xjiggy: Maybe u were too young to recall when MTN was claiming recharge cards could only be manufactured in S. Africa and they couldn't bill per second billing because it will cost them millions of Dollars to upgrade their systems. Then u had to pay #50 for a minute even if the call failed after 3sec. #20 for sms, minimum recharge card of #750 with one week validity and sim card for #34k. They even refuse interconnectivity with Econet in order to push their claim that they are "Every Where You Go". Look at those prices compared to now and Factor in inflation and tell me that's not exploitation and that I'm lying. It was Glo that came all of a sudden and delivered per secon billing and #1 sim card (#10k sim card with #9,999 credit inclusive).
I swear.... This guys really dealt with Nigerians oO sometimes I find it hard to believe my mums sim-card cost her 36K S/A don use us cashout for this life shaah
Gerrard59: The viewing rights of the EPL is different from that of the Champions League amounting to €350M ($450M). Furthermore, these viewing rights are meant only for the Nigerian market. However, Multichoice is not generating substantial revenues to recoup her investments considering the devaluation of the naira even when these rights are paid for in dollars. It's either Multichoice increases the price or she let go of some viewing rights. Nevertheless, the last time Multichoice lost the bid to the EPL rights, some subscribers left but most didn't because to these people DSTV is beyond football.
Yea I know all this, but anyways it's their decision and everyone has his/her own choices to make.... As for me and my generation "Football is Life"
Therevenger: Stop robbing Nigerians .with such comment it shows that you are one of their agents or they are a source of livelihood to you.
Don't mind them, the Government intervention was simple oO, DSTV should just operate on PAYG as done in other countries, even if they hike the prices of subscription, people won't even complain....someone will sub for a whole month, but due to electricity issues can only enjoy what he paid for approximately 10days
Yet the same Nigerians are busy attacking the government saying trash, what do Nigerians even want self....
kikero: Again, not everyone gets DSTV for football.
Maybe only you. But there are other people who watch the other channels too.
That's one of the reasons why DSTV outlasted HiTV. HiTV....had poor offerings apart from football. And the thing is, people have to watch something else when the EPL is not on.
DSTV had far more channels than HiTV in 2006 , which catrered to every interest. Women , children even some teenagers and some men don't care for the EPL.
Besides, Italian league, and Laliga haven';t left. Startimes has FA Cup, Europa league, and even the Bundesliga.
You think everyone is like you. They aren't.
Leave HiTv and 2006 alone naw... don't you think other competitors might up their game if they stopped showing football which is the major sporting event? Because we all know Nigerians must watch football with something else....
The thing is, back in 2006, when HiTV took the EPL rights away from DSTV and left them with 2 games per weekend, DSTV subscriber base not only did not drop, it still kept on rising.
That's because, contrary to popular opinion, people in Nigeria get DSTV not just for football.
1.Mothers and young women watch Telemundo, ZeeTV, africa magic, TLC, E tv, Food channel, BBC lifestyle, etc.
2.Children and some teenagers watch at least 6-7 children's channels . (The grandson of one of my mum's friends once got into argument with his grandfather after the latter restricted his watching his favuourite children's channel. Lol. The boy even get mouth report him grandpapa!)
3.Even men watch other sports apart from football. Tennis, boxing, athletics, etc.
4.Then there is the religion channel. DSTV has 7-8 christian channels. And 2 muslim channels.
5.And that's not talking about the music channels....up to 7 of them, for young guys and girls.
Even if Premier league goes, DSTV has plenty other content.
Switch to startimes. Startimes carries FA cup, Europa, French league and Bundesliga. DSTV still carries LaLiga and Italian league sans EPL.
Can you compare the subscribers and awareness of 2006 till now.... Now lemme burst your bubbles... @2006, even the president of Nigeria is still making use of java phones, now everything can be streamline on net with or without DSTV due to advance technology....Football fanbase has increased over the years unlike what we used to have in 2006
I can guarantee you, if DSTV should stops showing football matches in Nigeria, they should just close shop because they will experience drastic decline in patronage...
The last time I was about watching ATM vs Barcelona, and my sub expired, the speed I used in subscribing it can only be compared to that of "Speed of light"
Gerrard59: Yet people still subscribed to DSTV when HITV won the rights more than ten years ago. Or you think DSTV is only football? Or you think any organisation that purchases the viewing worth close to half a billion dollars won't charge subscribers more than Multichoice currently does? Considering that these rights are priced in dollars whereas revenues used to purchase them are generated in naira. Honestly, I'm gutted at the vast majority of posts in this thread. However, I'm not surprised as Nigerian politicians have over the years neglected the education sector which is why the citizenry think Cable TV is an essential commodity.
You keep saying viewing right worth millions of dollars but have refused to acknowledged the fact it's the same football matches that amounted to such funds (around €250m)
They should cease showing sports naw, then watch how most people will dump DSTV like bad habit...
