YoungLionken: I think the military needs the sanitization more in evaluating/ascertaining their mental health status.. Because these days, the Nigerian military (army in particular) be doing the most against its citizens it is supposed to protect from harm. In fact, to be scared/careful of a typical Nigerian soldier is safer and more reasonable than to be scared of a bandit... Soldiers are everywhere around us and they are the coolest individuals you can come across. But if you think that killing and beating uniformed men who put their lives on the line to preserve yours is normal behaviour in a sane society and that the soldiers are not humans too who feel pain, then yes you have every reason to be scared of the military for you are actually a mental bandit. |

NothingDoMe: See why raising MPR does does not boost investor confidence when the rate of currency devalution exceeds the MPR?
CC SmartyPants. When last was the rate of devaluation up to the MPR not to talk of exceeding it? Taking 1500 as a benchmark, has Naira devalued by up to 10% at any point since March? The MPR is well above any current and projected devaluation which at its worst will not swing by more than 20% from 1500. Investors who enter at 1500 or lower know that they are safe. |

NothingDoMe: No! Lmao. The interest rate on financial instruments like bonds or mutual funds are per annum!
As at April 2024, treasury bills was approximately 21% interest rate per annum. To get the approximate monthly rate you need to divide by 12 which gives 1.75%. Or you can see the attachment I've provided for a more accurate calculation.
I'll soon start charging you for this free financial advice you are enjoying. Who said anything about monthly interest? How do you read all that and come up with monthly interest? You are definitely not okay. Obviously been a total waste of my time trying to explain a single thing to you. |

NothingDoMe: When has London Economics worked in Nigeria?
Asking me to "Google" tells me you're not an investor. You probably don't even know what a $100 bill looks like except you check Google.
I guess you meant "Naira devalution" not "Dollar Inflation". The point of raising the MPR to attract foreign investors is simply for the investors to bring in their FX, change it to Naira, and invest in the Economy.
Now if I bring in $100, change to N150k @ the rate of N1,500 and invest. If Naira devalues to N1,600 within a month, I would have lost a certain percentage on my invested funds. Naira has recently devalued faster than the MPR.
Yes. Foreign investors don't invest their FX and take Naira returns back to their country. They take their capital/profits in FX. An unstable currency is bad for busines.
I actually feel sympathetic that I have to explain all of this to you. Even if you want to defend the government you can at least do some research. The fact that you're not an investor is not an excuse. I don't know if some of you just come to Nairaland to argue as if your life depends on it. You just mentioned that if you invest at 1500 and naira shifts to 1600, you have lost a certain percentage. Now, I've told you that these are not ordinary investors. These are people who invest in financial instruments. Don't you understand?? That means they earn a fixed interest rate at the same level or higher than the MPR. So if you invested at 1500, your profit is say 27%. If naira devalues to 1600, you lose about 7%. Now your profit is 27% minus 7% in this situation, so 20%. I want to believe this makes it clear to you. Bye! |

It is usually the local supporters that talk nonsense they cannot defend. Then add street talk to seem smart and go further to like their comments with their own monikers.
Again, why would I change my USD to invest in Naira when I know that the Naira is unstable? Answer simply. If you don't know just say you don't know. 😄 Lol. You think and behave like a toddler. Why are you telling me all these stories? What I've shared with you is objective economics - this is how it works from London to Lagos to New York to Tokyo. You can google it you know? Just as our primitive ancestors did, that which you do not understand you ascribe to voodoo. A thoroughly bush fellow you are! Now that your scolding is out of the way, what you need to know is that foreigners invest in our financial instruments. APC Tinubu and Voodoo economics are like 5 and 6 Because one leads and the other follows after a short adjustment period. I think that's fairly obvious. |

While this is good news, there was no data or any recognisable fundamentals either from the Central Bank of Nigeria or the Ministry of Finance to justify the latest upward surge. lol. People just write without having a clue what they are talking about. Last week the MPR was raised again - this should always trigger fresh forex inflow which should then depress the USD exchange rate for a while. |

Despite all the boreholes Obi gave them, is this how to reciprocate?🤓 It would take extreme naivety for one to think that the grudge between the north and the east can be undone by boreholes. I've come to realize that most Nigerians are not even aware of the issues. In a divided country, you wiped out all the top cultural, religious, political and military leaders of a single region in one night and you don't understand that you sowed deep roots of hatred for generations to come? Granted the North did their own back and in excess by killing thousands of innocent civilians and uninvolved military officers but that scar remains and will always remain until a wise leader understands that Nigeria cannot be built until there is an open truth and reconciliation process. |

Quintessence44: Stop talking rubbish.
The Nigerian military is even MORE powerful today, with better training, and more and better weapons.
They can never be as effective fighting an internal terrorist group in Nigeria for the simple reason that their ‘success’ in that depends on the amount of damage they can cause within the country, making it a terrible dilemma, which prevents them from exercising their full strength and armoury on the terrorists/bandits etc.
Send them out to fight a foreign war where there are no such restraints, and you will see they’re a fearsome fighting force. I read his comment and internally I said what you just said but didn't bother to reply. Whatever act was taken against the officer, giving the police a chance to investigate properly and by now those culprits would've been arrested. In Nigeria the military, by law, is empowered to have a policing function. Take a look at the Armed Forces Act. |
