Politics / Fayemi Cautions The Nation Newspaper And Ojudu Over "Misleading Publication" by sojiboy(m): 8:40pm On Jun 24, 2020
PRESS RELEASE

OF  EX-SENATOR OJUDU AND NATION NEWSPAPER’S MISLEADING STORY

The attention of the general public is being drawn to a misleading publication by the Nation Newspapers online with headline “Fayemi’s failed mission to Villa with Giadom”, published in the online edition of the Nation Newspaper on Wednesday, June 24th, 2020.

The falsehood, we gathered reliably, was fabricated by a senior aide of the Presidency and a former Senator, Babafemi Ojudu, and planted in The Nation Newspaper, after it was rejected by some State House Correspondents, who rebuffed the former Senator for the misleading and malicious story.

It is on record that Senator Ojudu, in his desperate bid to rubbish Governor Fayemi, had told his close associates that he would battle Governor Fayemi, who is also the Chairman of the Nigerian Governors’ Forum (NGF) with falsehood and cheap blackmail in his nefarious attempt to destabilize APC in Ekiti State.

While Ojudu has the right to continue to tread the path of perfidy which has been his lifestyle from time immemorial, we least expected the Nation Newspaper, a leading national daily whose motto is “Truth in Defence of Freedom” to buy into such cheap blackmail in form of an unverifiable report, without due regard to the principles of fairness. This is more so that modern technology has made the business of news gathering and editorial checks a lot easier, especially if the mission is about public good.

For the purpose of clarity, it is important to state that the Nation’s report was clearly a misleading one designed to cast aspersion on the person of Governor Fayemi and create an impression that the NGF Chairman is an unwanted visitor at the Villa. The largely unsubstantiated report was filled with bile, childish and unexplainable fury that signified nothing, just like a tale fit only for the tabloids.

We therefore implore the general public to disregard the highly illogical concoction that was served as an exclusive story.

In setting the record straight, we hereby state unequivocally that Governor Fayemi had no plan nor reason to see Mr President on Tuesday late afternoon as maliciously presented in the Nation’s report. The Governor, had earlier seen Mr President at noon in company of three of his colleagues - Governor Abubakar Atiku Bagudu (Kebbi), Governor Simon Lalong (Plateau) and Governor Badaru Abubakar (Jigawa). Also present at that meeting were the Chief of Staff to the President, Prof Ibrahim Gambari and Honourable Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami.

Governor Fayemi was in the villa later in the afternoon to see the COS and State Chief of Protocol (SCOP).

The Ekiti State Governor was never denied any opportunity to see President Buhari as he did not ask to see the President and neither did he go with Chief Giadom.

We are aware of surreptitious efforts to demonise and blackmail Governor Fayemi on account of the challenges the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) is undergoing.
We have tried not to join issues with the barrage of falsehood, personality attacks and campaign of calumny against Governor Fayemi on social media in the last two weeks because it is not in Dr Fayemi’s character to engage in unintelligent rabblerousing in the media. As a principled democrat, Dr Fayemi is committed to fighting for the principles of democracy within the political party he laboured with other notable Nigerians to birth. It is normal for political leaders to be in disagreement, but it should not lead to campaigns of calumny based on falsehood.

Governor Fayemi’s position on the APC crisis has been to consistently subsume his views in the position of the Progressives Governors Forum as expressed by the Chairman. He has not spoken on the party crisis in any public forum but continue to urge all members and lovers of the party to exercise restraint and support the leader of the party, President Mohammadu Buhari and other leaders desirous of resolution to give peace a chance.

We implore the Nation Newspaper and other media organisations to be wary of unfounded stories wrapped as “exclusives” by disgruntled elements like the Special Adviser to the President on Political Matters, Mr. Babafemi Ojudu who are now masquerading as news sources.

Signed
Yinka Oyebode
Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Ekiti State

Agriculture / Ekiti State Attracts $50 Million Agriculture Investments by sojiboy(m): 9:23am On Jun 10, 2020
Ekiti State Attracts $50 million Agriculture Investments

The Ekiti State Government’s drive to attract investment to the State has started to yield results, especially in agriculture, where various investors have finalized plans to site their production facilities in the State.

The State recently issued a Certificate of Occupancy (C of O) to Stallion Group for a $10 million rice mill in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital, while Dangote Group is also finalizing plans to locate a $5 million mill within the same location, which is now being seen as the rice processing hub of the State.

In the cassava value chain, FMS Farms is finalizing plans to set up a $10 million starch processing plant and farm in Ikole LGA, and has already commenced farming activities. In addition, Promise Point has also invested $15 million in its starch processing facility, within the same area, which has also been designated as part of the Special Agro-Industrial Processing Zone.
This is coming after the $5 million investment by Promasidor to renovate and operate the moribund Ikun Dairy Farm, and another $5 million investment by JMK Foods to build a rice mill in Ekiti State.

According to the Special Adviser to the Governor on Investment, Trade and Innovations, Mr. Akintunde Oyebode, the investments attracted to Ekiti are early results of the Government’s focus on building an enabling environment for business to thrive.

Oyebode said many of these investors only have to deal with the Ekiti State Development and Investment Promotion Agency (EKDIPA) to process their land titles and other requests. “By being responsive to their needs, and carrying out constant aftercare services even when they’re fully established, we are showing other investors that Ekiti is the place to be.”

He stated that the State is developing two special economic zones for Agro-Industrial activities and the knowledge economy, adding “apart from those investors who have already chosen Ekiti as a location to do business, we are seeing a lot of interest in the state.”

Oyebode said: “The recent reduction in Right of Way charges for telecommunication infrastructure was done to complement the planned Knowledge Zone; and to demonstrate a commitment to the digital economy.

“The Knowledge Zone will be anchored around talent produced by universities in Ekiti and its neighbouring states; a well planned mini city with residential housing and offices; and reliable infrastructure, especially power and broadband.

"The zone, when completed will be Nigeria’s first service based economic zone, attracting services like business process outsourcing, back office operations, data labelling, software development/engineering and startups focused on critical sectors like healthcare, education, agriculture and consumer markets.

“The Agro Industrial Processing Zone will include access roads to farms, irrigation systems to ensure all season farming, storage infrastructure to reduce post harvest losses, and independent power to enable processors optimise their output.

"Even in the early stages of the zone’s establishment, the State Government is in serious discussions with at least five large-scale processors keen to operate within the Zone.

“To ensure the gains of the current administration are institutionalized, the State’s Public-Private Partnership Law has been updated and is being reviewed by the House of Assembly, while a Mortgage and Foreclosure Bill have also been sent to the state House of Assembly for consideration.

“When both bills are passed into law, Ekiti will have best in class laws to protect private investments, and the legal framework to support the long overdue mortgage activity in the State.

“The Government is also embarking on a comprehensive Ease of Doing Business reform programme that seeks to ensure Ekiti is a top-5 state to do business by 2021.” Oyebode added.

Politics / Bisi Fayemi Celebrates Her 57th Birthday by sojiboy(m): 9:06am On Jun 08, 2020
Orchids for Erelu Bisi Fayemi at 57

By Segun Dipe

For the bold, brilliant and beautiful fashionista Erelu Bisi Adeleye-Fayemi, every June 11 is her day of celebration, for that is the day she was born. As she clocks 57 this year, and amidst the Covid-19 hoopla that has rendered the whole world socially isolated, the music she should listen to is “Groove Is in the Heart,” a song by the American dance band Deee-Lite. It was released in August 1990 as the lead single from their debut album, World Clique.

Yes, Erelu, as fondly called by folk, friends and admirers alike, deserves to be celebrated this year as always. She is grooving through life in diverse ways and phases. She has conquered her environment, yet remains humble. Covid-19 or no Covid-19, social distancing or no social distancing, this intellectually balanced lady has roundly paid her dues. She is well groomed, socially on point, spiritually upright and politically key.

Bisi Adeleye-Fayemi was born in Liverpool, England, on 11 June, 1963. She received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in history from the University of Ife, now the Obafemi Awolowo University, Nigeria. She also received an MA in Gender and Society (1992) from Middlesex University, UK. Bisi Fayemi is the First Lady of Ekiti State Nigeria as wife of the Ekiti State Governor 2018-2022. She was also previously Ekiti State First Lady in 2010-2014. In 2001, she co-founded the African Women’s Development Fund (AWDF), the first Pan-African grant-making organisation. She served as a UN Women Nigeria Senior Advisor, and was appointed as a Visiting Senior Research Fellow at King’s College, University of London in 2017-2018. She is CEO, Above Whispers Limited, and runs an online community called Abovewhispers.com.

Leymah Gbowee of Liberia, 2011 Nobel Peace Prize winner, delivered Bisi Fayemi’s 50th birthday lecture in 2013 titled “Leading the Change: The Journey of an African Woman.” She has this to say to her: “…Bisi, you have helped us to achieve change. You have used your position to sew dreams and show that change is possible and helped to set our minds to it. That I won the Nobel prize is because of people like you. That day, you didn’t see me. You saw a sister. Today we say, ‘Thank you’. You have helped to set our minds to it.”

So, our celebrant is globally acclaimed. She is an elite and a sophisticated one for that matter. Yet she is not comfortable with just sitting in such a comfort zone while watching others suffer. She doesn’t believe in the “we-versus-them” style of living. She has activism running in her blood and has earned global acclaims in that area. Recently, Bisi Fayemi was listed among the 100 leading women in Africa for her numerous contributions to feminism.

