Even if/when he successfully rallies SW-SE-SS....assuming he's able to do so.....Tinubu's new political contrivance will still need to ally with strong NE-NW-NC elements to have nationally acceptable candidates for the centre under the current governance structure. Otherwise, he and his new imagined behemot political party will remain southern regional at best.
This signposts that we need all parts from all zones to work together effectively to change direction of political course at national level.
The aternative to the above would be a heavy precipitation and acceleration of regional agenda a.k.a true federalism in which the centre is weakend and rendered minimally attractive, while the regions are strenghthened and become very viable for expression of political sagacity.
Even true federalism requires all zones to be alligned and resolute in demand for it, the chances of making it happen is higher than that of southern 'gang-up' to 'deal' with the north as a bloc under unitary-federalist arrangement.
If worked at with tact and focus on 'life more abundant for all peoples', I forsee high possibility of the six geopolitical zones aligning to create a new political dynamics called 'True Federalism'
This to me, is a more viable political agenda for Tinubu and other leaders of thoughts across Nigeria to pursue in the days/months/years ahead.

Tinubu is super crafty but national politics is something far complex, brutal and lethal

The abuja power brokers are on a planned attack to cut Tinubu to size and I won't be surprised if they Rig aketi in to sound it clear who is boss

Tinubu somewhat fell for Buhari"s antics of being apolitical, who would give him free hand to cart away the spoils of victory; but buhari like a cunny fox played along and now when no when expected attacks systematically.

Tinubu's latest reaction to Saraki"s major release from the court wahala, which was pursued deliberately by the Abuja tink tank to pacify Tinubu, has no effect on these ruthless mafia

The trust is lost; these are mind games. They expect tinubu to read the signs that he can't be in abuja what he is in Lagos and Osun

Tinubu's best place is with this alliance with the North, as the SS/SE won't be in a hurry to team up with him even of he offers to join the chorus for resource control...though tempting they would rather Tinubu to deal with the proverbial lizards that come visiting after he brought home ant-infested gays

In my opinion, i think Tinubu has a grand plan against the north for 2019. He will align with the SS/SE and make sure we wrestle power from the north who believes they are born to rule. Nobody can keep Tinubu in check. He has fought and won several political battles. I trust him to lure fhe the southeast with igbo presidency to gain their co-operation. Will he flaunt another party? Time will tell

The story of the year:

Kon dropped out of sec. school. Athough a very bright student one thing or the other made him leave school. His boyhood friend Terfa however managed to go on with his studies,  and at a time when it wasnt easy to make a Division A, in WAEC, Terfa did.

He won a scholarship to study abroad and left for London where he did a first and postgraduate degree, crowning it with a Ph.D in Aeronautic  Engineering.

He was a hot cake and had his pick of jobs abroad. Time passed and Kon forgot about his friend Terfa.

Kon married, had 5 kids, and was in the village suffering.

One fateful day he went to the market in Zaki-Biam. As he made to cross the road, an oncoming car sreeched to a stop, pulled over to the kerb and stopped. A well dressed man stepped out, shouting his name. If not for the familiarity of the man's features and voice, Kon would have ran away but something made him to stop and walk back towards the car.

He bent respectfully and greeted the man standing beside the well-polished car. Scattex, is this you? The car owner enquired, calling Kon's nickname, way back in his secondary school days.

It all came back, he hadn't heard that name for decades, taking a closer look he discovered this was his one and only friend from way back - Terfa!

He took 2 steps back and shouted, boliskoko d jah!(terfa's nickname)
Is this u?
What are u doing here?

Pleasantries over,
kon narrated his ordeal to Terfa who was actually in a hurry heading back to Lagos  to catch a flight the next day back to London, he had no time. He pulled from his glove compartment a Union Bank Cheque Booklet, wrote a cheque of N5mil, handed it over to his friend and zoomed off.

In the euphoria, Kon did not even ask for Terfa's address, there was no GSM then so no phone numbers were exchanged either. Of course Kon could read the words on the cheque well, he quickly left the market and went home to tell the wife and leave for Union Bank at Gboko to cash the cheque.
He called his wife inside and told her what had happened n he proceeded to tell her his intentions about the money:

He would give her 500k to start her business

While;

He would build a house

Expand his yam farm

...n then lastly, he will marry a 2nd_wife to help on the farm!

