The way I hear it, there are curious signs of
improvement in Nigeria. Among them: electricity and petroleum products seem to be more available. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) seems to have a bolder and firmer understanding of economic and financial crime. The police appear to be reinventing policing, slowly turning its focus to crime and criminals, and somewhat away from law-abiding citizens. Alongside—or on top—of all of this, is a new industry: the manufacturing of excuses and explanations which favour of Nigeria’s former leader, Goodluck Jonathan. Among its most notable: The National Peace Committee, headed by General Abdussalam Abubakar; Dr. Mike Okonkwo, the leader of the Redeemed Evangelical Mission (TREM); and Nobel Laureate Wole Soyinka. Professor Soyinka gave his remarks when Jonathan was still in office, although they have just been published by the EFCC. “There are forces around Jonathan, you put your fingers around it, which he himself does not understand and that is why I stressed that, you've got to choose your circle of advisers very carefully, when you are in charge,” he said. “He's been caged; things are going on…he did not know about." He added: "When it comes to the issue of corruption, Jonathan surrounds himself with certain unsavoury characters and that is something you don't have to do if you are in charge.” Bishop Okonkwo, for his part, told Vanguard newspaper that GEJ appeared to have been under a spell, from which Nigeria’s “Men of God” failed to deliver him. The Christian chieftains, he said, had “the responsibility of taking him out of the spell, [praying] with him even for three days and whatever was holding him would have been removed…” Then there is the “Peace Committee,” which visited President Muhammadu Buhari last week supposedly “to discuss how to “wind up” and to check if there was a new national assignment they could undertake.” Committee member Bishop Matthew Hassan Kukah, the respected Catholic Archbishop of Sokoto Diocese, explained that the committee was not against combating corruption, but wanted to ensure “due process”. They wanted to make it clear this was a democratic 2015—not a 1983 military contraption—and that all are innocent until proven guilty. It was curious that the committee went to the president, who has consistently underlined the rule of law, to make the case about the rule of law. Contributing to the same developments last week was the PDP’s Senate Caucus, headed by former Akwa Ibom State governor and now Senate Minority Leader Goodswill Akpabio, which denounced Buhari’s push against corruption. “The current war lacks transparency, fairness to all and appears to be aimed at political adversaries,” the group said in a statement. They alleged that in the PDP States of Abia, Rivers and Akwa Ibom, the State Security Service was hounding government opponents and intimidating electoral officials using “trumped- up” charges. “The PDP Senate caucus is worried, alarmed and shocked by the recent development in our polity where the DSS is now involved in electoral matters,” they said. All of this is coming on the eve of an anti- corruption comeuppance that Buhari has promised since he began to contest for the presidency in 2003. That was before GEJ was ever heard of as a politician; before Akpabio became governor; and before one Marilyn Ogar— not a Buhari government—dragged the DSS into electoral matters. The problem is that all of this constitutes dancing on the periphery of the dance floor, which is that Mr. Jonathan will find it hard to avoid a corruption mud-bath in which he could drown. Such an embarrassing prospect could have been avoided, perhaps in 2010 when Jonathan routinely said he would combat corruption, only to embrace it. It could have been avoided in 2011 when he erected his vast mountain of electoral promises that he would scandalously ignore. It could have been avoided in 2012, but that was when he scornfully rejected the notion of declaring his assets, and then began to provide philosophical cover for corruption. Nigeria is the funniest village on earth when it comes to corruption. Every single citizen wants the menace to be confronted and defeated, unless where it involves us or our relatives, political or otherwise. That is when we call the idea unprintable