Prior to that, she had bagged various awards and recognitions such as the “Changing the Face of Philanthropy” award by the Women’s Funding Network in 2007. She was named one of the 20 most influential African women in 2009 by New African magazine. In 2011, _Women Deliver_ listed her as one of the top 100 people in the world, advancing the rights of women and girls. In 2019, she was awarded the 2018 Zik Leadership Prize for humanitarian Leadership by Public Policy Research and Analysis Centre (PPRAC).

So how do we celebrate such a heroine without having to break the banks? How do we make her know that her achievements and her influence on all of us without any stratification count? And to think we are forbidden from gathering in our thousands to groove the groove with our grand celebrant?

We must therefore come up with diverse ways to sing her praises, we must shower her with gifts of different kinds, shapes and sizes, we must gather through all sorts of social media makeshifts with a bid to literarily raise the roof and proclaim all she stands for to the world. We must sing, dance and pray. But, in all of these, some will still not resist that urge to want to see, feel and hug her.

Erelu is not just any soul. She is an exceptional soul, gifted with different kinds of leadership virtues in every area she has forayed. As the First Lady of Ekiti State, one may liken her to some of the First Ladies who have impacted their societies in no small measure. And I dare to mention the following FLOTUS.

Bisi Fayemi can be likened to Hillary Clinton, wife of William Jefferson Clinton, the 42nd President of the United States from 1993 to 2001. Hillary is the first First Lady to hold a postgraduate degree and a full-time professional career before becoming First Lady. She was one of her husband’s most trusted advisers in both the White House and on the campaign trail. She held offices in the East Wing and the West Wing. After her husband’s presidency, she became the first First Lady to hold public office when she was elected senator of New York. She later became Secretary of State under President Barack Obama and has run for the post of president twice. She was the first female presidential candidate nominated by a major party.

Bisi Fayemi can be likened to Eleanor Roosevelt, an inspirational first lady, who drastically changed the role of First Lady, travelling often and making many public appearances and speeches about children’s causes and human rights. Eleanor consistently spoke out against racism and sexism, she focused on helping the country’s impoverished people. Eleanor Roosevelt later became chair of the U.N.’s Human Rights Commission and helped write the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. She was assigned to the U.N. by President John F. Kennedy and was appointed to the National Advisory Committee of the Peace Corps and the chair of the President’s Commission on the Status of Women.

Bisi Fayemi can be likened to Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, wife of President John F. Kennedy. Jackie O, as fondly called, stands as the most beloved first lady in U.S. history. Not only were her style and grace admired, but she had incredible drive in her role in the White House. Onassis transformed the White House into a museum of American history and culture that would inspire patriotism and public service in those who visited. She was also a patron of the arts and frequent traveler with her husband, which earned her admiration from Americans and foreign citizens alike.

Bisi Fayemi can be likened to Michelle Obama, who served as FLOTUS alongside her husband, President Barack Obama, from 2009 to 2017. She was one of the most involved and passionate first ladies America has ever seen. Her drive to make a difference was unforgettable — and she had fun doing it. Some of her most significant accomplishments include founding Let’s Move! to combat childhood obesity, creating the Reach Higher Initiative to “[expose] students to college and career opportunities,” and empowering young women to get an education with Let Girls Learn.

Bisi Fayemi can be likened to Edith Roosevelt, a down-to-earth first lady who served as first lady from 1901 to 1909 as the wife of Theodore Roosevelt. Theodore was a seriously dedicated first lady, and she received love from many Americans. In addition to totally revamping the White House, she showed a true interest in helping those in need. According to the National First Ladies’ Library, “Her secretary recalled that the First Lady most frequently sent large gifts of cash to various free hospitals that treated the poor, instructing physicians to hand out cash sums to those being discharged.”

Bisi Fayemi can be likened to Rosalynn Carter, wife of the 39th president of the United States, Jimmy Carter. She took her duties as first lady seriously from 1977 to 1981, leading Americans to admire her hard work. She was an advocate for the cause of mental health, pushed for support of the Equal Rights Amendment, and was supportive of the arts — to name a few areas of her passionate work. Carter once referred to his wife as “an equal extension” of himself.

It is for these invaluable contributions that she deserves a unique, rare, yet much prized gift this year: Please let’s go out and gather orchids. Orchids don’t come easy. They are the most highly coveted of ornamental plants. Delicate, exotic and graceful, orchid represents love, luxury, beauty and strength. In the ancient Greece, orchids were associated with virility. During the Victorian era, orchid symbolism shifted to luxury, and today this sense of magnificence and artful splendor continues, with orchids representing rare and delicate beauty.

Orchids generally symbolize love and beauty. But in different colours, they also depict various qualities. Blue orchids represent rarity. Bisi Fayemi is a rare gem. Red orchids symbolize passion and desire, but can also symbolize strength and courage. Bisi Fayemi is a go-getter any day. Pink orchids symbolize grace, joy and happiness and can also symbolize innocence and femininity. Bisi Fayemi is ever joyful and ever happy. Proudly a feminist. White orchids represent reverence and humility, innocence and purity, and elegance and beauty. Bisi Fayemi is beautiful, both inside and outside. Her elegance is without parity.

Purple orchids symbolize admiration, respect, dignity and royalty. Bisi Fayemi, despite her acclaims, is humble and does everything with dignity. Yellow orchids represent friendship, joy and new beginnings. Bisi Fayemi makes friends with ease and is never afraid of a new beginning. Orange orchids symbolize enthusiasm, boldness and pride. Bisi Fayemi is not only beautiful, she is bold, enthusiastic and proudly a traditional person. Green orchids are thought to bring good fortune and blessings. They represent good health, nature and longevity. Bisi Fayemi’s naturalness is not doubtful. Her state of health is balanced and not only is her future guratenteed, she will certainly live long.

Happy Birthday to our own Erelu of Isan Kingdom, Ochiora of Imezi Owa, Enugu State, Yeye Ajiseye of Ado Ekiti, Iyalode of Ilafon Ekiti and Oluomo of Ilaramokin. Higher heights still.

Segun Dipe is the Senior Special Assistant to Gov. Fayemi on Public Communications.

*ARC. WALE AJAYI SUPPORTS JKF IN REACHING MORE LESS PRIVILEDGE PEOPLE AT GRASSROOTS*

True greatness is measured by the number of lives you can affect or elevate during tough and trying time like this...

Realistic, Arc. Wale Ajayi would have preferred that we are silent about this show of kindness and humanity during this lockdown period; honestly, Wale Ajayi is so different among his peers. He is a good representative of JKF's vision and mission.

We are impressed and dazed that he is giving back in his usual manner to his communities (at Ward & Street levels) at this lean season: bags of rice and other food items in this large quantities, a big thank you!

Others are implore to emulate this rare gesture to relieve Dr. John Kayode Fayemi and his Government much of the tasks ahead of His Excellency.

Coincidentally, today happens to be his birthday, we pray that God will keep him for us to continue selfless services to humanity.

Our gratitude cannot be measured at this time, we are deeply grateful and saying thank you to JKF for appointing a rare gem into his administration.

May his shadow never glow less!

Politics / *sam Omatseye And His Colony Of Hatchet Writers* By Obafemi Oluwadare by sojiboy(m): 8:51am On Mar 13, 2020
*Sam Omatseye and his colony of hatchet writers*

By Obafemi Oluwadare

The Nigerian Presidential election will hold in 2023 but the atmosphere is already charged with political activities, movements, meetings and political realignments across the country.

The most noticeable of all the political activities is the recent travails of the diminutive and controversial suspended national chairman of the APC, Adams Oshiomhole who is battling for political survival. Closely related to this is the politics of the presidential primaries of the APC which is the underbelly for the Adams Oshiomhole debacle. No doubt, the embattled APC chairman has stepped on many toes as well as done many things wrong by his high handedness which has affected the fortunes of the party in states like Zamfara, Rivers and Bauchi.

Many faceless groups and individuals have been canvassing the candidacy of APC leader and former Governor of Lagos state, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu even though he is yet to declare his intention. On the other hand it is rumoured that Ekiti State Governor, and Chairman Nigeria Governor's forum, Dr. Kayode Fayemi is also eyeing the seat but he has not said so and in fact recently, he denied nursing any presidential ambition but that he was only a bridge builder by mediating in many conflicts across the country. I want to make it clear from the beginning that both Asiwaju Bola Tinubu and Dr. Kayode Fayemi are illustrious sons of Yorubaland and they are eminently qualified to be President of Nigeria if they so desire.

However, what I don't understand is the barrage of attacks against the person of Governor Kayode Fayemi by a colony of hatchet writers shamelessly led by one Sam Omatseye, the pompous back page hagiographer masquerading as a columnist of The Nation newspaper, a pen merchant and protege of Asiwaju Tinubu. Omatseye is nothing but an attack dog too full of himself and suffers from self conceitedness.

The hatchet writing started from Idowu Akinlotan's Palladium on Sunday March 8, on the back page of The Nation titled, " Unhorsing Oshiomhole the wrong way" where he called Governor Fayemi many unprintable names which is tantamount to irresponsible journalism. This was followed by Omatseye's diatribe titled, " Adam or Leave" on the back page of The Nation on Monday, March 9. There was yet another one on page 18 in the Nation on Wednesday, March 11, titled, " Oshiomhole vs Fayemi: Tale of Temperaments" by a faceless Oluwasegun Esan, which also castigated Governor Fayemi.