The wife heard nothing except two words:

 'second wife' .

Enraged beyond words, she grabbed the cheque from the husband, chewed n swallowed it!

Solanke Vs Benson: A Lifetime Story Of Tradition, Love, And Hatred

It was probably the first celebrated case where a daughter will defy her father in the choice of marriage. It was in the days when a woman, educated or not, really had no say on the choice of who she marries. But this 18 year old daughter of a very affluent Yoruba chief defied her father’s choice of husband. The father had chosen a prominent politician of those days, Chief TOS Benson, a dashing and flamboyant politician, to marry his stunningly beautiful daughter, Folake Odulate. But she would have none of that. Rather, she would go on to marry her heartthrob, Toriola Solanke, a medical doctor whom she fondly called a “gentleman”.

But suitor Benson would not give up, a decision which led to a case of arrest and a charge of robbery against the prominent politician at the Old Bailey, in London. It was a trial on which eminent Nigerian jurist and Justice of the Supreme Court, the late Justice Kayode Eso , wrote: “The legal drama, as it was, at the awe inspiring Old Bailey, is so vividly presented that it should not be missed by any lawyer, law student or, indeed, any reader at all.”

Thus began one of the greatest stories of marriage scandal in the pre, and post independent Nigeria. It was the story of a love affair, a story of clash of culture between modernity and tradition in terms of marriage rites. It poses the question, do women have the right to choose whom to marry, or should they abide with whoever the parents choose? It is the story of a young woman who stood stoically and chose who to love, and equally stood by that love to the very end. It is the story of Chief Mrs. Folake Solanke, the first woman to defy tradition, and the first woman Senior Advocate of Nigeria. It is also the story of passion, of lifetime hatred only love can bring.

Perhaps, if the chance meeting had not occurred at the lowest ebb of her life, the story may have been different. Her family had just lost a brother, the first born of the family who had sojourned in England for several years. Dr. Albert Olukoya Odulate had died within two weeks of his coming back to Nigeria after qualifying as a Medical Doctor in England. She was in the vehicle that claimed his life and so, she was still very distraught. The accident that would change the course of her family happened on January 30, 1948.

Amongst the sympathizers who came to console her father was TOS Benson, who cited this very beautiful and fair lady, and decided to add her to his harem. Thus began the discussion with Pa Jacob Odulate(Blessed Jacob of the Alabunkun fame) on how Chief Benson can marry the young Folake Odulate.

The young lady years after will later write: “In our collective state of trauma and vulnerability, Benson, became known to the family as a sympathizer, willing to comfort my distraught father in his anguish. The great Roman poet, Virgil had warned, “Timeo Graecos dona ferentes”.

And so by 1950, talks were rife between the Bensons and the Odulates about the arranged marriage. By 1951, the two families met, and did engagement but the young woman refused to see the meeting which was supposed to give her hand in marriage as what it was- her marriage ceremony. That same year as fate would have it, she travelled to England, which provided a means of escape for her.

Immediately she got to London, she wrote to Benson to the effect that he should count her out of the arranged marriage. She said: “I thought very deeply about my future. I came to a firm decision that the talk between Papa and Benson about an arranged marriage could never be for me. Benson was much older and already married with children. My preference was for a monogamous marriage”. About a year after, Folake met the love of her life, Toriola Feisitan Solanke, and by October 6, 1956, they were married.

But Benson would have none of that. Unfortunately for him however, the pretty bird had flown far away to where his hand and influence cannot reach. Six years after however, an opportunity presented itself for Benson, who at that time had become the Chief Whip of the Nigerian Parliament and was a member of delegation to London to discuss the Independence of Nigeria,

In the midst of this serous assignment, Benson arranged with a cousin of Folake (now Mrs Solanke) to lure her to his (cousin’s) house where he hoped to talk sense into her. So on May 25, 1957, Folake paid a visit to her cousin in a house on Flander’s Road, Chiswich, London, where to the shock of her life, Benson; her old suitor came in just after she arrived. Benson tried to convince her that she should marry him but she told him “no”.

She said: “I told him quite categorically, in the presence of Afolabi (cousin), what I had been telling him, my father, and others for six years, that I could never marry him. As he still refuse to take no for an answer, I told him that I was already married. Benson said he did not care about my marital status and that he would do everything to destroy my husband and I in Nigeria”.

