skidmarkz: Bro Solomon, while staying in Canada for total of 730 days in 5 years, during those period, does he/she has to work so he/she can contribute such as: tax to the government of Canada?
Thx There's no obligation on his part other than to be a law abiding citizen, pay his tax if he has income (from outside of Canada) that falls under assessable tax. If he doesn't want to work, he has a right but that doesn't come cheaply too. |

yokus: Hi everyone inhouse. Quick question I am positively hopeful and curious. Awaiting MER but i just wanted ask. Once one lands. How early can one leave. I am asking because it seems my hubby is not interested in staying there for long but i intend to cos i want the best for the kids. Even though i feel he would get a job easily because of his experience So how early can he leave and how often does he need to return to maintain his PR status. Also Solomonwis, Damkollins what province would u advice we move too. he was a banker for 14yrs and now into Construction. I am a Lawyer. Thanks in advance for your answers Once he lands, he has fulfilled his part and completed the application process as permanent resident (Yes application is incomplete until after landing!),he can leave for Nigeria although if he doesn't want to lose his permanent residency, he must observe the below: Time spent living in Canada
When you are a permanent resident, you can live outside of Canada, but must live in Canada for at least two years in a five-year period. If you live outside of Canada for longer, you may lose your permanent resident status. http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/newcomers/about-pr.aspAs a lawyer, you will do well in Ontario as that's the hub of business in Canada. British Columbia especially Vancouver, will not be a bad idea if you are into commercial law. In general, you should be looking at Toronto, Calgary, Edmonton, Vancouver, Montreal in Quebec (if you can speak French),Saskatoon, Regina, etc are some of the best places for lawyers and you know what? Lawyers are some of the people earning big bucks now in Canada. |

skidmarkz: I am Indonesian currently working in S'pore. What about you?
Which city in Canada is the best for looking a job as a civil engineer? Well, it all depends on you. Depends on your occupation, depends on the funds that you carry with you for settlement, depends on ability to withstand the "harshest" windy weather. A lot of factors go into settlement really. If you're in the financial service sector I would say, ceteris paribus, stay in Toronto (and by extension Ontario) but it doesn't come cheaply. If you are into Engineering, I would say Alberta is the place for you. If you are into manufacturing and mining I would say come to Saskatchewan. That is not to rule out the fact that you can survive in any of the provinces if you got the zeal and the perseverance. As a civil engineer, you should be looking at Calgary or St. Alberta but be prepared to spend more for accommodation and upkeep even though the in Alberta is only 5% GST. |

aireal: I am kinda new here...
This is really confusing as age is telling on man, I am on a contract job of 80k per month plus food and transport allowance. Now i have a visiting visa to Canada. Is it advisable to go knowing the fact that my job is not secured once I travel.
Few years ago, I was earning more than that only to travel out on a visiting visa to Malaysia which I was able to extend to 2 years, I came back after 8 months, the place is not meant for people like me, I regret my sojourn then, now I have another opportunity to travel to Canada with visiting visa, which means I will lose the job and I cant overstay a visiting visa. Whats the best option to take? I need street advice and honest advice pls. Your post seems to be insinuating that you intend travelling using a visit visa to seek greener pasture. Don't make your Canadian journey end like that of Malaysia. A visit visa is what it is, it remains a visit visa. Visit Canada and return to your country. If you like what you see in Canada or you feel it's a place to migrate to, please go through the right, legal channel. |

Sleekjaguar: Hello Guys,
Been expecting my PER email (FSWC Nov 2014) after Debit Card dedcuction since Jan 29, 2015 but none so far. Just checked my forms (copies) and noticed that I omitted my email address in the "Contact Information" section of my generic IMM0008 form. I've sent an email (with fee payment proof, barcode pages and Intl. passport attached) explaning this omission to the case specific website 'https://secure.cic.gc.ca/enquiries-renseignements/case-cas-eng.aspx?mission=accra&_ga=1.73416146.1512738845.1403084063' using their enquiry form. Allso sent another email to 're-accra.immigration@international.gc.ca' about this. For those who have gotten theirs or with experience, do you know of anyone present or past that got theirs through regular mail? Just want to know if this action is sufficient?
I'll appreciate any valuable info on this. Please send the same mail to cio-sydney-search-enquiry@cic.gc.ca |

