onlinestaff247: Increased demand for goods and services should lead to more hands or labour to cultivate foodstuffs.
We should not be applying the old Economics or Law or demand and supply.
It should lead to growth in the market sector as there would be influx of sellers. Lol but you are also applying the same principles. An influx of sellers will happen, yes but this is long term. Okay imagine the prices of tomatoes shoot up and you want to invest. It will take you at least 6 months you enter the market. By the time demand and supply reach a new equilibrium point you will realize that we only shifted from Point A to point B along a 180 ° axis. |

Does it make sense? Nigerians are the cause of their problems. Increased spending power = increased demand for goods and services = increased prices for goods and services. Its logical. |

DMerciful: Don't be dramatic, power cuts for days happen all the time.
Coming to equity here refers to the fg that were playing hide and seek with labour forcing labour to withdraw their workers at TCN. Since the grid cannot run itself, do you expect then to leave it running? What we are saying is that cutting off the power grid is a direct punishment on the masses. That the grid frequently goes down is bad enough. To deliberately plunge us all into avoidable discomfort makes no sense. If you want to fight the fg, then picket government sceretariats, picket the offices of members of the executive. There are a hundred ways to make your point without harming the innocent. These are the reasons why many like myself don't see any sincerity in the current NLC leadership. These are politicians building their peesonal profiles. Its also obvious that a minimum wagebof 60k is a fair figure. What is the point of fighting for 100m when the States will never pay this? Can the private sector afford to pay 100k as a minimum wage? What then becomes of inflation sir? When you invoke the name of the masses sincerity must be the key word. |

Oh, so you think if the country's revenue dwindles, the people at the top will not see their own urgent 2k? When we talk about minimum wage we are not talking about an average wage. We are talking about the lowest salary to be paid and for your info, this applies not just to the government, but to private enterprises with 50 or more staff. So how is it practical to insist on a minimum wage of almost 500k? Let the strike last for a week na let's see who will feel it more. |

lexy2014: pls where is it in the story that they "were stopped on the way there rather than seized at the Station?" if you acknowledge that there is a picture of the rescued students at a police station, how then is "it likelier that they were stopped on the way there rather than seized at the Station?" on the way to where? You are fond of roaming Nairaland asking ridiculous questions. Can't you read? However, in a telephone chat with our correspondent on Sunday night, the Army PRO, Stephen Nwankwo, said the rescue team comprised officers from the office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA), the Army, local hunters and a police team.
He said the victims were taken to Abuja by the rescue team, emphasising, “It’s not our men here. So I don’t understand how we forcefully took away the victims.
“The abductees were abandoned following the superior firepower from our men and they were being driven away but stopped at a police checkpoint before they proceeded There was nothing like forceful overpowering.” Why would the army drive to their station to go and forcefully collect kidnapped victims? That would suggest there must have been some communication for the soldiers to know that there are kidnap victims and that they were being kept at a particular station. The Police report further mentions that the army was on patrol when the incident occurred - so why would they leave their patrol to branch to your station? This gives more credence to the army version of the story which says there was a joint task force. That would explain how the army was aware of the rescue. The rest is obviously he said she said. But form the totality of the evidence, I've formed my opinion. |

Offpointng: So why did the Army come and whisked them away? to take the credit or what?? I wouldn't know but clearly even the Police have not questioned the Army's right to do so, rather they are complaining that it was done forcefully. As for the reasons, we'll soon know, but if you read the story, you would have seen that the claim was that the raid was led by officers from the office of the NSA, so probably there was a need to have the victims debriefed by that office. I'm not holding brief for anyone anyway, as both the police and army are capable of gross misconduct. |

MASTAkiLLAh: if you had to ask that number two question then, you know nothing about our police especially the MOPOLs. I keep telling you people, stop underestimating the police and their capacity to work. Make friends with a MOPOL officer and let him tell you some things. Mind you, they can be corroborated with any soldier of your choice All I want is evidence that they are rated higher than the army, and I want to know who made such rating. I'm very aware of how things work on the frontline: the practice has always been that the army clears the front then the mopol or CTU are brought in to garrison the cleared territory while the army then pushes on to deeper locations. If you doubt me, you should be able to mention the locations of MOPOL forward operation bases, mention territories that were reclaimed from insurgents by the police, etc. The MOPOL are largely engaged in urban protection either in guarding sensitive installations or protecting VIPs. If I'm wrong, you must have some facts to prove it. Let's not do beer parlour talk this early Monday. |

nedekid: In that case it is to hammer cbn with a class action suit in billions. That rubbish of cbn saying NDIC is responsible for settlement of your money and then limited to 5m should be challenged. If the cbn licenses a bank, then enables them take deposit from customers under the supervisory role, the regulatory role of the cbn, the same cbn then withdraws the license stating the bank is not doing well, then the cbn ought to immediately payout the deposits to depositors, then recover its monies through the NDIC liquidating the assets of the bank. Simple! The cbn cannot place the burden and inconvenience of the loss on innocent customers! If I were a lawyer I will take this up as a class action suit, gather he customers, negotiate 40% of any judgement and then handle the case on a no win no fee basis. Lawyers have done this abroad and become billionaires, some lawyer won a class action suit of over $200b against cigarette companies in the US. Ned nwoko did the same and won money for Nigerian states and local governments from imf etc. I think there is a slight miscommunication on the issue. NDIC is playing a dual role here. One it will pay up on deposits below a certain threshold. But also it will sell the assets of the bank and use the proceeds to pay any remaining creditors or deposit holders. |

dangermouse: You are just assuming even in the face of evidence and the police confirming it that they took the victims from the police station.
Why is it then that the newly created unit being trained by the Army are rated higher in fighting insurgency?
Do your research. What are you trying to say? The army said they took them at a checkpoint. The police said they took them from a station. Those are the only two pieces of evidence and they're obviously contradictory. I've given my reasons for believing the army side but if further evidence surfaces then certainly. Why is it then that the newly created unit being trained by the Army are rated higher in fighting insurgency? That's good but I asked for evidence. So again, who exactly did this rating you are talking about? Can you tell us where exactly on the frontline the police are leading the fight against insurgents? |

What you don't really know is that mobile policemen and other police units have been proven to be more effective in fighting these insurgents hence why they are massively drafted into the fight against terrorism.
It will shock you when you find out many things going on.
The police cannot come out openly to lay unfound allegations on the Army. I believe they have documented evidence and you can see one posted above u. 1. Even with the pictures of the victims at a police station you are still typing this? The police said they were preparing for onward movement to Ilorin. Isn't it likelier that they were stopped on the way there rather than seized at the Station? Being pictured at the Station would not disprove this version of the story. 2. What you don't really know is that mobile policemen and other police units have been proven to be more effective in fighting these insurgents hence why they are massively drafted into the fight against terrorism. Can you substantiate this? Even the newly created elite Police counter terrorism unit receives their training from the army so where did you get this information? |
Politics › Re: Soldiers Invade Kwara Police Station, ‘eject Rescued Students With Force’ by SmartyPants(m): 11:06am On Jun 03, 2024 |
The army version of story makes a little more sense to me.
Police: An army team on patrol stopped at the police station to collect the victims forcefully.
Army: We went on a joint raid with local hunters and a police team, and they stopped at an army checkpoint where the victims were dropped/taken and transported to Abuja.
I would highly doubt the capacity of the police to engage bandits on their own so that is the first reason I believe the army more. Also in such raids, it's typical to go along with local hunters and vigilante groups. So the army's version is more credible.
Also i think it's more plausible that the team met soldiers at a checkpoint than that the soldiers left their patrol to come and meet them in their station. |