The Parliamentarian did not stop at that. He took his luck farther. She further narrated on the incident: “As soon as Afolabi left the room, I got up from my chair to leave the room, but suddenly, Benson grabbed my left hand and started trying to remove my engagement ring by force. I struggled as hard as I could, but he overpowered me and violently forced my engagement ring off my finger. In the course of the assault, my open-ended gold bracelet wristwatch also came off my wrist;

My gold engagement ring had two had two diamonds set on either side of a blue sapphire. I pleaded with him to return my ring and wristwatch to me, but he flatly refused. He then put the two items in one of the pockets in his flowing Agbada. Benson locked the door and kept the key in one of his numerous pockets”.

Desperate to escape the assault, Folake did the unthinkable. “There was no way I was going to remain in that apartment, which for me had suddenly become a place of violence and unlawful detention. After all my pleas had failed to recover my precious possessions from him, and with the door locked against me, I reached for the telephone to dial 999. Benson promptly disabled the telephone. Instinctively, I made for the window to jump out”.

It was at this point Benson knew the lady meant business. He called her cousin who promptly came into the room and both persuaded her to come back. This was the opportunity she had to escape from the apartment and further assault. But Benson held on to her ring and wristwatch.

Mrs Solanke, after this experience reported the case to the police. On June 1, 1957, the London Metropolitan police arrested Benson and arraigned him before Acton Magistrate Court, London, for stealing a ring and a watch valued at Forty one pounds from a woman. In the warrant of arrest, he was alleged to have forcibly robbed Mrs. Solanke of her watch and ring on May 25. He was however granted bail with two sureties. However, the court ordered a remand for two weeks, which meant he could not leave London in that period.

On Saturday June 15, 1957, the case went on trial at the Magistrate Court to determine whether Benson had a case to answer. The Prosecutor was Victor Duran QC and he called two witnesses, the police investigating officer, and Mrs. Solanke. At the end of the pre-trial, the court decided that the defendant had a case to answer and thereafter transferred the case to the London Central Criminal Court, popularly known as “Old Bailey”.

The two day trial commenced on June 27, 1957, before Sir Gerald Dodson, who also doubled as the Recorder of London. There was a jury of 12 persons to determine the case. When his charges were read to him, he pleaded not guilty. The Prosecution lawyer, Mr. Durand thereafter presented the investigating police officer, Mr. Philips, to the witness box. Philips tendered the written statement of the plaintiff to the court, together with plaintiff’s engagement ring as exhibits.

Next in line to enter the witness box was the plaintiff herself. She was led in evidence by Mr Durand. She narrated how the assault took place and how the defendant forcefully removed her engagement ring and wristwatch. She also told the court how she got married secretly to her husband, Toriola, on October 6, 1956. She further told the court that she had told the defendant and her father the she could not marry the defendant as far back as in 1951 and that she was never interested in the proposed arranged marriage. The plaintiff’s husband, Dr Solanke also gave evidence, corroborating his wife’s evidence.

The defendant then gave his own evidence. He denied that he forcefully removed the plaintiff’s engagement ring and wristwatch. He told the court that it was the plaintiff who gave him the ring to return to her father. He also told the court how he gave the plaintiff a cheque containing money for her education.

The defendant through his lawyer, Mr. Foot called 12 witnesses that represented the crème de la crème of Nigerian politics. They include; the late Chief H.O Davies, the late Chief Adeniran Ogunsanya, and the then Nigerian High Commissioner to Britain, Chief M.T Mbu. The greatest shock however, was bringing the plaintiff’s father, Chief Jacob Odulate to the court. The father testified against his daughter!

The courtroom was packed full with Nigerians as the story also hit the headlines of newspapers both in London and Lagos. The plaintiff gave the account thus: “There were also others who came simply to hurl abuses and curses and threats at me. The unprintable taunting and vituperation did not elicit one single response from me. I held my head high and the police gave me every protection”.

After the trial, the judge adjourned the case to July 1, 1957, the date the court eventually discharged and acquitted the defendant.

But the battle did not end there. Chief Benson never forgave Folake Solanke for not marrying him. He taunted her at every opportunity. He made every move to stifle her career in the legal profession, all to no avail. Even when she lost her husband, he hired a band to taunt her, saying that he, an old man had outlived her husband. Until his own death, Chief Benson never forgot, and never forgave the bride he lost to someone else.

