Majority of pregnant ladies will gladly grab the opportunity to give birth in the USA because of the ample advantages it has. And aside the high delivery fees ($5000 and above) which people invest to get the good life for their children, getting a place to stay is usually a challenge. For those who can't afford extended stay hotels and who are of the opinion that it is not good for a pregnant woman to stay alone, they have had to stay with friends or relatives. Stories abound on what they face in the hands of these people who are supposed to be very close to them. Let's share our experiences, good or bad; then let people who have been there give us helpful tips on how to best manage the situations or what the alternatives can be. Yes, endurance is important and perhaps the best option, but let's consider how the mental health of the mother reflects on the unborn child now and in the future and let's come up with practical steps to remedy unpleasant situations. |
babysykes: ure so right! I hav stayed with relatives during my previous visits to the us and now that I'm preg and ready to give birth,I decided to rent @ intown suites because I need my sanitySee, ehn, this is another matter entirely. We should open another thread for it because I'm sure lots of people will have stories to share. I wish I had insisted on not feeling comfortable with staying with my hubby. My story is more complicated because I am due end of March, then add the extra 6 weeks I'm supposed to stay after delivery. Like my people will say, "my own don meet me". I need to look for a way to keep my sanity too. |
nenih: @solidhomes, you really made me laugh. Anyway its just for a few weeks. My sister, it's not funny o, especially when in order to beat PoE I came in at 26 weeks. You see that I still have a long way to go. And my hosts constantly insinuates that their house is the best place I can stay here. I really need to come up with a way to keep my sanity. |
krafty iyk: YOUR MAN OF GOD THAT BUILD SCHOOLS YOU CAN'T AFFORD, MCHEEWWWWWWW..I HISS.Yes, he built schools, with tithes, pledges and offerings contributed by people who know Whom they believe and serve, who are blessed in all their dealings and so can afford to send their children to these schools. I am careful not to incur the wrath of some special people here, but let me quickly tell you that those who can't afford to send their children to these schools can lay claim to probably less than 5 per cent of what it takes to build such schools. And sadly, their cries are the loudest. Methink that if only they will stop finding faults in what "men of God" do or say and spend more of their time to dig into the principles of sowing and reaping and how to tap into the blessings of God which is rightly their inheritance, they will also be able to afford these schools. |
chiomy8: Hello guys,I just joined this forum & thought I should share my own experience.first everyone on this thread has being awesome,I got all the tips I wanted on dis thread, how to answer US visa questions & researched alot on d internet and everything paid off with serious 21 days fasting & dressed smartly, wit all smiles.God did it.I am currently in d US precisely California because of their lovely weather with my two kids.i wld b due in march,we flew via lufthansa in dec to avoid unnecessary port of entry wahala, stoped at Frankfurt then L.A,on arrival I bought this oversized winter jacket from balogun market in lagos,d officer at d point of entry didn't find out about my pregnancy and d kids helped to distract him a little,my luggages where not checked at all & I had loads of food stuffs, except palm oil. I have gotten a very affordable hospital here, dey accept test from nigeria and lots more.I rented an apartment as staying wit dis American relatives aint funny, especially wen u ve kids with u,but d number one killer of the whole thing is boredom, they all work so hard & dont ve time to really want to take u around unless dey re on their off days.above all every other thing is great.pls expectant mums avoid point of entries dat are known for harsh treatment.wishing everyone coming good luck & a happy new year. You are so right about how they work and the attitude of our so-called Naija relatives living in America. It's been really really boring here. And I wish my hubby had refused when his friend (whom he last saw 13 years ago) offered me accommodation and said I should not rent an extended stay apartment. I've been here 3 weeks now and I've had to put up with all sorts of rude statements. When I complained about cold few days ago, my host's wife said I was weak and asked if I was sure my mother bathe and massaged my body with hot water when I was a baby. |
zanyzara: @solidhomes@Zany, thanks again. I have called Dr. Gilbert Sayegh and got an appointment fixed for the 9th of January. His fees are: 1. Normal delivery - $2000 2. Prenatal visit - $320 3. Ultrasound - $150 4. Other tests - $275 5. Postpartum - $160 6. Hospital fees - $2500 Total is $5405. He uses WHMC too. The Nigerian doctor I got from the St. Catherine Hospital website is cheap too: 1. Normal delivery - $1920 2. Initial visit - $300 3. Hospital fees - $2150 4. Laboratory - $240 Total is $4610, but there are other charges like $500 for circumcision and $800 for Anaesthesia. Spending extra 2 days in the hospital will also cost $380. I would have preferred the Nigerian doctor but he uses Oakbend Medical Centre and I heard it's far from where I am staying (over one hour drive). Anyway, I'll see Dr. Sayegh on the 9th and make my decision. And off way please, Richmond, Texas has been cold and very boring, especially because I have to depend on my host to move around. No buses and cabs are few and very expensive. It's beginning to feel like prison day after day. Are there people in the house who are around Richmond, Texas? Maybe we should form our own El Paso Birth Club here o. Happy new year to us all. It will be a year of the manifestation of God's goodness in every area of our lives. |

