Wearing tight or skinny wears, especially pant or pencil jeans trousers, seems like the reigning style and, no doubt, many people are addicted to such style, including men and women, old and young. And according to a fashion expert, as long as they are in fashion, they probably won't go away.


Meanwhile, as fashionable and 'fit' as tight wears are, coupled with the way they enhance people's smart outlook and carriage, scientists have said that wearing such skinny clothes comes with a price healthwise.


Pencil jeans trousers leave little or no space between them and the skin, usually from the waist to the toes.


Researchers say wearing such butt-squeezing and thigh-hugging dresses could have painful side effects and cause health problems, such as nerve damage, numbness in the thigh, persistent abdominal pain, blood clot related problems, heartburn and belching.


The report, published in cbsnews.com, revealed that when the nerve that runs down the front of the thigh is compressed because of the tightness, it could lead to a condition called meralgia paresthetica, which is a disorder that occurs when too much pressure is put on a nerve on the outer part of the thigh. Its symptoms include numbness, tingling, and pain.


"The condition gets worse and the risk of having it gets higher in women if they wear skinny jeans with heels. Wearing heels causes your pelvis to tilt, which puts more pressure on the nerve," the report added.


According to Dr. Nicholas Morrisey, a vascular surgeon with New York-Presbyterian Hospital and Columbia University Medical Centre, United States, skinny jeans are meant to accentuate the way people look and not to make them skinny, adding that such tight wears could create problem for a man.


He said, "When you're wearing skinny jeans to make yourself skinny, that's not the point, skinny jeans are meant to accentuate the way people look, not to make yourself look another way. Clothing is not designed to give us a shape that we don't have, and that's where people get in trouble.


"Men should be especially concerned when trying to squeeze on tight pants. One of the problems with wearing skinny jeans is that it can cause a testicular torsion, where one testicle gets twisted on itself. If left untreated, the torsion can cut off circulation and cause the testicle to die.


"Normally the condition is so painful that people seek help pretty quickly. Men only need one, but it would be a heck of a thing to lose one just because of your jeans."


Morrisey pointed out that a common complaint when people wear clothes that are too tight is numbness towards the lower thigh, explaining that the sensory nerve that comes from the pelvis, which also provides sensation to parts of the thigh, would have been tampered with.


He said, "People who wear skinny jeans sometimes say they feel a numbness going down their leg because of the constriction. Their thigh then goes to sleep, and when they stand up, it feels like their foot is not under them. This is because of the sensory nerve that has been disturbed by the tight wear.


"The condition itself isn't dangerous, but if you keep having repeat episodes, it can cause permanent damage."


In his view, the medical adviser to Consumer Reports, Dr. Orly Avitzur, said apart from other health problems, putting on tight jeans could aid digestion difficulty.


"When you put pressure on the abdomen, your food doesn't digest. It risks not being able to be digested properly especially for people who have reflux esophagitis, heartburn or chronic heartburn. Tight clothing can aggravate those problems," he said.


In a report published on Telegraph.co.uk, a recent survey of 2,000 British men conducted by TENA Men, an outfit that makes garments for men with bladder problems, showed that one in 10 men had experienced an unpleasant side-effect as a result of wearing skinny jeans.


Of those men suffering from skinny jeans, it was found that half had experienced discomfort with their groin while over a quarter had bladder troubles while one in five suffered a twisted testicle.


Beyond not being able to run or move freely in the tight wears, one in four of the participants said they regularly squeezed themselves into jeans and their biggest reasons for enduring tightness and discomfort were 'to show I can still fit in them' and 'because they look good.'


"In fact, three in 10 have suffered discomfort from tight jeans and 40 per cent of men admit they sometimes sacrifice comfort over style.


Medical experts, including Dr. Hilary Jones, have revealed through a study that the number of men suffering from painful testicular problems is on the rise owing to the current fashion for tight jeans.


Jones said these fashionable denims are causing twisted testicles, bladder weakness, urinary tract infections, fungal infections and even low sperm count. He explained that wearing tight-fitting clothing over a prolonged period of time can lead to urinary tract infections.


He said, "Twisted testicles occur when tight trousers prevent the spermatic cord from moving freely, meaning it twists and leads to testicular torsion which cuts off the blood supply requiring immediate surgery to prevent a gangrenous testicle.


''I have seen several cases of men who have twisted their testicles due to wearing jeans that are far too tight but my advice to men would be to make sure they leave plenty of room around the groin area and that their pants and trousers feel comfortable so they are not being restricted in any way. So, please don't put style before health.


The medical experts also noted that temperature of the groin region matters. A reproductive endocrinologist, Dr. Celia Dominguez, said, "In order for testes to produce sufficient quality and quantity of sperm, the temperature of testes must be lower than the core body temperature, so, something as simple as changing the kind of underwear a man wears can make a difference.


"Testes can overheat when a man wears tight wears or brief underwear and that is why they are located outside the body. If the testes are too hot – several degrees above where they should be – they are not able to produce sufficient sperm, resulting in low sperm count. Just be aware, it takes 10 to 11 weeks for sperm to be produced, so dress and plan accordingly."


Dominguez explained that ways of keeping the testes at the most favourable temperature include wearing loose clothing and spacious boxer shorts at all times. "Another tip is that when you are at home, take off your pants, it will not only help reduce testes temperature, but it might also turn the woman on including the overall benefits of healthy testes," he added.


Those who spoke with Saturday Punch said even though such tight wears could tighten them in the wrong places, they are more comfortable wearing them.


Reacting to the study, a consultant endocrinologist, Dr. Michael Olamoyegun, said even though nerves are located deep inside the body and not on the skin, it is a possibility that the compression or tightness around the thigh could cause numbness. He said wearing tight shorts or jeans could lead to low sperm count in men because the temperature of the testes region matters in the spermatozoa production.


He said, "It is very true that wearing tight shorts or jeans could lead to low sperm count in men. The spermatozoa is produced from the testes and that place is usually affected by temperature, and the temperature in the testes is one degree lower than what we have in the body, so anything men do that could increase their temperature would affect the spermatozoa production in their system.


"It is not that wearing a tight wear for one day would reduce sperm count, even though there is no specific time because there are many factors to it, the effect is more likely if it happens over a long period of time. Wearing a nylon pant can also increase the temperature of that environment. So, tight trousers have some effects on that environment

I met this girl when I was 23 and she was 21, we both didn't have anything and the relationship was running smoothly.
2 years later (25) I went for NYSC and came back somehow we were breaking up and making up..
She has got quite a huge number of male friends cutting through all ages, I continually tell her that I am not comfortable with her associations with those people, after I complain it goes down and later come up..
On different occasions I have seen some really alarming messages on her phone that points that she is cheating but she bluntly denies it and cries high heavens (oh yeah I cant stand her tears) so I will forgive and let go...
Throughout my job hunting period she never left me just like a lot of other girls would do, she was the one that submitted my cv for this shell job I am doing right now... forgot to tell you I later found out that it was one of those her men that got me the job because she told him I am her cousin