The articles were choreographed and deliberately directed at the person of Governor Fayemi. Let me make it clear from the beginning that I am an Ekiti man and I am very proud to be so and also very proud of my Omoluabi Governor, Kayode Fayemi who within his first year in office as Governor for the second time has restored lost Ekiti values such that people like me can now boldly say I am from Ekiti unlike in the past when we were ashamed to disclose our state of origin. It is because of this that I and many others like me take serious exception to any gang up by so called pen merchants to bring Fayemi's name into disrepute under any guise. We will resist this with all within our disposal and that is not a threat!

Omatseye and Akinlotan without any basis or fact heaped the blame of Oshiomhole's travails on Governors Fayemi and two other governors as if Adams Oshiomhole is blameless! The strength of their argument is weak, and the kernel of their submission is a confirmation of an ulterior motive which is just to attack Fayemi and cow him into submission but they're mistaken!

I once sat close to Omatseye at a public function and I heard him lamenting to another guest from Asiwaju Tinubu's camp that he ought to have dealt with someone in his column but Asiwaju asked him to hold on! That was the day I lost all respect for him. This simply means he is an attack dog against real and perceived enemies of Asiwaju Tinubu even when Tinubu did not ask him to do so.

It is in the same spirit that he has been attacking Kayode Fayemi simply because he perceived he has a presidential ambition! Let's assume without conceding that Fayemi has a Presidential ambition, so what? Is he not qualified if not more qualified than most aspirants in the Southwest? For God's sake, Fayemi is a second time governor, chairman of Nigeria's Governors' Forum and a former Minister of the Federal Republic! All these cannot just happen by sheer coincidence!
By the way, who is Sam Omatseye? What does he want? What does he know? Whose interest is he serving? What's the underbelly of his vitriolic attacks on Fayemi?

Omatseye overstepped his bounds when he derisively referred to Fayemi as the modern day Akintola! How dare him! In case he doesn't understand the history of Yoruba because he is not Yoruba which accounts for his very rude idiosyncrasies, he needs to be educated that Fayemi has not exhibited any trait of Akintola in the sense in which the _fine bara_ (corporate beggar) writer, Omatseye wanted to portray him. Akintola was believed to have sacrificed the interest of the Yorubas on the alter of self aggradisement by rigging an election with the aid of the NPC controlled Federal Government and pitched his tent with the oppressors of the Yorubas which marked the beginning of the end of the first republic and the bloody end of Akintola himself. Fayemi is the exact opposite of the character just described. He won his election square and fair two times, first on 2007/2009 and recently in 2018 a mandate which he still enjoys.

Fayemi lost re-election in 2014 but he was gallant in defeat as he honourably conceded defeat in one of the most quoted speeches in the history of this country and the first time a sitting governor will accept defeat graciously! On the other hand, when it was glaring to all and sundry that Akintola lost election, he refused to relinquish his seat leading to the popular mantra, "Akintola Taku" ( Akintola remained adamant) so Fayemi is not Akintola and can never be Akintola.

If we are talking of the interest of the Yorubas, nobody can claim to love the Yoruba nation more than Kayode Fayemi. He championed the Afenifre Renewal Group which is to be a buffer between the old warring and polarised Afenifere and this has been fostering Yoruba interest ever since. The Development Agenda for Western Nigeria (DAWN) was the brainchild of Kayode Fayemi who inaugurated the Technical Committee that worked on the DAWN document in Ado Ekiti during his first term as Governor in 2012. The DAWN which now has a commission is aimed at fostering socio economic cooperation among the states which formerly made up the western region. The DAWN commission has bonded the states together more than any force.

Kayode Fayemi was the main mover and architect of the Western Nigeria Security Network codenamed, operation Amotekun to protect he Yoruba nation from criminal elements and we all witnessed how he was attacked from the part of the country jesters like Omatseye accused him of colluding with at the detriment of the Yorubas.

Omatseye is a meddlesome interloper, a foreigner among the Yorubas ( omo atonnrinwa) who has long lost his Itsekiri origin and would rather hibernate and like a parasite, adopt that of another tribe for a pot of porridge! Omatseye should tell us that Yoruba leader who was heavily suspected of not supporting Operation Amotekun for his selfish agenda and who was forced to make a pronouncement only when he was being hit right, left and centre by Yorubas home and abroad! That person was not definitely Kayode Fayemi who we all know was the arrowhead of Amotekun, a security outfit and an agenda that has become a very potent unifying force of the Yorubas which can only be likened to the solidarity recorded among Ekitis during the Kiriji war of the 17th century.

Omatseye may have gotten away with many rubbish he had written against our respected leaders in Yorubaland including desecrating Chief Obafemi Awolowo's family over which he was cursed in the following words of late Mama HID Awolowo in year 2011, “The abject insult that was heaped on my person by Omatseye, for daring to rise above partisanship and pursue the common good, has caused me the kind of pain that can only be dealt with by offering it to God, whose wheel of justice may grind slowly but is guaranteed to grind exceedingly fine", he won't get away with his latest misadventure.

Omatseye will not get away with his latest pastime of rubbishing and pulling down a shining light of the Yoruba nation, Dr. Kayode Fayemi. He shall be matched word for word and pen for pen. Omatseye is not in any way in the same league with Dr. Kayode Fayemi who is cerebral, an intellectual of international repute and an astute administrator and manager of men and resources who has transformed his erstwhile landlocked state of Ekiti to an investors destination.

We still remember how Omatseyes trap was shut by the threat of the immediate past Governor of Bayelsa State, Seriake Dickson when he started writing rubbish about him because Dickson would not play ball. Dickson simply told him he has his dossier and the blackmailer quietly retreated! If it is the culture in Omatseye's Itsekiri land to rubbish leaders, we will resist that in Ekiti because we cherish our leaders.

Yes Fayemi once lost an election which is normal in a democratic setting but he regained the same seat four years later which is rare in our clime!

Idowu Akinlotan accused Fayemi of playing Machiaveliian politics whatever that means is his own conjecture. The truth about power which Akinlotan and Omatseye should ask Asiwaju Tinubu is that, "Power is not served a la carte"! So they expect Fayemi to be a whipping boy and be rubbished? Is Nigerian presidency the birthright of any individual? Who told you an Ekiti man cannot be President?

If Oshiomhole has management and personality problem, he should make necessary amends if it is not too late. Stakeholders cannot fold their arms and watch Oshiomolle drive the APC vehicle into a ditch simply because some hypocrites like Omatseye believe he will do their bidding in the nearest future.

I wish to sound it loud and clear to Omatseye, Akinlotan, their colony of hatchet writers and their sponsors that they will meet their match in the pen profession if the attack on Dr. Fayemi continues! It is not only ex Governor Dickson who has Omatseye's dossier! Let me end this with a Yoruba proverb that says "ai mose ko lo mu omo orogun tori bo omi gbigbona" (It is the inability of the spatula to reject dangerous assignments that made it put its head inside hot water). And another one, " ti Sango ba n paraba, to n pa iroko, bii to igi nla ko". ( Thunder may strike the Oak and Milicia trees but it dares not touch the Asorin, Mysterious tree).

Omatseye, we are ready for you in Ekiti!

Politics / Yinka Oyebode: EKSG Letter To Obas: Purely An Administrative Issue by sojiboy(m): 3:48pm On Mar 12, 2020
PRESS RELEASE

*Re: EKSG Letter to Obas: Purely an Administrative Issue*

The attention of the Governor of Ekiti State, Dr Kayode Fayemi has been drawn to some misleading news reports being circulated in some online blogs alleging plans by the state government to dethrone some traditional rulers in the state.
The reports, which are products of the bloggers’ hastiness, grossly misrepresent the development.
It thus becomes imperative to state the true position of things as follows:
• The Ekiti State Bureau of Chieftaincy Affairs is responsible for the coordination, management and welfare of the Traditional Council and its affairs.

• The Bureau briefed the Governor, on the prolonged absence of some members of the State’s Traditional Council meetings as well as traditional council meetings at the local government level. Mr Governor directed that the Bureau should write the affected traditional rulers to find out reasons for their absence.

• The Honourable Attorney General wrote to the Bureau on Mr Governor’s directives. Consequently, the Bureau (through a senior official) wrote to the affected traditional rulers seeking for reasons for their prolonged absence at council meetings. The formal nature of the letter is what is being misconstrued to be a query.

• Contrary to insinuations, this is merely an administrative matter which is neither contentious nor confrontational. It is definitely not a ploy or plan to remove any Oba from office. As public officers, our traditional rulers act as the direct link between government and their domains; they have expected duties and functions, and as an administrative head, Mr Governor should be aware of reasons why such duties are not being carried out.

• It is on record that some of the Obas had earlier written Mr Governor to give legitimate reasons for their absence which have been accepted. The letter in focus was written to only about 11 Obas whose absence could not be explained and not to the 16 _Pelupelu_ as erroneously reported.

• In Ekiti State, our traditional rulers are well respected and revered as custodians of our culture and traditions. The Fayemi Administration is committed to the welfare and protection of the cultural heritage of our people which the Kabiyesis hold in trust.

• Any rumour claiming that Governor Fayemi is planning to dethrone any Oba in Ekiti State is a deliberate and malicious misrepresentation of the true situation. It is obviously an attempt from opposition to create chaos and confusion between the Ekiti State Government and the good and law abiding people of Ekiti State

• The Governor holds ALL our traditional rulers in high esteem and reverence as expected of an _Omoluabi_. No arm of government discussed nor considered dethroning any Kabiyesi at any time because there is no basis for such.

