on-board many more customers at the bottom of the pyramid than banks can through their branch networks. “As a function of this reach, but also because of this being an incremental service alongside core mobile services, the cost of acquisition for a mobile operator is far lower than for a bank. “Mobile operators are not deposit-taking institutions, and for the overall good of the industry, it seems to us that more collaboration between the banks and the operators is needed.” http://www.punchng.com/business/business-economy/60-million-nigerians-dont-have-bank-accounts-report/ |
I don't know much about tenancy laws and I doubt they can be enforced in this country. From what I gather, your landlord has been quite reasonable so far and you could have him pacified if you try a little harder. 6 months rent like others have suggested perhaps? I must say you made your decisions with not quite a lot of certainty. |
Akbee:What kind of slave mentality is this? There's How is a traditional attire inappropriate at a NIGERIAN wedding. It's bad enough that we've adopted white wedding as part of our wedding culture but here's you saying we are wrong to rock our traditionals at such functions? You must be quite high! |
As much as condemning jungle justice is the right thing and that it can never make things right, it is not so easy to blame the mob given the frequency of these acts. Their experiences have made them frustrated, hopeless and mindless souls. |
why do I have doubts about this story? I would never understand why men like you can't say no simply and firmly. We women do this everyday and it's not a big deal. Say NO sternly, threaten to expose her and it'll be over. it's not like she's holding anything over your head...is she? |
12 year old? I'd think that's quite young for these atrocities but then,it's 2015! ..and you mentioned he has been this way since he was 9? I would not suggest he be sent to any Juvenile home o especially not one in this Nigeria. I don't trust the system. He might come back worse than he already is. Do not take him for deliverance either. Is he a demon? C'mon, everything does not necessarily have a spiritual angle. Be careful else you a push him further away. The best place to be right now is his own home. His reasons for running away all the time may or may not be explainable Is he seeing it as an adventure or the key to freedom, where no one is going to tell him what to do? Responding to pressure from peers? Could be a stressful situation the child is under, a fear of getting consequences for something he did, a form of power struggle or rebellion?not wanting to go to school? So many things can be underlying but the solution to deal with this lies with his parents. Showing him they love him unconditionally by creating an atmosphere of acceptance no matter what, getting to know who his friends are and what they talk about, letting the child know they are interested in him and that they care-building a form of trust so he can always talk to them and depend on them. It'll be a gradual process but it'll work. All the best! |
African magic ....or Pen1s captivus? |
While it may have been a bit insensitive to joke with something that touchy on Helen's part,Stella business cannot just be her business. Her business is everyone's business. She can't complain. she can only live her life and make her choices as she pleases and leave tongues to wag |
Nudity had been the fad for some time now according to the media. You can only train your child in the way he or she should go and HOPE they don't depart from it because the things that are ready to make them depart are so within reach and are mostly beyond your control. |
Who cares? |
kilokeys:cool choice... I hope she'll be all you ever want. ![]() |

dat5starguy:a typo obviously... I hope your need to quote me has been satisfied. |
I read the first part of the trilogy and I knew I couldn't bring myself to read fifty shades darker and fifty shades free. The overhype started with the book. I have no thought about seeing the movie. Not worth it. |
babyosisi:hahahaha.. ![]() If that happens, then it's past the ordinary and it means they are on a mission. |
Thing about these cameras...you can from the position figure out the angle it captures and do your deeds away from it ![]() |

The fact that you both enjoy spending time together and being around each other is a positive. No harm in that. You are not kids and you have a marriage as a goal, you are doing just right. Nor let porsin pour sand for your garri o.. ![]() |
Joel3:Hahahahhaahahahahah just send the mods an e-mail to have them close this thread.Do yourself that one favour. ![]() |
Joel3:So far, NOBODY has found a sense in it after 49 posts.Does that not tell you something? |
Joel3:What agony? How many have complained to you? ...and to reiterate Efe's question..how is this thread supposed to change anything if there's really a problem? |
This is easy.Involve the police if he has some money your friend has some money to throw around. No one should let slide issues like this. The landlord should pay with a night in jail and forced to a public apology thereafter. |
The only thing stopping you both is how it will be perceived by people morally and culturally because it matters. You are only human to feel what you feel but will you be able to stand the heat that'll come with it? please bear in mind that tongues are going to wag for a very looong time from both the concerned and unconcerned. How strong is your resolve? I would honestly not encouage anyone on this path. Who says there isn't an equally amazing person for you out there? How many billion people in the world again? All the best in whatever you decide. |
100Cents:lol I saw that from the "should I give it to her " part of his post. he is a joker! |

You seem to be very comfortable and unremorseful about your away matches .Just don't take diseases home to the poor woman.