names. This is the fork in the road at which we now arrive. At one end is the meaningless Peace Committee, hiding under the umbrella of “due process” to trumpet GEJ’s “spectacular achievements” as a currency. Where did GEJ hide his “spectacular” achievements? Did he defeat Boko Haram? Did he defeat unemployment? Did he defeat corruption? Did he implement his electoral promises? Did he implement a presidential report? Did he Transform Nigeria? Did he Bring Back Our Girls? Did he inspire a child? Hopefully, the Peace Committee will provide answers, or else leave us with the conclusion it simply wishes a “soft landing” for GEJ ahead of the imminent probe of his kleptocracy. Otherwise, why preach due process to a government that has declared it to be non- negotiable, especially when you have never said anything productive about the scorched-earth corruption in the land? Soyinka has unfortunately also provided the sour suggestion that GEJ may somehow be less than culpable for the mess he made of his leadership because he was “caged,” and had surrounded himself with “unsavoury” characters? Who caged GEJ? The characters he surrounded himself with were his, and at no point did he reject anyone as undesirable. In fact, he went out of his way to bring back to respectability such characters as former Bayelsa State Governor Dipreye Alamieyeseigha, granting state pardon to a man recognized internationally as a byword for corruption in our country. Similarly, if you take away Bishop Okonkwo’s coded language, Jonathan was a good man with great intentions. He wasn’t caged; he was trapped behind a spell. Finally, Senator Akpabio, himself the poster child for lack of accountability, now leads the PDP’s charge against what the party describes as lack of transparency and fairness. Akpabio ran AI like a personal estate from an executive jet, an expensive toy AI never needed. And it is on record that in 2014, he confessed the malfeasance that was the PDP. “We have messed up…” he told Obasanjo during a well- publicized encounter. “For me, I don’t want to go to jail and my children are too young.” Akpabio was begging that his children not have to face such a imposed on them by the menace of the PDP, but he showed absolutely no concern for the children of hundreds of millions who suffer deprivation and pain every day for the same reason. In the end, the question is whether, in the Jonathan years, what passed for governance in Nigeria was one, and whom it benefitted. The time has come for those who ran Nigeria to answer questions about what they actually did, and how. It is a question of justice, not opinion. Where I come from, that is called “answering your father’s name.” It is actually a simple question, unless you have no idea whom your father is. In that case, you might call the question malicious, or a witch-hunt. • sonala.olumhense@gmail.com • Twitter: @SonalaOlumhense |
Is this the end of the road for Nigerian women
famed for exploiting young ladies, luring them
into sex slavery and running prostitution rings
outside the country? Only time will tell.
Not too long ago, one Esther Nicole Otubo and
a young Nigerian lady simply identified as
Precious made the headlines for the wrong
reasons – The former being the ‘dealer’ and
the latter the ‘item’.
Esther Nicole Otubo, one of the ‘Dubai
Madams’.
This case of a young lady started in August,
2014; when the starry-eyed Precious was lured
into the illicit trade and, as part of measures
to get her to pay up her daily dues, made to
‘swear an oath’ in front of camera. Actually,
she was naked as she stood in front of the
camera. This act would serve as an ‘alibi’ of sorts were Precious to renege on her agreement with her Madam, Esther; the principal of the ill- famed ‘PROSTITUTION BUSINESS EMPIRE’. Principals who own and run these prostitution outlets are said to rake in as much as $30,000 (N6 million) net profit monthly. The girls are camped in various sex outlets and average hotels across the United Arab Emirates, their jobs being to trade their bodies till they can raise enough money to settle their bosses. It’s strange how much young Nigerians are willing to travel out of the country, guided by the misconception that over there the streets are paved with gold. It isn’t always what it seems to be. The grass is not always