S 7 - CLB 9 - 6points L 7 - CLB 6 - 4points R 8 - CLB 9 - 6points W 6 - CLB 6- 4points Language points = 20 points Education (MSc.)= 23 points Age (18-35years)= 12 points Experience (2-3yrs)= 11 points Total points for EE = 66 points I realized there wasn't any grid for 3-4 yrs while 13 points was awarded for 4-5yrs experience. While Nova Scotia awarded 12points for 3 years experience. I wish the EE has 3-4 yrs grid as 12pts. You are still missing the point. You are calculating using the old grid. rasaqdayo: I was really amazed after reading through this thread that the gurus here are offering professional answers to queries selflessly while lots of immigration services out there would charge for such. Thanks to you all. I would like to seek your recommendation on the options of immigrating to work in Canada based on my profile. Age - 27 Education - B.Tech (Chem. Eng.),M.Sc ( Energy Studies) Work Experience - 3 yr 3m (Plant Engr - Manufacturing) IELTS - 7.0 (W 6, S 7, L 7, R 8 )
I am waiting for WES presently. I am aware that my occupation is regulated and would require a license. After some research, I believe Nova Scotia Engineer Association could assess and process an EIT probably in 3 months while APEGS (Sask) claimed that applications could take a year. That I believe would enable me to apply for NSPNP this year. While I calculated my points as 67 for NSPNP, it is just 66 under CIC Express Entry because of a point difference in the work experience grid point between the two programs. I will humbly seek any correction, if any, in my calculation and advice on my application. I don't mind suggestions on other provincial programs. Thanks in advance. Your score points under Express Entry couldn't have been 66! You most probably didn't calculate well or you didn't make use of the right tool. Please use this tool (link) to calculate your score points http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/skilled/language-tool.asp |

Am about to apply to WES for my ECA, do I need to send all my certificate from Bsc, ICAN certificate, MBA certificate for evaluation or most recent qualification, I want to avoid the stress of getting transcript of my Bsc certificate. You can send in your MBA certificate alone while you request your educational institution to forward your transcripts directly. The idea is to evaluate the highest qualification which in turn earn you the highest score points. |

labiola: Thank you guys for the great work you are doing. I and my wife with our 3 children are planning to relocate to Canada, am a chartered accountant, I have MBA, BSc, with over 10yrs working experience and my wife is a Radiographer, she also has PGD with over 7yrs working experience. Kindly advise who should be the principal applicant between both of us. will my qualification increase our chances if my wife chooses to by the principal applicant.. thank you The new Express Entry (new because it was launched in January 2015) encourages both the principal applicants and accompanying spouse to have their educational credentials assessed and show proof of language ability. As it stands both you and your spouse appear to meet the requirements for application. You will however base the conclusion of your eligibility on your ECA result and show proof of language ability (IELTS). You stand a better chance to be the principal applicants while your spouse be the accompanying spouse. Please proceed to evaluate your educational credentials (both husband and wife) and make arrangement to register for IELTS (both husband and wife). Also make preparation to secure work references from all the employers you both have worked for. Once you have all of that ready, you can proceed to apply through the express entry platform. |

lumzy1: Hello All,
I want to know the best way to go about processing my ECA. I will be completing my M.Sc. latest by June and will write my IELTS in April. Is it advisable to process my B.Sc. cert assessment now and apply again for assessment when my M.Sc. degree is available (im not sure how soon my M.Sc cert will be ready). I will also appreciate if I can get preparatory materials for IELTS, my email is geolumide@yahoo.com.
Thanks It all depends on how fast you want you application to be processed. If you want your application to be processed fast enough, you can proceed with just your Bsc. However, you should gain reasonable assurance that your CRS will be enough to make you enter the pool for possibility of selection for ITA. You should also know that your Msc result might not be immediately available (If your education is in Nigeria) for inclusion in your application. |