• Anyone spreading such malicious and unfounded rumours is an enemy of the good people of Ekiti State and they are hereby advised to desist from creating unnecessary tension in the polity.

Politics / Fayemi: Amotekun Not Regional Police by sojiboy(m): 4:48pm On Jan 09, 2020
AMOTEKUN NOT REGIONAL POLICE - FAYEMI

...as Southwest Governors restate commitment to Nigeria's Sovereignty at the launch of Western Nigeria Security Network

Ekiti State Governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi, has dispelled rumours making the rounds that the newly launched Western Nigeria Security Network code-named Operation Amotekun is a regional police.

Fayemi who spoke in Ibadan at the launch of the security apparatus stated that the South west governors were not out to undermine the integrity and sovereignty of Nigeria but were providing the Yoruba people with a "confidence building strategy" to tackle crime and criminality in the region.

The governor added that Amotekun was neither an alternative to any of the conventional security agencies in the country nor a state police.

He said rather, Amotekun would complement and work in collaboration with existing security agencies to provide adequate security of lives and property in the region.

"The Western Nigeria Security Network operation Amotekun is nothing but a community policing response to a problem that our people would like to put an end to. But pending the time that the community policing strategy being put together by the Nigeria Police comes to fruition, it is clearly important that we give our people a confidence boosting strategy.

"So if you ask me, Amotekun is nothing but a confidence building strategy for our people in the western zone. When those elements that are going to work in the joint task force with the mainstream security agencies undertake this assignment, they are going to do it with the knowledge of the terrain, language and culture of the community they are going to work."

"Amotekun is not a duplication neither is it a replacement for the Nigeria Police Force. Amotekun is a complement that gives our people the confidence that they are being looked after by the people they elected into office. We do not want this to create fear in the mind of any one. We are not creating a regional police force. We are not oblivious of the steps we need to follow in forming a State police. We are law abiding citizens of Nigeria. We know that will require a constitutional amendment and we are not there yet", he said.

While commending the role played by the mainstream security agencies in tackling kidnapping and banditry in the zone, the governor said Amotekun would reduce the burden on the agencies which he described as "overstretched".

Fayemi who added that the security agencies have embraced the Western Nigeria Security Network urged Nigerians not to give room for fears which may have emanated from the propaganda circulating in the social media about Amotekun.

" We were daily assaulted by the spate of kidnapping, banditry, armed robbery across the length and breadth of the South West. We obviously sought succour in all the right places and the mainstream security tried their best in arresting the security situation. It was in the context of this development that we lost the daughter of our leader in Afenifere, Pa Fasoranti.
" As elected leaders of our various States, our primary responsibility according to section (14)2 of the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended, is the security and welfare of our citizens and that's what informed the coming together of my colleagues and I to fashion a way that we can utilise to complement the work of our mainstream security agencies that are quite overstretched in their efforts to curb the menace that has afflicted not just our zone but the entire country at the time", he said.

In his speech, the Chairman of the Western Nigeria Governors' Forum and Governor of Ondo State, Governor Rotimi Akeredolu said the governors are united in their resolve to ensure peace and security in the region.

Akeredolu stated that the south west governors cannot erect "an antagonistic structure whose template is against existing security apparatus".

He said the " barbarism" displayed by criminal elements in the region gave the governors grave concern which necessitated the security platform.

The governor stressed that he and his colleagues believed in the unity of Nigeria because the nation's "strength is in unity".

Earlier in his welcome remarks, Governor Seyi Makinde had stated that development cannot take place in a state of insecurity.

He added that Amotekun would protect the lives and property of indigenes and non indigenes.

Osun State Governor, Mr Gboyega Oyetola who was represented by his Deputy, Benedict Alabi thanked the service chiefs for their support in tackling insecurity in the region.

He assured that Amotekun would work in collaboration with all security agencies

Politics / Fayemi: No Plan To Sack Workers In Civil Service by sojiboy(m): 7:43pm On Jan 05, 2020
No plan to sack workers in civil service, EKSG says
.....describes media report as false, misleading

The attention of the Government of Ekiti State has been drawn to some media reports insinuating that the administration had concluded plans to sack workers in the MDAs.

The misleading news reports, which quoted an anonymous source in the office of the Head of Service, is nothing but a tissue of lies and a figment of the imagination of the writers.

The office of the Head of Service has denied any plan to carry out any disengagement in the listed MDAs as claimed in the malicious reports. The Head of Service, Mr Ayodeji Ajayi, is the state official with authority to speak on issues relating to the service and not the rumour mill.

Contrary to the concocted lies of the writers, the state government wishes to place it on record that it has no plan to sack anyone in the MDAs. Instead, it is about concluding the process of employing about 3, 000 workers in the teaching and civil service in the state.

The recruitment process, which was well advertised, commenced in September 2019 and has reached the final stage as no fewer than 98 percent of the applicants that passed the competitive examinations have gone through interview sessions preparatory to the issuance of their letters of employment as teachers in the public primary and secondary schools as well as placements in different departments of the state service.

The recruitment process is going on side by side with other social security investments programmes for the youths and elderly citizens.

We implore the general public to ignore the misleading reports and be wary of hack writers and discredited purveyors of fake news whose agenda is to cause unnecessary anxiety, quoting unnamed and non- existent sources to deceive the unsuspecting ones.

Regardless of the misleading report, however, letters of employment will soon be issued to successful applicants. This is in continuation of plan by the Dr Kayode Fayemi - led administration to fortify the public service with qualified personnel and create diverse opportunities for others in entrepreneurship.

Mischief makers masquerading as writers are also urged to re- direct their energy to things that promote our core values and tow the path of truth and honour this year or be prepared for the consequence.

FUOYE Killings: NANS Apologises, Lifts 'Persona Non-Grata' Order Placed on Fayemi, Wife

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), has exonerated the wife of Ekiti State Governor, Erelu Bisi Fayemi of complicity in the killing of two students of Federal University, Oye Ekiti, during a recent crisis in the town.

The students' body also lifted the person non grata order placed on Governor Kayode Fayemi and his wife across all the the tertiary institutions in the country, describing the role the duo played in ensuring proper burial for the departed students and support for their families as commendable.

The students' body also tendered its apology to the first family for holding them responsible for the FUOYE killings, a development it considered unfair.

Two FUOYE students, Joseph Okonofua and Kehinde Dada were shot dead on September 10, 2019 during a protest that coincided with the visit of Mrs Fayemi to Oye Ekiti, which led to confrontation betwen policemen and students due to unruly and violent nature of the latter.

The killings , had forced the NANS to make a public statement directing students to henceforth treat Fayemi and wife as persona non grata in all Nigerian tertiary institutions .

However, in a communique by NANS' Senate President, Gambo Abubakar Mohammed and Clerk, Kabiru Mohammed after its Senate meeting in Ado Ekiti on Monday, said neither the state governor nor the wife knew anything about the death of the students.

The SUG President, Federal University, Lokoja , Kogi State moved a motion for the lifting of the order , seconded by SUG President of Niger State College of Education, Zakari Mohammed and was affimed by other Senators at the plenary.

Exonerating Fayemi and wife further, NANS said: "Ekiti State government has taken the responsibilities of paying for hospital bills of all injured students and for the burial arrangement of the deceased.

"The government also visited the deceaseds' families and compensated them while processing the employment opportunity two members of the bereaved families.

"We realized that it is time to move on and allow the sleeping dog lies in the interest of peace and love among all those that were involved".

The students appealed to Fayemi to fulfill his promises to those who suffered any form of calamity during the incident .

The Senators also lamented the death of a students' leader, Com. Yemi Adeniran, who died in a ghastly motor accident , saying the deceased did well as a member of the SUG during his lifetime.

Party Heavyweights Bent on showing Oshiomole Way Out.

As it is now, APC governs 20 states out of 36 including the FCT, List Below:
Borno State, Babagana Umara Zulum, APC.
Edo State, Godwin Obaseki, APC.
Ekiti State, John Olukayode Fayemi, APC.
Gombe State, Inuwa Yahaya, APC.
Jigawa State, Alhaji Badaru Muhammad, APC.
Kaduna State, Nasir el Rufai, APC.
Kano State, Umar Ganduje, APC.
Katsina State, Aminu Masari, APC.
Kebbi State, Atiku Bagudu, APC.
Kwara State, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, APC.
Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, APC.
Nasarawa State, Abdullahi Sule, APC.
Niger State, Abubakar Sanu-Lulu Bello, APC.
Ondo State, Rotimi Akeredolu, APC.
Ogun State, Dapo Abiodun, APC.
Plateau State, Rt Hon Simon Lalong, APC.
Yobe State, Mai Mala Buni, APC.
Abuja F.C.T, Mohammed Bello
Kogi State, Yahyah Bello, APC
Incoming*
Bayelsa State, David Lyon, APC

Out of the 19 states ruled by APC, 11 out of 13 party chairmen who signed for the call of Oshiomole's removal are from the APC states. Only Benue and Sokoto states are not APC ruling among the signatories.

The statement is clear. It simply means Oshiomole isn't popular amongst his own anymore and has little or no contribution to those ruling APC States victory at the polls. The scariest development has been his home state's (Edo) Chairman, joining others to call for his removal. As a man who prides himself on having his tentacles around politics on his home front, that's a colossal loss to Oshiomole.

It's also important to note that Kastina State Chairman is among the signatories. No leaf drops from the Kastina political tree without President Buhari's Knowledge. One only needs to read between the line to see where it is all going.