Please does anyone know a trusted website where I can bid to buy good and cheap phones? I am presently in the US and want to use the opportunity to get phones to sell when I return to Nigeria early next year. I'll also appreciate if I can get tips on the kind of phones to buy that will sell well in Nigeria/ |
zanyzara: @solidhomesThanks, very plenty. I'll call the numbers on Monday. I got the number of a Yoruba doctor from the St. Catherine Hospital website. And fortunately, he took the delivery of my host's last two children. I called him but got a voicemail that his office opens only Monday - Friday. I'll also call him and give a feedback here. |
Hello, house, I am presently at West Houston Memorial Hospital to see a Dr. Wolfhart. He said hospital fees will increase from $2,500 to whatever by January 2014, and he is charging $3,500 for normal delivery which will include scans and all blood tests. He is giving a discount of 10 per cent on the doctor's fees if we pay cash before delivery. Please I want to know if anyone got a cheaper doctor's fees at WHMC, and if possible, can someone please recommend a doctor to me? I plan to check St. Catherine Hospital in Katy today too. I'll give a feedback on how that goes too. Wish all of us a great weekend. |
hardeymijuh: @Solidhomes,Thanks so so plenty. The tips you gave were helpful and added to our confidence. How is Madam doing? |
favored gal: Congrats @ solid homesThanks. And a big Amen. It was just a repeat of the questions the first officer asked us: Do we know anyone in Texas? Why did we change from Florida to Texas? Where do we plan to stay and for how long? Can he see our hotel booking? How much cash do we have? Where are we visiting in Texas? |
Greetings to everyone! I've got some good news to share. Hubby and I got into Houston on Tuesday morning. Our PoE was Atlanta and we were interviewed by a black officer. He only asked what we were in the US for and we answered holiday. He asked why Texas and we said it's because it's relatively not as cold as other US States. During the visa interview in Lagos, we said we would be going to Florida, Orlando. He asked us about this change too and hubby said it's because we got a cheaper ticket to Texas, but we would still be going to Florida after two weeks in Texas. He also asked us about places we intend to see in Texas and hubby said we have not made up our minds yet as we would be resting in the hotel for most part of the first week. He asked about our places of work too. Then he took our fingerprints and asked a lady to take us to a waiting room. After few minutes, my hubby was called away. He was interviewed by another officer for almost 20mins and that got me very scared; especially because I thought I was going to be interviewed alone too. But to God be the glory, hubby came back with our bag and said we were free to go with 6months stay stamped on our passports. I am about 25 weeks pregnant and not showing at all so we were not even asked anything about it. We are now at a friend's place in Texas and mehn, it is very very cold. Our friend will be taking us round later to check out hospitals and pick out the best option. I wish everyone who is still planning to make this trip God's favour and grace. Big thanks to hardemijuh for his help and also to everyone here. God bless us all. |
fatwallet: my point is that you should give birth in Nigeria and you stop lying to immigration and fraudulent schemes and taking advantage of the American system. Is that a very difficult thing to do?Is Nigeria that bad?Now you have spoken! But what if one can afford it, tells the truth at the US embassy and at the point of entry? Will you still say it's better to deny one's child the chance at a better life? Would you rather pay 500 Thousand Naira to give birth in a good hospital in Nigeria and stand the risk of losing your wife or baby to negligence or the lackadaisical attitude of our Nigerian healthcare providers? Or would you prefer to pay a million naira in the US at a far lesser risk? |
kofsy: At least someone will eventually accept my bribe? The best thing would have been to completely ignore the frustrated thing... |
satellitedaisy: Not D-banj sister(Taiwo). She looks horribleShe looks good in a cool and calm way. Let the other ladies remove the bags of brown cement and buckets of different colours of paints on their faces, then check the difference. I see Taiwo as one who is conservative in her dressing, and even lifestyle. It shows she was not exposed to the Naija celebrity life before she got married. I'm sure that now that invites to big events may start rolling in for her, she'll change her dress style to fit each occasion. But then, still don't expect to see her face in rainbow colours or have a free showing of what Dotun probably didn't get to see till he said "I DO". Moreover, her hubby is proudly flaunting what he got. Count how many of your so-called lovely girls present at the wedding whose loveliness and Sewn-in-Italy attires are yet to get them husbands. |
Just saved a boy from his sister (both are in their early teens) who was beating him violently with a stick and kicks to his groin and stomach for damaging his earphone. |
Enyeama. If not for him, the final scores would have been something close to 6 - 2. #runsofftograbopaquegoggles |
Top of the day to everyone here! Please I'll like to know how soon after delivery one can travel back to Nigeria. I need this info to help choose my travel dates. Thanks in advance for helpful responses. |

hardeymijuh: My agent arranged the ticket, it had the same exit date from lag but different return date.Thanks. Well understood. I got your email from one of your posts. I'll send you a mail now to ask for the agent's details. Thanks again. Mail sent. |
hardeymijuh: @ All,Congrats on your entry. God will make every other thing, especially your wife's delivery, easy in Jesus name. Please can you tell me more about how you got the dummy ticket? And was it in Atlanta you had the issue with immigration or at Houston? Your response will be highly appreciated. |

Please I need to know if I am living in a fool's world. I've been told severally not to bother myself about a cheating husband because it is very normal men to cheat, but I never seem to be able to bear it when I find out my hubby has been having an extra-marital affair. I have tried to talk myself out of feeling very bad but it has never worked for me. Is expecting total faithfulness from one's hubby too much to ask for? And if it is, I need to know practical ways to get over the feeling of hurt and betrayal. Or better, tips to lock up every feeling inside of me and just relate with him like a roommate whom I just owe some duties. |