greener on the other side. Recent developments on the Precious case reveal that she completed her degree education as well as National Youth Service program in Nigeria before travelling to seek ‘greener’ pastures in far away Dubai. Therefore it brings us to these questions: Are young Nigerians forced into these acts abroad? Are they deceived into the acts prior to travelling? Are they entirely hopeless about the future back home in Nigeria? On the other hand, could it be greed that fuels the need to travel in these cases? Whatever the answer, sex slavery and human trafficking is not the answer. It is not the way. It will never be the way. Above all; whether or not Esther Nicole Otubo of the Prostitution Business Empire, nor her fellow ‘Dubai Madams’ are rounded up, and punished as they deserve, this incident will forever be a blot for years. It will always be out there for the world to see. Reacting to Precious’ humiliation; lawyer, Emeka Ugwuonye, recently spoke to Punch. He lamented the situation, and condemned the fact that young Nigerian girls were in these traps primarily because they have no one to speak for them than it is about them voluntarily entering into these illicit dealings. Ugwuonye who runs the group Due Process Advocates spoke further: ‘I have videos of two different girls recorded under the most debasing conditions, naked and scared. What Nicole does is to videotape these girls in the nude and blackmail them into prostitution in Dubai. This woman is like none that you have come across before. She is a ‘Madam’ and a human trafficker. She takes desperate young Nigerian girls on a sex slave mission to Dubai or other Middle Eastern countries for prostitution. Before they leave Nigeria, she would first make the girls and their parents swear an oath at a local shrine in the belief that such would place a curse of sudden death on those girls were they to disobey her. The total amount she plans to get from each girl is about $30,000.’ ‘The girl is to become a prostitute, make money from her ‘clients’ and keep giving such money to the woman until she agrees she has received $30,000 from the girl. This Madam uses blackmail as an additional means of enforcing her plan. She would take a video recording of each girl, who would have been made to stand stark naked. She would tell each girl that if she failed to pay her $30,000 when she gets to Dubai or elsewhere, she would release the video tape on Facebook and would delete it when she eventually gets paid. ‘These girls apparently agree to this. I use the word “apparently” on purpose to raise questions about the voluntariness of these girls’ participation in this. Ostensibly, some of these girls have not paid the Madam all the money she demanded of them. That must have been what led Madam to release that video on Facebook. I have seen videos of three girls in such humiliation. People forwarded them to me in order for me to use DPA to help track down the woman that is behind all this. ‘There are many, many Nigerian girls suffering under her control. These girls lack the ability to cry out. They are in slavery and bondage. We must set them free and we must have the ‘Madam’ arrested.’ There is also another ‘Dubai Madam’; we simply identified her as Ann in the course of our findings. ‘She has five girls under her control. Madam Ann lodges her girls in a three-star hotel while she would stay at home and offer them men in exchange for cash. After each girl must have slept with four or five men, Madam Ann would come and collect the money they would have made from them. ‘The hotels cannot be busted by the Dubai Police. These Madams change hotels like every two days to remain undetected. Any girl that stays in the hotel for more than four days would be expected to leave because of the slow sex seekers’ traffic. The hotel’s members of staff may not know what is going on. So if there are steady traffic of clients in the hotel and to a particular room, after two days, the hotel would notice and ask the girls to leave. The only things they take to the hotels are sexy lingerie to entice customers,’ Ugwuonye said. Naij.com Hom |

The birth of a child brings joy and happiness
not just to the parent but to the whole family.
A child does not partake or determine what
name he or she is to be known with or called.