Do not also forget that Progressive Governors forum(made up of APC governors) have earlier called for the NEC that sat yesterday and they had their way. Need I also remind you that they have as well called for Oshiomole's resignation? It might only a matter of time before they have their way. Obviously, the battle line has been drawn.

The signatories to the call for Oshiomhole’s removal include:
Bala Kangiwa (Kebbi Chairman), Habibi Sara (Jigawa Chairman), Ade Adetimehin (Ondo Chairman), Abdullahi Abbas (Kano Chairman), Abba Yaro (Benue Chairman), Omotoso Paul (Ekiti), Mohammed Iman (Niger Chairman), Anslem Ojezua (Edo Chairman), Philips Shekwo (Nasarawa Chairman), Air Com Ikeda (Kaduna Chairman), Lakep Dabah (Plateau Chairman), Shitu Shitu (Katsina Chairman) and Isah Acida (Sokoto)

Half of 19 APC ruling states is 8.5 but we have 11 APC states as signatories which is more than average of APC Ruling states, calling for Oshiomole's removal and 13 states out of 36 may be minute however, power lies in the hands of the Governors of those states to do and undo their wishes to their national party Chairman.

Yesterday "Oshiomole must Go" rally happened in Abuja and some other APC states. It is important to note that the "Oshiomole Must Go" campaign started from Edo and Warri in the South South region of the country earlier this year. This is Oshiomole's Region and the signs are prominent that the APC National Chairman would be shown the exit door EXCEPT he reconciles with Gov. Godwin Obaseki. At the moment he has been expelled from the party at the unit and ward level. The popular saying that all politics is local still holds sway and adherence to that expulsion by NEC would be next on the Agenda in subsequent NEC meeting. If that sails through, Oshiomole would be regarded as "Ex chairman" sooner than later.

According to information from yesterday's NEC meeting, Buhari was quoted as saying:
"The crisis in Edo will be brought under control. I've mandated the National Chairman to put his home in order and ensure that the Governor who have served one term is supported to serve his second. Where there are grievances, I've also spoken with the Governor to give room for reconciliation so that we don't give the PDP an advantage in the state we already have control..."
Now that the President has spoken, it remains to see what next plays out.

As for me, I will keenly watch the game as it unfolds from the corner of my room in Ado-Ekiti.

Politics / Mininum Wage: Ekiti To Commence Payment Of N30,000 This Month by sojiboy(m): 6:17pm On Oct 05, 2019
EKITI TO COMMENCE PAYMENT OF N30,000 MINIMUM WAGE THIS MONTH
… As Fayemi approves recruitment of 2,000 primary and secondary schools teachers
Ekiti State Governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi, has stated that his administration would commence payment of N30,000 minimum wage to Ekiti workers this month.
Dr Fayemi said the payment of the minimum wage was to motivate workers, especially teachers, to deliver the best to the state and reclaim the lost glory and pride of being the education nerve centre of the country.
The Governor, who spoke amidst cheers by highly elated teachers and public servants in attendance at the 2019 World Teachers’ Day celebration in Ado- Ekiti on Saturday, however, tasked teachers to strive for the realisation of the bid to return the state to a leading position in education.
He said, “We will commence payment of N30,000 minimum wage to workers in Ekiti with effect from this month. We are determined to reward diligence because the workers, particularly our teachers, have done the state proud.”
Dr Fayemi, who reiterated the determination of his administration to protect and preserve the core values of making Ekiti the nation’s education capital, said he decided to establish more schools in Ado Ekiti to decongest schools in the capital city and make learning environment more conducive.
The Governor said, “The only way we can reclaim our lost glory in education is to encourage our teachers in and outside service. I will promote functional and technical education in this state.”
Fayemi said that the ongoing recruitment of over 2000 teachers into the public primary and secondary schools was part of the mission of the administration to safeguard the future of the state. The newly recruited 2000 teachers, according to him, are to fill consequential vacancies arising from retirement of teachers adding that the teaching profession still needs brilliant, agile and vibrant men and women for the sustenance of the profession in the state.
The Governor said: “I have also ensured that all students of school age are in schools in line with Education Law which makes basic education compulsory and in line with global best practice.
“In this year’s West African Examination Council Senior School Certificate Examination, Ekiti was ranked 12th. I want to salute our teachers, but that is not where Ekiti belongs, we must continually do more to rise to number one”, he said.
The governor, who further stated that car and housing loans would soon be extended to the primary school teachers, added that names of two Tutor-Generals would soon be announced. This he said, will put teachers on the same pedestal with their civil servant counterparts with potential to rise to the position of permanent secretary.
Fayemi said his administration would continue to pursue the mandate of the National Policy on Education which makes it compulsory for all school age children in Ekiti State.
He said, “I note of course what the chairman of NUT said here about loans being extended to primary schools teachers, and I want to assure you that that will be given very serious consideration. I also want to let you know that government has concluded plans to ensure that we commence the payment of minimum wage of N30,000 with effect from this month.
“Let me state specifically that two new Tutor-Generals appointments have been approved and would be announced in the next week and the third one of course would follow with the retirement of the third Tutor-General. On the other request relating to promotion, arrears of salaries and leave bonuses, I want to assure you that we would not renege on our promise and we are doing all we can to set outstanding obligations to all. As I have assured you at my recent meeting with all workers.
“I wish to state emphatically that we are running with the time and vision to ensure delivery of the dividends of democracy to all the good people of Ekiti State. In other words, we will do everything humanly possible not to leave any stone unturned in making life easier and more comfortable for our people both at home and in diaspora.
“The present administration in Ekiti State under my watch is poised, committed and highly determined to restoring, preserving and guiding our core values for posterity.
“May I reiterate at this auspicious moment that, Ekiti State Government will not renege on its promises to pursue free, compulsory, functional, basic, affordable, enterprising, quality, technical and vocational as well as entrepreneurship education. This is to ensure that all the school age children in Ekiti State are in school in accordance with the mandate of the National Policy on Education, Universal Basic Education Law and Sustainable Development Goals with Quality Assurance practices and global best practice.”
According to Governor Fayemi, “some of the remarkable landmark achievements and initiatives of this State government in the education sector include but not limited to the following: Enactment of Executive Order 001 prohibiting the collection of levies and fees from the pupils and students of all the public primary and secondary schools across the state; disbursement of running grants for the first, second and third terms of 2018/2019 academic session to all the public primary and secondary schools in the state; ongoing renovation of the dilapidated structures in some schools and distribution of free JAMB forms to 3000 candidates across the 16 Local Government Areas of Ekiti State.”
Other achievements according to him are: establishment of four new public secondary schools in Ado-Ekiti metropolis to decongest some of the over populated secondary schools in the State Capital; payment of Bursary for students in Law School for 2018/2019 academic session; training and retraining of teachers in all the subject areas to build their skills and capacity for efficient and effective teaching and learning activities in the schools; regular payment of teachers’ salaries, allowances and personal emoluments including granting of loans and payment of core subjects and rural allowances to the teachers of core subjects and teachers serving in the rural areas respectively.
While congratulating the teachers and the critical stakeholders in the Sector, Fayemi implore all the well-meaning Ekiti people to join hands with him to move education forward to the next level of glory, urging teachers not to rest on their past glory but strive harder to be the best in their chosen profession.
In their remarks, the NUT Chairman and his ASSUS counterpart in the state Comrades Samuel Odugbesan and Sola Adigun respectively commended the state government for being labour friendly.
The labour leaders praised Fayemi for recruiting teachers into public schools across the state, saying this will help in strengthening the future of education.

Politics / Fish Out FUOYE Killer Cops, Fayemi Tells CP by sojiboy(m): 8:27am On Sep 16, 2019
Text of broadcast by Governor Kayode Fayemi on the Violent Protest at the Federal University, Oye-Ekiti, Ekiti State

Ekitikete,

I have in the last few days agonised over the incident that took place at the Federal University, Oye Ekiti (FUOYE) on Tuesday, September 10, 2019.

Until the multiple investigations are completed, I am necessarily constrained from talking about the details of what transpired. I however do not need to be constrained about the emotions a tragedy like this evokes.

Any death is a tragedy. Any shooting arising from legitimate protests diminishes our fledgling democratic dispensation and calls to question our commitment to fundamental human rights.

Having heard from all parties to the incident, it is pertinent that I now personally convey my deeply felt sorrow for the loss of two promising young lives and for those who suffered injuries.

To be sure, our government prides itself on its strict adherence to the rule of law. The right of citizens to protest on any issue relating to governmental actions or inactions is a fundamental component of our good governance agenda.

We could not therefore under any circumstances have directed that deadly force be used on any of our citizens freely expressing their right to protest.

Even before the conclusion of the investigations into this matter, we have taken a number of steps; a high level government delegation has visited the families of the deceased. This will not be a one-off intervention. We will stand firmly with, and support the families at this time. Those persons with varying degrees of injuries will also be given support whilst their hospital expenses will be defrayed by government.

I have directed the State Commissioner of Police to urgently commence an investigation into the circumstances that led to the unfortunate shooting incident with a view to identifying possible culprits within and outside the Force. Taken together with the ongoing investigation by the University management, we will consider the need for an independent panel of inquiry, if necessary once these fact finding investigations are concluded.

In the meantime, I have suggested to our police authorities to explore the use of non-lethal rubber bullets in managing public protests and the Nigerian Governors Forum will take this up at the highest levels in government.

I note the initial public statement by the University authorities and its Students Union body. We welcome the conclusion that neither the wife of the Governor nor any Government official directed the shootings. Indeed it is obvious that the wife of the Governor and those on her entourage are victims of this unfortunate incident.