Openbusiness3: Jokers! DsTv already 10 steps ahead of this dumb government. That's why they won't be renewing exclusive rights for EPL, Champions League etc. So they will just about break even at worst, and at best, they will still out perform all the competition. How many years down this line and NTA upon all the govt money and backing, is still a useless station and network that nobody wants to watch.¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I laugh at you, If DSTV should stop showing EPL, champion league matches in Nigeria, They should as well close down business in this Country, because over 80% won't patronize them anymore.... Shey people will sub just to watch a movie they can easily download online abi!!
seanwilliam: I love your choice of words. I thought you would say in all cases
Credit to DuBLINGreenb, the original poster Won't happen but las las hush done chop money, flex life, lived lavish, flown choppers, flown private, had the most exotic cars, mingled with celebs obtained connections, became a known international brand.
No jail can take that away from him, if he comes out of prison he will be better than most poor Nigerians because he has a platform, he has connections, he has experience, he is known and so on. He won't be starting from square 1
He can write a bestseller book, be a TV host, sing music people will buy, sell his story to American media companies, work for security organisations abroad etc
Most Nigerians live in houses worst than American prisons me typing this have not seen electricity in 42 hours straight, I paid aboki 50 bucks to charge my phone, American prisons have 24/7 electricity, gym, free TV, free laundry services, free phone calls and free food that is why black Americans even the celebs see jail as an achievement as street cred status bringer
how many haven't been to jail? you tell me as we speak many US celebs are in jail including Steven Spielberg's daughter, R Kelly, Da baby etc Even Robert Downey Jr, Lil Kim, tommy Lee, Mark Wahlberg have all been to U.S prison Their prison is not like our own many come out of jail looking better than they did before they went in.
Those quoting me will chose 10 - 15 years in American prison and a lifetime of living lavish for themselves and their family without thinking twice over being a poor Nigerian from birth to death.
Ask yourself what odds hushpuppi had of being as rich as he was without doing what he did? We all know majority of Nigerians will be born into poverty and will die in poverty but we all want to delude ourselves by thinking "I will be the one to make it" niggger that's what the other 100,000,000 dead Nigerians before you thought, you think every poor Nigerian chose to be poor? or they don't know your God or another one is "if he didn't do crime he would be enjoying by now!" Nigguh enjoying what exactly
Simple question please how many Nigerian lawyers do you know richer than or even half as rich as Hushpuppi? Even the celebs how many of them where as rich as hush? Only the very top 1%
Another quick question? Ask them how many years and how much suffering, and how much connections etc it took them to get that degree and then that position and if the pay for those without connection is adequate, do the same for every other profession except clergy and politicians
And decide for yourself what chance the vast majority of Nigerians have of becoming millionaires or even hundred thousandnaires ?
I'm not encouraging crime please don't do crime but let us be realistic in our thoughts and speech,
I thought if you go to school you must be rich until I was in a slum and a woman told me she did her youth service in taraba, I was surprised I was like wtf excuse me, she said yes she served in.... She didn't know I was thinking shocked thinking to myself "how did you go to school for 17+ years only to end up in this slum in this poverty" I assumed everyone in slums where uneducated never do wells, miscreants etc.
Imagine if she, like most young girls were compelled to sleep with lecturers for grades, or sorted to pass and all that thinking riches were ahead of them upon graduation only to end up in a slum without husband and children hey this isn't fiction this lady was quarrelling with another non educated woman the other day I recorded what the women were using to insult her. Her lack of husband and children she kept saying she sacrificed all that for school and her future but you decide if this is a future worth losing sleep for, worth losing meaningful relationships for
Don't worry out of respect and privacy I didn't show her face.
Extra fun fact did you know?? Nigeria made more money from Yahoo boys in 2019 than from Agriculture think about it. Copied
"No jail can take that away from him, if he comes out of prison he will be better than most poor Nigerians because he has a platform, he has connections, he has experience, he is known and so on. He won't be starting from square 1"
Too much Hollywood don deceive you... Truth is that, if he eventually comes out, square zero is his case, he will be stigmatized, No Country will be willing to accommodate him anymore apart from 9ja, I don't think baba can live to experience poverty once more.... His only remedy is to turn to God and become a Preacher!!
I guess he should just forgive her if that's her only flaws... Perhaps she acted based on the current situation of things without considering the consequences that she can't even get away with it...
Guys be like... "So after sleeping with all the men in the neighborhood both far and near, e reach my turn you start dey find serious relationship" e be like say your head no correct...
OkikiOluwa1: So you know this life no balance a d you were too harsh on CR7. Ontop say the guy scored most long range shots. Messi fans are blindly hypocritic
ifiokjohn: It means you're a liar then. and even if I meet you again, I will take and your words with a pinch of salt
So i should go to twitter and Instagram on Cr7's official page and start surfing for what won't credit my account just to proof a point to you...like seriously?? Adim busy men...!!
CanadaOrBust: How? Please explain the dynamic to us. Where does the money come from? How does it benefit a state to have the stigma of being full of Covid and therefore should be avoided and possibly quarantined by FG??
I can't explain such... Everything is quite easy to comprehend
FuckDaMods: Okay.. Since Messi can't be the keeper defender midfielder and striker just like CR7, what stopped him from winning with tapin then?
Why should he... when he cooks his own meals... perhaps una plans done de work, Info have it Messi has decided to leave Barcelona because of una cho cho cho....
