Though we arent meant to be cracking jokes with issues that are claiming lives, I gotta say this was funny.

However AIDS has caused about 35million deaths since its discovery in 1981 in the United States.

While Ebola was discovered earlier (1976), it has only killed less than 5, 000 people

HIV is a global pandemic, as it has been reported in virtually all the countries however Ebola has only been reported in a handful of countries about 12

HealthRe: Why Does U.S. CDC Own A Patent On Ebola ‘invention?’ Ebola Man Made? by sofadj(m):
This post is full of paranoia.
Let us repent of the sensationalism, "blameshooting" for a moment and channel that same time and energy towards finding solutions to our problems then, we would be better-of as a nation and as a continent.

Growing up, I have always heard of Ebola as a deadly disease discovered in Africa, most Africans have already been sensitized to the great outbreaks that occurred in the late 1970s (Including of course our leaders).and how it left many deaths in its wake.

Isn't it disgraceful that despite this, no substantial organized effort has been made by any African Government to prevent another scourge even till 35yrs after.

Meanwhile U.S.A. who perhaps have never recorded a case of Ebola virus before already have measures to extract their citizens swiftly without posing risks to other citizens and also have pumped some money into the research of a drug for a disease they have never heard.

In my opinion, that is a forward thinking society with foresights

You may be surprised to know that malaria kills 1 million people worldwide daily with 90% of those deaths in SubSaharan Africa ( that is to say that every 30seconds someone dies of malaria) yet the best malaria research laboratories are in Europe.

Instead of always crying fouls and claiming to be victims of conspiracies, we need to fight for ourselves, or at least place ourselves in ascendancy so that we can begin to be taking serious.

HealthObama: Too Early To Send Ebola Drug To Africa by sofadj(op): 3:32am On Aug 07, 2014
Washington (AFP) - US President Barack Obama said Wednesday it is "premature" to send experimental drugs for the treatment of Ebola to West Africa, which has been hardest hit by the deadly outbreak.

Obama said affected countries should focus on building a "strong public infrastructure," adding: "I think we have to let the science guide us... I don't think all the information is in on whether this drug is helpful."

He emphasized that Ebola, a hemorrhagic virus that kills more than half of those infected, "is not an airborne disease.

"This is one that can be controlled and contained very effectively if we use the right protocols."

But he said: "the countries affected are the first to admit that what's happened here is the public health systems have been overwhelmed. They weren't able to identify and then isolate cases quickly enough."

"As a consequence, it spread more rapidly than has been typical with the periodic Ebola outbreaks that occurred previously," he added.

He said the United States is working with European partners and the World Health Organization to provide resources to help contain the epidemic.

"We're focusing on the public health approach right now, because we know how to do that, but I will continue to seek information about what we're learning with respect to these drugs going forward."

A total of 932 people have died since March in Sierra Leone, Guinea, Liberia and Nigeria, with 1,711 confirmed cases since the beginning of the year.

Ebola is spread through direct contact with the bodily fluids of an infected person.

Symptoms include fever, muscle aches, red eyes, diarrhea, vomiting and bleeding

HealthWhy Do My Breasts Feel Swollen And Bigger Before My Period? by sofadj(op): 2:42am On Aug 07, 2014
Nearly every woman experiences soreness and swelling of their breasts before menstrual flow to some degree. While in some women it may be mild, in others it may be significant enough to limit their effective function.

Few days before your menstrual flow your breast tissue may have a dense, rough feeling to the fingers when touched especially in the outer margin and the pain may increase when touched. There may be a feeling of fullness of the breast with pain.

While there are many possible causes for this pre-menstrual breast tenderness, it is usually normal in most women, however this is not to say it can not be controlled.

Premenstrual swelling and tenderness of the breasts is commonly associated with Pre-Menstrual Syndrome and Fibrocysytic breast disease.

HealthRe: Are You Asthmatic? These Are Ways To Control The Ailment By Avoiding Attacks. by sofadj(op): 3:57pm On Jul 23, 2014
With good management and compliance asthmatics can live good quality lives

HealthAre You Asthmatic? These Are Ways To Control The Ailment By Avoiding Attacks. by sofadj(op): 3:53pm On Jul 23, 2014
Asthma is a chronic (lasting for a long period) disease of the airway .

The airway is the path through which air flows in and out of the lungs (the major respiratory organ)

A person suffering from this condition is known as an Asthmatic.

Asthma is characterized by recurrent attacks of difficulty in breathing and abnormal/noisy breathing which vary in severity and frequency from person to person.

SYMPTOMS

1. Wheezing : abnormal sound produced while breathing

2. Chest Tightness

3. Breathing Difficulty / Shortness of breath

4. Cough

Symptoms may occur several times a day/week and often at night.

The airway is hyper-responsive in ASTHMATIC persons, thus there is a more aggressive response to minimal quantity of irritants which would normally not cause a response in a NON-ASTHMATIC.

Things that make allergies or asthma worse are known as triggers

Triggers

Tobacco Smoke
Chemical irritants in workplace, strong odours
Indoor allergens (house dust mites in beddings, carpets, stuffed furniture)
Air pollution
Respiratory infections

Other triggers include:

Cold air
Physical stress(exercise)
Emotional stress (fear, anger)
Drugs such as Aspirin, Propanolol

Treatment

Asthma has no known cure.

However appropriate management can enable an Asthmatic to live a good quality life.

Management involves

Use of Short term acting drugs to relieve symptoms

Use of Long term acting drugs to prevent attack

Careful lifestyle modifications to prevent exposure to triggers

Indoor triggers

House dust mites are very tiny insects that can’t be seen with the naked eye. They are very common as triggers for asthma. Mostly found in beddings, mattresses, clothings and fabrics.

Tiny molds, pollens and detergents are also common triggers.

To limit exposure to indoor triggers,

Get rid of fabric furniture and replace with Wood, Leather or Vinyl
Avoid sleeping on cushions and cloth-covered furniture
Wrap mattresses with mite-proof covers
Wash beddings and pillows frequently in hot water
Keep indoor air dry ( Dehumidifier)
Use a central Air Conditioner/Heater to control air
Protect airway with a mask when cleaning house
Wipe dust using a damp duster

OTHERS

Avoid Physical stress
Avoid cold air
Avoid using products with strong odors

Follow your Physician’s guide and treatment plan.

Reasons for the Test

It is the cornerstone for evaluation of male infertility. About 50% of infertile couples have male infertility problem.

It is also done following Vasectomy, success of which is confirmed in the absence of sperm in the semen

OR 50million – 60 million sperm per ejaculate
Motility and Morphology - Greater than 60% sperm cells having normal movement and morphology

HealthSeminal Fluid Analysis; A Common Test For Male Infertility by sofadj(op): 12:04pm On Jul 23, 2014
Semen(a.k.a. Seminal Fluid) is the thick white fluid released from a male organ during ejaculation. It contains sperm.
Seminal fluid analysis is one of the most important tests carried out to evaluate male fertility and should be done early. Sometimes this test is known as SPERM COUNT OR MALE FERTILITY TEST

It measures the amount and quality of the spermatozoa present in a man’s semen.
2-3 tests should be done at least 1 month interval before a conclusion could be reached as to the normality of the test especially if a subnormal result was obtained.

Collecting the Sample

The semen sample is normally obtained after 3-5 days of abstinence.
◾Sample can be collected by masturbation into a clean, dry, sterile container OR