The issue that led to the protest has been the subject of intense disagreement and negotiations with BEDC since I became Governor. Last week, my Commissioner for Infrastructure and Public Utilities was still in Benin to see BEDC management on the matter of inadequate and inconsistent supply of electricity in Ekiti State. Though Governors do not have any control over privatised power distribution companies, the four Governors from the states covered by the Benin DISCO have consistently expressed dissatisfaction with the services of BEDC and taken the matter up with the Vice President who chairs the Privatisation Council.

In addition to this, I have been talking to the Rural Electrification Agency about including FUOYE in the next round of their University Electrification Project.

I therefore appeal for calm and caution as we await the reports of the various investigations. No persons or group should attempt to use this tragic incident to destabilise the peace and progress of Ekiti State. It is time for sober reflection as we mourn the dead and care for the wounded.

Thank you and God bless you all.

OYE PROTEST: EKITI GOVERNMENT VISITS, CONDOLES WITH FAMILIES OF SLAIN FUOYE STUDENTS
The Ekiti State government has commiserated with the families of Joseph Okunofua and Kehinde Dada, students of the Federal University, Oye Ekiti (FUOYE) who lost their lives during Tuesday’s protest in Oye-Ekiti.

The government delegation comprising the Secretary to the State Government, Hon Biodun Oyebanji; Chief of Staff to the Governor, Hon Biodun Omoleye; Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social development, Chief (Mrs) Moji Fafure; Commissioner for Environment, Hon Gbenga Ageyo; lawmaker representing Ido/Osi 1 at the State Assembly, Hon. Abiodun Fawekun, and Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Women Affairs, Dr (Mrs) Enuice Oladimeji, visited the two families in Ido-Ekiti and Usi –Ekiti on Friday afternoon.

The delegation led by Hon. Oyebanji visited Mrs Esther Okunofua, mother of Joseph, who was a 300 level student of Biology Education in Ido -Ekiti and Mr and Mrs Adedayo Dada, parents of Kehinde Dada in Usi Ekiti.

Oyebanji said the visit was at the instance the State Governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi; who was saddened by the unfortunate incident, adding that the visit was to demonstrate that the state government share in their grief and to encourage them during the trying period.

“On the instruction of the governor, delegation of the government is here to condole with the families that lost their loved ones during the unfortunate incident that happened in Oye Ekiti. We are here to commiserate, encourage them to take heart and to assure them that government is with them in this trying period”, Oyebanji said.

The Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Chief (Mrs) Moji Fafure who also spoke with the parents in Yoruba language urged the parents of the deceased to take solace in the word of God as no amount of counselling can fill the vacuum created by the irreparable loss. She also prayed for the families.

“The Governor and his wife sent their condolence messages. They share in your grief over the unfortunate incident and they prayed that God in His mercies will not allow a reoccurrence. The loss is painful but it is our prayer that the Almighty God will keep your remaining children safe. Never again will you bury any of your children”, she said.

At the resident of the late Kehinde Dada, the deceased’s elder brother, Bankole Dada thanked the government delegation for sharing in their grief.

Update on FUOYE SAGA: by NANS ZONE D (SOUTH WEST)

Tell No Lies And Claim No Easy Victory ! ~ Amical Cabral.

Following the protest staged by the Federal University of Oye Ekiti Students on September 10th, 2019 to drive home their displeasure about the total black out of their academic environment and the eventual sad loss of two of our students and injury to many as a result of the protest, the NANS ZONE D was on ground yesterday Thursday September 12th, 2019 for the on spot assessment and held an all inclusive meeting with the concern students and Stakeholders in Ekiti State.

Amongst the participants of the said meeting in order of priority are The Students Union President of Federal University of Oye Ekiti “FUOYE” and the CHAIRMAN NANS EKITI JCC Executives i.e Secretary, P.R.O, Vice Chairman, Director Action and Mobilization and others). With the following persons in no particular order ; The Students Union President of COE Ikere Ekiti, Students Union President Ekiti State University, Ado Ekiti, The Vice President National Association of University Students, The National President of Federation of Ekiti State Students, The NANS National Vice President, Comrade Ojo immunity, Comrade Famuyibo Captain former NANS Deputy Senate President, Ekiti State University, Ado Ekiti former Students Union President and hosts of stakeholders and students.

In between our cerebral juxtaposing, we rose to leave for Usi Ekiti where we went to pay our last respect to one of the deceased, the late Comrade KEHINDE of FUOYE {May his soul Rest In Peace }, We pay a condolences visit to the family in their house and we went to the Federal Medical Center, Ido OSI, Ekiti from there we returned to Fajuyi Park to continue our meeting.

After all said and done, arguments here and there, but most importantly, on the account of the FUOYE Union President who gave us an on ground information of what went down and how it happened on the day of the incident as he had earlier narrated to Punch Newspaper as published yesterday 12th of September, 2019 and contributions from virtually everybody present at the said meeting, the Ekiti Students agreed thus:,

1. We condemn in the strongest possible term the gruesome killings of the two students who lost their lives in the saga from the hands of reckless police men, and pray to God to give the family of the departed the fortitude to bear the loss.

2. The Nigerian Police Force should release one of our students, who was arrested yesterday evening on this course and stop any further act of intimidations.

3. We demand for the immediate arrest and prosecution of the police officers involved in the killings in the interest of justice.

4. We implore the IGP to reform and reorient his men on the rules of engagement with students and the society at large in a democratic environment.

5. We demand that Ekiti State Government should take up all expenses of those injured and as well as compensate the family of the deceased.

6. We call on the State government to set up a judicial panel of enquiry to investigate the needless killings and barbaric show of force by the police and recommend appropriate sanctions as well as means of preventing future occurrence.

7. We demand for immediate restoration of electricity and provision of transformers not only to FUOYE but back to all the tertiary institutions in Ekiti State, “which was the primary cause of the entire unfortunate incidence”.

8. The proscription of the students union was done too hastily and was needless as well , we call on the FUOYE university management to immediately rescind this proscription order of the students union as this will be the first step in ensuring that peace returns to the university

9. All seized property of both the union and students should be released.

We hope to get quick and favourable response on these demands within the next 5 working days, we shall not hesitate to move down the secretariat of the zone to Ekiti and roll out our arsenal of agitation if these demands are not met.

The above was collectively agreed upon by all & we are to address the Press today 13th September, 2019 as such.

To the Naysayers who for Political reasons outside the scope of genuine Students interest have different thoughts; to those who wants to use this crisis and the death of our colleagues to score political points which include those insisting that the wife of Ekiti state governor ordered the killings of our colleagues contrary to all genuine reports on the ground and more specifically to those who may wants to rescind on our spirit of collectivity and camaraderie, WE WISH THEM WHAT BEFELL THOSE TWO STUDENTS WHOSE LIVE WAS LOST IN THE FUOYE SAGA.

On a final note, There’s one too many killings and bloodshed associated with this saga already, the tension is high and the people aggrieved, hence our resolve to the above approach to avoid further deaths of either the Students, passersby or security operatives or even more destruction of property.
Hence, our approach to provide this kind of Leadership at this delicate time!

The entire Students body in South West send our condolences to the family of the deceased, the FUOYE community and Ekiti NANS JCC leadership over this avoidable death.

May we never record this kind of death again. Mayan!!!

Signed:

Politics / Journalists Recount How They Escaped Death In FUOYE Crisis by sojiboy(m): 7:35am On Sep 13, 2019
Journalists recount how they escaped death in FUOYE crisis
......as NUJ condemns attack on First Lady, journalists

Some journalists ; Folorunso Adebiyi of Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria, Olasunkami Ogunmuko of CORE TV, Raphael Ogbonnaiye of Daily Trust, Ayodele Afolabi of The Guardian , Adedayo Oladele of New Nigerian and other journalists on the first lady's entourage narrowly escaped death while some sustained various degrees of injuries during Tueaday's attack on the convoy of Ekiti State First Lady in Oye Ekiti.

The journalists were on the entourage of the First Lady for the advocacy tour which started from Moba Local Government and had a stop in Ilejemeje Local Government before arriving in Oye.

The Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Ekiti chapter, Rotimi Ojomoyela , condemned the calculated attacks on his members, urging security agencies to fish out the perpetrators.

Recounting how the incident happened , a journalist with Core Television station in Lagos, Sunkanmi Ogunmuko, said Erelu Fayemi was already conducting the empowerment programme at the civic centre in Oye Ekiti when the incident occurred.

Ogunmuko said the students came in their hundreds from both Oye and Ikole campuses and started destroying vehicles with sticks and other dangerous weapons.

"They destroyed over twenty vehicles parked outside the hall and wounded journalists and other participants who were mainly women.

:Dome elderly women were also injured in the fracas.:

"It was the security details around the First lady that alerted the entourage about the happening. They were the ones who summoned courage to remove all the bonfires and mounted road blockades before the first lady and some of the women were frisked out of the beleaguered scene.

"Most of the journalists were injured as the students, aided by some hoodlums, threw stonea, sticks and bottles at them, while vehicles conveying journalists and police vehicles were also attacked as they drove out of the town ".

Ogunmuko stated that the police had to fire teargass to disperse the violent protesters and create passage for the governor's wife and other participants to safely leave the hot spot.

In the process, one journalist with the FRCN was hit on the head, while others sustaines injuries. They were later treated at a private hospital in Ado Ekiti.

He admitted that the students might have been inflitrated by wild - looking thugs during the protest.