Eni23: Hello,
I am traveling to Canada by end of March, but I am a but unsure of how much money to take with me. I was planning to take only a small part with me and the rest to transfer it to my bank account once i arrive there.
Does the immigration officer at the border want a proof of funds again? Should I take all my money with me or a bank statement is enough? You are not expected to carry physical cash across borders. You can provide prove of the availability of this fund or make use of bank instrument such as demand draft for the proof of settlement fund. Remember, the CBSA is statutorily required to ensure there's no form of money laundering in whatever form and so ask prospective immigrant (and by extension visitors) to declare whatever cash of cash instrument that is above CAD$10,000. Of late however, there has been little or no confirmation of the amount declared at the POE. Bottom line is,your fund may not be in physical form but proof should be carried so show the availability of the proof of settlement fund. |

Fatima007: Wow!!! I must commend this thread for all the valuable info shared especially by Solomonwis and other contributors. God bless your selfless service. Wish I had discovered this thread earlier, would not have wasted money on David Cohen for representation. Please my spouse and I have completed and passed our IELTS but our ECA reports are still in progress. I just received a mail from WES that they would need to verify my information from my institution, thru the help of this thread, i sent an email to oau@etx-ng.com ( went to Ife) to help me fast track this. I want to find out how long this verification thing can take and how will it impact on the 20 business days WES promised to deliver. And concerning the proof of funds, cant we just open a fixed deposit account and get donations to put in it because what we are honestly counting on is our gratuity payment which we can only get upon resignation. Abeg people help me. My dear,if the rules say do not borrow, please do not."Donation" may put your application through unnecessary questioning and might raise suspicion. I know of 2 cases where the visa office has requested for between 2 to 3 years of bank statements showing salary payments. The visa office is not just after the money being made available but want to be sure the money is available for the applicants and accompanying family members use. Please do not arouse unnecessary suspicion with your proof of settlement fund,if you have come thus far you won't want to bungle your chance because of borrowed fund or donation. If you can prove beyond reasonable doubt regarding the true source and availability of the donation providing as much evidence as possible, you can present donation. IF YOU CAN, AVOID PRESENTING "DONATION" AS PROOF OF SETTLEMENT FUND. |

Rhyle: Hi Solomon, do you mean to say that funds coming in as support for this purpose from extended family members as listed on your apllication and a letter signed by them as a donation they don't expect to collect back from you would not be convincing? Unfortunately "donation" does not meet the definition of proof of settlement fund. The "donation" must necessarily come from an accompanying spouse (if it ever arises). ".....You must have in the form of transferable and available funds, unencumbered by debts or other obligations. Send updated bank statements, fixed deposit certificates, etc. If you have made large deposits into your accounts or fixed term investments, you must provide evidence of where the funds originated."It is always difficult to prove that "donation" is not borrowed fund in disguise. The local visa office can ask you to provide as much as 2 years bank statement to prove that you have the required fund. |

To my greatest disappointment my application that I sent in from the USA to Canada in October was returned reason was money order stale ( more than 6 months) . I need solomon wise to pls help on how I can use the documents to immediately apply under the express entry Tnx Unfortunately, there is no question of "immediately apply under express entry" as you'd have to follow the guidelines for application submission. Since you appear not to have a qualifying job offer and/or provincial nomination, you can send an expression of interest to be invited by creating a profile on the express entry platform and be accepted into the pool. The hurdle under express entry has been raised, hence you can only hope that your EOI be selected from among be pool with a lower CRS threshold. Please start today by creating a profile on EE entering all your details as you have now, provided your language ability result is not more than 2 years and ECA result is not more than 5 years. |