This is the exclusive preserve of the parents
and family to decide. Parents give names to their new infants for many reasons. The common reason is for identify but there is more to that. Names are given to children based on circumstances surrounding the birth of the child. So, in the case of the former president Goodluck Jonathan, his first name Goodluck might have been carefully chosen for some reasons, since his parents were into canoe making. More so, they might have wanted the child to find luck and not just any kind of luck but goodluck in future. If going by his first name, Goodluck, it will be agreed that a child that did not have shoe to go the school had providence smiling on him. I brings to you the three Goodluck 1. The Mystery Around His Name The is this popular saying among Nigerians that one man’s failure is another man’s success. There are some myths surrounding the name, Goodluck. These myths date back from when he was still in secondary school. It was said that while he was in his final year, he happened to be the assistant head boy of his school. He later became the head boy at the demise of the previous head boy. Then, as the deputy governor of Bayelsa state, providence came smiling on him when his then boss, Diepreye Alamieyeseigha was impeached by the state House. In December 2005, Goodluck Jonathan was sworn in as the governor of Bayelsa state. Again, as the vice president, he was made the acting president through a motion from Nigerian Senate tagged doctrine of necessity, when the president, Yar’Adua was hospitalized in a Saudi Arabian hospital in November, 2009. At the death of late president Umaru Yar’Adua on May 5, 2010, Goodluck Jonathan became the 14th head of state of Nigeria on May 6, 2010. 2. First Elected President From South South Nigeria is divided into six political zones of North-West, North-East, North-Central, South- West, South-East and South-South for easy political administration and for power sharing. Since Nigeria’s independence in October 1,1960, not a single person from the South- South has been elected president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Even, military head of state eluded the zone during the infamous period of military rule. However, the jinx was broken by Goodluck Jonathan in 2011. Goodluck smiled on Jonathan as he won not just the keenly contested Peoples Democratic Party nomination by beating well established politicians like the former vice president Atiku Abubakar, he went on to win the poll in landline victory against his arch-rival, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari of the defunct, Congress for Progressive Change (CPC). Jonathan polled 22,495,185 (58.89%) while Buhari got 12,214,853 (31.98%). By this victory, Goodluck Jonathan became the first elected president of Nigeria from the South-South zone. There were rumours that some parents at that time named their male children ‘Goodluck’. Perhaps, they wanted providence to also smile on their children’s fortune as it did with Jonathan. 3. Good Luck Smiles On Nigeria Sport Nigerian sport men and women won more laurels in Goodluck Jonathan’s administration. The Super Eagles won Africa Cup of Nation (AFCON) in South Africa. This winning came after 19 years that the country had to wait to achieve this feat. As if that was not enough, the nation U-17 team won FIFA U-17 World Cup in United Arab Emirates. Nigeria had the best performance at the Commonwealth Games and the World Athletic Championship. Team Nigeria at 2012 summer Paralympics, where our men and women athletes did the country proud by winning 6 gold, 5 silver and 3 bronze. This is what one of Nigeria’s finest sport personalities, John Fashanu, said about Jonathan’s sport achievement: “All these happened because he was really a lucky president and most importantly, he created an enabling atmosphere for sports men and women to strive because of the way he normally appreciate them when they return [from major sport competition] .” These are just few of the good luck that shone on the country’s sport during Jonathan’s tenure. By Kehinde Ajose Music videos are mediums for artistes to showcase their looks, dance steps and tell a story of their songs. In the Nigerian music landscape, it has grown beyond that into a medium for display of gangsterism, sex and violence. Our videos have become bad deal for our impressionable youths who tend to copy most of what they see on TV and the internet. And the Nigerian cinematographers are pushing the limits and becoming more expressive in their shots. These days, caution has been thrown into the wind and their new form of entertainment is display of boobs, butt or bust cleavage, naked laps and other subtle erotic parts of the body. Studies have shown a connection between music videos and violent behavior of adolescents. The study also shows a relationship between the imagery displayed in videos and inappropriate sexual behaviours. In no particular order, we chronicle 10 Nigerian music videos that will send shock waves down your spine. Reminisce –Skilashi 2015 Just like his previous sensual video, Tesojue, Reminisce continues to push the limits as far as releasing shocking videos is concerned. The Alaga Ibile crooner makes use of vulgar lyrics and obscene images in this video. The visuals are filled with different scenes where the video vixens can be seen dancing provocatively and occasionally revealing their bums. In other words, this video falls into the category of a soft porn. Lately, Reminisce has been releasing sexually charged videos without thinking of the harmful effects it will have on the younger generation. The video is directed by Frizzle and Bizzle Films. Olamide –Falila Ketan 