Religion / Amplified Chatterings Before And After Moslem Call To Prayer/worship by solok: 2:46pm On Sep 26, 2016
Pls I need education/enlightenment from Nairalanders who are knowledgeable about Islamic call to praye/worship.
In my local community (one of the SW states) the CDA exco of which I am a member received strong complaints from members who feel highly disturbed by the persistent noise emanating from megaphones mounted atop the bungalow-building mosque in our neighbourhood.
Whereas, they claim to have come to terms with the amplified call to prayers five times a day, the big challenge for them is the megaphoned loud chatterings before and after the actual call to prayers.
Some of the chatterings goes like: 'alhaji Ganiyu, otun adini, e dide e wa kirun' iya sunnah an reti yin e se kanman'. And also some really slurry chanting of what I think are quranic verses by sleepy teenager-apprentice imam.
The matter is threatening to create serious friction in the otherwise calm neighbourhood.
My question is:
In line with sunnah or hadith (I understand these are the ways/lifestyles of Prophet Mohammed..peace be on to him...which His followers have universally accepted as standards), what is the requirement for call to prayers? Must it be preceeded and/or followed with chatterings and praise singing of prominent moslems in the neighbourhood? If so, must such be done via the megaphones?
I like to know so I can meaningfuly contribute to solution building at the exco or gen meeting of CDA.
As said earlier, I want Mullahs, Ustaz, Immams on this platform to share knowledge in that aspect of the Islam religion with me...or better still point me to authoritative literatures I can research for credible answers.

Typical of your ilk; uncouth, abussive, doddgy!!
Address the issue raised!
Even if you don't have any cogent/concrete example for now, give instances/examples of how Yorubas are being consciously integrated in Igboland....how many have direct shop allocation from govt, how many are chairmen of CDA or landlord associations, how many CofO applications by Yoruba names have been granted in the last 10yrs?
Contextualise all these by checking them against similar accross Yorubaland - SouthWest.

Politics / Ojukwu's Letter To Victor Banjo - Biafra Offer Of Help To West by solok: 9:43am On Sep 25, 2016
LETTER FROM LT.COL. OJUKWU TO LT. COL.BANJO

22nd AUGUST 1967

From: The Military Governor,

Republic of Biafra Enugu,

22nd August, 1967.

My dear Victor,

1. For some time now, you and I have been discussing the circumstances that have led to the current and inevitable disintegration of what was the Federation of Nigeria. We have been fully convinced that the aim of the Hausa/Fulani complex has ever been, and will ever remain, the total domination of every other part of what was known as the Federation of Nigeria. It is impossible to forget that the crisis which led to the army take over in January 1966, the coup of the Northern soldiers led by Gowon in July 1966, the wholesale and indiscriminate massacre of the people of what is now Biafra- and, to a less degree, the people of the Mid-West and West, including the Yorubas, were all the direct result of Hausa/Fulani attempt to subjugate and use as tools, the gallant people of Western Nigeria namely the Yorubas. We do not need to remind ourselves of the heavy losses in life and property suffered by the Yoruba people in their fight for justice and freedom during 1965.

2. Sharing.our belief that the people of Yorubaland have a right to live a life of equality and self-respect and justice free of domination and dictatorship from any quarter, you have both identified with the cause of the Biafra struggle for survival and expressed your determination to see the people of Yorubaland freed from Hausa/Fulani domination.

We, the people of Biafra, for our part are willing and have decided to give you and the people of Yorubaland every assistance to achieve your aim.

3. After clearing the whole question with my Executive Council, I, as the Commander in Chief of the Biafran Armed Forces, have decided to place at your disposal Biafran forces, for the liberation of

Yorubaland on the following clear conditions:-

(i) You will have nothing to do with the Military Administrator in the Mid-West Territory during your sojourn there prior to your move to the West.

(ii) The willingness and preparedness of Biafra to assist any part of the former Federation of Nigeria wishing and willing to liberate itself from the Hausa/Fulani domination, does not in anyway whatever

imply any inclination on her part to compromise her sovereignty or preserve what remains of the defunct Federation of Nigeria. In other words, our sovereignty and break with Nigeria is irrevocable. Nothing must, therefore be said or done by you or any member of the Liberation Army to give a contrary impression.

