Introduction
Also known as LEIOMYOMA
These are outgrowths from the human uterus (womb). They are non-cancerous and are the commonest outgrowths from the human uterus.
They are present in about 20%-40% of women of reproductive age group (18-47).

They are usually multiple outgrowths , however they can be single.

Symptoms
The symptoms present in a woman with fibroid varies depending on the size and location of the growth. It can present in one or more of the following ways:

1. Symptomless: majority of cases of Fibroid are present with no symptom and thus many cases are detected accidentally on routine examination or investigation for other things e.g. Infertility.

2. Heavy Menstrual Flow: there may be prolonged flow of menstrual blood. E.g greater than

3.Crampy abdominal pain

Less commonly could present as

4. Pain on passing urine

5. Impossible sexual intercourse due to pain

6. Recurrent miscarriages or subfertility. Due to occlusion of space in the womb, fibroid can cause recurrent miscarriages.

7. Constipation


Causes of Fibroid
The exact cause of fibroid is not clearly understood however some factors have been well established to be linked with the development of fibroid

1. Black race: it is more common in. women of the black race
2. Early onset of Menstruation i.e. A woman whose menstruation commences before the age of 12
3. Late age at Conception i.e. A woman who has never been pregnant at a late age. (2 full term pregnancies reduce the risk of having fibroid)
4. Obesity; a woman whose Body Mass Index is greater or equal to 30kg/m2
5. Diabetes
6. Hypertension
7. Genetics

The growth of fibroid is dependent on body hormones; estrogen and progesterone. Therefore it is normal for a woman's fibroid to shrink as she approaches menopause.

What to do.
Most fibroids do not need treatment as they do not cause any symptoms however,an action becomes needed whenever there's a symptom. If you notice any of the symptoms stated above, you need to see a gynaecologist.


What your doctor will do.
The doctor will examine you and may request that you do one or more of the following investigations.
Ultrasound,
Magnetic Resonance Imaging,
Hysteroscopy
Hysterosalpingography (HSG)
E.t.c.



Management/Treatment Procedures
This depends on the findings,your choice, and your general health condition, therefore it is individualised.

May do nothing (watchful waiting)
Drug treatment
Surgery
Treatment using Oral Contraceptive
Pain relievers
E.t.c.

I have some form of respect for Mr Seun as a businessman.
An issue like this shows the thin line of separation that exists between being a good leader and being a good businessman.

He is well aware like most people are saying here that religion is a sensitive issue, he is also aware that given similar conditions of insults and intolerance, of all the religions, Islam is the the religion with followers that are most likely to spark first. He knows the various comments on nairaland containing insults against religions are partly what makes the site fun and unique and subsequently rakes in money.

He has only tried to balance it by removing insults to Islam which he knows could spell trouble but tolerating insults to other religion which is relatively harmless.
He knows he can't generally apply the rule as this will make the site too rigid, boring and so he will lose patronage.


He knows its unfair as he has honestly agreed but as a businessman he is greedy enough to know that Christians will only rant and rant but will not pose any threat and will not boycott the site as well and infact their rants will only make the site more fun.
Funny someone even opened a twitter handle to canvass people to boycott nairaland, this will only make the site more popular and rake in more for Seun.

He obviously has chosen to strike the rule off for now, but in the future I'm sure another action will be taken in a bid to reduce the insults against islam.

Hello OP, I must say I disagree with most of all you've said. Constipation is not the cause of all the problems in the body. Constipation is actually in the alimentary tract which is not connected with the respiratory system and will not cause pneumonia or asthma as you have said. These things you have stated are not orthodox teachings of medicine, so I'm sure you are not a doctor. Please state below your post that you are giving alternative medicine or traditional medicine so people are not misled. Thank you.

actually guys, this is the moment we have to stop acting like Africans, let's stop all these " what has happened has happened" the truth is whenever someone dies of sudden death, there is usually a genetic risk and a predisposition in her family. If she died of Stroke for example, her parents and siblings really have to be monitored for similar occult problems. Even we can learn more about our health issues from her case. Yes she has died and its so painful, but we must always try to make a positive out of every situation, let the cause of her demise be a source of knowledge for others to better understand our health conditions so this singular incident can help prevent many more. So I say " let the full autopsy be done"

I've been using my BB for 3yrs now and I'm not ready to change to another phone. I am a person dat needs to be abreast of information and I don't have the time to sit in front of any news network, it gives me relatively cheap all around d clock internet access. Everyone in my family has got a BB including my parents and @least 50percent of my frie so it eases and cheapens my communication. I'm not an application freak and even if I were I wnt have the tym to make use of these applications that you guys talk about. Guys are just jumping into conclusions here, sudden death can be from, stroke, myocardial infarction, pulmonary embolism. Stroke and Pulmonary embolism could be from blood clots however its quite uncommon in young pple except in people who already have the tendency. In her case u need to know her previous medical history to have an idea of what caused her death...she could have had a diseased heart valve, or hole in the heart, she could be asthmatic, she could be a sickle cell disease person. In summary you can't just jump into conclusion from d little knowledge u have of her medical history. Let autopsy report show the true cause.