2015 What message can be passed in a music video where bums are being shaken in most of the scenes? This is the question that comes to mind when you watch Olamide’s Falila Ketan. All you can see in the video is skimpily dressed ladies twerking their God-given bums. It’s not the kind of video you want to watch in the presence of your children, if you don’t want to answer inquisitive questions. The video is directed by Unlimited L.A. Niyola-Love to love you – 2014 Before the video of this song was released, the beautiful RnB singer, Niyola, posted a picture from the video shoot with her upper body laid bare, covering her breasts with her arms. This generated various negative comments on the social media. Love to love you is a love song with sexual connotations, provocative dance steps and erotic steamy scenes. The video was shot in New York and shows how Niyola loves to show love to her man. The video is directed by Kemi Adetiba. Wizkid- Expensive Shit– 2015 Though this song has an amazing Afrobeat feel, it still goes on to unveil some shocking raunchy scenes and suggestive dance styles. The visuals were shot in South Africa and capture Wizkid in the midst of skimpily dressed video vixens.Towards the end of the video,Wizkid cuddles one of the video vixens, puts her in a compromising provocative posture, as though he is ready to take her to the ‘Next level’. The video is directed by Sesan. Seyi Shay-Crazy 2014 Seyi Shay’s vocal dexterity is in no doubt, but same cannot be said of this music video which has many question marks over it. The visuals have various sexual scenes blended with provocative dance steps. In a particular scene, Wizkid is spotted in a romantic position with Seyi Shay. This short scene has Seyi Shay seizing Wizzy’s crotch. In another scene, Seyi Shay can be seen twerking on Wizkid. The video is directed by Meji Alabi. Mr2kay –Bad girl special – 2015 (featuring Cynthia Morgan and Seyi Shay) Weeks before the video was officially released, the behind-the-scenes pictures were unveiled to the public. A particular steamy picture of Mr2kay and Cynthia Morgan went viral, getting everyone thinking there could be more between the duo than just music. For starters, the video begins with Cynthia Morgan seductively walking towards Mr2kay in a revealing top. In this scene, the German juice sensation shows off her curves and cleavage, affirming that she is a ‘Bad’ girl for real. Another notable part in the video is a scene where the duo are in the kitchen caressing each other with Cynthia taking a sniff of her cigarette. There was a time when Nigerian music videos had a message and brilliant concepts, it seems those days are long gone. The video is directed by Clarence Peters. Davido –Fans Mi – 2015 What comes to mind when you see guns, lots of cash on a table and ladies dressed seductively in a music video? This image portrays violence, gangsterism and sensuality. Davido’s new video depicts these negative vices in no small way. In the visuals, the young popstar tries to seal a deal to supply cocaine, while the leader of the gang hands him stacks of dollars for the business transaction. He goes back to his house where he is welcomed by scantily dressed ladies arranging the cocaine. If music videos are meant to be a vehicle to pass positive messages for the good of the coming generation, this video has done nothing but just the opposite. The video is directed by Sesan. Cynthia Morgan-German Juice 2015 The title says it all. German Juice connotes buttocks. The ladies in this video swings it from the beginning to the end. It was shot on a sunny and summer-themed location. Cynthia Morgan sings on a groovy dancehall beat while the ladies were just shaking their big bums. The video is poor in concept and lacks the needed depth that should be displayed in a music video. The video is directed by Clarence Peters and Jude Okoye. Skuki-Silifa 2014 This video is reminiscent of Timaya’s Shake your bum bum where ‘White’ video vixens were shaking their assets. Shot sometime last year, the song’s lyrics is empty and the video has no storyline. The only shocking aspect of the visuals is the brazen manner the video vixens were shaking their buttocks. Little wonder, it was tagged ‘Not suitable for work’(NSFW). Flavour-Ololufe (Featuring Chidinma) 2015 Flavour made headlines years back when he passionately kissed Tiwa Savage in the video of the song ‘Onyi remix’. It generated lots of controversy and sparked dating rumours been these two hit makers. This is 2015, and the suave singer is back to his kissing antics. This time his partner in crime is the petite Chidinma Ekile and the video is ‘Ololufe’. Since the video hit the public domain, she has been heavily condemned. Though, Chidinma has revealed that she is not dating Flavour, her fans are yet to recover from the shock of seeing her engage in such an offensive act. The video is directed by Godfather productions. May the Lord deliver us from all ds celeb. |
“I think what we are concerned about is the
process. It is no longer a military regime and
under our existing laws, everybody is innocent