(iii) Biafra is determined to maintain and safeguard her sovereignty and ensure that her integrity and safety are never again threatened.

(iv) Biafran troops will, after the liberation of the Yorubaland, remain in that territory only for as long as we in Biafra consider it necessary for the Yorubas to consolidate their position and sovereignty against any external threat.

(v) On the liberation of the Yorubaland, you will be appointed as the Military Governor of that territory.

(vi) The liberation of Western Nigeria will be a prelude to the liberation of all Yorubas up to the River Niger and the severance of all connections between the West and the North at Jebba.

(vii) During the period of Biafrans troops’ presence in your territory, all political measures, statements or decrees shall be subject to the approval, in writing by myself or on my authority.

(viii) Should our troops arrive and liberate Lagos, the government of the Republic of Biafra reserves the right to appoint a Military administrator for the territory. Such an Administrator will remain in office until a merger of that territory with Yorubaland is effected by Biafran troops.

(ix) As soon as possible after your appointment as the Military Governor of Western Nigeria and separation of that territory from Nigeria, you and I must meet to discuss:

(a) the duration of stay of Biafran troops in your territory;

(b) the areas and subjects of cooperation between the liberated sovereign states of Western Nigeria, or by what name it may call itself, and Biafra.

4. I do not need to remind you that Biafra regards all Yoruba as friends. As such everything should be done, to ensure the minimum force and loss of life are involved in achieving the objective of liberation.

5. It is essential, in order to avoid misunderstanding or confusion, that all subsequent requests for support be formally made to me by you in writing.

6. Will you please signify in writing, your acceptance of the above conditions so that you may leave for Western Nigeria and lead the army of liberation.

Yours very sincerely,

signed Lt. Col. Odumegwu Ojukwu,

Military Governor and Commander in Chief of Biafran Armed Forces.

The Army as a statutory organisation should please do an autopsy to scientifically probe the cause of death. Doing so will not only be in line with international best practice, it will also go a long way to forstall any similar sudden/premature deaths lurking in the institution.

And though her Doctors and Exercise instructors were telling her she was unhealthy, she was showing people the scale and showing how she had grown from 50KG to 150KG and using that to prove that she was healthy and doing fine.. cool
Look the pishor again...closely and on zoom...you go see say even at dat time, she nor be lepa at all! She was plump and womanly for that age. Check up her chubby cheeks and matronly knees! But her bobo...ehn! That one na slim gongo! Check out his neck...long and thin, and the belly...flat and concave.

Pretty poses and pictuures. Lovely well fitting shirt too, very ok for the boobs size and condition....no obscene 'spillage' or 'peeping out'
Mask on face a.k.a. Mascara howeever too heavy! Made the face tone/texture unreal and gareta-like...reminds one of the masks worn by ojuju calabar or the Etsako masquerades. Its more vivid when compared/contrasted with tone/texture on exposed back of hand which is quite lovely and natural.
In semmary, you are pretty, but go easier on the face mask. Linda's mentorship in that regard can help. cheesy *)

;DHe is 'ahun' jare! O bu Akagum!
By doing this 'unthinkable' he denied a lowly hustling wo/man opportunity to earn daily bread. He didn't allow the economy to move round. He stopped the naira value chain at his pocket!
Yeye akagum! grin

Laudable development certainly! But remember, Awolowo had done it before! Cattle slaughtered and dressed the evening before in Bauchi arrived Ido Railway Station, Lagos in refridgerated coaches by 6am...just in time for dealers and wheelers from all parts of Lagos and environs to have them on butchers' tables from Ido to Agege and every market in between.
The coaches return along with those carrying building materials, textiles etc to Bauchi to enable market men and women have commodities ready ffor market activities early the next day. It was a special express train service.
I wish this govt will look up the national development master plans prepared by our immediate post-independence national leaders

Such a big shame that the President had to give 'marching order' for IGP to do the needful here!
Is there no CEO or cabinet-ranking person(s) in charge of the IDP rehab scheme? Have they not demonstrated poor grasp of things by not taking prompt action to stop the criminal looting and /or diversion??
This further underscores the widely held perception that PMB administration as a team is not serious about the fight against corruption....its just sloganeering with only PMB himself in delusion.
Very sad indeed!!