Meanwhile, the state council of NUJ has demanded a full scale probe of the incident with a view to bringing the perpetrators to book.

10th September 2019 will go down as a day PS 91 was manifested in my life!!

By Fola Richie - Adewusi

The Obirinkete Tour a statewide women empowerment program organized by H.E. Erelu Bisi Fayemi the wife of the Governor of Ekiti State entered it's second day and will be in my Local Government- Oye Local Government with the headquarters being Oye Town. I did not go with the team to the other two Local Governments ( Moba and Ilejemeje) that day because I wanted to be at my Local Government to make sure all the women we have mobilized were there and all was set.

So I set out with Mrs Funke Falodun, the SA Land who is also from my ward because my driver was on leave. We got to the outskirts of Oye town and we saw vehicles parked that the FUOYE students have blocked the road protesting power outage. Travellers going to Abuja and other places were parked. We were told they have been there since 7am! We were there for about 2 hrs. I called the CSO and he said yes they are aware and that they are dialoguing with the students because they do not want to use force so that the situation will not get out of hand. After some time we were advised to leave our car behind and walk across so we can take a bike to the venue of the Empowerment program. Thank God I was on flats so we walked across and the students were making jest if us that we were exercising.

Shortly after the students opened up the road and we got a lift to the venue of the program.

About 45mins later, Erelu's entourage arrived through another route and the program started in earnest. Midway into the program we were hearing commotion outside and those outside rushing in with different objects flying and landing on the roof of the building where we were. We asked what was going on, we were told that the students have mobilized to come and disrupt the program. That cars parked on the road are being vandalized. There was panic and we had to cut short some of the other activities and ended the program.
To go out now became another issue, there was confusion, tear gas were used to dispersed the students but they did not relent. People were just entering any available vehicle just to get out of the place.

As we were going one big stone landed on the windscreen of Mrs Falodun's car and the boys were laughing! We were just shouting JESUS till we got out of the town!

When we got to Ado, in all more than 20 vehicles on the entourage were vandalized. People when were injured were being given first aid. Including Erelu's Orderly who had an injury very close to her eyes!

I have never witnessed anything like that before and do not pray to witness it against!

If truly those were students then Nigeria is in trouble! I still wonder how the disruption of an empowerment program will bring light to them. Erelu is not the BEDC MD and FUOYE is not a State University. If they want Erelu to help plead their cause, will it be by vandalizing and maiming people??
I am Hoping the Police will unmask those behind the incident.

I thank God for sparing my life! Glory to God!!

*The September 10th Oye-Ekiti Incident: Setting the Record Straight*

Yesterday, September 10th 2019, there was a crisis at Oye town in Oye Local Government, Ekiti State, while I was on an empowerment and advocacy tour to engage with women across the State. The tour commenced on Monday September 9th, with visits to two local governments which were hugely successful and peaceful.

On September 10th, we were billed to visit three local governments – Moba, Ilejemeje and Oye. The first two stops were just like the ones before – peaceful with no incident. While we were at Ilejemeje, we received a call from our advance security team that students of the Federal University of Oye (FUOYE) were protesting a lack of electricity in Oye town. We were told that more information would be provided on the situation. Shortly after we received word that the students had dispersed and the coast was clear for my visit.
When my convoy got to the Oye-Isan junction, we were met by a convoy of excited Okada riders who led us into Oye town. We made a stop at the primary healthcare center along the road for me to present delivery kits to pregnant women. There was no sign of any trouble. We proceeded to the venue of my town hall meeting at the civic center with women in Oye Local Government. The atmosphere was very peaceful, the women were singing and dancing and there was nothing to indicate that anything was amiss. I stopped at the tent erected for the mobile health clinic in front of the civic center to greet the elderly patients who were being attended to, and I also went to greet the beneficiaries of the Food Bank for the ederly project (Ounje Arugbo), who were assembled under another tent. I then proceeded into the hall for the program.

Half-way through our event, there was a disturbance outside. The FUOYE students (and possibly infiltrated by local thugs) had re-grouped and were trying to get into the venue. The security officers prevented this from happening. We finished our program, and by the time we got outside, we found that vehicles from my convoy and those of my guests that were parked outside the venue had been vandalised. As we were driving out of Oye town, we encountered at least two road blocks that the students had mounted to prevent the movement of vehicles. I could see students/thugs throwing stones and large sticks at us as we drove by.

However, the casualties that were recorded did not take place while I was there. There are eye-witnesses, photographs and video footage to confirm this.
There are reports circulating that the crisis occurred because I refused to address the protesting students. This is totally false. I did not encounter any group of students when I got to Oye town. They had dispersed before my arrival, and when they regrouped I was inside the venue. It is possible, as I stated earlier, that the group that came to the venue trying to gain access with sticks and stones in hand might have included local hoodlums, but there was no way of telling the difference.

I am scandalized and shocked beyond words to hear that I instructed security officers to shoot at students.

Yesterday morning, as I was driving past my office in Ado-Ekiti, a group of women were gathered there to protest. They are members of a Female Sweepers Association, who were protesting a cut in their monthly salary by the previous administration. They wanted me to help them. They were very polite and pleasant. I listened to them and promised to pass on their message to the appropriate authorities. These two protests happened on the same day. If I had met a group of protesting students, as a social justice activist myself, I would have listened to their complaints and addressed them. I firmly believe in citizens’ rights to protest on issues of concern.

I am deeply saddened that at least one fatality has been recorded. As a mother my heart bleeds. All these students are my children, and no mother prays to weep over their offspring.

I extend my sincere condolences to the family concerned, and I wish those who are still receiving treatment a speedy recovery.

The Obirinkete Tour has been suspended pending a review of what transpired yesterday. I thank friends and all members of the public who have expressed concern over this. God bless you all.

Politics / Weaponising Religion In Yoruba Politics by sojiboy(m): 3:25pm On Mar 24, 2019
In case you missed it, the Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC), an advocacy group, has asked President Muhammadu Buhari to appoint Muslim ministers from five south-west states when he constitutes his cabinet for his second term. Why? The group says because five of the south-west governors would be Christians, that is the way to go — to address the “marginalisation of Muslims” in the geo-political zone. Put plainly, what should determine the choice of ministers from the south-west should be religion, religion, religion, religion and religion. The press release said Yoruba Muslims have been marginalised in ministerial appointments for too long “despite being in the majority”.

I seem to understand the game MURIC is trying to play. The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has spent the better part of the last 33 years analysing how many Christians are appointed into cabinets, especially when the figure tends to favour Muslims. They are quiet when it favours Christians. In the aftermath of Nigeria’s membership of the Organisation of Islamic Conference (OIC) in 1986, CAN became more than a pressure group. In fact, it could have been registered as a political party along the line, given the role it played in weaponising religion in the politics of Nigeria. I guess MURIC was propped up as a counterforce to CAN and it is now trying to outCAN CAN.

One problem I can see, though, is that MURIC is not serving as a counterforce to CAN at the national level but has been working very hard to divide the south-west along religious lines. Although I have heard many people describe MURIC in uncomplimentary terms and would want the body ignored or even blacked out of media coverage, the truth remains that it represents a tendency and it is gaining followership. The Yoruba love to celebrate their multi-religious culture and often boast that they cannot be divided along religious lines. However, recent events suggest that this religious harmony should not be taken for granted, not with MURIC on the prowl.

What is MURIC’s complaint? Of the six south-west states, five will be governed by Christians by May 29, 2019. Only Osun state will be ruled by a Muslim, Alhaji Adegboyega Oyetola. Although Senator Ademola Adeleke has won his case at the election petitions tribunal, Oyetola is expected to appeal all the way to the Supreme Court. Adeleke, who goes by the name Nurudeen, is assumed to be a Muslim, although MURIC has rejected this claim and once issued a statement saying the dancing senator is a Christian. If Adekele eventually becomes governor, MURIC will have yet another evidence that Muslims have been marginalised in Yorubaland. It will then demand six ministers.

But how relevant is religion in the politics of south-west Nigeria? Is MURIC trying to solve a problem that does not exist? Is the body genuinely worried that if religion does not become a factor, south-west Muslims might be relegated to the background and be denied what belongs to them in the scheme of things? The south-west is the only region in Nigeria that is evenly divided between adherents of Islam and Christianity. While the north is predominantly Muslim, the south-south and the south-east are predominantly Christian. But no one, apart from MURIC, describes the south-west as predominantly Muslim or Christian. You have Christians and Muslims in almost every family.

From my own understanding of Yoruba politics, I would say religion has never really been a factor. Let’s be clear: religion is a very strong sentiment for millions of Nigerians, the Yoruba inclusive. However, when it comes to politics, it appears the Yoruba have managed to keep religion out of it most of the time. Chief Obafemi Awolowo, the revered Yoruba politician, was a Christian, but some of his closest associates were Muslims, notably Chief SO Gbadamosi and Alhaji DS Adegbenro. When the Western House of Assembly crisis broke out in 1962, Awolowo favoured Adegbenro to take over as premier from Chief SL Akintola, a Christian. Religion was not on the cards.

In the second republic, it was even more “ridiculous”. There was nothing like the religious balancing of governorship tickets that we have today. The governor of Lagos state was Alhaji Lateef Jakande, and his deputy was Alhaji Rafiu Jafojo. Both were Muslims. There was no CAN noise. The governor of Ogun was Chief Olabisi Onabanjo and his deputy was Chief Samuel Soluade. Both were Christians. There was no MURIC. The governor of Oyo was Chief Bola Ige and his deputy was Chief SM Afolabi. Both were Christians. Nobody even thought about it. Although Chief Bisi Akande, a Muslim, later became deputy to Ige, religion was not the consideration.