until proven guilty." - Bishop Kukah This is a statement credited to the Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Dioceses, Bishop Hassan Kukah, when the Peace Committee for the 2015 general elections led by the former Head of State, General Abdulsalami Abubakar, visited President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday, August 11th. As it were, I found nothing wrong in the Peace Committee visiting the President, because any credible group is free to visit the President since the President is for everybody and for nobody in particular. What I am worried about is the timing and the motive of the visit. I am deeply worried about the purpose of this visit. Is it to shield some people from the investigations on corruption going in almost every critical sector of our economy? Is it to try to circumvent a clinical process being put in place to put things in order in Nigeria? Is it to try to slow down President Buharis’s agenda to rid Nigeria of corruption? Is it an attempt to intimidate the President to slow down and let the corrupt who pillaged and plundered our common patrimony to go scot-free? Is it blackmail to render nugatory APC’s agenda to bring the change it promised Nigerians? Are the Peace Committee members not aware of the sordid roles some members of the committee played during President Jonathan’s tenure? Why these crude interventions at a time like this? Is the Peace Committee working to protect Jonathan and his cronies and shield them from facing the jury? When has it become an offense to investigate past leaders and bring them to book if necessary? What is the meaning of this dangerous mediation at a time like this? A friend tells me that the rampancy of corruption in Nigeria is a function of low Intelligent Quotient (IQ) on the part of all of us. Can the members of the Peace Committee be exonerated? Please listen to Bishop Kukah’s second sentence: “Again, our commitment is not to intimidate or fight anybody, the former President’s commitment and what he did still remains spectacular and I think that President Buhari himself appreciates that. So our effort really is to make sure that the right thing is done.” Now, what is this spectacular thing that the former President Jonathan did? To preside over a corrupt empire never known in the history of Nigeria, to decimate and desecrate the political decision to rotate power between the North and South and consequently put the nation in danger, to accept that he blew billions of dollars and pounds in an election he was bound to lose because the figures were not in his favor. He did something spectacular by accepting defeat in an election he lost fair and square? He did something spectacular by allowing every Tom, Dick, and Harry including his wife to declare war on our national till? Let the truth be told: former President Jonathan was defeated black and blue, left and right, front and back, and up and down. Eleven small states in the South-South and South-East would not have defeated Twenty-Five States from the South-West, North-West, North-East, and North- Central. There was no way two small zones would have defeated four big zones in that crucial elections. Therefore there was nothing spectacular about accepting defeat. He had no choice that to hand over and bow out. He could not have contested elections in 2011. He could not have contested again in 2015. Former president Jonathan’s ambition to rule Nigeria for 10 years plus OBJ’s 8 years put Nigeria in great danger. In fact it put a knife on things that have held us together. It divided the country, and it was a threat to national unity. It is therefore worrisome and unacceptable for the members of the Peace Committee to try to blackmail and intimidate APC and President Buhari in their strong desire and determination to fulfill what the party promised Nigerians. APC promised Nigerians to fight corruption, impunity, and lawlessness. APC promised to restore sanity and progress in the land. APC promised to do things differently and change the way we think, the way we reason, the way we act, the way we plan, and the way we work. APC promised to plug all the loopholes and stop all the leakages within the system. APC promised to stop the oil thieves and chase the saboteurs away from the power sector and NNPC. APC cannot achieve all this without the required political will, courage and strong leadership. The task of rebuilding and repositioning Nigeria is a task that must be done and the president must be encouraged to go the whole hog. Have we suddenly forgotten what President Buhari went through in the cause of the campaign? Have we forgotten all the hate campaigns against candidate Buhari? Have we forgotten the certificate issue, his health issue, and his age issue? What did the Peace Committee do? They said Buhari would not rule Nigeria. They said he is brain dead. They said he has no certificate. They said he is not electable. They said he would die in office. They abused his family. They said APC would not survive till October 2014. They said Nigeria would be set on fire if Jonathan loses. Now that God has made Buhari president, please let us allow him to work. There are some faces I saw in the Peace Committee that send strong signals to me that it is former President Jonathan’s show. An evil spirit visited the house in the night and the child died in the morning. We know better. President Buhari should be allowed to do the work God wants him to do. God brought this President in the saddle to do what he is doing now. They did everything humanly possible to stop him but he defeated them all. I know that the election losers are still very angry, and are yet to come to terms on what hit them, but the mission was accomplished. I am told that old ways will not open new doors. PDP posed an existential threat to Nigeria while the bazaar lasted. Now we have a new order. This is a new Nigeria. Please allow President Buhari to fight corruption and restore sanity in the land. |
The blamer to me is the most annoying stuff....while casting blame after the show we both enjoy that most time they ar the one that initiate it. Its just annoying. |

Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas – Chief of
Naval Staff and Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar
– Chief of Air Staff.
