BREAKING: NFF endorses NPFL new season to commence by January 13 (Read Full Statement)

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has advised the League Management Company (LMC) to ensure the commencement of the 2018/2019 season not later than 13th January 2019.

This was contained in a statement the NFF Emergency Committee released on Friday, in reaction to letters received from clubs that qualified for the Super 8 Tournament of the Nigeria National League (NNL) that their teams are depleted and therefore, they do not have enough personnel to prosecute the Super 8 as earlier scheduled, which would have enabled the NPFL to commence on 30th December 2018.

The three clubs that showed up in Aba as directed would each receive a compensation of the sum of N2,000,000 each, while the matter of the five that failed to show up would be referred to the relevant NFF committee to deal with.

The full statement:
Following the directive to the eight clubs qualified for the Super 8 Tournament of the Nigeria National League to proceed to Aba for the tournament, we received letters from clubs to the effect that they presently do not have enough players to prosecute the tournament. Apparently, most clubs in the country’s leagues sign a good number of their players for only one season. These personnel appear to have floated to other clubs in search of greener pastures.

In view of the above, and the contrite tone of their letters, the Emergency Committee has opted to allow the affected clubs two (2) weeks to recruit players to beef up their playing personnel, after which they will then prosecute the Super 8. The NNL should therefore pick new dates not later than 3rd January for the tournament.

In the meantime, the matter relating to the five (5) affected clubs will be referred to the relevant NFF committee to deal with while the three (3) clubs that showed up in Aba as directed will each be paid compensation of the sum of N2,000,000 (Two Million Naira Only).

The League Management Company (LMC) is hereby advised to ensure the commence of the NPFL 2018/2019 season, not later that 13th January 2019.

The registration of candidates by the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board(JAMB) for the 2019 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examinations(UTME) will commence on Thursday, January 10, nationwide.

A total of 718 Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres have been accredited for the purpose across the country.

The Registrar of JAMB, Prof Isha’q Oloyede, disclosed this on Thursday in Lagos, at a stakeholders’ meeting with the owners and managers of accredited CBT centres from across Nigeria.

He said the biometric exercise(which is cashless and strictly online and not offline) would last only six weeks and that candidates should not patronise cybercafe as they are not eligible for registration.

He said the cost of registration remains N3,500 per candidate and no longer N5,500 in line with the federal government’s directive and that CBT centres must adhere strictly to the fee charged and other rules guiding their involvement in the exercise.

While disclosing that CBT centres are also free to charge a maximum of N500 per willing candidate for mock exam ahead of yet-to-be-fixed UTME date, Prof Oloyede, a former Vice-Chancellor of University of Ilorin, said JAMB would not accept the excuse of loss of SIM Card from any of them.

According to him, SIM Card and access code for candidates’ registration are customised for each exam centre and not replaceable under whatever guise.

Revealing that a total of 50 CBT centres which involved in sharp practices last year were sanctioned with more than five of them are now being prosecuted, warning all those participating this year to steer clear of sharp practices.
On malpractice, he said JAMB had devised new mechanisms to forestall the practice.

He said each centre must have to test all its computer systems, power supply and every other thing to ensure they are in order and the process would last seven days beginning from Thursday, December 20.

According to him, no student can do multiple registrations without JAMB detected and each centre must also make use of toilet their facilities and not outside.

The registrar said the essence of all these was to continue to conduct credible UTME in the country.

President Muhammadu Buhari will depart from Abuja, on Tuesday for a one-day official trip to Zinder, the Republic of Niger to participate in the programme of activities marking the 60th anniversary of the formal Proclamation of the Republic of Niger.

At the invitation of President Mahamadou Issoufou, President Buhari will join fellow West African leaders as Special Guest of Honour as Nigeria’s northern neighbour commemorates December 18, 1958, the date of its founding as a Republic and the creation of the Presidency even before it gained complete Independence from France on August 3, 1960.

The participation of the Nigerian leader is in furtherance of the deep historical and cultural relations between the governments and peoples of both friendly nations.