The crisis created by Nigeria’s full membership of OIC in 1986 appeared to have snatched this innocence from Yorubaland. The mutual suspicion created at the national level percolated to the south-west, and suddenly the two religions must be accommodated in a governor-deputy ticket, even when nobody really cared about it. Yet, there was a deviation: when Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola was governor of Osun state from 2003 to 2007, his deputy was Mrs Olusola Obada. Both of them were Christians. In a state that is most probably predominantly Muslim, nobody raised an eyebrow. Nobody discussed religion. This is one thing the Yoruba seem to have conquered.

I will even go one more step. Most of those regarded as leading Yoruba politicians today are married to Christians, though they are Muslims. Name them: Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, Akande (who lost his wife in 2017), Senator Abiola Ajimobi (the “constituted authority”), Senator Ibikunle Amosun, Mr. Babatunde Fashola, and a host of others. Akande nominated two ministers into Buhari’s cabinet — Prof. Isaac Adewole and Prof. Omoleye Daramola — and both are Christians. Amosun, a Muslim, nominated Mrs. Kemi Adeosun, a Christian, into the cabinet. That is the kind of liberal and convivial religious atmosphere that has shaped Yoruba politics for ages.

Even the Christians that have been elected governors in the south-west had the support of Muslims. How on earth could Mr. Jide Sanwo-Olu have been elected governor of Lagos without the support of Muslim heavyweights? Mr. Dapo Abiodun is governor-elect of Ogun state with the full backing of Tinubu. Mr. Oluwaseyi Makinde has been elected governor of Oyo state with the backing of key politicians who are Muslims, most notably Alhaji Rashidi Ladoja. In the same state, Chief Adebayo Alao-Akala, a Christian, handed his supporters to Mr. Adebayo Adelabu, a Muslim. It would, therefore, be very wrong to say there is a conspiracy to install Christian governors in the south-west.

I am very much aware that the Lagos branch of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) addressed the press sometime in 2014 asking that the next governor of Lagos should be a Christian because Christians had been supporting Muslims since 1999, but those familiar with the story said it was a game arranged by the big masquerade himself who was eyeing a Muslim-Muslim presidential ticket. As ridiculous as it sounds, religion was not the motivation for the PFN demand! Fashola was doing well as governor of Lagos and nobody asked whether he was holding the Quran or the Bible on the day he was sworn in. Sure, I support balancing but I won’t kill for it.

However, the controversy over the wearing of the hijab in schools in the south-west is a pointer that the Yoruba are also vulnerable to religious conflict. If you ask me, though, I would think it is just a matter of intolerance and a storm in a teacup. There are churches that ban their members from wearing earrings and even instruct them to wear headscarf — so how is wearing hijab a problem for anybody if not that some people just want to stoke fire? Indeed, if MURIC concentrates its resources on advocating for Muslims in the south-west to practise their religion without let or hindrance, without intimidation or discrimination, it would have my support 100%.
While MURIC has the constitutional right to advocate as it wishes, I would advise, with every sense of humility, that weaponising religion in south-west politics is too dangerous. Northern Nigeria is today sharply divided by religion. The tension is permanent. I don’t envy them. Northerners identify themselves first by their religions before anything else. In many northern cities, it is rare to see Muslims and Christians living in the same area, much less the same compound. But in Yoruba homes, you can have two people sleeping on a bed — one a Muslim, the other a Christian. If religion is, therefore, successfully turned into a lethal weapon in the south-west, who can survive it?

AND FOUR OTHER THINGS…
BRAIN DRAIN AGAIN

You do not need a stethoscope to diagnose the malignant ailment within the medical profession in Nigeria. Most of the doctors I have spoken with complain about poor equipment and low morale. Even the medical schools are poorly equipped and many of the teachers are directly from hell. So I was not surprised to learn that Nigerian medical doctors have joined the brain drain train. This time, it is not to Canada. It is to Saudi Arabia. Hundreds of doctors recently thronged a popular hotel in Lagos where officials of Saudi Arabia health ministry came to recruit them. Soon, we will not complain about poor hospitals again. We will be talking about lack of doctors. Unhealthy.

POLL DANCE

Senator Ademola Adeleke, also known as the ‘Dancing Senator’, has been declared winner of the September 2018 governorship poll in Osun state by the tribunal — and many would say it was not such a surprise. The circumstances surrounding the declaration of Alhaji Gboyega Oyetola of APC as the winner were strange — especially how some results were cancelled, thereby forcing a supplementary election. The tribunal declared the cancellation “illegal” and proclaimed Adeleke, the PDP candidate, as the winner. Oyetola will definitely fight all the way to the Supreme Court, but INEC needs to save us this waste of precious time and resources in future elections. Justice.

THE PAWN

The story of Tanitoluwa Adewumi, the eight-year-old Nigerian chess genius in the US, has caught global attention. It is the romantic story we all love to read: a poor, little homeless boy conquering the world with a sling and a stone. Tani has won the New York State Scholastic Primary Championship in his age bracket — and he only started learning to play chess a year ago! Even former US President Bill Clinton has invited him for a handshake. The line that the Adewumis were fleeing from Boko Haram attacks in Nigeria may be suspect, but let us just eat the rice and ignore the stones. Tani could have been hawking “pure water” if he was still in Nigeria. Opportunities.

AND FINALLY…

Yakubu Dogara, speaker of the house of reps, recently wrote to the International Criminal Court (ICC) as well as the governments of the US, the UK and the EU on a “plot” by the federal government of Nigeria “to unleash violence on innocent citizens of Bauchi state” ahead of the supplementary elections. I don’t know if Dogara took the right step or not, but these guys must be getting tired of receiving mails from Nigerians every day. The rate at which Nigerians are writing to ICC, UK, US and EU these days at the slightest provocation must have turned us into a laughing stock. Expect a Nigerian husband to petition ICC soon if the wife is reluctant to open the door for him. Petty.

FAYOSE LEFT #155.79BILLION DEBT –FAYEMI

….as Ekiti Speaker flays ex –gov for denying them salaries and furniture allowances

Ekiti State Governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi has put the debts left behind by his predecessor, Ayodele Fayose at #155,791,785,214.08.
Delivering the State of the State address at the State House of Assembly, governor Fayemi said the sum was the total debt profile of Ekiti State as at 16th October, 2018.

Fayemi said he inherited "a State that was in total chaos and a people severely disorientated under a suppressive government who had raised and promoted deceit into statecraft".

Fayemi spoke just as the Speaker of the House , Hon Adediran Alagbada lamented that the immediate past administration of ex-Governor Fayose, denied the House members their salaries and furniture allowances despite making appropriations that covered such expenses.
The governor stated that his administration had distanced itself from "political witch-hunting and media trials to score cheap political goals" but decided to give the State of the State in order to use the "lessons of the past to create the future of our dreams".

Fayemi disclosed that Ekiti State under Fayose received #184.83 billion as income between 2014 and 2018; noting that the former governor had no reason to owe salaries given the huge revenue that accrued to the State during the immediate past administration.
While giving a breakdown of the debt profile, Fayemi said though borrowing is in itself not a bad thing, borrowing to fund self-serving and unproductive projects is unpatriotic.

He gave the breakdown of the debt as follows:
Loans and bonds #57,694,460,298.79; salary arrears #16,777,257,608.52; outstanding leave bonus #4,402,585,167.53; corpers allowances #28,883,959.00; outstanding subventions #4,770,676,870.98; pension and gratuity arrears #39,775,919,872.02, and outstanding contractors claims #28,575,946,572.25.
Others include Outstanding furniture allowance #470,266,137.09; severance allowance #586,144,167.51; monitized vehicle arrears #101,243,387.24; outstanding warrants #386,77,450.64; outstanding FIRS obligation #184,215,623.43; Traditional rulers arrears #150,214,204.10; judgement debts #95,048,963.35 and other outstanding liabilities #1,792,144,931.62.
Fayemi said the debt profile was a product of the audit carried out by Pricewater Coopers (PWC).

The governor stated that he had used the first 100 days of his administration to "lay the needed foundation to restore our values and restore Ekiti State to its rightful position in the comity of States".

"This is our first stewardship in the series of others to be witnessed in the life of this administration in the fulfilment of our obligation to Ekiti people. As a government, we are more interested in building and strengthening institutions rather than wielding powers or self aggrandizement. This is the world best practice in governance and we are proud to thread that path to attain speedy economic recovery and value restoration for Ekiti State", he said.

He called on corporate organisations, donor agencies, the federal government and Ekiti people to support his administration in moving Ekiti State forward "economically, socially and politically".

Speaking on the forthcoming election, Fayemi urged everyone to play by the rules and be law abiding; urging Ekiti people to use the election to consolidate the gains of his administration in the last 100 days.

In his remarks, the Speaker of the Assembly, Rt Hon Adeniran Alagbada said Ekiti people have now got "new hope through the policies and programmes of the Fayemi-led government".

Alagbada who said the 100 days of Fayemi in government is "better than the four years of Fayose" called on Ekiti people to rally support for the governor to succeed.
He lamented the poor treatment meted out to members of the House by the fayose administration, inspite of their support for the former Governor.

He said, the House had it on record that it made appropriation for for all government expemses and that it was sad that despite their support the former Governor denied them their salaries, allowances and furniture allowances  were well provided for in the four budgets they passed during the duration of the administration.