The Commander-in-Chief, who noted that the
officers were qualified for the appointments,
urged them to end Boko Haram’s terrorism in
three months.
He said: “Rightly, the armed forces have been
in the vanguard of the fight against terrorism.
While commending the efforts of the armed
forces so far, you need to brace and continue
to team up with other stakeholders to come
up with a well coordinated joint effort, which
will bring a desired end to this insurgency
within three months.
“In the course of carrying out this assignment,
you must be accountable for all men and
equipment placed under your command. Your
troops’
welfare must be uppermost in your mind. Take
care of them and make available what is due
to them.
“Concerted efforts should also be made to
make judicious use of resources that are
available to you in search for solution to these
challenges.
“On our own part, we shall be ready to give
you the needed resources to achieve this feat.
You will recall I have been to several countries
with the sole aim of canvassing for global
support to eliminate terrorism from Nigeria.
“These efforts, which include establishment of
the Multinational Joint Task Force, should be
complemented by you . You should therefore
re-professionalise your force and give your
troops creditable training so that they can
perform their job creditably
“You should also ensure that they abide with
the newly enforced rules and regulations of
international standards while carrying out their
assigned tasks. In particular you must protect
innocent civilians ….and respect the rights of
combatant ….”
This, Buhari said, will earn the support of local
communities, respect of allies and support of
international community.
He went on: “Therefore, I have no doubt in my
mind that all of you are equal to the task
ahead of you. You must acquaint yourselves
and justify the honour done to you.”
The President recalled that the activities of
misguided groups and individuals have
resulted in wanton destruction of lives and
properties of Nigerians and disruption of social
economic lives of millions of Nigerians.”
On behalf of the Service chiefs, the Chief of
Defence Staff said they would not let down the
nation just as he asked for the cooperation of
all to defeat the sect.
Speaking with State House correspondents at
the end of the ceremony, Gen. Olonishakin
said: “We are already strategising on how to
handle most of the challenges since we were
appointed.
“And all these strategies we are beginning to
put them in place, so we’ll just put in more
efforts to ensure that we achieve the desire of
the President.”
On if three months was enough to crush Boko
Haram, Gen. Olonishakin said: “The President
has given a presidential directive.” |

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has
warned against attempts to truncate the fight
against corruption under any guise, while also
expressing support for President Muhammadu
Buhari’s determination to end corruption.
In a statement in Lagos yesterday by its
National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai
Mohammed, the party appealed to Nigerians,
especially opinion leaders, to ensure that their
actions and utterances do not give comfort to
those who have looted the commonwealth.
‘’Our party promised Nigerians change, but the
change we promised and which Nigerians
desire so much cannot be achieved if we allow
the resources that belong to Nigerians to be
appropriated by a few. How do we upgrade
our decayed infrastructure and provide jobs for
our people when the money meant for that has
been squirelled away by a few?
‘’President Buhari has promised to break the
vicious cycle of corruption that has held
Nigeria down. How can he do that if he allows
those who have looted the treasury to escape
justice, and then use their ill-gotten wealth to
fight the government? How can he do that if
he turns a blind eye to the monumental
corruption in all sectors.
‘’We know that fighting corruption in a society
where the cankerworm has eaten deep into its
fabric will not be easy. We know that
corruption will always fight back. But there is
no other choice than to confront and destroy
this monster once and for all, lest it destroys
Nigeria,’’ it said.
APC said the President’s sincerity of purpose
could be seen from his statement that any of
his party members, who is found to be
corrupt, would not escape justice.
‘’Therefore, those who are shouting
themselves hoarse by saying the Buhari
Administration’s fight against corruption is
selective or is a distraction are only seeking to
sabotage the epic battle.
‘’If they have any case of corruption against
any member of the APC, they should forward
their evidence to the appropriate anti-
corruption agency. But to take to the airwaves
and the pages of newspaper to use their paid
agents to launch a campaign against the anti-
graft fight is to fight against the existence and
survival of Nigeria.
‘’The danger in truncating the fight against
corruption is that it will consign Nigeria to
poverty, insecurity and unemployment in
perpetuity. That is why we are restating our
unalloyed support for the President, and urging
him not to be deterred or distracted by those
hiding under sophistry to weaken the fight,’’
the party said.
It said those who are engaging in nitpicking
on the anti-corruption fight are simply
implementing a well-oiled plan to make
enough noise by accusing the Buhari
administration of being selective, and hope to
create enough confusion and distraction to
hoodwink unsuspecting Nigerians.
‘’We are glad that many Nigerians have lent
their support to the government’s fight against
corruption, going by their interventions on the
social media, which has now become a
people’s parliament of sorts, and other fora.
We urge them not to relent in their support,
irrespective of the antics of the naysayers,’’

Lagos is a fascinating place but every Lagosianhttps://www.naij.com/516397-top-10-slangs-used-lagos-can-save-life.html Please feel free to add urs... |
The mantra that the ‘Police is your friend’ is a
popular, yet meaningless inscription you find in
almost all police stations in Lagos. It is Only a
JJC that will believe it. In fact, the sight of a
person in uniform brings goose pimples to some
Lagosians. Lagosians hate the police for many
reasons but here are 5 reason Lagosians don’t
consider the police as their friend. 1. Bribery and Extortion. Bribery is no doubt the biggest reason the police in Lagos is hated and has lost all sense of respect. Every police officer is viewed as a potential bribe collector. Some people with the means even break the law knowing that they can pay their way through. Lagosians feel that the toughest of police can be broken down by offering him a few Naira notes. This has made the police lose all sense of respect among the citizens. 2.Response 911 is the first thing that probably comes to the mind of any American in time of distress. Some Lagosians feel that the police never respond on time but only come after the storm has cleared. In a robbery situation for example, there is the popular belief that the police will claim they have no fuel but will come after the robbers have gone hours later blowing their sirens! 3. Crime The police is supposed to fight crime but some Lagosians feel police officers sometimes perpetuate crime. Some Lagosians feel the police support criminals with guns to commit crime and this has left a bad taste in the mouth of a lot of people. Whether this is true or not cannot be confirmed that it has been alluded to many times that a lot of people believe it. 4. Ill-Trained Officers Some Lagosians believe a lot of police officers are not well trained and therefore cannot trust them to handle situations. Some people suggest that the lack of professionalism in the police force is because a lot of renegade officers joined the force due to unemployment. People would rather handle situation themselves rather than involve the police. 5. Trust Trust, they say, is earned and not forced upon. A lot of Lagosians don’t trust the police at all and this is due to experiences they have had with the police in the past. These incidents have shaped the way people perceive the police making it difficult to believe any reformation is possible.in fact, some parents advise their children not to join the police force as it is the worst profession. Conclusion The place of the police in a society is to serve and protect and the police in Lagos need to show the people that they are capable of doing this. The police must display a sense of willingness to work and shun corruption so that the dark cloud hovering over the image of the police will be removed and they can earn the applause and respect of the people |