Activities lined up for the celebrations in the ancient south-central town and former capital of Niger which lies 240km north of Kano, include military parade, cultural and artistic displays.

President Buhari will be accompanied by Governors Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, Nasir Ahmad el-Rufai and Adegboyega Oyetola of Jigawa, Kaduna and Osun States, respectively. Also on the delegation is the Minister of State, Foreign Affairs, Khadija Bukar Abba Ibrahim.

In another development, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo will participate in the Africa-Europe High Level Forum with other African and European Heads of States and Government in Vienna, Austria.

Vice President’s spokesman Laolu Akande, in a statement on Monday in Abuja, said the forum was hosted by the Austrian government on behalf of the European Union (EU) and the African Union (AU).

Osinbajo would be speaking on the theme of the forum, ‘Taking Cooperation to the Digital Age’ holding from Dec. 17 to Dec. 18.

According to the organisers in the EU and AU, the forum would promote innovation and digitalisation as important enablers of future development, so that everyone can benefit from the ongoing digital transformation.

It would assess how the partnerships between Africa and Europe contribute to this goal and complement the ongoing implementation of the joint declaration of the 2017 Abidjan Summit between the AU and the EU.

The declaration among other things highlighted the importance of unlocking the potential of the digital economy for Africa and Europe. It also aimed at contributing to the Africa-Europe Alliance for Sustainable Investment and Jobs.

In Vienna, Osinbajo would hold a town-hall meeting with the Nigerian community in Austria; and also attend several bilateral meetings with European government leaders.

Some of the European government leaders are the Prime Minister of Czech Republic, Andrej Babis; Prime Minister of Finland, Juha Sipilä; the Federal Chancellor of Austria, Sebastian Kurz; and the UK Minister for Africa, Harriet Baldwin.

Osinbajo would also meet with top officials of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

Belema oil set to provide jobs for 327 youths; No Skills Required (See Application Process)

An indigenous oil firm, Belema oil, has resolved to partner with National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) to work out modalities for providing employment for 327 youths.

The Chief Executive officer of the firm, Mr Jack Rich Tien, unveiled the plan in a message to the President of NYCN, Amb. Sukubo Saraigbe, in Abuja.

Tien said the company had commenced mobilisation and fact tracking activities in all its locations to provide employment opportunities for three youths in each senatorial district.

He said the company intended to reduce unemployment pressure on the teeming youths in the New Year.

He reported that no skill was required for the jobs, but applicants would be required to provide letters of recommendation from their recognised traditional leaders.

Such letters, he explained, should be addressed to state governors of the applicants, who would in turn forward a corresponding letter of attestation to the federal ministry of labour and employment to ensure fairness in the exercise.

He said that the final letter would be routed by the ministry of labour and employment through the President of NYCN to Belema Oil Limited.

The president of NYCN thanked the company for the plan to provide job opportunities and also do more to promote its corporate social responsibility.

He said that the plan to give N100,000 to more than 2,500 widows was worth emulating by other companies.

President Buhari approves the reduction in the cost of Forms for JAMB UTME, NECO SSCE and Basic Education Certificate Examination JAMB from N5,000 to N3,500, NECO from N11,350, to N9,850.

The annual JS1 National Common Entrance Examination conducted by the National Examination Council for pupils in primary 5 or 6 is highly competitive and many pupils fail to secure admission due to poor preparations.

Introduction:
The National Common Entrance Examination is made up of two papers; Paper I and Paper II

Paper I
The paper I is called Achievement Test. It comprises of Part A; Mathematics and Basic Science and Part B; English Studies and Social Studies.

Paper II
The paper II is called Aptitude Test. It comprises of Part A; Quantitative Aptitude and Vocational Aptitude and Part B; Verbal Aptitude.


Subjects Structure
The subjects structure for National Common Entrance Examination are in line with the newly revised Middle Basic Education Curriculum for Primary 4 to 6 as released by the National Educational Research and Development Council (NERDC). Summary of themes covered in each subject are highlighted below:
